This yarn refuses to photograph well and it’s so sad. However I’ve been chugging on along with this hat and would not recommend this yarn. It’s so splitty, every third stitch splits or gets caught up on my needles. (Knitting brioche with it is Not helping but the only thing more painful than continuing is ripping back)
Tumblr media
I had a friend come into town so I've been too busy to knit but not too busy to buy yarn (granted said friend Insisted on going to see Miss Jo-ann Fabric which is where I bought all the yarn...)
One of my pick ups was this Big Twist Prism in Tigers Eye and I have. SO many emotions about this yarn. For one, the suggested gauge is Horrifying. The ball band says 13 stitches/18 Rows per 4 inches on size 9 needles but it's so loose using 9's I couldn't do it. I'm getting more like 22 stitches per 4 inches on size 6 needles with a really attractive fabric.
It's also incredibly slippery yarn to the point that the ball literally just. Falls apart. It slides off my metal needles so easily. I keep forgetting to try it on wooden needles, hopefully they'll be grippy enough.
But it's incredibly soft for a 100% acrylic? And it's not single ply roving yarn like so many of the multi coloured acrylics. Granted it's a hand wash which is evil (I'll make a swatch eventually to throw in my normal washing cycle as a test) but for a hat/scarf set that's not too much work. I rate it a solid worth trying on sale.

Okay, this is very loosely based on Renegade by Styx. TW slight rape mention, slight gore, uh let me know if there’s anything else. It’s pretty short, just around 1k. Enjoy!
The crowd was jeering and booing as Aleksandr was led to the gallows. He was blindfolded, his hands bound behind his back, but he was far from defenseless. He still had Thea waiting for him somewhere in the crowd, Alexis waiting with the getaway horses, and the hope that his life was not yet over. After all, he was innocent.
They called him ‘Kane, the Scourge of the South’, but even that was a misnomer. He was from the North. They spread rumors about how he raped every woman in a town before burning it to the ground. He preferred the company of men and was scared of fire.
Aleksander stumbled on a stone and was rewarded with a hit to the back of the legs that had him on the ground.
“On your feet, Kane,” the guard ordered. Aleksandr bit his tongue to stop from snapping back. Kane isn’t even his name, just the name he uses when he travels with Thea. They had decided that code names would make their adventures more exciting.
The guard hit him again so he stood up and kept walking. He felt something hit his shoulder and drip down his arm. Tomatoes, great. His capelet was made of white wolf fur, those stains are never coming out. The rest of the walk to the gallows was without incident, but as he was climbing the wooden steps to the platform, he heard something special from the crowd.
“Две минуты, Саша!” The call was hidden amid the jeers, but Aleksandr heard it loud and clear. It was almost time to go. But not yet.
Aleksandr was forced to the front of the platform before having the blindfold ripped off. He could finally see the crowd that had gathered around to watch him die. He could feel a dagger pressed to the small of his back, a warning not to try anything.
“Citizens of Weapia, today we rejoice!” A man called from behind him. Most likely some lord or baron, a rich snob who basks in the glory of others. Aleksandr had to stop himself from smiling. “Today the criminal known as Kane will die. Executioner, if you would read out the charges.” Aleksandr could hear the click of boots on wood.
“Of course, Lord Williams.” The executioner purred from behind him. Aleksandr’s stomach turned. He knew that voice and it wasn’t Thea’s. It was the voice of his captor, the bounty hunter known as Aleciel. He had raided Aleksandr’s camp on the one night where Thea was away.
“The Kingdom of Weapia hereby finds Kane, the Scourge of the South, guilty of seven counts of theft, 11 counts of arson, 20 counts of rape, and 53 counts of murder.” Aleciel declared. Aleksandr has to resist the urge to scoff. Bullshit. He was guilty of one count of arson and one count of murder. The man deserved it and the fire was an accident. Not only did they arrest him with no evidence, but they also made him the scapegoat for myriad other crimes rather than find the people accountable. “The sentence is death by hanging.” The crowd cheered, and Aleksandr heard Thea again.
“Саша, утка сейчас!” Finally. Aleksander grinned and dropped to his knees. A knife whizzed above his head and hit Aleciel. The crowd erupted into chaos and more than one person screamed. Aleksandr looked up just in time to see Thea run through the crowd and jump on the platform with ease.
“It’s Hate!” Someone screamed from the crowd. Lord Williams froze, giving Thea the perfect opportunity to cut the ropes binding Aleksandr’s hands. Aleksandr pulled the knife out of his boot before standing up. He looked around. Thea had hit Aleciel in the shoulder, and he was bleeding heavily.
“Guards, get them!” Aleciel yelled from the ground. Lord Williams ran and jumped off the back of the platform. Aleksandr couldn’t blame him. Thea wore an ivory half-mask with a single tear-shaped ruby just below the eye. She was wearing dark leather, furs, and dual wielding short blades. She looked like a demon and she was terrifying. Aleksandr moved to cover Thea’s back.
“He is waiting at the edge of town with the horses. Can you handle yourself from here?” Thea said under her breath.
“Yes. Godspeed, сестра.” Aleksandr said his first words since being captured.
“На три. Один два три!” They sprang into action. They fought their way through the guards, Thea moving quickly with her knives, Aleksandr using his bulk to his advantage. Once they got past the guards, the escape was easy.  The crowd scattered before them, terrified of Kane and Hate.
Alexis was waiting with the horses, his own face shadowed by a hood. They didn’t speak, just mounted the horses and took off. Once they were a good distance away and they couldn’t hear footsteps behind them, Alexis spoke up.
“Сасха, идиоте. Ви сте буквално најгори и ја вас толико мрзим.” Alexis ranted in his language, the one that Thea couldn’t understand. Aleksandr was sitting behind Alexis on their horse, so he started messing with Alexis’s hair.
“Love you too, Aljoša.” Thea smiled from her own horse.
“It’s good to see you two together again. And I’m glad that you’re not mad with Sasha, Alexis.” Alexis kicked Aleksandr in the leg. “You know, he only got captured to save you.”
“What?” Alexis said. Thea nodded, but Aleksandr spoke up.
“You were out answering nature’s call when they came. Thea wasn’t with us that night, so it was just our one tent. There were too many of them for just the two of us to fight off. So I went willingly and kept you free.” Aleksandr explained. He couldn’t see Alexis’ face, but he had been with him long enough to imagine his expression.
“Прости саша Я не ненавижу тебя, я люблю тебя.” Alexis apologized. Aleksandr reached around and rubbed Alexis’ hand, twisting his ring.
“I know, Aljoša, I know. Let’s go home. Back to Keld.” Aleksandr said. “Let’s be Aleksandr, Alexis, and Thea for a while. Let Kane, Axe, and Hate’s reputations die down.” Alexis smiled.
“Let’s go,” he said. Thea smiled.
“Last one to Roiwl takes care of the horses!” Thea called before taking off like a shot. Aleksandr and Alexis grinned before taking off after their friend.
