IPL Auction: RCB Director Of Cricket Mo Bobat Keen To Look For Overseas Fast-bowlers
Cricket Mo Bobat: Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), stated that the side will be keen to rope in overseas fast-bowlers at the upcoming IPL Auction, happening in Dubai on Tuesday. Before the auction, RCB got Australia all-rounder Cameron Green in a trade from Mumbai Indians. They enter the auction with a purse of INR 23.25 crores and have to fill six slots, three of which are overseas. Their eyes will be on getting overseas pacer and spinner after letting go of Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga, as well as in Indian bowling options after releasing Harshal Patel while Shahbaz Ahmed was traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad. “We have got a strong core of retaining players, and we have got a very powerful top order. Part of the decision-making that we had around our player release decisions was to try and strengthen the middle order and bringing Cameron Green was a fantastic move.” “Mohammad Siraj is a core part of what we do so supporting Siraj with some more bowling options including overseas bowling options is going to be a real priority for us moving forward.” “Then we have got a core of local spinners, which I think is quite strong. Some of them got some opportunities over the last year or two and they might play more leading roles moving forward,” said Bobat in a release issued by the franchise, where he spoke on the auction strategy during RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India held last month. Bobat, who will be leaving his role as England Men’s Performance Director to be full-time with RCB, expressed his commitment of creating a performance-based culture in the side. “I am committed to a long-term project here. We have a fantastic captain in Faf, and an excellent group of senior players with the experience of Virat, Maxi (Maxwell), and DK (Dinesh Karthik). So the ingredients are really strong.” “The next objective is to make sure we create the right performance, and culture where the players can really go and showcase what they are capable of, and go out and entertain the public. If we commit to our processes, play a brand of cricket that is aggressive, and have those moments where we're prepared to be brave it will get the fans going.” Bobat also delved into the skill, physical, and psychological aspects while zeroing on the best likely fits at the auction for RCB, who are yet to win an IPL title. “Naturally cricket tends to get attracted to and gravitate towards things like the control and the lateral movement of fast bowlers but what we should be doing is identifying players that have the pace and the balance.” “The reason I draw that distinction is you can teach someone to ball accurately, you can teach someone to develop craft and lateral movement but it is not that easy to teach pace or manufacture balance because you are talking about their release height and their physicality." "So understanding that distinction between which of those attributes we need to identify and which of those things we can teach over time is a really important distinction.” Read the full article

2nd ODI: Deepak Chahar scripts India's series-sealing win over Sri Lanka | Cricket News
Tumblr media
COLOMBO: Tail-ender Deepak Chahar brought India back from the dead with a steely 69 off 82 balls and script the visiting team's series-sealing victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Chasing 276, India were down and out at 193 for seven before Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 not out off 28) forged an unbeaten 84-run stand to seal a memorable win for the visitors who extended their record of not losing an ODI on Sri Lanka soil since 2012. Scorecard | As it happened A struggling Sri Lankan outfit badly needed a morale-boosting win but has only itself to blame for not finishing the job from a commanding position. Chahar, whose highest score before this game was 12, showed remarkable resolve and composure under pressure to take his team over the line with five balls to spare. He fittingly hit the winning boundary. India win and gain an unassailable 2-0 series lead 💪Deepak Chahar's heroics with the bat seal a three-wicket vict… https://t.co/5JpqzfXZhN — ICC (@ICC) 1626803820000 It was India's ninth consecutive bilateral series win over Sri Lanka. The third ODI will be played on Friday. It was expected to be another comfortable chase for India after Sri Lanka put an improved batting effort to post 275 for nine. However, questionable shot selection from the majority of the Indian batsmen gave their struggling opponents hope. Maiden international fifty for @deepak_chahar9! 👏 👏What a fine knock this has been! 👌 👌 #TeamIndia #SLvIND Foll… https://t.co/jwYfX84qez — BCCI (@BCCI) 1626801992000 Barring Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav (53), the Indian batsmen faltered. Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga troubled the Indians with his variations and ended up being the stand out bowler for his team. India felt the heat early on in the chase with Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan, who both blew away the opposition in the opener on Sunday, getting out to bad shots. Shaw failed to pick a wrong one off Hasaranga and got bowled while going for a cut. The opener once again showed sublime form during his short stay in the middle with three delightful boundaries before throwing it away. Great win by the boys. From a tough situation to pull it off was an amazing effort. Great to watch. Well done DC an… https://t.co/UmpuiFOuJy — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) 1626804322000 Kishan, with his feet nowhere close to the bat, tried to whack it through the off-side off pacer Kasun Rajitha only to play it on to the stumps, leaving India at 39 for two in four overs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan (29 off 38) was not at his fluent best for the second game in a row and was trapped in front by Hasaranga. Manish Pandey (37) was unfortunate to be run out off a deflection from the bowler's hand and Hardik Pandya hitting it straight to mid wicket with hard hands left India reeling at 116 for five. Suryakumar and Krunal stitched a 44-run stand before Chahar produced a stunner from nowhere for a remarkable win. Earlier, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal led India's decent effort with the ball. Pretty much like the series opener, most of the Sri Lankan batsmen got starts but failed to capitalise after the hosts opted to bat. Avishka Fernando (50 off 71) and Charith Asalanka (65 off 68) struck fine half-centuries but the home team wasn't disciplined enough to post an imposing total. Chamika Karunaratne (44 not out off 33) came up with another timely cameo to take the team past 270. Chahal (3/50) was the pick of the bowlers while pacers Deepak Chahar (2/53) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/54) too got wickets primarily due to profligacy of the home team batsmen. Openers Fernando (50 off 71) and Minod Bhanuka (36 off 42) took Sri Lanka to 59 for loss in the first 10 overs. The momentum shifted India's way drastically after Chahal removed Minod and Bhanuka Rajapaksa off successive balls in the 14th over. Sri Lanka, who are among the worst performing teams in the middle overs, struggled again in the crucial stage of the game. They took 97 balls to find their next boundary after the eight over. From 77 for no loss in the 14th over, Sri Lanka slipped to 134 for four in the 28th over. Asalanka and skipper Dasun Shanaka tried to resurrect the innings but their 38-run stand ended with the captain falling to a flatter one from Chahal. Chahar took his second wicket with a perfect knuckle ball that crashed through Wanindu Hasaranga's defences. Asalanka played some bold strokes alongside Karunaratne to give the innings some impetus towards the end. Asalanka got to his maiden fifty with a lofted boundary over extra cover off Kuldeep Yadav before sweeping the left-arm wrist spinner for another four in the same over. Bhuvneshar kept things tight but bowled at a slower pace than his usual. Source link Read the full article
