Note
I would argue that Archie *is* kind of inconsiderate. I know that word has a negative connotation, in that people who are inconsiderate don't care about others' needs - which is not a description I feel applies to Archie. So I propose a different definition of the word - he's inconsiderate because he gets a bit stuck in his own head and doesn't think beyond his own immediate situation, which ties into his impulsiveness (1/2)
(2/2) (I personally think he’s not impulsive for any particular reason, it’s just the way he is. DNA or something.) But I want to stress that he’s not *always* like this - we’ve seen him take into account how others feel and make sure he can help them- but it might not be second nature with him. It’s something he needs to consciously remind himself to do, which sadly may also feed into his low opinion of himself and why he probably thinks he’s selfish and cowardly.
So I don’t think ‘inconsiderate’ is the appropriate word to apply to Archie for several reasons. I think that word suggests activity hurting others in a mean-spirited way and/or being aware of it but simply not caring, which isn’t Archie. And my biggest reason that I don’t like that word to describe Archie is that he basically does what he does to either help or protect other people. So it’s a bit … ludicrous (and a tiny bit contradictory) to call the guy who just wants to help and protect his friends and family inconsiderate. You know what I mean? It’ll be like being forever dubbed ‘selfish’ for wanting to have the last slice of dessert or something after you shared the entire cake, and letting that one instance forever define who you are.
However, I completely understand what people mean when they call him that. I just don’t think that’s the appropriate word for it because it suggests a lot of things that Archie isn’t.
That’s why I call him naive instead of inconsiderate. He’s naive in the sense that he doesn’t give much thought outside of immediate circumstances if its to protect his friends and family. (I feel like if the situation doesn’t include his family/friends, he is able to think things through more clearly). But when he gets so focused on his goal, its difficult for him to think outside of that. And sometimes it does backfire, and he ends up hurting a few people. But you know he never means to and he always apologizes, which shows how considerate he is.
So yeah, my argument against the use of that word is not only because the negative connotation but because it plaints Archie as a person that he really isn’t. He’s incredibly naive and I think thats a more apt word for him (other words would be reckless, (morally pure™), idealist, impulsive. basically anything that is naturally hasty instead of premeditated).
