You know, I was rereading the Sub Rosa Season 2 finally and I kept thinking about how Clarke and La Lune fit the "I am the mastermind, he's my accomplice" trend PERFECTLY.
Like the whole concept of Wanheda and Wanlida is just so perfect for the trend.
Specifically it was the part where Clarke tells La Lune to kill Dante. IT'S LITERALLY IT.
nodding my head emphatically bc Y E S
sometimes i just create edits in my head for sub rosa bc i am not talented enough to make actual ones lmao. just know i will be mentally editing this too lmaooo

‘ I’m protecting the innocent. If I step on a few toes in the meanwhile, so be it. ‘ -mercenary!styxx to assassin!o / @myhiraeth
for hours it feels as if they’ve gone around and around in circles. meeting in the only place octavia knows to be safe when the two of them come together because her organization wouldn’t take too kindly to a mercenary like styxx. to them, he’d simply be a complication. the abandoned library on the outskirts of the city centre serves well for her but it causes their voices to echo throughout as they argue. “ they’re my toes you’re stepping on! and it’s going to end with me dead! is that really what you want?! ” octavia snapped back, fingers curling and uncurling at her sides.
after all this time, she can’t understand why he doesn’t seem to comprehend that. they’re not the same. not even close. she doesn’t get to pick her targets or ask for certain ones. she’s assigned a job. one that she must follow through or risk being burned. & if she’s burned? well. she’s good at what she does but even octavia doubts her ability to survive against the entire fleet of assassins from wanlida. “ styxx, i am telling you that you’re wrong about this one, i need to do this and i need you to get out of my way so that i can. ”
#who's actually wrong? dunno#probably o's organization. they tend to do really shady shit but play her pain and convince her that they're in the right#myhiraeth#pv. sometimes all you have are your lies. assassin & mercenary#look it even got a verse name

First, beware of the voltage drop, which happens when an idea that works well on a small scale loses its profitability as it expands. An infamous example of this concept is Theranos, the health-tech company led by Elizabeth Holmes, which raised over $700 million from investors. Theranos was valued at $9 billion due to its supposedly revolutionary portable blood-testing technology that didn’t even exist. Holmes resorted to faking results using other companies' machines to save face. Eventually, her inability to scale this nonexistent technology was exposed and her company’s downfall became one of history's most notorious tales of business collapse.
Second, you need to know your audience well. Success in scaling depends on knowing what your target audience needs. Kmart's Blue Light Special sales gimmick exemplifies the perils of misunderstanding the audience. The initiative floundered when Kmart’s corporate team standardized discounted items without considering their regional customers’ preferences.
Third, avoid the cost trap in scaling. Ideally, you should achieve economies of scale using fixed costs better as you scale. The principle means achieving greater efficiency and cost reduction as the size of the operation increases. An idea that becomes more expensive as it grows is a major red flag. So it’s important to see if your budget constraints can hamper replicating your early successes on a larger scale. Don’t be afraid to ask: Will scaling compromise any nonnegotiables?
To recap, successful scaling is a delicate balancing act. Take time to identify the right parts of your business to amplify. By taking underperforming products out of the equation, understanding your audience better, and keeping costs under control along the way, it’s easier to play the scaling game.
Most of the time, you do the work and get rewarded. What if you got the reward first and had to work to keep it? That's the clawback approach. It plays on your instinct to keep what you have.
Wanlida Group, a Chinese electronics manufacturer, used this clawback strategy brilliantly. The company gave its employees an upfront bonus that was theirs to keep as long as they met their weekly production goal. And guess what? This strategy worked like a charm, boosting productivity by over 1 percent. The great thing about the clawback approach? It works across cultures and situations and is super scalable. Even small bonuses can change behavior and productivity when seen as something to lose.
But there are some pitfalls to watch out for. First, people with a lot of risk experiences are more relaxed about potential losses. And second, ethical considerations are huge. You can't set unrealistic targets and stress your team out; you've got to pay out the bonuses when your people hit their targets
Thanks to the marginal revolution in the late nineteenth century, we’re now more aware than ever of the value we get from things without going too deep into the weeds. It's why gold costs more than food and diamonds are more expensive than water. It's about satisfaction or what economists call “utility.” When you're in the driver's seat of a business, you need to keep practicing marginal thinking. Collecting data isn't enough – you need to dig into it, to see what works, what doesn't, and where there might be room for improvement. Just like when you decided on that apple because you knew you'd feel better for it later.
Here's another example from List's own experience. One day, his son faced a decision between two baseball bats. He’d saved enough money for the top-of-the-line bat, but his father introduced him to opportunity cost. By choosing the cheaper bat, he’d still have enough money left to buy a new baseball glove. This simple lesson in weighing the trade-offs between options demonstrates the broader concept of opportunity cost in decision-making.
Of course, we’re the first to admit that recognizing when to quit can be challenging. After all, quitting involves acknowledging sunk costs and facing the uncertainty of what comes next. But it's crucial to remember that these sunk costs – in terms of time, money, or both – are in the past. They shouldn’t factor into your decisions about the future. Instead of obsessing over these points for reflection, focus more on what you can do now and in the future to maximize your resources.
In short, recognize when it's time to quit, and fearlessly embrace the opportunity to pivot toward something that could spell a better, more lasting outcome for you. While letting go of an exciting yet unprofitable idea is hard, its benefits far outweigh the emotional and practical costs. So evaluate your path regularly, consider your opportunity costs, and don't hesitate to change your direction if necessary.
You've discovered the secret ingredients to scaling successfully: trusting your instincts, planning and delivering valuable incentives, thinking marginally, letting go of bad ideas and practices, and building a scalable company culture.

back in the weeds, underneath the sun ---- it’s welcome after the blood and gore of the school, but between every tree, felix still searches for empties, unrelenting in his grip on his s-pole, expression scarred with something like a permanent grimace; but there’s an encroaching fatigue, too, settling into the lines and curves of his features. more often than could be deemed casually, he’s presses close to hope and iris both, as if assuring them that he’s still here (or, the other way around, if the way he exhales, blinking in rapid relief could be any indication.) it’s iris he’s near now, right hand on her shoulder, head on a swivel as he studies the surrounding woods; quiet, still, but the tension that radiates hotly between his ribs doesn’t ease.
the squeeze to her shoulder that eventually comes is subtle, though enough to alert her that it’s intentional; felix pairs it with a little hey, hesitating a step and allowing himself to fall behind their little group, guiding iris to do the same. he waits a beat for the distance to grow another inch or so -- earning a brief look from huck, but she seems to understand the unfolding events, and, in turn, so do the others -- before he’s leaning into her, casting a glance downward, the edges of his features softening... but only just.
“that gym looked like it was set up for a dance,” he begins, and wrapped within it is a silent chastisement for her leaving it when he’d asked her to do exactly the opposite. kicking at a rock in the path, felix continues, attempting to pose the question nonchalantly, but the arch of his brow is anything but: “you manage to... have some fun?” @wanlidas

@wanlidas sent: “you need to talk to somebody?”
Talking was foreign to her. She couldn’t remember the last time she spoke to anyone about the events she’d gone through; she hadn’t even spoken to Gale or Dewey about anything, the two people who would actually understand. Her name had been plastered in every newspaper across the country and elsewhere, a movie had been made about her life and the deaths of her closest friends — it wasn’t easy living this life. It was a continuous cycle, always an attempt to destroy whatever normalcy Sidney had built for herself. Another sicko would rise from the cracks and succeed for a short amount of time, killing whoever had planted their feet next to the brunette, but always end up in a gave buried six feet deep. Anymore, it seemed wanting normalcy was a fantasy she’d never be able to obtain.
Even though those events happened years ago, she remembers them as if they just happened yesterday. They replay through her head numerous times a day, as if they’re a dark rain cloud hovering above her head, trailing her wherever she went. It doesn’t help half the time whenever she flips through the television channels at night, she sees a televised rerun of the Stab movie.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start, honestly.” It’s why she wrote a book in the first place; it was the only outlet she had to discuss the events that’d happened to her. But even then, it wasn’t enough — it would never be enough. “I thought writing a book would help with that type of thing, you know?”

‘ you don’t look fine. ’ [@wanlidas \ rosita.]
“i’ll take your word for it.” he’s yet to actually look in a mirror, but he can feel the knotting around his eye, split lip, and, of course, the stitches. propping himself up on an elbow, adrian flashes a smile, sincerity held in the curl of his lip. “looks worse than it is,” he assures her with a dismissive wave of his fingers, and it feels true enough; he feels stronger now than this morning, memories resurfacing as the throbbing in his head lessens, still present, no doubt, but - quieter. “what took you so long to come around? i am offended, just so you know.”

@wanlidas sent: we’re not so different after all.
the admission feels generous as gina's gaze passes over niylah's shop once more, warm with admiration. it feels distinctly cozier than arkadia, warmer and more intimate than her new home on earth would allow - deep browns and other warm tones where the ark was a sea of grey, tucked nicely and welcomely into the forest where the ark had disrupted an ecosystem already in place. at first gina thinks niylah is referring to the bag in her hands she'd brought to trade, commenting on the ease with which she adopts a familiar ritual, but it occurs to her as she sits the bag down that it goes deeper than that - ark and earth born, trikru and..skaikru, she thinks they call them. gina can see here that's true, just as she can when she sees lincoln, who feels more her people than many of the arkers struggling to accept her, unwilling to pardon her from her father's crimes.
how many of their people shun lincoln is something she can understand; it brings a fierceness out in her, a stubborn protectiveness that lincoln might laugh off were he not so kind, given the vast differences in their size. she's felt the chill in the air whenever someone mentions factory station, the hostility directed her way as if she'd launched the ship herself. as she thinks of how her people feel toward grounders, would likely feel toward niylah, that empathy extends to her. her own experiences have been limited, constrained to what bellamy and the others tell her about the people who were already inhabiting the ground when they landed and the war that followed, the severing of their alliance. she has no right to question their amnosity, having not suffered at the hands of grounders as they have, but she does not share it.
she's warmed by niylah's words, quick to answer, "i can see that," with a smile friendly and sincere. she continues to look around, curiosity getting the best of her. the ark never had anything close to this, and gina can't help but instantly adore it, mind buzzing with observation. she wonders how many new people niylah must meet - a month, a week, even a day. how many stories she must have to share. it was one of her favorite parts of working in distribution - getting to know people from other stations on the ark, gathering stories and history. "thank you." for the trade, for sharing with her. she can't resist asking, "how long have you been set up here? what you have here...it's incredible."

rose isn’t sure she can look at her. suddenly the life she and lissa have been living seems almost shameful, and she doesn’t know what to do with the building lump in her throat, nor the desire to curl into a ball very small and feel someone’s arms wrapping around her and smoothing down her hair. she had a dream once like that. the edges are all a bit blurry now, but she can distantly remember a red curl in the haze - a natural kind of red, auburn, not the kind you get from dye. she can’t really find details in the blur, but she can recall the gist: she was sick, and her mother was taking care of her.
rose thinks now it must have come from something she’s seen in real life - a movie, maybe, or some interaction between lissa and her mom, because it’s nothing she’s experienced herself, and certainly not with her own mother.
there’s a slight bitterness to the thought that rose clings to, one that allows her the delusion that there isn’t something scared and desperate inside her begging for janine, for someone to come in and tell her what to do, or just hold her. it always comes back to that, doesn’t it? maybe rose doesn’t want anything more than she wants to be held except for the consuming, inescapable, inevitable need she has to keep lissa safe. it doesn’t seem like a sacrifice, burying the first for the latter - it doesn’t even feel like a choice. not in a sad, tortured kind of way, just the way it is. the shame that want brings does err on the side of torture, though, and so rose starts in on the burying, swallowing that little part of her that looks at niylah and wants to trust.
she can’t trust. she has to keep lissa safe. it’s why they’ve been moving from place to place, relying on lissa’s compulsion for an invisible footprint even though lissa’s conscience is tied up in knots over it, which is more than rose can say for hers, which is too focused on survival to feel much guilt outside of the sometimes striking guilt she feels about her lack of guilt.
“no, uh, it’s okay- we’ll be okay. we don’t want to, uh, impose.” she wants the kindness in niylah’s eyes so much she instantly distrusts it, and it shows in the flightiness of her eyes, the arm that wraps around her torso and rubs her opposite forearm, the slight rocking back she does on her feet.

her laughter fills the room along with the music flowing from the piano. her gaze leaves gabriel and focuses again on jordan as he twirls her back into his arms. fingers gripping his hands and a smile big enough to make her cheeks hurt. she doesn’t remember herself ever laughing this genuinely save for when she was a little kid. there were happy moments in skyring with dev and gabriel, echo and orlando but the underlying worry about her mother never let her be truly happy. but jordan made her feel as carefree as when she was a child. they were messing around as friends do, both having a kind of fun that was stolen from their childhood.
then it suddenly hits her that her mother is dead and it’s her own fault for that. bellamy just died too, for real this time, and both octavia and echo are somewhere in this the building mourning for him. there’s nothing to be celebrated. nothing ot be happy for. guilt overcomes her and her smile falls in an instant, pushing jordan away. ‘ um . . . ’ he doesn’t deserve her to ruin his night but emotions overwhelm her. hope has to step away from the room. from the alcohol, the music, the dancing, the joy . . . she hopes jordan understands yet she still feels bad. ‘ i’m - i’m sorry. ’ hope stammers and with that she flees the room, still hoping jordan doesn’t take it personally.

but heights ? heights was the one thing that could bring her to her knees in a matter of SECONDS.
a few deep breaths. a squeeze of her hands into small fists. a forceful nudge for her mind to focus on anything BUT the fear trying to bring her down. you can do this. just keep moving. it was enough to nudge herself forward a small step or two. her eyes were tugged open again to avoid making the wrong move. the fear was still THERE but lessened for now. “ shit. do you . . . do you think we could head down to lower ground ? i don’t think there’s much up here for us. ”
