How can miscommunication be one of the best and worst plot devices in the world at the same time

Miscommunication when it's character driven/ motivated by fundamentally different perspectives on the world>>>>> miscommunication when it would be easy and in character for them to just talk but they don't for some reason

#was still thinking about Door 5 in fatamoru and why it works so well for me #and it really comes down to like. It was impossible for Giselle and Michel to understand each other when they first met #because both of them were avoiding their own traumas in a way that created a feedback loop #where Giselle would double down on her positivity and Michel would read that forced positivity as a lie/trick and act aggressively #further triggering Giselle #Giselle NEEDED to break down in front of Michel and Michel NEEDED to be forced to be vulnerable in front of Giselle for them to get anywher #compare that to like... Door 3 even #where the miscommunication is still well written. But is purposefully INFURIATING #because it's externally driven by Maria even though it's still reinforced by WHG and Jacapo's personalities #And then compare that to the million examples in other works where the miscommunication is ENTIRELY outside driven
