becca, you have been my inspiration and my idol for years and years now. i don’t even know where to start because you’re just on a whole other level. seriously, you are the definition of talent and hard work, and every time i think i’ve seen your best, you go and make something even more breathtaking. you’re constantly setting new trends in the gifmaking community, inspiring the rest of us to think outside the box. i mean, how do you do it? it’s like you have a never-ending well of creativity and magic, and i’m honestly just lucky to witness it.

you have such a distinct style that always feels so effortless—but i know better than to think it’s really that easy. the way you color and blend is pure magic. more than that, you always seem to pull these brilliant concepts out of nowhere, and i have no idea how you manage to bring them to life with so much precision and detail. i can never get over the way you make every single gif feel like a piece of art—and i'm not just talking about coloring and blending, but the emotion you infuse in each set. it’s always so personal, so heartfelt, and it resonates in a way i can’t even describe.

so, without further ado, here are some of my favorite sets of yours from this year! (i had to limit myself to this year only otherwise we would be here til next year at the very least.)

alicent appreciation week: this one is fresh in my mind, as i've just made a set inspired by it! and for a good reason. it's seriously one of my all-time favorites from you. the way you wove these scenes together is just magic. you matched the young and old alicent scenes so well, i can only imagine how long it took. the soft green tone you used gives the whole thing such a calming yet melancholic feeling, and i think that perfectly captures the heartache of the scenes. it’s so beautifully painful to watch, but in the best way possible.

jackieshauna + good luck, babe: fun fact, this set sent me down the chappell spiral! even tho i was already loving the song, i simply couldn't stop thinking about it after i've seen your set and started to make connections to jackieshauna in my head. then i ended up fixating on chappell's music for weeks and that's all on you <3 i’m absolutely in love with the pink and mint combo, it feels so fresh and vibrant! and the lyric arrangement is so simple yet totally unique. love, love, love!

annabeth chase + nikita gill: from the moment i first saw it, i knew this was going to be one of my favourite sets from this year. and i wasn't wrong! the way you combined so many amazing effects and techniques without it ever feeling overwhelming is beyond impressive. the use of shapes, especially the little heart and dagger doodles, is brilliant, and the way the text warps around them is so creative. the geometric b&w elements? my mind was blown. then, there's the sick glitch effect in the middle and the last gif where the squares appear one by one—i can’t even imagine how much time and effort went into this. this set seriously belongs in a national history of gifs museum.

yennefer + all-american bitch: i feel like this set captures your artistry like none other. just one very simple font and yet you made it look like a masterclass in typography?? i bow down to thee. and all the scenes and coloring are so well balanced and just incredibly pleasing to the eye. the rich red coloring feels so deep and powerful, and you really brought out the intensity of the character with it. truly, the whole vibe of the set matches yen’s sass perfectly!

yellowjackets as yellowjackets species: i am obsessed with this concept! it just feels like one of these things that simply HAD to be made. the colors you chose for the set were absolute perfection, and that little bee detail? too cute for words. but honestly, what really had me blown away was how each gif really embodied the essence of the characters. this set felt so thoughtful, and i love that it doesn’t just look good but also tells a really cohesive story.

the crows as species of the crow family: you know i'm a sucker for a gif series! after falling in love with the yellowjackets set, i was so excited to see this one, and you absolutely nailed it! the blending, the coloring, it's all there in a perfect becca fashion. i will never get over how you chose the hooded crow for inej—such a perfect fit. also don't think i forgot this little series was supposed to have a third installment… just saying!

rhaenicent + say don't go: becca, this one is on a whole other level. i'm pretty sure i screamed when i first saw it. you managed to incorporate so many scenes from the show that it feels like a beautiful, exhaustive tribute to rhaenicent. i was blown away by how you combined all those effects and overlays so seamlessly. the shattered mirror in the first gif? genius. and the way you used the ripped pages with those perfect fonts? perfection. and the taylor swift lyrics just sealed the deal for me. i’m honestly in awe of how much heart and soul you put into this one.

jaskier in daffodils: this one was another showstopper for me. i love how “j” stands for both jaskier and joker—it’s such a clever little detail that you just nailed. the shades of yellow you used here? pure magic. you really turned these similar tones into something that feels dynamic and mesmerizing, and the way you played with color is honestly next-level.

jackieshauna + you can't catch me now: i can't get over how haunting this set feels. it's truly as if jackie's ghost is tied to it, ready to remind anyone who sees it of the lesbian high school drama of the century. i love how the first forest gif feels so ethereal, and the footsteps vector is another incredible detail. the black and white gif adds a whole other layer of mystery, and it feels like the perfect visual for shauna seeing jackie everywhere!

rhaenicent parallels: i don’t think i’ll ever get over this one. the merlin quote? chef’s kiss. i didn’t expect it, but it fits so perfectly with rhaenicent, i’m in complete awe. the coin motif was brilliant—it felt like such a personal touch to show the duality of the characters. the way you worked the paper ripping effect in and connected it to their younger and older selves was genius. the whole thing feels like a powerful emotional punch, and i can’t even put into words how much i love it.

becca, to say that you’re one of my absolute favorite creators is an understatement. i’m constantly in awe of your work, and i feel so lucky to witness it all! i'm sorry to see you struggling with inspiration and/or motivation these days, but hopefully this little love-rant of mine will remind you that everything you make inspires and resonates with so many of us here on tumblr.com/hellsite. love you loads <3

truly, a fun fantasy film with all the right blends of serious stakes and goofy missteps that is so emblematic of playing dnd

one of the things I was most curious about going into it was—given that so much of dnd is a) collaborative storytelling and b) ultimately determined by dice rolls, how would those elements of unpredictability translate to a scripted story? (which I suppose is not new to dnd-based media, there have been novels and the 80s show, but those aren't things that I've consumed.) and like. yes the story was pretty predictable overall, but I did like that there were moments of abject failure scattered throughout that really captured the vibe of rolling a nat 1 (it was also very fun to half-watch it through a lens of, oh, this person would be rolling a deception check right now. this person is succeeding then failing on a bunch of acrobatics checks, etc.)

it is. so very fun to me that bards are categorically also spellcasters, and yet they did not let chris pine do one damn magical thing, that lute was a melee weapon only

michelle rodriguez barbarian my beloved (also like, in terms of balancing references to the game with still making the movie accessible, part of me was expecting/hoping to see some visual indication of her going into a rage, but I did like that they didn't tip the hand quite that much while still making clear during fight scenes that, oh, she definitely has some rage-fueled strength right now that is allowing her to yeet a dude across a courtyard)

seeing all the spells and wildshaping was incredibly fucking cool!! that may have been the bit I was most excited about, and it did not disappoint—doric's whole infiltration and then escape of the castle was so good. the displacer beasts. the mimics!

the comp het was so funny. look, I really loved both justice smith and sophia lillis but cmon guys. there was nothing there

although speaking of, edgin and holga as determinedly platonic best friends raising a child together was an absolute delight—the bit when edgin says to kira like 'I'm not trying to bring back your mom but my wife' bc yeah!! kira's mom is already right there!!

halfling bradley cooper having a clear type of 'women twice my size who could break me in half' is so valid

god paladin regé-jean page be still my heart (although yeah, the paladin as a straight-laced LG humorless type is not the only way to interpret the class, but I thought it did make for a nice contrast w the rest of the party)

but also his armor! I thought the costumers did a great job of giving them all designs/looks that spoke to their classes. truly, the visuals of the whole movie were so cool—not just in terms of the aesthetics, but the framing and movement of the shots, too. very dynamic, very fun to watch

overall, a genuinely good time!!

13. the way they're looking here.... ough. in the story post they take a few moments to watch lori pass before initially approaching her. the look they give her is mixed with the displeasure of spending their friday night tailing their boss' 'girlfriend' and just your typical male gaze of watching girls go by

14. i think i peaked with this shot. she was literally just getting into a car what an absolute icon

15. & 16. the way she looks at him and the way he looks at her...... chefs kiss. she's annoyed and he can tell but that doesn't stop him with appreciating how she looks

18. i love this little moment of intimacy between them. their relationship can feel more like an acquaintanceship at times, especially with how marco speaks to lori and how he treats her. i like in this shot it captures a rare moment in their relationship where lori is genuinely sweet and he's soaking it all in. also i really like both their side profiles hehe

19. i was starting to take screens for a post i was going to make then i just forgot about it but i really like this and how it's a little sneak peak on what to expect later on in four to one :)

so we finished season 3 of picard and it was just...so bad??!? ( bigger spoilers below)

it felt like the writers didn't even watch season 2 and therefore just did a worse version of s2 with the borg stuff (which is sad b/c the s2 agnes/borg queen stuff was really interesting! i would have loved to see that develop further. even if i didn't really like s2 that much it was still better than s3). idk it was just a boring retread of stuff they'd already covered in s1-2. Even the stinger at the end of the season was such a boring reveal b/c we just had a whole season with kinda boring Q hijinks (time travel shouldn't be boring AND YET. s2 gave real fringe s5 vibes T.T)

worf was still the best part tho, like spinoff with worf pls (riker and geordi can come. honestly everyone but picard and jack can come b/c everyone else is vastly more interesting).

honestly the biggest issue i have with the show is it doesn't seem to know what it is or who it is for (is it picard having a 2nd life with new people and experiencing new things? is it a nostalgia driven look at these characters as they age? does it want to invite in new viewers or is it for old fans?) and it keeps trying to split the difference and fail at both.

especially when you compare it to Strange New Worlds and Discovery which are fun and innovative w/the ip, it feels so clunky and dull. Anyway s1-2 are okay/fine (they have some good moments where you're like "oh maybe?" but a lot of times they repeat narrative devices like "in media res" and "i bet you're wondering how i got here" that drag it down) but s3 is just not good.

The whole "secret picard kid" thing felt kinda flat too since it was just a boring version of his arc with Elnor, superior adopted son (who was mysteriously never mentioned in s3 along with Seven/Raffi's relationship being reduced significantly...guess it got too gay :c )

also the whole "fuck them kids" plot device that felt like it was designed appeal to boomer audiences was just real weird and forced like i'm sorry but there's got to be a better way to just have your old dog crew w/o just fridging all your new characters* anyway don't really recommend, if you finished SNW and Discovery and are jonesing for more ST, i'd maybe just watch those again lol (or watch ds9/voyager instead of this)

(still loved worf tho, worf is best. the times where worf is offscreen are the worst)

*i also have questions about the non-human crew mates like romulans are much longer lived than humans and so are several other species so would they even mature at the same rate/be subject to the same issues as the human ones (it felt like they were kinda arbitrary with it like, these characters are played by actors under 25 therefore it counts)

Also, it ended up not being, like, all that fluffy, aside from the fluff that comes with comfort and hugs :(( imo it veers more on the hurt/comfort genre? I wasn’t sure how to really make the ‘comforting after a loss’ realistically mainly fluffy, so I had to go with a mixture. I hope it’s not a problem, babe </3

Feat: Fluff & angst and hurt/comfort, can be romantic or platonic, comforting hugs, modern AU bc i didn’t feel like conforming to his in-game flowery speech, i tried to b vague with how the reader copes with grief since people all deal w it differently, but the reader cries + isolates themself in their room + calls Kazuha to not be alone + wants physical touch as a comfort

Kazuha is quiet when he approaches you first, careful to not overwhelm you or to do anything that might make you uncomfortable.

He enters into your room to find you perched on the bed, head hanging low. When he asks if he can come in, you don’t say anything–– merely scooting to the side to make room for him. 

He doesn’t touch you, doesn’t say anything while you cry, muffling the sounds with your hand. He’s not sure what you need right now, but if your short call asking him to come over was any indication, he at least knows that you want him here with you.

For some time, the only sound in the air is your crying. It goes on for a bit, until your throat is scratchy and your voice hoarse. Kazuha doesn’t move from where he sits the entire time–– doesn’t reach out to touch you, doesn’t attempt to hug you without your say-so. All he does is sit and wait, let his presence help ground you, and wait for you to come to him. 

It takes some time, but eventually your sobs taper off into quiet hiccups, and only when you tentatively reach out to grip the sleeve of his hoodie does Kazuha turn to look at you. 

Your eyes are watery, lips cracked. Your skin is warmed from how long you’ve cried, and even the hand that grips his clothes so tightly trembles. Kazuha stays quiet, waiting for you to say something maybe, though you say nothing, eyes looking anywhere else but him.

“...do you want some water?” is what he says first, in a quiet voice. There’s no pity there, no judgement as he watches your sad, trembling form. Just empathy and everlasting patience. When you nod, his other arm goes to the paper bag he had brought in with him, pulling out a bottle of water and easily cracking the seal for you, the noise resounding in the silence of your room.

He hands it to you, eyes watching a bit more intently to make sure you don’t just gulp it all down (it would just make you feel worse–– instead, he makes sure you take small sips until the bottle is at least half-empty.) Kazuha doesn’t say anything the entire time, letting you take things at your own pace. The silence between you goes unbroken for the time being–– even when you swing your legs onto his lap, and curl yourself into him

Kazuha tentatively begins to rub your side, his hand a comforting warmth. To his relief, you burrow further against him instead of pulling away, and he rests his chin on the top of your head, hoping that his presence could benefit you.

A few more seconds of silence–– then your sniffles start up again, growing and growing until the tears come once more, and you’re crying into his hoodie, eyes tightly closed and hands fisted in the fabric while you hold him close to you as you sob. And he lets you. Kazuha’s arms come to hold you–– one draping across your thighs while the other wraps around your middle, holding you–– curving around you as if he could shield you from all the grief and sorrow if he tried hard enough.

“I– I miss––” it’s hard for you to say, the words coming out garbled and hiccupy around your sobs. It’s hard to accept, to acknowledge. Saying the words out loud are enough to truly make you realize who you’ve lost. You can’t even complete the sentence before a pained sound escapes you.

“I know,” Kazuha says, his tone a soothing lull. A melody that never fails to calm you, even in the worst of times. His hand goes to rub absent circles on your skin. Even as you sob and cry into his jacket, dampening it with your tears, his hold on you does not once falter. If anything, he holds you even closer, rubbing your back while you let it all out.

At times like these, there’s nowhere else that Kazuha would be than by your side. Even if his his legs go numb, even if his hoodie is stained with your tears, there’s nowhere else he would rather be. He coos quietly as you keep crying, a comforting sound.

Because even as you are sad and in pain and fractured into a million bits on the ground, for as long as you will let him, Kazuha will always be there to help you pick up the pieces.

Baji sat next to you on the sidewalk, briefly glancing at the side of your face before directing his vision straight ahead.

“Are you still mad?” Baji suddenly whispered into the night air and you slowly looked down at your sneakers, twisting them slightly on the pavement.

“A little.” You replied quietly and then silence seemed to fill the atmosphere between you guys. The both of you continued to sit in front of your house, lips tucked tightly together while purposely avoiding the obvious elephant in the room.

Baji finally broke, no longer being able to take the suffocating vibe that had snaked its way around your beings. He sucked his teeth loudly before turning himself to face you completely, moving his head so he was now right in your face.

“Look at me.” He softly demanded while angrily furrowing his eyebrows, and eventually you moved your eyes reluctantly to stare into his glazed ones.

“This whole thing is hard for the both of us. I don’t want you to go- hell, before I came here I was actually on my way to go and lay down in front of the truck just so you couldn’t leave me.” Baji grumbled, a vein suddenly appearing on his forehead as he continued his speech. 

“But even though it hurts like shit to see you go so far away, I also can understand that moving is the best thing for you to do right now, especially since you can better pursue your career at this new place. And with that being said…” 

Baji abruptly reached into his front pocket, digging in it slightly before gradually pulling his hand back out. He then moved his clenched fist so that it stopped in front of you, and your eyes widened once he slowly opened his fingers to reveal what he was hiding.

“I want you to have this.”

It was a necklace, a locket to be exact, with a picture of you and Baji smiling with each other when you opened it.

“Turn it around.” Baji motioned his head as he sheepishly watched you inspect the chain with an amazed expression adorning your face. You slowly moved the locket just to see that it had the letter B engraved into the gold surface and you looked back up at Baji as he winked at you.

“So that I’ll always be with you.” He boasted and his nose crinkled slightly as he smiled at you. “I got the exact same one back at home, only it has your initial instead.”

“Baji, that’s so sweet.” You chimed in response, grabbing and moving your hair to the side so he could carefully clasp it around your neck.

“Yeah, Chifuyu helped me make it and showed me how to stick the picture inside, and speaking of which, that had to have been the hardest shit I’ve ever done in my life.” Baji snorted while shaking his head which made you laugh slightly, and upon hearing the hint of happiness in your voice, Baji looked up at you warmly.

“The gang also wanted me to tell you that they’re going to miss you too.” Baji suddenly said, and you nodded your head as you thought of all the boys you’ve grown closer to over the years.

“Tell Toman that I’ll miss them too, and that I’m counting on them to keep you safe.” You replied back and Baji chucked at your response.

“Keep me safe?” Baji repeated before moving his eyes to look at the stars in the sky, grinning slightly to himself. “You’re looking at the toughest man in Toman right now, nothing can take me down.”

“If you say so.” You rolled your eyes, knowing that your strong Baji would be just fine even with you gone.

“God, I’m going to miss you.�� Baji said while squinting his eyes, a frown now shaping his lips. “I’m going to miss you so damn much.” 

You turned your head to see Baji still staring up at the sky, only this time tears were steadily falling down his cheeks and his bottom lip was slightly quivering. You scooted closer to him, affectionately moving the pad of your thumb to wipe his face.

“I’ll be back before you know it, and then we can be together as long as we want.” You assured, playfully scrunching up your eyebrows as you pointed at him. “And you better promise me that you’ll wait for me or else.” 

Baji slowly stopped his crying and he turned his head towards you, smiling largely with closed eyes and his palm now wrapped around your hand that was still placed on his face. Baji would wait for you until the end of time If he had to because he loved you so much, and he would make it his mission to still be here so he could marry you one day. 

He opened his glossy eyes, pointing his thumb to his chest while giving you one of his signature smirks.

“I promise.”

not quite a liveblog as I am wont to do but ruth and I watched tf earthspark so I figured id write down scattered thoughts bc who KNOWS when the next eps are dropping and id love to remember what I think of things whenever that rolls around

so let me start off by saying this show is banger. we rlly like it so far awww

still also gotta say rip cyberverse, that show was SO good and died too soon :( 

but yeah I like this show a lot!!! I rlly dig how it looks, I wasn’t sure about the art style/3d animation at first but it looks really good. better than cyberverse if I'm honest (sorry cybv your budget probably wasn’t as good its not ur fault)

I loooove that we’re starting off at an interesting point in which the autobot-decepticon war is over and has been for a while, and megatron is on the same side as the bots, but there’s still conflict....LOVE IT 

cyberverse was also based for having the war going on but in a different way than shows usually did, and having the sides kind of aware of how fruitless the fighting was, and then eventually w the quintessons the two sides had to unite. anyways I have a whole separate post on cyberverse so I should chill 

the human characters are great. I feel like there's the right amount of focus on them and I really dig the family dynamic we’re getting. the kids are cute and fun and I love their relationships w/the bots...I love that mo calls OP “mr optimus” awww

I love the parents also. alex husband of the year he’s so great. and dorothy is so cool and I LOVE her and megatron. they’re like platonic malewife-girlboss. power bffs. 

LOVE how she doesn’t like OP but like megatron. SO funny. 

I really enjoy that the robots aren’t ‘in disguise’ either - the world seems to be aware of them and their existence and the war that went on. that’s cool! I like that a lot; ik the tagline for tf is ‘robots in disguise’ and all but if u think about it they weren’t really hidden in g1 even

I really like this bumblebee!! his design is so cute and I really appreciate that he isn’t ‘the kid’ in this, and has to assume a more mentor-like role. very cool and entertaining

ok and the terrans are adorable. theyre just babies and I love them. I looove how they were adopted into the malto family its so cute. I’m enjoying them and their antics and I feel like there’s a great mix of cute hijinks w/them learning how to be tfs, and also with other plot stuff 

LOOOOVE the plot implications. JUICY!!!!!!!!!! GHOST is so fucking sketchy I LOVE THAT. I love that OP is working for them, and has a sense of ‘I’m doing this for the greater good/this is a means to an end (the end being peace)’ but OP seems to know that GHOST is sketchy as fuck - with him hiding the terrans’ existence and bumblebee being alive from them...but also he tells megatron to give them a chance, which is very OP of him, so that makes sense, but I’m curious if it’ll blow up in his face ((it totally will))

megatron was RIGHT in that one ep where he was trashing GHOST. them having all those cons locked up is bad news. and ruth pointed out that we haven’t even seen who’s in charge of GHOST which is pretty concerning.

also I can’t believe that one agent guy isn’t voiced by will arnett bc he totally sounds like him 

I super loved the flashbacks of the cybertronian history that were animated in g1 style :’) it reminded me of in tfa where they used clips from g1 as part of the history lesson 

I loooove megatron in this show he’s so cool. he gives me some mtmte megatron vibes - he basically says that he agreed to join GHOST/the autobot side in order to protect the cons from worse consequences. I’m interested to hear more about the war and what went on. I’d love some war flashbacks personally

I think it would be epic if they paralleled OP and megatron - with OP joining up with GHOST bc he think he’s doing the right thing for his species and humans, only to discover that GHOST is fr bad news - and megatron binding himself to service w/GHOST and the autobots in exchange for supposed safety (?or something? Not super clear what the cons/megatron got out of that bargain) for the cons, only to discover (as he basically already did) that the cons aren’t doing great out there and they think of him as a traitor

also mandroid is actually pretty interesting for a human villain. I was expecting not to like him (espec at the beginning, he reminded me of silas from tfp who ended up being a nuisance and didn’t really have a point in the plot imo) bc tf human villains are more often miss than hit but he’s interesting 

I like that he has pretty legit reasons to want to get rid of the “invasive species” (as a biologist I love that phrasing), after he got drafted into the war and then injured in friendly fire

LOVED the part where he talks about this and dot is like ‘yeah I also got injured in the war and that sucks for us but I’m judging you based on your actions and YOU suck’ that was so epic she’s so epic and cool

I’m gonna make a separate post abt that but they were EXCELLENT. one place I think cyberverse was weak in was the fight scenes - in s1 I would say they were actively boring (sorry cybv ily) and they got better but still were a bit clunky and awkward and formulaic. I feel like it was due to animation/budget constrictions more than anything 

but yeah these fights scenes rocked. I especially love the 2d smoke and fire effects 

I just wanna know more about the war too!!! like mandroid got injured, it seems, from friendly fire - did Dot as well? is that why she doesn’t seem to like or trust OP as much?

I feel kinda bad for the cons tbh. they seem scattered and lost, with no real leader, and they’re apparently disappearing (presumably mandroid) or being imprisoned by GHOST, who I'm SURE doesn’t have any ill intentions...I wonder if the show will continue to take a more sympathetic approach to the cons (kinda like mtmte, where they kinda had a point at the beginning before they lost the thread w/all the murdering and whatnot)

also I love everyone’s designs generally but I still think OPs face looks weird hgfajkdfksjndfkj whenever he has the faceplate off I'm like Put That Back On Please. 

I like that the humans are directly involved in the plot in a way that makes sense bc the human world has already been to war with/alongside the tfs, so there are a ton of different relationships that humans can have w/the tfs. this is way more interesting than st like tfp, which I think did a pretty bad job integrating the humans, or tfa, which had Sari w/a macguffin that was plot-important in order to keep her involved 

tbf that’s kinda going on w/the kids having links to the terrans but I like the way it’s played out so far. I love the suggestions of lore we’ve gotten too, w/quintus prime and stuff

also they’ve made a point of showing that symbol in the cave where the terrans were born MORE THAN ONCE, and it totally looks like those spiderbots, so I’m thinking there’s definitely a connection there. something weird is going on

also I kinda belatedly realized that this megatron doesn’t seem to have the same dislike for organics/earth people as he does in a lot of other media (most notably in idw1). that’s interesting and I like that we’re exploring a different side of his character, and I like seeing humans hanging with him. he and dot are great and I hope we get more of them, including flashbacks

HIIIIIIIIIIIII okay hold on i myself am still somewhat new to this (well, i remember halloween 2021 as the first event i was playing during), but let me give you the basics. Very long text ahead.

Before I start yapping about the gameplay, I'll tell you about the characters, the storyline and the music (to the best of my understanding anyway) - [nicki minaj meme] so there's this Theater. Starless is, like, a show restaurant. You come in, you grab a meal, you watch some guys sing, you have a good time, right? There's currently 5 teams: K, W, P, C and B. There were only 3 in the beginning, but certain characters branched out of K/W/P and formed their own teams, which were C and B. Now, the story itself is a bit... dark? I suppose you could say. You play as Saki (you can change her name ofc) and, right from the start, you're being chased by some weirdos;;; but Kei (the top of Team K) saves you just in time and - whoops! Turns out you know eachother. Freaky, right? Saki doesn't remember him, though, from what I understood, but listening to one of their songs made her faint, and basically now she has to be protected by these guys at Starless because dangerous stuff's been happening. It's quite... convoluted, there's speculations of human experimentation from what I've read - but yeah. There's also the whole "all of the former owners of Starless went missing" thing, and the Black Card business, there's a lot of intrigue to it. It makes me wish I was better at Japanese so reading a single chapter doesn't have to be a full-day job! The whole game's got a mature feel to it, so it's not really an "idol game" imo - there's not even much emphasis on the power of friendship or hard work as with most other idol-raising games. Despite being teams, most of them have deep rivalries between eachother, not to mention the drama that happens between members of different teams. Some outright hate one another. Plus, the characters are all older and, well, more mature. The youngest one, I believe, was born in 2001, but most seem to be late 80s-90s (and, yeah, instead of just a birthday, they have full DOBs, so they age up each year lol). Also, for some reason, so many of them just have their tits out on full display most of the time. The outfits are... well, like the story, they sure are mature. They'll get pneumonia, but it's eye candy, I suppose lmao anyway the event stories are also really fun to read and, though it's not otome, there are a lot of interactions with certain characters that will make you go🥰🥰 - though a majority will be from Kei and Heath since the two (seem to be) childhood friends of Saki's. That said, you can absolutely swoon over any of the characters, trust me. I believe Otome Ayui on YouTube translated a chunk of the main story and some event stories, but otherwise, if you don't know Japanese, you'll probably have to make do with computer translations or a dictionary since I, personally, haven't found any other translations. It's so worth it, though.

As for the teams, as I said before, currently we have five. I'll also say something about the characters, but I think it'll be obvious who my faves are lmao anyway, you've got Team K (from the top, clockwise: Kei, Yoshino, Yakou, Ginsei, Gui, Sotetsu), Kei is like the main main guy, he cares a lot for Saki and wants to protect her. Ginsei is really loyal to him, it's a bit cute to watch. Gui is who's interesting to me in Team K - he's pretty stoic and emotionless, but he keeps mentioning waiting for someone he calls "Master". Yakou used to be in Team P, but quit, and then returned after finishing university, he gives me a cute genki vibe. Yoshino is a bit of a ball of anxiety, he's cute, but timid. Sotetsu is the lone wolf, but he can be quite bold with Saki at times.

Team W (Kokuyou, Akira, Taiga, Sin, Takami). Kokuyou's got these dog tags on him that I'm pretty sure say "Chiaki" on them, but that's for another day. He's a bit scary and has some anger issues but <333 lol Akira is the token flirt of Team W, he's a little shameless, but has said once that Saki is "special" to him so? Anyway. I can't say much about Taiga because he speaks in such heavy slang I can barely keep up, but I guess the fact that he speaks in a lot of slang is also something that tells about a character. He's an IT nerd who's physically weak, though, I've figured that out. Sin is like the gentle giant, he's huge, but really intelligent. He speaks in, I can't even say in riddles, it sounds more like prophecies. It's odd, but he can really make pretty words flow. Takami is the reliant big brother type, and he has acted in musicals before, though I don't really trust him, somehow his way of speaking evokes trustworthiness a little too much, ironically. Maybe that's just my bias against bespectacled anime characters, though.

Team P (Rindou, Menou, Nekome, Ginsei (yes, again), Sinju, Maica). Rindou and Sinju used to be idols before joining Starless. Yakou was actually in Sinju's idol group, but they have some beef now. Rindou is pretty mild-mannered, responsible and gentle, he even speaks formally, to the point that, when he's introduced around the same time as characters like Kokuyou and Mizuki, it almost makes you feel like he doesn't belong. Menou is the token always-sleepy character, he speaks so cutely because of it, though. A scene that is locked into my memory is, during Team B's onsen event, apparently they just found him sleeping in their hotel room lololol but he becomes a completely different person on stage with how well he dances and acts. Nekome is Taiga's older brother, he basically raised him on his own. He was one of the first members of Starless, but he ran away and was considered missing at one point. Apparently he regrets that, but I don't trust him, either. Sinju is the really genki character, he's full of energy and just <3 so cute <3, he respects Rindou a lot and is really hard-working. Maica is the tsundere here, but seeing him blush is so worth every single one of his harsh words. He's really pretty, but hates being judged on appearance and hates being told he looks like a girl.

Team C (Mokuren, Zakuro, Kasumi, Hari, Qu) - I want to note this here, all of the characters (to my knowledge) are men, except for Mokuren. In their introduction video, their gender was listed as "unknown" so I (and I believe I've seen others) use they/them for Mokuren. Anyway, they consider dancing the essence of their life. Though their profile says they show no interest in anything other than dance, their hobby is listed as "eating" and, let me tell you, can Mokuren eat. Zakuro's way of speaking is absolutely amazing, he's always dropping "oya oya"s and dramatic phrases. Listening to him talk is wonderful, but I don't trust a word he says. He's definitely hiding something behind that JoJo pose. Kasumi mostly keeps to the background, he prefers not being seen and is actually really good at hiding his energy that he often scares people when he starts talking lol he calls himself a "mob" (like a faceless side-character), and seems to prefer it that way. I don't know much about Hari, but he seems like the cool type, a bit of a jack of all trades. And Qu - he's the fashion and make-up loving type. He used to work as a drag queen, which isn't something you often see in media like this so it stuck out to me.

Team B (Mizuki, Heath, Kongou, Ran, Lico). Mizuki is like. A wild dog. He had a rough childhood and a lot of street smarts, but not much regular smarts. He's also a bit of a tsundere, but there's a good heart in him, I believe. Always down to fight. It's really funny hearing him go wild, his voice is sorta higher-pitched, so it's entertaining. Heath is the token sickly character, he has lung issues, I think? Coughed up blood once. Heath is really attached to music and doesn't like others singing the songs he wrote. Because he tends to push himself, the others scold him sometimes. He also does tarot! I think he's faded out here because he's still in the hospital (IIRC in a recent event he mentioned having to go to surgery soon). Kongou is possibly the closest thing Team B has to a responsible adult. He looks scary, but is actually a pacifist and has a calm vibe about him. That said, he did use to be a wrestler. He's a chef now, though :) Ran is like. I wouldn't call him a problem child, but there's a reason why his tagline is "No.1 energetic brat", he's very energetic, and has quite the shark-toothed grin when feeling violent. Always down to fight pt.2. Then there's Lico - he used to work as a host and he's so full of himself. Also quite flirty with Saki. That said, surprisingly enough, it's often him (and Kongou) who ends up as the voice of reason. You know the situation is dire just by that.

Then you also have the current owner, Haseyama, and the only staff member who, because of that, gets called Unei (literally "management"). Haseyama gives me some. Weird vibes, but not in a bad way. He's trying to convert Starless into a host club, though. Unei is just a poor little meow meow, timid and overworked. Save him. Get him out of there. The two also formed their own teams for April Fools' and the songs were actually. so good. But still, someone save Unei.

If you ask me to describe the genres of the music, it's very... far from what you'd expect in an anime boy rhythm game. I'd call Team K's as maybe close to visual kei? Kind of rock-y. Their vocalists are Kei (Ray Fujita), Yoshino (Tomoki Saito/Academic BANANA) and Yakou (Matsumoto Akito/Shinku Horou). Then, Team W definitely gives me more rock, maybe even alternative rock vibes. They've got come cool guy stuff going on, the music goes hard. Their singer is Akira (Kobayashi Taro). Team P are the ones you'll like if you like usual idol stuff, their songs give off a more pop-hearty vibe, and I'm assuming that's bc a few of their members actually are former idols, in-game. Their singers are Sinju (Stungun), Maica (Kradness) and Rindou (Ajikko). Team C is the gender team, they're so aesthetic. I have no idea what their genre is, but, whatever it is, it slaps. Kinda gives me club by the beach on a summer night vibes, but specifically those "clubs" that are actually half in the open. Their singer is Zakuro (Shakemii). And Team B, my personal faves🥰, are a hip-hop/rap team. Their songs go so hard. Their MC is Heath (Takuya IDE).

Most of the songs are based on works of literature (because it's a show restaurant, right?), which is also really fun, and an especially good ego boost when you figure out what the song is based on purely through the references in the song itself (though if you play the game, the loading screen for the song will give you a summary). I'll link each Team's first-uploaded song and my personal fave, just for diversity's sake and to get a feel for them - I believe the first song is always important to hear. So Team K's first - During the demise (sung by Kei, one of the main themes alongside W's BLACKSTAR, based on Lohengrin), and my personal fave - The Final Problem (sung by Yoshino, based on Sherlock Holmes/The Final Problem). Team W's first - Breakin' it faster (based on Romeo and Juliet), my fave - Out in Out (not based around a text, but around the Battle of Thermopylae). P - 虹の彼方へ (sung by Maica, based on the Wizard of Oz), 一雫の秘密 (sung by Maica and Rindou, based on The Turn of the Screw). C - Purple Dawn (based on the Ode to Joy), 暁の願い (based on Tenshu Monogatari). B - 日蝕 (based on Macbeth), 駄犬 (not based on anything; a diss track/"We went crazy" track lol)

Now as for the game itself, first of all, in my humble opinion, it's one of the best mobile rhythm games out there. The whole game is vertical instead of horizontal, so even the rhythm part is like that, but it's really fun. There's three difficulties, normal, hard and advanced. Normal and hard are unlocked from the start for every song, but to get advanced you need to get a full-combo on hard mode. The beatmaps on advanced mode often make little shapes, like in the new year 2021 song the ending, when the singer says "happy new year", forms the number 2-0-2-1, or, in a different song, the word "mikadzuki" (crescent moon) forms a crescent-moon-like long note, or in yet another song, during the words "Team K", the long notes form a K. It's just really fun, it's not too difficult (though some songs... beware the lvl>30 songs), but it's fun. Most of the difficulty comes in speed changing, so it's important that you know the song well when playing on the highest difficulty. As with other mobile games, it's important to have a good roster. There are songs that limit what characters you can use, but the first roster (オススメ) will automatically choose your best cards for a song, and the second one (スタメン) chooses the original members of the song in their original line-up. I don't even use the other rosters as I mostly just play with the first one, the second one if a daily challenge requires it. Cards range from 1* to 5*, and the 10pull in a gacha gives you a guaranteed 4*, and the featured cards for an event are always 4*. While I haven't gotten many 5* in the gacha, I still have a lot, and I'll talk about that in the event section, trust me, you'll love it. Anyway, asides from the rhythm part (the Performance), you have "rehearsal" where you can choose a song, a team for the song and have them "rehearse" - this boosts intimacy (unlocks stories and badges), as well as levels that character's level for the song. The higher the level, the less misses you'll get during autoplay - which is good for event songs so you don't have to grind too much. Rehearsals also help you level your heroine level, which will fully replenish your torepo and chikepo, so it's also useful to spam rehearsals during events. Torepo is what you need for rehearsals and you get a bigger maximum with each level-up, while chikepo are always maximum 5 and you use them to do Performances. You can't play without them, but they replenish really fast (1 every 20 minutes). You can boost your final score by "betting" chips on any of your top3 characters at the end of a Performance, but I suggest keeping the chips for event challenges. (And also, the chips multiply the scores instead of adding a set amount, so best to bet on the 1st one) There's also heroine status, where you basically compete with others to be the most active player, each rank gives you better rewards. Imo, B and S are the best (SS is the best, but a bit;;;; difficult to get), as B gives you chips as rewards, and S gives you torepo replenishing items. SS gives you chikepo replenishers tho.

You also have daily challenges: every day you get two songs with three challenges each. You don't have to finish them all in one day, though, you actually have 25 days to complete them, but every day you get two more, so it's best to be up to date with them. The challenges are usually something like "play x times", "get x score" (or the harder "get x score with スタメン", "get x score with y member", or the easier "get x total score"), "get a combo of x" or "get less than x misses" or "get more than x perfects". For each challenge you get some items (which can also be the premium currency, Dia!), and a challenge point which you can exchange for skill-up items, 5* cards, level-up items, 4* or 5* guarantee gacha tickets.

Secondly the events, they come at you pretty quick (at least imo but then again i'm also juggling three other mobage with bsts, so i'm stretched a bit thin), so there's new content very frequently, and here's my fave part about this game: the event 5* are ridiculously easy to get. The current event card is a 4*, but last event was a 5* and let me tell you, I logged in, I played the event song like. Seven times, got the card. Of course, if you want to skill it up completely, you gotta work your ass off to get all the copies, but I'm saying, if your goal is to just get it... (plus you can still skill them up without the actual copy of the same card, as I said - you can get skill-up items in the challenge point shop, and now you can exchange puzzle pieces you get when exchanging 3* and above cards for a skill-up item). All events give you event points, but some also give flags. Events with only event points will have the first copy of the card relatively low, so it's best to play the event song with 2 chikepo at once, but if it's a flag event, the event card will be easier to get on the flag portion. Since playing on 2 chikepo only doubles event points, it's a bit more grindy, but still possible without spending Dia - though it is faster if you at least get and level some of the featured event 4* (or even the 3*) in the gacha as they boost the amount of points and flags you get. For flag events, it's also best to use the third roster (イベント特効). You don't even have to have too high level cards, the Team B onsen event was one of the first ones I was here for, when I barely knew how to play, and I still managed 2 copies of the Ran 5*. The event songs will also have challenges - similarly to daily challenges. They'll range from "play with a rehearsal level of x or above" to "get a total of x score" or "get an x score total", sometimes "bet x chips". With each challenge, you'll unlock a story part (and reading each event story part gives you premium currency). The event songs will later be played with the reminiscence tickets on the reminiscence tab of the performance screen - these tickets are easy to collect, and you can use them to replay songs, unlock story parts you haven't and get level-up items if you want to further level an event card. Also, during events, on the event screen you'll be able to access the eeru store (eeru being the non-premium currency), it has a lot of stuff, but imo always go for the Dia and chips, if they're available.

And I think that's about it from what I have to say about BSTS? All in all, it's really fun, the story and characters are gripping, and the songs slap sooo hard. I'm pretty sure I ascended when I first heard each Team B song. I definitely suggest playing it, or at least getting to know the story/characters and listening to the songs. Though it's only available in Japan </3 QooApp thankfully exists lmao
