I've decided that Ako and Tomoe still get to be sibling adjacent in the eternal gales au but like in a comedy of errors kind of way. They've been able to message eachother since they were kids and have picked up a similar but to the left dynamic as in canon but over all the years they've known eachother they've never once realized that the other is an alien. it breaks me to think that they weren't just a couple, they grew up together. alisa states somewhere in the final gambit (?) that tobias hawthorne also had a hand in raising her, which means she probably did things the way the hawthornes did. she was the original 'one of the hawthornes' girl. the boys (aside nash) probably saw her as family just as much as the other hawthornes.

in my head, the two of them were probl the bestest of friends. and when they entered their young adult age, they decided they wanted more.

to alisa, it was true love, probably. but i think to nash, he felt like it was just another thing so make his grandfather happy. i mean, he surely loved alisa. but it was definitely the pressure of satisfying his grandfather that made the relationship difficult.

when im in a positive mood, i like to think that the break up was mutual. they both agreed to it, and they both decided that breaking up was whats best. but realistically, if we're genuinely takin context from how alisa acted, it definitely wasnt as mutual. i feel like alisa tried to hold on, tried to keep loving nash. but nash made it clear that it was either him or his grandfather. which is probl why alisa acted the way she did.

alsooo i cant help but think that jlb just had to make them break up for the sake of fitting libby somewhere into the plot—which dont get me wrong!! i fucking adore libbynash. they were one of my most anticipated couple in the entire series. buttttt, the second-chance lover in me kinda had a little bit of hope for alisa and nash. anyone else? just me? damn.

because i rly think abt this, 24/7. would libby have been as significant in the books if she wasnt nash's love interest? (which she honestly alrdy is seeing that shes legit avery's second mama and protector) or would nash be significant if he wasnt lib's love interest?

Hmmm wait okay so Sam actually heard the first Ink5oul case in episode 2, so I wonder if Gwen ever manages to open up to him again (Which I completely understand if she doesn't) he might believe her because he's heard what Ink5oul's tattoos can do. It really interests me though that Ink5oul has no idea what happened to them. I looked up Sutherland Macdonald, nothing of note. But I think it's pretty obvious that by TMAGP, they found out the tattoo on the dead body was an Oscar Jarrett tattoo and was looking to get some... face-to-face inspiration.

I'm worried about Sam and Alice. I mean honestly, Alice does have full right to step away from all of this but her dismissiveness of Sam this whole time probably doesn't help her when it comes to him. She wants to protect him, but he wants the truth. It actually makes me slightly more sure that the Dyer in the ARG was probably her pre-transition because of the empathy levels. Not that she doesn't feel empathy, but I don't think she feels like there's anything she can say to change things, so she doesn't try. Which is exactly what she says in this ep.

so, i did some sword design sketches since i wasnt happy how they kept changing during this chapter alone and while doing these i realized i only had a problem with ghirahims sword form

reason being that demise has a swirl kind of theme, to fit with fire (something the old design didnt rly have) and he put alot of care into designing it, while hylias theme is very angular, bc ice, and she only did the bare minimum

some more info; ghirahims actual blade form is orange, the reason its so dark here is bc thats actually an extra layer of armor demise gave him after losing his second blade spirit, for extra protection and also to widen the blade itself to compensate for the missing one

said extra armor is way less durable than the real blade but its way more than enough for pretty much everything, a fight against another deity isnt something that used to occur much and even so it offers a little more protection since the armor can be reforged rather easily, even by ghirahim himself, although that takes alot longer

(this is also to explain the dark armor ghirahim has in skyward sword that you need to break through at the end)

i hope i can keep the designs more consistent now, i like kinda like these :)

op 1: KICK BACK tbh wasnt a massive fan of the song when i came out but its grown on me w the full context & lyrics it slayed idc NOW THE VISUALS ... filled me w euphoria when i first saw it have (re)watched half the fucking movies referenced ONLY BC MIDTERMS WAS BEATING MY ASS .. so creative and fun and dynamic and hectic as fuck the timing and directing on this is like incomprehensibly good. its funny asf and has such beautiful lively enviornments and lighting and such a cohesive feel despite how batshit everything is NO ONE HAS TALKED ABT THE SHOT W THE MOUNTAINS AND SKY AND THE BULLETS. AM I THE ONLY OEN WHOSE INSANE ABT THAT ONE. so so beautiful literally a look into the minds of fujimoto and the ani staff and a gift upon this earth. 10/10

ed 1: SUCH A GOOD SONG !!!!!!! fit super well w the end of the first ep & is just genuinely such a banger. credits roll was smart for the airing of the actual ep, helped me take in the whole ep and appreciate the best parts of it. the mv released on mappas channel is rly solid considering it just recycled scenes from the actual ep !! love first half of the vid + the zoom in on pochitas tail the most ofc !! 6/10 bc the song is a banger but its just no as obsessable bc of the lack of og visuals :(

ed 2: GORGEOUSSS VISUALS tho it doesn’t feel v well aligned w the tone of csm BUT STILL !!!! song aligns super well w the visuals atleast & i love love the look of the animation, the environments especially are so beautiful 😭 i think the denji falling into the sky scene were especially well timed w the music and made me v emo about his character. esp love the hayakawa fam focus and how power is literally the one who PULLS HIM BACK DOWN .. beloveds 7.5/10 ok i like it picasso

ed 3: FAVE SONG its so good. so much to say abt this one rapid change of scene linework shading color sfx is fucking insane each unique aes makes me physically ill its so good. so gripping the TRANSITION from makima goddess to hayakawa fam W THE DOOR. AND THE TRAUMA. fave part is the hayakawa family shots towards the end that combined w the lyrics perfectly encapsulates what csm is thematically to me. goretastic insanity used as a means of making the intensely human obviously doomed connections at the heart of the story that much more impactful. fully embraces the best parts of csm and rips my heart out all in the course of 90 seconds 10/10 idc idc

ed 4: POWAAA !!!! song is such a fucking banger i mean it this shit has had me dancing for weeks BUT THE VISUALS .... so dynamic and insane love how they played dress up w her and also made sure the audience knew she was a lil freak. theres so much to love and appreciate about the visuals and how fucking sick the movements are and the colors but truly this ones just vibes. 9/10

ed 5: fs my FAVE of all the ones currently out (i think this is the most popular opinion lmao) but the combination of the frantic, very dense visuals and a rly cool fast paced song scratched smth in my brain. so much inspiration to dig through and BEAUTIFUL use of colors, lighting, and effects animation omg. Those shots of himeno are stapled on the inside of my eyelids i love them. so many art references w/ a great selection to specifically represent the chaos of the eternity devil love the use of optical illusions (ONCE AGAIN W THE LIGHTING !!!) and use of timing to create a jarring effect (horses running in slo mo (same w some shots of the chs) immediately being contrasted w rapid movement/blinking of eyes, fireworks, shots of the sky w the clouds racing across) as well as the rapid changing of one shot to another is so insane. another detail i love is that it has a almost collage like look bc each background/piece of ch or effects animation has dif linework, uses dif brushes, as well very unique lighting and shading. also so so much to dissect w how it foreshadows later events (if u start looking there are like. 4 dif instances of guns in this bitch holy fuck) and the themes of the work as a whole but i have classes a life etc that will have to wait til winter break. so genuinely obsessed w this one it was literally the one that convinced me (most obnoxious csm fan) that mappa knows exactly what theyre doing and are likely making the actual anime the way they are as a deliberate commitment to make it even more insane later down the line. i am a drastic rapid tonal shifts enjoyer i love this ed 10/10 its my gf

ed 6: not a massive fan of the visuals or the song for this one :( the instrumental of the song felt kinda jarring after the sequence of denji jumping into the eternity devils mouth, i was def expecting a dif kind of vibe. the visuals were cool, but i don't feel like the static characters were used particularly well. some of the transitions and “camera” movements also rly didn't feel very well suited to the cuts they were in. my fave part was the settings and backgrounds, especially the textures and the way the movement “through” the bgs were done, tho the 5th ed had a very similar concept and i think executed it better. kind of disappointing with how much i enjoyed the prev eds, but it was still enjoyable to watch and analyze how they constructed the visuals. 4/10 bc i respect what they were trying to do i just dont think they had the time to develop a unique vision

I think chrissys mom isnt the cartoonishly evil villain that we see/that we often read abt in fic. I dont think shes ever screamed "FAT PIG!" at chrissy or anything like that. I think the hallucinations were purposefully exaggerated to show that they werent real.

I think that the Real Torture (when vecna was actually killing chrissy) was the accurate representation - sugar-sweet voice for what seems like an innocuous message from non abusive mothers would be "i know you like this outfit and it doesnt fit so im adjusting it so it does fit so you dont have to throw it out bc i love you!".

Except we know that bc chrissy is bulimic and has past trauma, that her mom likely killed her w a thousand cuts - making hurtful remarks abt her weight, her figure, the way her clothes fit, the food shes eating, how she mom was so thin and beautiful at chrissys age and how she wishes chrissy could experience being thin and beautiful, shaming her for her diet, the sizes she has to buy for her clothes, etc. So they were clearly intended to be controlling and abusive but all coated as sugary sweet innocuous concerned-abt-your-health etc whatever. Which is why in the Real Torture when her mom turns around, her mom's face is monstrous - she looks and sounds like a loving mother, but actually theres a monster inside her. Chrissy doesnt necessarily hate her - most victims of abuse dont outright hate their abusers, theres usually an extremely complicated relationship of hate and love and resentment and guilt and hope etc etc which makes it all even harder to naviagte - but she internalizes her moms words and hates herself. Also why her dads eyes and mouth are stitched shut - he refuses to see and listen to the real message that her mom is sending and he refuses to do anything abt it.

I do think that had chrissy lived she would have gone to college/moved out and eventually overcome it all but unfortunately we wont ever see it 😕

As for wayne and eddie:

Obviously wayne loved eddie and i agree w the actors remarks in his interview. I think bc hes Wayne Munson and Eddie mentions that the Munson name has already been tarnished by his dad it means that wayne is his dads brother. So i think eddie was probably around 12 or 13 when he permanently moved in w wayne, bc he was living w his dad long enough for him to learn to hotwire cars instead of fishing and playing ball. My guess is his dad was in and out of jail for most of his life and wayne probably took care of him while his dad was in jail.

As for his mom, i know a lot of ppl probably think she ODd but im split on that. On one hand i dont think hed sell the rly hard shit if she ODd - and we know he doesnt just sell weed, ketamine is pretty intense, so my guess is he also sells acid, shrooms, maybecoke, etc. If she did OD i dont think hed sell heroin/whatever she ODd on. Plus i dont think hes ever been to jail bc he said he didnt want to end up like his dad, and heroin/crank/crack/etc is absolutely hard, life ruining shit, and also guaranteed jail time. So i can see how maybe she ODd. But I also can easily see how maybe she just up and left one day without a word. Eddie clearly has a hard time connecting (except w Chrissy lol) and opening up, and i can see how fear of abandonment might play into that - which also might be a contributing factor in his guilt bc in a way he abandoned chrissy in his trailer (he did the same thing that his mom did to him, etc).

Either way, she wasnt in the picture when wayne took him in, and i also think maybe it was 13ish bc obviously he connected w chrissy at the talent show and 8th grade is usually 13-14 so if a cute girl was nice to him during a traumatic time in his life i can see how that lasted w him. So yes wayne took him in even tho he couldnt rly afford to - pretty sure his trailer is only 1 bedroom and wayne sleeps on a camp bed in the living room, and so he couldnt afford to move to a 2 bedroom trailer. I definitely think he knew eddie sold and that eddie probably contributed to expenses w some of that money. Waynes gruff so i doubt he was all hugs and kisses but i think eddie definitely knew wayne loved him. I also think that while eddie definitely loved him - and wayne KNEW eddie loved him - eddie also maybe had complicated feelings towards him given the circumstances under which eddie moved in w him. i wouldnt be surprised if he resented him a little bit bc he associates wayne w his dad going to jail and his mom bouncing, vs seeing him as a savior, and wayne not being able to rly afford to take care of him, etc. Not logical and i think he knows its not logical but to a kid going thru trauma the feelings arent always logical (see chrissy/her mom) and get complicated

Eddie was also kind of self centered when it came to wayne. He didnt bother to clean up after himself, he left wayne to find chrissys horrifically tortured body by himself, didnt ever ask The Party to pass on a message of apology/thanks/anything to wayne, etc. He also probably didnt offer to give wayne the bedroom as he got older even tho the camp bed probably killed waynes back by now and eddie was at school while wayne slept and apparently crashed at ricks often enough to warrant a mention, and I wouldnt be surprised if he slept in his van after a night out, etc. Im not totally sure on that, bc i can also see him trying to offer up his room and wayne being like "no its fine" but idk im split.

I think had eddie lived he would have moved out at some point but still helped wayne out no matter what by getting a legit on the books job

I'm starting to remember Collei's time in Mondstadt. I wasnt rly active in all the webcomic stuff, but I was a background observer. And I talked to Collei a few times- Mostly cause Mom (Lisa) scared the hell outta her. (I get it, alotta kids end up scared of her heh)

Moving on-

Collei didnt really talk back to me much- I wasnt rly used to having so much space to fill in a conversation. Normally I was the quieter one while Benny rambled on. She didnt seem to mind my rambling tho. She calmed down the first time we talked anyway (does it really count as a conversation when Im the only one talking? /hj). She was so scared of mom she was shaking BAD. I get it, she was in such a new and scary environment and seemed to only barely be comfortable with Amber. Of course the others were terrifying.

I'm glad I seemed to help at least- And she liked my tea so thats another win.

I'm not sure if we ever kept contact, or re-met later down the line. I'm positive she wouldnt have forgotten me tho. I did wish she had stuck around at the time. She seemed interesting and I was sure if she had warmed up to us, she would've fit right into the group (Benny, Fischl, and I). And I honestly think visiting Sumeru would have been a treat. I looked up to Cyno a lot already ,would've been cool to see him some more too. (he had visited mom a few times before assisting Collei since they were rather close friends) Though mom may have been too paranoid of me joining the Akademiya to allow that.

At least I know Collei made it to a better place, thats good. Its what she deserved after going through so much.

class a (the big 5) r on a marine research vessel looking for the reason why boats keep getting fucked up in this area despite no known dangerous organisms documented there (but th class e mermaids r there just hidden). gakuhou prob knows theres smth fishy (pun not intended) going on & is sending them on a wild goose chase ig. gakuhou is fully intending sinister bullshit but the big 5 dont rly know the whole of whats going on but they are still assholes.

mae is astronomer who got to tag along for plot reasons but hes focusing on the stars in the region where theyre sailing around instead of the water. mae is prob mistreated on the vessel cuz he got on it thru connections or watever & they dont Ljke him so they like fuck with his research n whatnot cuz it disrupts their own. idk. like they prob throw his files into the water and r like oops haha lol accident sorgy. (not accident not sorry).

umm well i cant decide if this instance would be like the big 5 throwing something off or class e trying to fuck up the boat (to keep ppl away from their home obviously cuz they dont wanna be discovered!!!) but mae falls off and iso saves him (typical mermaid au bullshit) but like mae only sees a flash of isos torso before he swims off OBVIOUSLY cus theyre NOT SUPPOSED TO LET PPL KNOW THEYRE THERE LOL but iso prob saved mae cuz he saw that mae wasnt one of the big 5. like he saw mae was getting mistreated n whatnot n couldnt let mae also be a victim.

regardless of whether it's just mae who falls overboard or if all of them fall their boat isnt fully destroyed and is fine to operate so theyre still there but now mae at least knows theres like. a person or something !?! so he starts to get more interested in the water along with the stars which makes the big 5 Suspicious 🤨 but they dont know the whole story either. then for plot related reasons they finally capture someThing (someOne) (it's Iso) in like some net or some shit n since mae is more interested in the sea now he ends up being the one closest to it n he sees iso there n they look at each other and mae is like Holy shit its that beautiful beast who saved me earlier. and he also has a fucking beautiful koi tail what the fuck. and isos like Hey man whats up lol im kind of in a pickle here. n even tho mae is like awestruck by this beautiful person (?) infront of him n he has so many questions he also knows the big 5 r gonna come asap so he makes the split second decision to fuck up the net on purpose so iso can escape n iso stays around in the water long enough to hear that mae takes the heat for it so that further enforces in isos mind that mae can be trusted u know what i mean.

i dont have any specific plot related ideas beyond this YET but i needed to get it all out before i died, badly. thanks.

my enthusiasm has gradually petered out over the past few days bc i had been so busy + havent been getting enough sleep, but aa2 was a truly amazing experience for me ESPECIALLY the last case, so i still want to dissect my thoughts on it although im not as hyped up as i was right after i finished playing it (i was jumping around and grinning and pacing around my room for hours and shit 😁) i have so many thoughts so im gonna split my review rambling whatever this is into different parts, this one is my thoughts on the first three cases :D

1st case was nothing spectacular.. pretty long for a tutorial level but i guess it was acting as padding for the more dramatic 2nd case.. i guessss. at least it was very funny and not too hard to solve. and it was also trying to be more thorough in teaching the gameplay mechanics during court sessions and making sure players have an idea of what to expect in later cases.. probably... its whatever whatever. at least an amnesic concussion is still the funniest way to reteach a tutorial so im so happy they went with that.

i liked the second case!! i wasnt able to figure out how the clothing box fit into everything until the very end, so i could rly understand wright's panic, bc for a good chunk of the case it really did seem like maya had killed someone. i think this case felt the most 'turnabout' of them all, bc in other cases there were other plausibilities and culprits right from the get-go, but w the way this murder happened in a locked room with (seemingly) only 2 individuals inside, it actually did feel impossible to save maya at first. so it was very satisfying to pick apart the lies and inconsistencies and be able to arrive to the truth. and it was nice to see kurain village, and learn more about the feys in general. and it was nice to see mia again!!! i wasnt sure if she would be coming back or not. mia and maya's reunion at the end of the case was super touching, bc one of the saddest moments in aa1 to me was during the 4th case when maya couldnt channel mia, and was wondering if she would ever be able to see her again.. so it was nice that she was really able to see her again :')

speaking of mia, i dont know if this series will explore this further, but just thinking abt her state of existence is lowkey kinda scary.. like, whats it like being dead? whats the difference between being alive and dead, considering mia is still somewhat mentoring and advising us despite being dead? could a fey, who can just possess another fey like that, be able to steal the body of another fey if they were killed? (this sounds like a possible case in the future, i wonder if this will happen..) will mia be like that forever? will future generations be able to speak to this mia, can she like.... rest? disappear? does she want to? can she? and its also pretty sad too, with how in aa1 when maya wondered if she could see her again; i feel like its less sad to have someone you love die and have that be that, than it is for them to die and you can maybe or maybe not see them again.. like i dunno. i hope this gets explored more, im curious abt it!!

also, mia being in this state of 'is but isnt here' really makes phoenix's character more enriching to me, bc in the first game he lost someone very dear and important to him... except not really. and we never really see him properly grieve mia in any extent if my memory is correct. like he didnt really dwell on it, he had to push thru it in order to defend maya. but then now in the second game, when we compare wright's almost... flippancy towards mia's death to his refusal to even acknowledge edgeworth's 'death'.... its a super interesting difference. this isnt to say that phoenix necessarily values one character over the other, but bc mia isnt necessarily 'gone'... there technically isnt much to mourn? kinda?? so the way we see phoenix behave in this game irt edgeworth, we get to properly see how phoenix behaves in the face of actual loss.. and his answer to loss is to completely reject it. and it works amazingly with gameplay too, bc he's really just compartmentalizing tf out of his issues and being like Nope. Let's Examine This Room Instead :) while maya or pearl just stares at him like 😐 it adds an extremely compelling layer of depth to wright's character!! and these moments of wright's rejection of his loss are done just the perfect amount of times, very seldomly and very restrainfully, that it creates this perfect air of tension throughout the entire game before it finally blows over in the last case. I LOVE IT RRARRGHHHH

pearl's and franziska's introduction to the story were amazing as well! i had no idea what pearl's character would be like... definitely was not expecting her to be mia's vessel #2 😭 but no yes pearl was an infinitely adorable and entertaining character, it is just so so so so awesome to have a tiny child who speaks so elegantly and have such mature tastes, but still be a cute tiny child. i love you pearl. if shes not in the next game im going to be REALLY REALLY SAD....... and franziska came in with just a massive dominating personality like Yes!!! she livened up so much of the game with her presence. im going to give franziska her own post bc she deserves it so ill talk abt her more in depth later.

and of course the ini miney twist... i already said this but the reasoning for the reveal (you cant drive without a license) is fucking IJBOL but ignoring the absurdity of that, it was a really good twist that i didnt see coming but could still be satisfied with. it was also really sad that morgan had to be convicted too, for pearl's sake i had really hoped that tht wouldnt be the case :( all in all the second case was very suspenseful, emotional, and very very good. i really liked it!

and the third case............................................................................

i wanted to put a reaction image here. but i could not find anything that could express the magnitude of my immense disgust. disappointment. resentment. and unhappiness................

i already posted a lot of my main grievances with it in my lb tag, and thinking abt this case again is just self-inflicting psychic damage so ill keep it short. but man did it suck. cuz currently in life i can only play aa like 2/3 days a week and then its back to 4/5 days of work. i did the first two cases in 3 days, worked for the rest of the week, and came back in anticipation bc the second case left off on such a good note. and then to use my 2 free days on a case this shitty... BROOOOOO FUCK THIS SHIT MAN!!! i spent the following days of work just being PISSED AS HELLLL cuz like i wanted to play a better case but now i could seeth as i worked bc of this SHITTY CASE like not only did it suck but it had to be LONG too. not like final case long but normal case long but ugh it sucked sucked sucked. ive said this before but i get they were trying to make the murder seem like a magic trick that we had to figure out the inner workings of, but like.... it just fucking sucked and wasnt well-executed at all. it didnt help that nearly every character in this case was incredibly grating and annoying and the one bearable character, acro, had to be the killer.. also that fucking ventriloquist like why was he standing around in the second day when there was literally nothing to talk to him about? also why did the ringmaster wear max's fucking clothes like wha..... i dont even care anymoreeeee 😭 ok bye bye im gonna gush about the 4th case in a seperate post now cuz that was the best fucking thing ever!!!!!!

AHH ok ok . i love the guy!! ill jsut explain how my opinion of him changed as i went thru the game shfhd. ok so at first i literally only knew he was a lawyer guy and the truecroute . it was kinda funny whenever hed pop up when u least expect ig in the other routes because it felt like beign jumpscared 😭😭

hmm when i startednhis route i expected him to be lile a typical uhh. smart srs megane type char yk ? and he kinda was? but he was also a lot more hostile towards towa than i expected (in the brginning!!!) :0 i know he was genuinely suspicious abt him at first but i think his whole. srs lawyer Business only persona is cute becayse underneath all thst he id literally judtna guy!!!! like. i love how normal he is hes not crazy or fucked up he is. jsut a fucking guy a decent human being!! before i played the game i wasnt sure if id like him bcs he seemed kinds plain but by the end i think thats what i ended up loving abt him like he jsut feels like. Just a Decent Guy to me and thats what feels appealing to me. and perhaps thats what towa need in hsi life,,,,i also think hes a great fit for towa like the way he understands towa n why he does certain things. and his way of providing support n reaching out to him rly works. also thenfsct that hes so similar to towa which helps towa relate to him n find comfort in him (same scars n all) but also being different in a way that. hes able to provide the right support to him...

i feel like they did a great job drveloping towa n fujiedas relationship in a way that feels natural/not rushed considering they had no prior history togehter and like. sometiems for trueroutes ur left womdering Why this guy? n whatndoes this guy have thats so different from the others.mbut w fujieda u rly get it by the end n ur like ok if theres ajyone whos the true route its got to be him....

I dont wanna seem like a Rocket hater cause I like his character but I think Gunn got way too invested in the rodent that I feel like it wasnt just Gamora who got the short end of the stick in here. I feel like every single member got very little resolution and/or it was left at the very end with very little time for development. This did not feel like a guardians movie, this felt like a Rocket movie to the point where Gunn was so afraid that if the focus shifted to another character that it will stop the story from being about Rocket and therefore hurted the film. We already talked about Gamora, but Drax, Mantis, and Nebula got their stories wrapped up in less then 30 minutes and while they were good endings it felt like there wasnt enough thought of what what they wanted to do until the very end. Groot was just there and had no story at all, he was cool like always, but character wise he is just there as the team's mascot. Peter's was nice but my complain is that it is super weird that the first two movies focused on him and his parents but then in the third film it is so heavily focused on Rocket to the point where the shift on focus was so sudden. Compared to the focus on Peter, the first two movies still managaed to balanced well his story vs the other members, while not taking the spotlight of him, but in Vol 3 that balanced was broken and it felt like Rocket took so much of the story that other characters had no time for their stories unlike the 2 previous films.

It feels so weird and bold that at this point I wonder if Gunn's view changed so much since Vol 1 to the point where he wished that in the first film he would have made Rocket the main protagonist instead of Peter and took the chance in Vol 3, and for me it ended up backfiring for everyone else in the story. I know Gunn makes wonderful stories and this was a good one, but he is not perfect, he got too invested to the point that it was just too much for one side and very little to the other. The whole thing of Rocket being the secret protagonist felt also like a thing made up at the last minute specifically for the third film.

though i also agree that vol 3 felt unbalanced with how much focus the other characters got, i didn't quite feel like the focus on rocket came completely out of nowhere. i remember gunn talking about rocket being his fav even back during the vol 2 era when i first joined the fandom, and while watching vol 3 i noticed we were continuing some threads from the other films, from minor things like rocket loving music to major things like rocket's "i didn't ask to be made" and related lines. i think exploring that further was a solid, natural next step for the gotg's story.........maybe more before the whole thanos thing happened.

if we'd gotten something exploring the consequences of iw/endgame on the gotg after endgame, before vol 3, i think this shift to focus on rocket wouldn't have felt so jarring, at least for me. especially bc i felt like there were other, past things involving rocket that we didn't even see acknowledged or unpacked in this rocket-centric story! like whatever was happening between peter and rocket when rocket took off in iw (especially since peter has now made rocket captain, after their last onscreen conversation on the matter was peter being against rocket being captain), how rocket has adjusted to having everyone back after mourning them for 5 years, how rocket feels on the gamora situation, etc. and of course, we also didn't rly get anything covering the other characters' adjusting back to life post-endgame either; the way the gamora situation was handled for every other character besides peter is a perfect example of this. so i think vol 3's story would've worked better either as a 4th movie or if it had been reduced a little to fit as a simultaneous story to unpacking the consequences of iw/endgame.

as for the rest of the characters in vol 3, yeah, i think a lot of their arcs needed more fleshing out, especially to show/justify their respective endings. like for one, if that many characters want to retire or temporarily step away from the gotg, i think that should've been set up at the beginning of the film. like how with peter, we saw him shift his perspective about returning to earth from the beginning to the end of the film—it would've been nice to see similar changes in the other characters that would result in their respective endings
