‘Assimilation’ Hornets are known to do what is referred to as ‘hawking’ where they rip off a bees head then eat the rest of the bee. With that in mind, my aim was to recreate a split second snapshot of this hornet ‘hawking’, inspired by a recent nature documentary I was watching. Some of you may be familiar with a concept in photography which discusses the photograph representing the death of a moment, a snapshot in time and I do feel that in itself has inspired me to create this still life.
