It’s still so wild and annoying to me that someone found my fix-it fic for Warren Westridge’s death and decided to pass it off as an original short story. I may or may not have filled Amazon’s form right, but, with everything going on, I don’t have time to push for its takedown.
JD Geraghty or whoever tf & his Plush Books business can go to hell.

Letter from Jonathan Hyde
Hello everybody. I promised that later I would publish the full version of the letter from Mr. Hyde. And here it is. I decided to convert it into *interview* format, for your better understanding of the text. First I will write a question from my letter, then I write his answer from his letter. I am very grateful to Mr. Hyde for responding to my letter. It's very nice that he sent me an answer for Christmas 😊. I am also grateful to his daughter, who helped me to solve the problem with lost letter, and allowed to contact her father by e-mail. Reposts are allowed. All Comments Welcome. 👍 J.H: Dear *my name*. Many thanks for your letter and my apologies for the tardiness of this reply. I have been working (I think my daughter may have mentioned) and am just now finding time to get in touch. My apologies, also, that my previous reply didn’t reach you, the mail can be troublesome at times. At any rate I do try to respond as often as possible so hopefully this will reach you this time. I: Mr. Hyde, I will not probably surprise you if I tell that I grew on your movies. Richie Rich, Titanic, The Mummy, Jumanji – all the 90's children know and remember them. The first movie I watched with you was Richie Rich. But I particularly memorized you in «Anaconda». I still remember that feeling of a child's offense when your character died, and I discontentedly screamed «It’s unfair! He jumped! How could this snake catch him if he jumped?». I seemed to be 7 years old at that time. By the way, I heard that allegedly in the original version of the script your character Warren Westridge survived. Is it true? Or just some silly Internet rumours? J.H: It is interesting that you should ask about the fate of Warren Westridge. Unfortunately he was always, as we say in the movie business "a designated meal" - that is to say, it was written from the beginning that he would not survive the entire film. Gratifyingly however, Warren was not the first to succumb to the snake’s jaws, served up as a dessert rather than an appetizer. It's always pleasing not to be the first character to die on screen. I: But after the 90th, I somehow lost you from my vision... J.H: Since all the movies you mentioned I have done a fair amount of theatre work. Captain Hook was a great role, which I performed over 100 times and there was also a world tour of King Lear with Ian McKellen, a lot of fun and a great trip. Speaking of travel I have been to Russia. I played The Royal Hunt of the Sun in Moscow and Leningrad in 1974 and I remember enjoying the experience immensely. I: I remember you in «Spooks» series. And, oh my God! Mr. Hyde, I know that you do not know Russian, but you have to know this. The surname of your character in Spooks might have brought wild laughter to every Russian viewer. Ilya Gavrik. Because of the word “gavrik” in Russian means… (are you ready?)… an underage thief! And I laughed every time when your character was addressed by your last name. J.H: I confess that I didn't know that Gavrik means «underage thief» though it wouldn’t surprise if it was an intentional writer’s joke - they do sometimes pop little laughs in. I: But really I wish to talk to you about «The Strain». First, I cannot help but ask – how this turned out that you were the only actor on The Strain who had to dye your own hair? As far as I know, all other actors were given wigs why were you forced to dye it? Is it some kind of discrimination? Ha-ha just kidding. J.H: First of all - it was a wig! In fact I did dye my hair in the hope of not having to wear the wretched thing but continuity demanded that the wig stayed. I would much rather not have had it but there we are. I: I wish to say thank you – the work which you have done on Palmer is simply enormous! You took one of the most boring and uninteresting characters of the book and turned him into the most ambiguous, complicated and therefore most realistic character in the series … my applause to you! From the character I cared least about in the books, Palmer turned into my favorite character in the series by the season two. You have shown him as a person – capable of loving, care, worry, grieve, able to doubt his decisions. And such evolution happens to him gradually, as he slowly changed from the season to season. I cannot say the same for the rest of The Strain characters, as all remain in their initial stage. Except for Zach Goodweather perhaps, but this has been expected by everybody who’s read the books while Palmer's “evolution” was a really pleasant surprise. And right for this reason I just hate an outcome of the third season! Mr. Hyde, I feel so sorry for that the screenwriters have destroyed all your great work on Eldritch by killing him so ridiculously and stupidly! It is both silly from the plot viewpoint (such cunning and pragmatic person as Palmer would never have gone alone at night to the place where his enemy would search for him in the first place, especially if Palmer knew that he could be infected with worms for the sake of obtaining information on a bomb), and from the character development viewpoint. What for were all those flashbacks about Palmer’s past? What for were all those attempts to humanize him and transfer to the light side? What for we needed his tragic love storyline? All these things make no sense anymore as he is dead and his body is used by the Master. I am upset not because Eldritch was killed, I knew that he would most likely die at the end of season three. I just really thought that all these changes happening to him were leading to something bigger… Personally, I thought that at the end he would have overcome his fear of death and perhaps do something that would allow him to take revenge but killed him in the process. J.H: Your concerns regarding Palmer's demise are understandable but, as is so often the case, the writers and producers have final say in such matters, regardless of what may or may not make logical sense. There are a great many ways the storylines could have gone and so it is difficult to say which would have been the ‘best’ direction for the plot to travel in. Ultimately we went so far away from the original books that it became quite a different story. I: And a little more about «The Strain», if you don’t mind. It has been a long time dispute of the fans of the series, and it seems that only you can help with this. Would you be so kind to tell if Eldritch and Coco’s feelings were sincere? Was it really love? Or those who claim that “Coco was just a golddigger who seduced the old man to reach his money” are right? As you definitely read the script and certainly discussed this topic with Lizzie Brochere or maybe with Guillermo del Toro himself – could you please answer this question and be so kind to help the fans resolve this dispute? J.H: In consideration of your questions over Coco’s relationship with Palmer I can only suggest that the ambiguity of it is what makes the story interesting. If all the answers were clear then perhaps it would leave no space for interpretation and in my opinion it is the actors’ role to present a full, layered character i.e. not to fall into the trap of being one dimensional. My overall interpretation is that Coco’s feelings are genuine but, as with all human nature, she is also driven by, and attracted to power/ success. As the saying goes Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely”.  Hopefully the dispute about Coco and Palmer can be laid to rest - for the most part anyway. J.H: Finally, I would like to thank you for your thoughtful questions and genuine interest in the work. Wishing you all the best and with kind regards. The end 😇

19. Warren is going back to jungle
Indeed, it wasn't many weeks before Danny was in such good shape that the doctor let him go. But Warren had to stay a few weeks longer before he too was allowed to leave, although he did not yet have a travel permit.
Those few months he spent with Danny, Cale, Terry, Alejandro and Bushika at a hotel in Manaus. During that time he also had to discuss the previous and this river trip with the local authorities on several occasions, as both involved strange twists and turns, to say the least.
Still, Warren took the situation calmly, telling only what he thought necessary and omitting any mention of the giant anaconda, as he was unlikely to be believed by the authorities any more than the rest of the party.
But otherwise he told his side of the story, which was consistent with the other accounts, so the authorities were content to write it down, and since both the poachers and Carl seemed to have disappeared from the scene, they would probably never be caught.
The local police investigating the case did, however, formally put out an APB for Sanders, as well as Carl, although they thought they would never be caught. Warren and the rest of the party knew why, though they didn't know where Carl had gone. Danny guessed, though, that the man had probably fled the country and then gone where, hardly anyone would know.
They hoped with all their hearts that that miserable coward Carl had had enough of the treasure and would never return to the Shirishama lands. But since the treasure was certainly still tempting, Warren knew that he and a few of the tribesmen would have to be ready, so that even if Carl turned up again, he would never get out alive.
Eventually those months had passed and after a little farewell party, the little expedition boarded the riverboat again and headed for a particular spot on the riverbank where they would leave Warren.
Bushika, for her part, had decided to go with Alejandro, Danny, Terri and Cale, which Warren accepted, although he knew he would miss his daughter terribly. But it was made easier by the fact that he knew his daughter would be safe with Terri and Cale.
During the months they'd spent in Manaus, Warren and Cale had helped Bushika obtain identification and a passport so she could travel with the others. Otherwise, she could run into problems with the customs authorities, because from what he heard from others, the customs systems had become much more rigorous since 1997.
But for now, they were enjoying the last few moments they had before Warren would get off the riverboat.
Sure, Warren would also miss the various comforts he had enjoyed for a while again, but that was still small compared to being able to go back to his wife.
Some days had passed before the riverboat finally arrived at a very familiar bend in the river and landed. The whole party stepped ashore and said one last goodbye to Warren, who looked at them with emotion. He would miss his friends, but he knew they would be fine and might even visit again sometime.
"Take care," Danny said and hugged Warren.
"That was the idea," Warren replied and hugged back. Two such different men and yet they had become good friends. Each looked at the other with a smile until they parted, as Danny and the rest of the party climbed back onto the deck of the riverboat. They had decided to spend the night on the riverboat and would not return until morning.
Bushika and Danny looked for a long time at the shore, where Warren had remained standing for a moment. They watched as the man turned and began to walk into the jungle. But then he stopped and turned to look at the riverbed and the party standing on its deck, waving his hand and smiling.
Danny had noticed something big moving near Warren. Something snake-like, but it quickly disappeared into the vegetation and when Danny turned to look at Warren, he too had disappeared from sight.
There was only the still-flowing river, the jungle with its vegetation sprawling and reaching towards the water's surface, and the jungle dwellers making a loud noise, but Warren seemed to have disappeared without a trace. But at least they now knew that Warren would be alive, safe with this tribe, and where they could find him if they needed to.
Early the next morning, they hauled the riverboat from the riverbank, turned it around and headed back towards the manaus. Before doing so, they discovered that someone had visited the riverboat during the night and left a small gift on deck. It was a roughly made bag full of jewellery and other objects made of gold and precious stones, which must have come from the ruins of the temple.
"Wow," Danny breathed, seeing the contents of the bag, "at least we didn't have to leave here empty-handed," he chuckled, looking down at the riverbank. For a moment he could see a slender figure leaning on a walking stick, but that figure quickly disappeared from view, "thanks Warren," he smiled and waved his hand in the direction of the shore, hoping that if Warren was still there he would notice the greeting.
"No, indeed," said Alejandro, smiling broadly at Bushika, who was leaning against him.
"Maybe we can even appease the museum director, although it's not much of a haul," Cale remarked, pleased with the little gift and determined that if Carl ever showed up at the museum again, he certainly wouldn't get a piece of this little treasure.
The very contented party let the riverboat glide slowly on, the rising sun colouring the landscape with its magnificent hues. They would each have a whole new adventure ahead of them.
The End

"Oh, all right," the guard said, nodding his head. He still didn't quite believe everything the young man said, but since there was no evidence of anything else, this had to be the right explanation. Well, let the local police worry about that, he thought.
Now that the situation was calm, the guards could let the doctor and nurses do their job. They themselves moved outside the room to wait for the police, to whom they could tell what they knew, which wasn't very much.
As they were walking towards the door, one of the guards noticed something dark green and thin and leafy on the floor. At first he thought it was the leaf of a plant, but when he bent down to pick it up, he saw that it was the scale of a reptile.
Frowning, he looked at it and wondered how any kind of reptile could ever have got into the hospital, let alone one this big. For he could see from the size of the scale he found that it was not a small reptile.
But perhaps it had fallen off the clothes of the escaped poacher, he finally thought, and absentmindedly stuffed the scale into his pocket.
Fortunately for Danny, the bullet that had pierced his shoulder had gone through cleanly and hadn't hit any vital parts or even ricocheted off anything. The bullet itself was later found stuck in the wall. They had all been lucky that it hadn't hit anyone else in the room on its way.
The doctor ordered Warren's leg to be re-examined, as there was great concern that the leg had been re-injured in the fight. But to the relief of Warren, the doctor and others, the leg had fortunately not suffered much damage. The cast had to be replaced, though, as it was no longer in such good condition.
During that time, Bushika and Alejandro gave their own testimonies to the investigating police officers about what had happened, but they did not mention a word about the giant snake. Firstly, it would not have been believed and secondly, it would probably raise, either further questions or other suspicions, and they did not need them at that moment.
Later, the police also went to talk to Danny and Warren. Meanwhile, Alejandro and Bushika told Terri and Steven what had happened. They were, of course, relieved that no one was hurt worse.
A few days later Alejandro, Bushika, Terri and Steven returned to see Warren again, and Danny, who was now sharing a room with Warren. Although Danny would certainly be able to leave earlier, as he was not nearly as badly off as Warren.

Part 18. Everything is okay
Now that things had calmed down, Bushika helped Warren back to his hospital bed. The man's face was pale and you could see that his leg was very sore. The recent activity had not done it any good.
Bushika had hardly done this when there was a rush of footsteps in the corridor and a moment later the door was pushed open. In rushed two hospital guards, behind whom the ward doctor and a couple of nurses were marveling at the situation.
Those in the room were amazed at the guards' quick appearance, but then guessed that they must have made a lot of noise in the middle of the fight and that someone else had probably called for help.
"Well, what happened? We were informed there was a fight going on," one of the guards finally said, looking around the room in mild confusion.
Something had clearly happened, but what, he couldn't quite figure out either. At least there had been a shooting, as the gun his colleague had found on the other side of the hospital bed, where it had slipped into the chaos.
Alejandro glanced at Warren, then at Danny, as if wondering what was best to say about what had happened. He realised, too, that perhaps it was best not to mention the giant snake, for who would believe it anyway. They were unlikely to, and in the worst case, might carry each of them off to a padded booth in a straitjacket. And that idea didn't appeal to Alejandro any more than it did to anyone else in the room.
"Well, um, a man, probably a poacher, barged into the room and started to rampage, but he escaped before you could get here," Alejandro finally explained.
"Why on earth did he come here?" the guard with the gun raised asked with furrowed brows. There was something rotten in the young man's story.
"We bumped into him on the river trip, and he wasn't too happy about us messing up his illegal activities," Westridge said, grimacing in pain.
"Poacher," the guard said slowly, then nodded his head. It seemed plausible, because some poachers could be quite vindictive if you interfered with their illegal business.
"Yes," Alejandro assured himself, and decided to stick with that explanation, though he wondered what would happen if they decided to watch the security camera footage, "oh and I happened to hear his name, it was Sanders I think. I thought the police might be interested in his shady business," he then added.

His fingers had only just touched the weapon before the giant anaconda wrapped itself around him.
Sanders was unable to scream as the snake's grip squeezed all the air out of his lungs, compressing his chest with crushing force.
Westridge gasped in horror and closed his eyes, not wanting to see what was happening. His own experience of horror on the subject was enough, and even that had been too much. He could not close his ears, but he tried not to listen to the sounds the snake and Sanders were making. Quiet, strangling noises. The choked chorus and the soft rustle of the snake's smooth, scaly skin. Finally, a final groan and it was quiet.
A muffled gasp escaped Alejandro and Bushika sobbed softly against him, trying not to watch as the snake swallowed Sanders' limp body whole.
Satisfied and satiated, the anaconda finally settled into its normal position and crept out of the room, which was now almost deathly quiet. All of them, except the unconscious Danny, were shocked by what had happened and barely dared to move.
Eventually Alejandro began to recover and he hastened to press the alarm button, after which he lowered himself down to look at Danny, who began to stir and moan, as the gunshot wound hurt quite a bit.
"Hey, stay down, help is on the way," Alejandro said, figuring it wasn't a good idea to let Danny move and possibly aggravate the injury he'd received.
"Danny, I think I owe you my life," Warren replied as he awkwardly climbed up off the floor.
"No, you don’t owe anything. We're more like even," Danny replied in a quieter voice than normal.
"Yes, I am, because without you, that filth would have done God knows what terrible things to my daughter," Warren replied.
"All right, all right. I'm not in the mood to argue with you right now," Danny laughed and looked at his friend with a smile.
Bushika glanced at Alejandro and they both rolled their heads and smiled.

For a moment it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop to the floor, then the very familiar click of the gun as the trigger was squeezed. Danny acted, he pushed Westridge aside so that he crashed into the hospital bed and fell to the floor, howling in pain as the plastered leg ripped in hellish agony as it hit the floor.
After a moment, the pain began to ease a little and he bent down to look at Danny, who lay motionless on the floor, a red puddle spreading beneath him, as well as on his shoulder.
"Danny," Westridge said quietly, then glanced quickly at Sanders, who was striding toward Alejandro and Bushika.
Alejandro pulled her behind him, protecting her from Sanders. Before Sanders could touch her, someone hit him and he crumpled against the empty bed and slid off it onto the floor.
"I said no! I won't let you touch her!" came an angry roar and Westridge was partially toppled over Sanders.
"Dad!", Bushika cried, afraid that Sanders would hurt dad or something worse.
But luckily for him, the pistol had fallen out of Sanders' hands and slid somewhere out of reach. Sanders tried to push Westridge off top of him, but he fought back as best he could under the circumstances.
Suddenly Alejandro screamed and pointed somewhere past Westridge and Sanders. Bushika turned to look in the same direction. The door Sanders had firmly shut was open and something large and dark was creeping into the room. Frightened, Bushika pressed herself firmly against Alejandro and they backed away as far as they could.
Westridge and Sanders also watched the reptile, which seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. The giant Anaconda crept towards Alejandro and Bushika, but stopped for a moment and turned his gaze towards Westridge. For a moment the two stared at each other and finally Westridge shook his head in denial, at which point the giant reptile glanced once more at Alejandro and Bushika, until it began to crawl slowly towards Westridge and Sanders.
Sanders howled in terror and half pushed, half knocked Westridge off top him, sending him flying backwards onto the floor. The plastered leg clattered against the floor, causing Westridge to yelp in pain and utter a bunch of curse words.
Despite the pain, he struggled to his feet and saw the giant snake approaching Sanders, who made a desperate lunge for his weapon, which was sliding away.

It took him a moment or two before he got a response. Alejandro told the person who answered the call that they needed medical help. Finally, he gave their location as best he could and the details of his walkie-talkie so that they could locate them with it, if at all possible, as he could not say the exact coordinates of the temple's location.
Eventually the person who answered him said that help was on the way and that they would just have to wait until it arrived. He promised to do so and hung up, keeping the walkie-talkie on standby in case something came.
He then looked around at what was on the platform and noticed an ornate structure that looked like it might have been used in ancient times for lighting purposes.
He examined the ancient torch site, wondering what he should do. With the tools at his disposal, a signal flare would not be very visible, but perhaps enough. On the other hand, he was concerned about the risk that Sanders and Carl, who were chasing them, would also see the flare.
In the end, he decided that he had to take the risk or Bushika would lose her father. So he dug out of his pocket some old tattered paper towels and other scraps of paper he had stashed away and placed them, along with the pieces of dry linen he had now cut, on a bowl to make a torch and set them on fire.
He had succeeded, but as he had also guessed, the fire was not very visible, but perhaps enough. Alejandro hoped with all his heart that they would get help before the men who where chasing them would spotted them.
Eventually Alejandro retreated back to Bushika and Westridge. He furrowed his brows as he saw that Westridge's shoulder wound was still bleeding. He knew something had to be done, so after a moment's thought he took the top of his long-sleeved shirt and tore it into suitable strips, wrapping the wounded shoulder with it as best he could to cover the wound and stem the bleeding a little.
They then stood still, checking on Westridge's condition from here, glancing down from time to time into the vegetated clearing, where so far there was no sign of movement.
The sun was already setting when a familiar voice came from somewhere in the distance. A helicopter, he thought. Bushika, on the other hand, looked a little suspiciously in the direction of the sound, as she had last heard it when she was a small child, when they had been forced to flee the village when members of a drug cartel had apparently decided to attack.
"Take it easy, they're good guys this time," Alejandro reassured Bushika, hoping he was right.

Part 13, Helicopter
So they headed back to the square, careful not to run into Sanders. Because they knew that he'd shoot first and ask questions later.
They reached the temple clearing without encountering anyone, and there was no one there except Westridge, who lay motionless where he had been left. There was a red puddle under one shoulder.
"Dad," Bushika exclaimed, and ran to Westridge. He didn't react to anything, but Alejandro realised that the man had to be taken to hospital immediately or he would indeed die.
He quickly examined the wound and found that it wasn't too bad, but he was worried about the loss of blood and the fact that the man hadn't been in good shape to begin with.
"Bushika, your father will be fine, but we need to get him to hospital quickly, that bullet hole worries me," Alejandro explained calmly, frantically wondering what to do. He looked around, trying to think of anything that would help.
Finally, he decided to look through the things the men had left behind to see if there was anything he could call for help with, because that was what they needed right now. After some digging, he straightened up and smiled with satisfaction. He had found a mobile phone in Sanders' rucksack, and a walkie-talkie.
"You take these and I'll carry your father. Let's go to the highest point of the temple," Alejandro said, handing the walkie-talkie and cell phone to Bushika.
Bushika looked at the young man in confusion, but took the equipment. Maybe he knew what he was doing, she reasoned. Although, on the other hand, she was scared to be in such a visible place, where men might easily spot them.
On the way up, Alejandro explained his plan in more detail to Bushika. The journey was not easy as the stairs were steep and in poor condition, and in places overgrown with vegetation. And it was not helped by Alejandro's carrying capacity. He was a fit and strong young man, in his prime, but even he had his limits. Particularly on stairs with such steep inclines. Finally, they reached the top, where a breathtaking view opened up, which they both lingered over for a moment, until Alejandro finally found the right place to gently lower Westridge.
When this was done Alejandro took the equipment from Bushika. He checked the cell phone first, but apparently Sanders had been smarter than the others and had put proper protections on his cell phone so it wouldn't call anything. Well, neither would he, Alejandro decided, and slammed the phone down on the platform. There was a clatter and a crash as the phone fell and shattered as it hit the temple's large stone structures. That cell phone would be of no further use.
Alejandro then picked up a walkie-talkie, which had no shielding on it, so he could use it. It took him a while before he found the right frequency and started sending out a distress call.

Bushika stopped swinging her fists and raised her eyes to the young man's tanned face, framed by curly red hair.
"Alejandro," she sighed in relief and leaned against the young man.
Alejandro was confused, not knowing what to do, except to comfort the girl, who was clearly upset.
"What happened?", Alejandro asked, looking at Bushika with concern.
"Sanders...", Bushika managed to say and tried to calm down a bit, but didn't quite manage it.
"The pig didn't do anything to you, did he?", Alejandro asked worriedly, stroking the girl's smooth hair.
"No, but Dad... he... he hurt dad", Bushika said and told him what had happened.
Alejandro didn't really understand, because Bushika was now speaking English and the tribal language at the same time. The latter of which Alejandro did not even understand. The girl was probably so upset that she forgot which language she was supposed to speak.
"Now, calm down and start again. I didn't really understand when you were speaking two languages at once," Alejandro said and pulled her into his arms.
It took a moment or two for Bushika to calm down and explain what was happening.
"Let's go and see if everything is okay. We can't leave your father there either," Alejandro said, although on the other hand he was afraid to run into both the men and the snake.
"That man, Sanders, was chasing me," Bushika said and looked around, afraid that the man would jump out of nowhere.
"Then we'll be careful," Alejandro said, not wanting to bump into the man himself, who, by all accounts, was crazed with rage.
