it rlly sucks to see professional sources have little/lacking nuance abt queer history especially people who could be considered more trans-y
#was watching a queer hist doc and they refered to dr james barry as a lesbian + used she/her pronouns for him the entirity of the time#and like sure. he isn’t alive for us to ask him his pronouns. and we shouldn’t label him any which ways lesbian or trans man. bc he didn’t#have those types of concepts available for him to personally identify as#but like. he pretty explicitly wanted to be known only as a man in his death.#knowing that we should esp as queer historians at least respect him enough to call him by his chosen gendered language#you guys research this! you should know this! you have nuance abt other aspects of queer historical life! why not this
