#was the thing(???) that finally snapped him out of almost 80 years of resentmentship without a second thought?

all i could think was...he meant "I didn't fully appreciate that it was a gift"? "never knew" as in didn't take it in/believe/acknowledge it as.
but yeah, i blinked at that too.
(honestly it always bothered me that they never drop the v word in e1 and louis jumps into this with both feet without any instructional pamphlet on By The Way, You'll Be Eating People, and he suffered it like a curse accordingly)
i have my various cheers and beefs for iwtv s2 but this one is a beef. "i never knew it was a gift 🥺". ok it's an idea that could work but it doesn't follow at all. from what we've seen. it comes from nowhere. nothing in season 2 builds to this concept.
"it wasn't a lie: you meant it as a gift" you could make work if you sprinkle in a few more building blocks. but also how does "i never knew it was a gift" work when in the first monologue in the church lestat calls it a gift. he calls it that.
#the end of e8 & their reunion (while lovely) was so speedy quick that there's more i hope they unpack bc...#MAN we sailed through a lot of emotional beats#louis admitting he was fucking miserable and set out to make lestat miserable was like a 30 second reveal vs The Entirety of Season 1 lol#him finding out armand not only TRIED TO help kill him but ACTIVELY planned to kill him#was the thing(???) that finally snapped him out of almost 80 years of resentmentship without a second thought?#and catapulted him back to nola to reconcile with lestat?#okay i mean okay i'll roll with that but GUYS there's a little bit of whiplash here#personally#if they'd consulted me i'dve said hey let's go old school with a two-part finale because you labored hugely for 15 episodes to#get to these moments#and suddenly you're running full out like cinderella at 11:59 for some reason#iwtv#WOW sorry...i didn't mean to go off on a tangent#acknowledging my uneasiness with that line unlocked something in me
