alright mini rant but I really, really dislike how men are treated like they play a *lesser role* in reproduction just because they’re not the one carrying the baby

Like. I’m sorry but who the fuck was the one inseminating the woman in the first place? Even among couples who *want kids*, the process can sometimes takes *months* of actively trying! Just because the man isn’t the one carrying the baby doesn’t mean he didn’t put in any effort or doesn’t deserve to have a say in anything, or if he even *wants* the baby at all!

The idea that men can’t be affected by pregnancies -- wanted or unwanted -- is so stupid to me. Men should be actively involved in their kid’s life, even before they’re born! It affects the man too! It fundamentally changes the lives of both him and his partner because it’s, you know, a wholeass child. It affects both parents emotionally as well.

As for unwanted pregnancies, you’re supposed to... y’know... talk this shit through if it’s a consensual instance. Not be like “well I’M carrying the baby so MY feelings trump yours!” no. that’s not fucking healthy. I’m not saying to let anyone *pressure* you into getting an abortion, but maybe fuckin’ listen to your husband’s concerns about fatherhood? Isn’t it best to wait until you’re both ready, or help him prepare for fatherhood, or hell, at least not *automatically ostracize* him if he decides his best bet is to leave? Trust me, sometimes no father is better than a shitty one, and the only time I’m going to feel disdain is if they refuse to pay child support for no good reason besides negligence.

And before someone inevitably brings up “well, they should’ve used birth control”, *no* birth control is 100% effective. Birth control can fail, condoms can break, or hell, worst case scenario a partner can lie about using protection as a means of “locking” their partner into a relationship (I see women do this a lot with lying about birth control). There’s nuances to this sort of thing.

And of course, there’s always rape cases where it’d be extremely fucking cruel to force a man to pay for a child that he was *raped into having.*
