“I don’t think the point was to sell more, but rather to make Harry Styles a house hold name.”
I’m sorry but that will never happen no matter how many interviews he does. You become a household name by working and doing something people actually enjoy. Have you seen Johnny Depp’s filmography? How many singles and albums 1D put out? Chris Pratt is relatively new but my parents know who he is because they LIKED The Office, they LIKED Guardians of the Galaxy, they LIKED The Magnificent Seven. They don’t know where he grew up and they’ve never watched an interview. But my God, he’s an actor and they like his movies! THAT is what makes you a household name. When you see someone everywhere AND LIKE WHAT YOU SEE. They keep shoving a product no one wants in people’s faces. Jesus, Harry’s a musician. Have people forgotten? That’s what the point is supposed to be. People don’t like his music. He has horrible stage presence. He has no new fans.
I’m tired of people saying they’re “introducing” him to a new demographic. They have officially tapped into every single demographic since April. He HAS tried to tap into all these audiences. Hell, he was in a Christopher Nolan movie with every interview wordlwide focused on him, with his fucking face on the posters. I remember everyone saying it was genius because it would introduce him to a new audience. And what happened? Oh yeah, his streaming dropped BELOW 1D’s. Because for all those promo spots all he is ever doing is showing off how vapid and unremarkable he is. Not to mention shallow. He has no personality. He just acts arrogant and rude. They don’t see cupcake babu cutie who is a woke and generous angel who wants to create a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community. None of that shows. They show off a tosser with nothing underneath. People will always form their own opinions based on what they see. I considered myself harrie UNTIL I saw his interviews and I realized he’s changed. Or really, stopped pretending to be the character he was in 1D. That’s how off-putting his character is. He had the anniversary cover of Rolling Stone and praise fron all the rock legends with an appearance on SNL’s highest rated episode of 2017. And look at where he is. Nowhere. With less fan engagement than he had in 2016 and with a former fucking harrie club. It’s ridiculous.
I don’t think people understand the scope of failure his career has hit because somehow they’re forgetting how massive his debut was. That CBS interview is laughable. Wow stop the world, hold everything, there’s a British guy who worked at a bakery and owns 10 guitars. Now his career will surely take off. How enticing. Somehow I will like Kiwi and Two Ghosts now. ???? That’s not the point of promotion. You’re trying to show people something they like, not try and convince them what they already don’t like is appealing because you changed the wrapper. What’s the point? I’m baffled his team doesn’t understand this yet. Either they’re stubborn and in denial their investment went belly-up or they’re just so out of touch with managing an artist in the 21st century that they actually think they’ve made the right decisions for Harry’s career.
You know how I became a fan of Dua Lipa? I saw New Rules. I saw 2 more music videos and currently listen to her album for free on Spotify. She is the 10th most streamed artist on Spotify and she showed up on the scene just last year. That’s what success looks like. Growth. Appeal. Charisma. I’ve never watched an interview. I don’t even know what her voice sounds like. But I like her music and I like her style.
That’s all you need. And it’s what Harry lacks and what they keep wasting money on by trying to overcompensate with these stupid interviews and baiting and manipulation no one is even paying attention to in 2017. Everyone complains and whines that Louis has the worst promo in the world when his music is still charting higher than Harry. That’s the point. They are musicians making and selling music. Credibility is worth shit if your music is not selling. The illusion of exclusivity is worth shit if it’s not helping to sell music. A good product sells itself.
I don’t like Harry. I was wedged so far up his ass I bought 3 copies of his album just so it would chart higher. Now I’m regretting ever buying 1 copy. I don’t like his music. I don’t like the lyrics on his album. I don’t like his boring ever-changing and transparent interviews where he reveals nothing about himself in an effort to lie by ommission like it’s cute. I don’t like how arrogant he is. I see new interviews and I scroll with an eyeroll because I’ve already made up my mind that I won’t like it. And that’s what’s happening with his career right now.
Everyone knows who Harry is. Don’t worry, he’s well known. He isn’t flopping because people are forgetting about him. He’s flopping because they’re ignoring him. No amount of bought credibility will change that.
