“You don’t remember?” he asks, all innocence. On his crooked finger, the ring glints in the sun.

One of Jemma’s eyes emerges from the sheets. “No.” Her tone makes it clear she’s protesting her intact memories, not indicating her lack of them.

“Oh, yes. You are now Mrs. Grant Ward.”

She pops up, leaving the blankets to pool around her knees. “That’s Dr. Mrs. Grant Ward,” she snaps. Then, either because she’s realized what she just said or she’s noticed his attention on her very naked chest, she groans and flops back down.

I do, occasionally! This is set in a season 1 scenario in which Ward and Jemma are conveniently sleeping in some motel while waiting to rendez-vouz with the rest of the team. Enjoy!

36. “This is embarrassing but I had a bad dream and back home when this happens I normally just crawl into bed with my mom or sister but since they’re not here anymore can I sleep with you?” 

Jemma’s cheeks are burning so much that it’s a wonderthey aren’t glowing in the dark. She sits on the edge of the bed, staring atthe sleeping figure a few feet away from her – in the closest bed to the doorand window, because Ward insisted – and trying to gather enough courage tospeak up.

As it turns out, she doesn’t need to: her staring doesthe job all on its own, and soon enough Ward is turning towards her,undoubtedly already awake and alert, judging by his hand immediately reachingfor his gun under the pillow.

(Though she’s still shaken and on the verge of tears,that does offer a bit of a consolation.)

“Simmons?” he calls out, a little confused, probablynoticing that there is nothing amiss and no one is shooting at them.

(Not anymore, at least. The experience is terrifyingenough that every time Jemma is almost willing to admit to Fitz that maybegetting on a field team was not the best idea she ever had.)

“I’m sorry, I —” She swallows, trying to gather thewill to finish what she started. She knows that he can be kind and helpful, ifa little awkward, she remembers how he soothed her after her disastrous firstexperience with skydiving, maybe he will help — her cheeks burn up somemore. “This is embarrassing —”

“What is it?” he prompts, up on his elbow, his handslowly emerging from under the pillow. She’s glad she can’t make out his face.

“I, well, I’ve just had a rude awakening —” Which onlymeans that she was terrified by a nightmare, like a little girl. “And Idon’t think I can drift back to sleep on my own, and obviously I would normallygo to Skye for this, but —”

“Simmons,” he interrupts, curtly, maybe sounding alittle annoyed too.

She swallows, taking a small breath. “…Yes?”

“Just get in here, alright?”

Random AoS Thoughts: 1x09 “Repairs”

Horror movies + The Bus + Bus pranks = hilarity and loads of fun.

1.  May just casually saunters out of the hotel room, not even caring about Ward and his staggered timelines. Like, “my sleeping with you won’t affect my job so who cares who knows” kind of thing. Totally a May thing and a wonderful character… strengthener. (That’s not the word I want, but my brain is fried. Don’t @ me.)

2. Coulson debriefing Daisy all by her lonesome and then talking about how to approach a powered human and how to handle it when Daisy will have to go through it. Not that Daisy’s transition went really well, but…

3. “This is a delicate situation and you’re bringing along ‘warm’ and ‘fuzzy’?” Meaning Ward, and May if truth were known. But, let’s be real, he’s doing it to protect Daisy. You know he is. He doesn’t want her to get hurt.

4. “You’re late.” Cue Ward looking like a hurt puppy which is totally weird on him, just saying.

5. Daisy jumping into action like a great little SHIELD agent. I love her so much.

6. “Is this real?” Yes, but also no. Not quite like that.

7. “I didn’t go to your SHIELD Hogwarts.” Ha. I mean, accurate, but ha.

8. Okay, full disclaimer: God does not punish anyone. Let that be known. He is a God of love. Okay, moving on.

9. I NEVER SAW THAT DUDE BEFORE!! Whut?

10. Ward stops cracking pepper over the “she needs to get laid” comment. That’s the greatest thing ever.

11. I shipped so many different iterations of Ward and other people, but I do think MayWard was the best for multiple different reasons.

12. I don’t remember this episode at all. Is that weird? That’s totally weird, right?

13. Daisy is such an empathetic character. It’s so beautiful. She’s strong in her empathy and it isn’t a weakness. It’s such a gift.

14. This horror movie vibe fits this show in a way I can’t explain. I think I vaguely remember thinking this was the best episode of the season so far. Which is weird because I can’t remember it.

15. Daisy realizing Coulson was with May in Bahrain and then hearing the story from Coulson’s lips is a heart wrenching moment.

16. “Did she lose anyone in there?” “Herself.” This story is such a parallel with what Coulson is going through right now. I never realized it, but in hindsight, it’s great.

17. Coulson and his love of old stuff. And the way he holds his hands under his arms. So adorable. I love him.

18. “Let the girl go.” May. Coulson. My baby team. I can’t with these guys.

19. Daisy’s little look at Coulson as he leans up against that holotable with the watch. Then, the talk about her talents and the Index and his compliment. I’m just #cousy4lyfe

20. The scrabble game and Fitz being the victim of a prank set up by May. Priceless.

Guys, it’s hard to believe, but I’ve finished this. The Scion and the Scientist has finally come to a close, and with an ending I hope you’ll find satisfying. Here you go! Sorry I’m late

Jemma wakes up at five in the morning, for nodiscernible reason, which makes it highly irritating, considering that she’llhave to get up in a couple of hours anyway and she’s too tired not to have a fullnight of sleep.

She sighs, rolling on her stomach and sliding her armsunder the pillow, stretching her legs in the empty half of the bed.

Then her sleepy brain connects the dots: it’s five inthe morning and there’s nobody else in her bed, which means that Grant didn’tcome home when he was supposed to, which means that there’s a distinctpossibility that something might have gone wrong.

Crap.

She quickly scrambles for her phone, hoping to find amessage from Grant, alerting her that the assignment got longer at the lastminute and he’ll back in a couple of days, or at most a missed call from anunknown number that surely belongs to his CO, trying to alert her that herhusband is dead or hospitalized – she would have heard the ringtone, though,right? She isn’t that much of an heavy sleeper –, but when her eyes adjust tothe bright light she finds that there is nothing. Neither a call nor a text.

Crap, crap, crap.

She needs to stay calm. She is used to life as thewife of a specialist, she knows how it goes, she’s fully aware that sometimesthere are setbacks, that things change mid-mission and adjustments have to bemade. She also knows that he doesn’t always have his phone at hand, or thechance to take a minute to text her.

But he tries.

If he’s late, he texts her. Even only a simple ‘Late’with no explanation, just so she doesn’t worry until he can properly explain. Isn’tit more likely that if she didn’t hear a single word from him he’s injured? Or dead?

“Damn him,” she mutters, burying her face in her handsand trying to breathe through the lump in her throat and the knot in herstomach.

She needs to calm down, distract herself, possibly getsome more rest – sleep might be too unlikely, but she should at least lie down,relax a bit, try not to get to work already destroyed inside –, and soon enoughshe’ll hear from him. She always does.
