I think one of the things I really like about the differences between Kratos and his kids is that this was probably what Kratos wanted. Like he's always realized that parts of his upbringing and behavior weren't good for Atreus or Calliope to learn so he just didn't teach them these things. I do think Kratos should've been more present for Calliope and Atreus but the big reason I think he wasn't is because he knew that his wives were better suited to teach them how to live normal lives and he didn't want to mess that up by accidentally instilling toxicity into them.

I can definitely see that! Though, I think there’s a difference in Atreus and Calliope’s situations; Greek era Kratos doesn’t strike me as very self-aware, and the only reason he was distant from Calliope is that he had to physically go to war. In all other instances (not including her murder, of course), he was always close to Calliope, and considerably gentle and affectionate with her. The only negative interaction I found was between him and Lysandra in GoW 1 when they were arguing about his warlust.

On the other hand, Norse era Kratos decided to distance himself from Atreus precisely because of his negative traits, thinking that Atreus would be better off without him present. I also subscribe to the idea that Kratos thought himself unworthy / was afraid of loving another child and receiving that child’s love in return. He didn’t want to suffer the heartbreak of Calliope’s fate again, y’know?

Then again, I do agree that he probably felt, deep down, that his wives were far better suited to raising the children than he was XDD
