regarding the post you made about the reaction youtubers, do you lump Ludwig’s mogul mail in with that? I’ve started watching a few to keep up with the times and your post made me think about it a bit more and now I’m unsure if they’re something i should continue watching (completely general, looking for your opinion)
A) just because I find something distasteful doesn’t mean you have to stop watching! It’s my opinion, but you are totally free to disagree. You can even do it on a case-by-case basis if you like a person but not every video.
B) I haven’t watched mogul mail in a while, but it seems closer to like a streamer drama recap / streamer news, right? Short form TMZ-style stuff? I think if it’s something anyone could find easily and isn’t about someone’s private life, it’s more my style. Especially since iirc, his stuff is generally really surface level facts? But if you’re watching and you decide that you don’t vibe with it, that’s a whole other story!

wait what can you explain the kick.com mr beast thing? what id kick.com?
would recommend watching these mogul mails for a full rundown but basically kick.com is trainwreck's new streaming platform he created after gambling was banned off twitch (its backed by a massive online casino/crypto website called stake.com).
its essentially the wild west of streaming platforms, creators are allowed to stream ANYTHING to their audiences (including pornography, copyright content, slots, etc). they dont care about needing advertisers bc they're backed by deep pocketed gambling sites, and will likely encourage creators to stream on those sites specifically.
the most notable controversy is when resident scum of the earth adin ross immediately started streaming porn to his YOUNG viewers when he moved to the platform.

you should watch ludwig's new mogul mail, he summarizes everything pretty well even though he didnt talk about minx or whats been happening on youtube with ohm and the vanoss crew
really upset about mizkif especially though, i am/was a huge fan of him, and i LOVE otk, so im genuinely really curious to see what they do now without him since hes on a "temporary" leave
i dont usually watch streamers but i know some of them by their twitch names and damn, that was a lot

just watched the new mogul mail video on otk. it must be hard for ludwig to talk about the affairs of people who are/used to be close personal friends of his. I think the mizkif situation is more or less resolved (at least in the streamer sphere). But as for rich it's still hard to hear about what happened and you can tell it was hard for ludwig to report on. He says in the video that he was inspired by the daily slap to make mogul mail but the daily slap was always a more personal channel than mogul mail which has found it's niche as a very factual and non biased but still quick creator/gaming news and drama channel.

tw/cw: grooming; dream allegations
ok so I'm talking about this more-
Shout out to Bitzel for being the only CC I've seen speaking up about this dream situation.
I find it very telling that we haven't seen ANY content creators do as little as tweet about this (and if you know any besides Bitzel, let me know and link/show the tweet I'd love to see it), and I find it even more telling creators like Ludwig (Mogul Mail) and MoistCritical haven't talked about it, even though both cover internet news. Even Keemstar even said he wouldn't cover this because "it's not a story", which is bullshit. Why aren't they talking about it?
I want to believe the best in the creators I love, and so I keep trying to rationalize this by thinking of reasons why they haven't spoken out. Maybe some content creators genuinely don't know. Maybe because Dream threatened legal action, they don't want to speak until that's over. (disclaimer i don't know how the law works in this situation) Maybe they only saw "# support dream" trending and glossed over that, thinking it's a normal day on twitter. Maybe they saw the hashtags that were trending a couple days ago of "# support amanda" and "# dreamisfreak" and didn't think they were actual issues and didn't click on them to find out more.
Maybe this. Maybe that. Maybe, Maybe, Maybe. I'm tired of all these excuses I keep coming up with for my content creators. The longer they don't speak out about this, the less I can excuse their silence. If they do wait a long time before speaking about this, they better have a damn good excuse.
I want to be able to watch my favorite content creators because the mcyt sphere is so big and filled with wonderful people who have nothing to do with Dream or his content, but it's going to be bitter if I find out that these creators willingly let this slide for what? Dream SMP Lore? Fuck off, I'd rather they just distance themselves from Dream at the cost of whatever already-stagnant and on-hiatus "lore" dream's weaponizing to try and distract us. Ao3 exists for fans. Post your fucking plans on a google doc or photo on twitter and move on. We will understand. Do they want to still be connected to the face of Minecraft gaming? again, Fuck Off. they're better than that. We don't need Dream. We certainly don't need his face as the "face of Minecraft" or whatever. There are other creators to support. I just don't want the ones I watch to be ok with sweeping this under the rug. I want to know where they stand. And I'm not going to be truly happy until they say something.
Their silence is speaking for them. And it's not saying nice things. If they're against it, do what Bitzel did and speak out. Use your voices as creators with platforms to support victims. At this point, if a content creator supports dream i'd also rather they post about that, so i know who to no longer support as well. Don't waste my time. Say where you stand. I'm getting tired of waiting.

if this is too off topic for your blog feel free to delete - but it’s been on my mind lately contemplating why more dsmp fans don’t watch ludwig. hear me out. i feel like he’s such a great transitional link to get these people who got initially joined twitch/interested in watching streamers because of dsmp to explore outside of the minecraft bubble. he has been for me, at least. i feel like he’s such a natural entertainer with innovative content (chess boxing, subathon, mogul mail, live mogul money, etc.) but most of all it feels very digestible. the only dsmp i still consistently watch now is wilbur and jack if that puts any of this into perspective lol. not sure if you even watch him but thought i’d throw this out there anyways because i love your takes/analysis!
This is kind of a big topic because it deals with the ways that viewers do and don’t transfer over from watching streamers. I winged an answer, but as usual the Twitch/Youtube sphere is still mostly out of my depth :p. While I fully believe that Ludwig is good at what he does, I think he caters to and relates to his audience in a different way (cismen) than what would appeal to what the majority of DSMP fans want out of a stream.
Back when the balls incident hit Ludwig expressed confusion that anyone from the MCYT twitter sphere was talking about him because he himself knows that the gap between the audiences is pretty big. My thinking at the time was that the DSMP sphere kind of sees the Ludwig-and-co group of streamers as distant family, we don’t hear too much firsthand but if he gets publicly naked or arrested it will trickle down the pipeline. From outside looking in it seems that uncle Ludwig doesn’t want to see us outside of holidays and funerals and most of his following feels the same, and I think that’s where I’ll start, because the DSMP fanbase is sensitive to recognising when they’re unwanted.
In the new wave of boundary culture, most fans want to feel like it’s possible to be in the good graces of their CC. Most of the DSMP culture is rooted in transformative fandom or at least what gets called ‘stan culture’ nowadays (that term has been watered all the way down to mean next to nothing) so it’s understood that they’re just not welcome to do as they’re inclined. I’m sure people go ahead and set up camp anyway, but you have to position yourself as counter to the creators wishes and the subculture itself if you want to enjoy that content in a way, and I think this round of MCYT blew up so big because the way that this style of fandom likes to move and interact was accepted instead of shunned. What’s left is people who are resistant to shame, which can be a lot of fun if you’re with the right people, but it’s more niche.
Not being able to commit to a streamer when watching livestreams is also an issue. There’s only so many hours in a day and it’s hard to half-ass an attachment to someone who takes that much time and attention to keep up with, so if someone or something else suits a viewer better, it makes sense for them to go to that person instead. I asked a friend and apparently some Dream Team people have crossover with his sphere which makes sense with the through-line of gamer-boyishness, so there us some audience overlap to keep people in the loop, but he’s far from one-size-fits-all for the whole fandom.
The question left to ask is do people really want to ‘explore what Twitch has to offer.’ I ventured out of my bubble once while following a lead and I quickly found myself among demons, because some of Twitch is the whale bones of deep internet boysclub gamer-ish culture. There is a profound sketchiness in some of these spaces that DSMP fans generally don’t tolerate, and in that sense they’ve been a force for good on Twitch, but it makes them allergic to certain people who also don’t like them back.
I don’t have the clearest sense of everything that Twitch (or live Youtube) has to offer, but my sense is that’s true for most people. It looks like streamer careers are made on the back of external referrals from other websites (and by extension peers), so once you get into a social circle there’s not much hopping around. You made an unlikely leap from SBI-ish to hitting the luddy, so it might seem more feasible from your point of view, but the venn diagram overlap of appeal will vary over the general ‘DSMP fandom.'
I don’t think digestibility was ever as much of an issue as baseline appeal. Availability of content is half the battle, but people have to want what you’re selling to really stick to or bond with an audience. Ludwig isn’t hurting for viewership by any stretch so he’s finding the people that gel with him, but when I think of the DSMP fandom I think of primarily personality-driven content (and fandom engagement) that’s taken on a very particular post-2020 flavor, and that doesn’t seem to directly translate into what Ludwig does even if it's in the neighborhood.
