ORIENTAL - FLAMENCO DANCE: CONNECTING BODY AND SPIRIT
For this edition, we are introducing WAALM’s new collaborating artist, Martinica Ferrara Strova, a talented Dancer and Choreographer from Italy.
WT: Martinica, welcome to WAALM Tribune.
MFS: My pleasure.
WT: For those who get to know you for the first time, tell us about your background?
MFS: I’m a flamenco and oriental dancer, choreographer, and teacher, from Fiano Romano, a small but friendly town near Rome, Italy. My mother and I are the artistic director of the Omphalos Cultural Center. We are specially known for our oriental dance style and artistic interpretation in Italy. Additionally, twenty years ago, my parents founded the Breath Theatre, the only theatre created for oriental dance – a legacy that I am still following and contributing. We promote a multidisciplinary approach to performance, and our choreographies are characterized by the use of various textiles, like veils, wings, fan-veils and other props. I formally studied Oriental Dance and Flamenco, first in Italy, and then in Seville, Spain.
WT: What made you become interested in this form of art, in dance?
MFS: I grow up with dance. Actually thanks to my mother, who is a dancer too, I started dancing when I was only a little girl. I can say I am perhaps fortunate to grow up with dance as my friend, and now as my main passion. To me, dance is the art of connecting body and spirit. The overwhelming feeling of freedom of movements, improvisation, and personal expressions through dance not only can improve one’s confidence, but also can encourage others to experience the same.
WT: In your view, what distinguishes you and your technique from others?
MFS: I formally studied, and still keep studying Oriental Dance and Flamenco as a professional field of art. I’m very dedicated to the Oriental-Flamenco fusion. It’s a language full of artistic possibilities, and for the past few years, I strived to improve my craft and add more and more creativity to it. My dance and its technical execution include use of props, which I inherited and learned from my mother. I often explore objects, and do my best to give them life on stage. Whether I use a fan or a veil, I make sure props are incorporated in such way that they don’t appear simply as accessories, but the essential, integral part of the scene. In my experience, that would facilitate a more passionate, intimate and elegant performance.
WT: Artistically, what is your ultimate goal? What is it that you would like to accomplish through dance?
MFS: My desire is to produce more Oriental Dance acts at the Breath Theater, and promote the study of Oriental Flamenco. To that end, I presented and performed in a number of TV shows, and even got covered in an article by Vanity Fair. Promoting Oriental Flamenco, not just as a dance, but as a field of study in performing arts is my goal.
WT: In you opinion, how dance can address social issues? Can dance be a uniter for a greater good?
MFS: Yes, absolutely. Because dance naturally brings down walls and unites people. It’s a medium which communicates in all honesty, and can immediately connect us all, no matter how strange or how far we are from each other in the world.
WT: You have been recently invited by WAALM Productions to dance and feature on a Flamenco track scored by a highly-regarded Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us more about this project. What was your experience like, and how did you connect with his music, personally and artistically?
MFS: Yes, the music is titled: ‘Devil in Love’, which will be released in Feb. 03. 2023. From the first listening, I liked the melancholy of the composed melody, and its lively rhythm of the Rumba-Flamenco. So, I tried to embody those two energies through my choreography for the project. Artistically, I represent the project through two different frames in the video. That is. two characters framed like paintings in movement. I really enjoyed creating them. For this project, I applied make up in an uncommon way inspiration by the aesthetic of the early flamenco dancers of the forties. It was a nice experience, and I hope viewers like it too.
WT: For those who wish to follow your art, what is next?
MFS: Effective January 2023, I’ll be engaged developing a new project in Oriental Flamenco – series of solo and group performances at our theater. You can learn more about the forthcoming projects and performances through my social media sites.
WT: Martinica, thank you for attending this interview and good luck with everything.
MFS: Thanks for having me.

KATE TODD: A VOICE FOR HUMANITY
The United Nations' General Assembly proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice and Equality in 2007, inviting Member States to devote the day to promoting national activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the World Summit for Social Development.
Observance of World Day of Social Justice and Equality should support efforts of the international community in gender equity, access to social well-being , poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work and justice for all.
Social Justice and Equality are the underlying principles for 'peaceful and prosperous coexistence' within and among nations. We uphold the principles of social justice and equality when we promote gender 'equality' or the 'rights of indigenous peoples' and 'migrants'. We advance social justice and equality when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.
To highlight UN's World Day of Social Justice and Equality, The World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media (WAALM), in association with Music Mentor Productions published 'To Whom It May Concern', a message song written by Mosi Dorbayani, voiced by multitalented artist, Kate Todd, actress/singer/songwriter.
This beautiful piece which is arranged by Amarita and mastered to perfection by Peter Linseman, was originally released in 2017, and since then it is regularly referred to by supporters of this annual observation.
To review this impactful project, we invited Kate Todd for an interview, followed by sharing some reports on its worldwide achievements.
WT: For those who get to know you for the first time, how did it all start for you? How did you enter the world of music?
KT: Music was always playing in our household. My grandmother was the choirmaster at church and played multiple instruments. My love and appreciation of music started there. I began playing the piano at the age of 8. I picked up the guitar when I was cast as musician ‘Lily/Shady Lane’ on the TV show 'Radio Free Roscoe.’ During that time I turned my focus to the guitar and began to write songs in my trailer on set. After the show ended, I continued my musical journey writing, performing and recording albums and ultimately went on to complete my Bachelor of Music degree from York University in Toronto, Canada.
WT: What is music to you?
KT: Music is a universal language. It has the ability to connect and transcend. It stimulates social-emotional understanding. It heals by helping us to understand and release emotions. Music is what makes us human.
WT: You are also an accomplished actress in your own rights. How do you perceive yourself – a singer who can act, or an actress who can sing?
KT: I perceive myself as someone who is a lifelong student of the arts. Music and acting have continually intertwined throughout my career starting with my first role as a singer/songwriter ‘Lily Randall’ on ‘Radio Free Roscoe.’ My acting background offers a deep sense of empathy and understanding of the lyrics I sing. Studying music taught the importance of the space between the notes. I began to realize how much that concept overlaps with acting - breathing through transitions, connecting to your intentions to evoke an authentic emotional performance.
WT: While attending high school you tutored French and gained you compulsory community service hours traveling to local schools addressing students on the issues of bullying. Several years later, you lent your talent and became the voice of Canada for one of the biggest musical projects for humanity in the world, the song, ‘Walk in Style’ – a message song to victims of bullying. What made you care for that subject matter?
KT: I believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect. No one is above another and everyone is entitled to feel safe to be themselves. I love the line: ‘Be a victor and not a victim’ from ‘Walk in Style.’ It gives hope to those being affected by bullying and promotes a very strong message for others to embrace their uniqueness, be positive and to hold onto their values through tough times.
WT: In 2011, you were the spokesperson for The Alliance Against Modern Slavery at York University in Toronto, a non-profit organization seeking to combat human trafficking through partnerships, education, and research. But your activism did not end there, and in 2017 you recorded ‘To Whom It May Concern’, a message song written by your fellow Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani – highlighting the United Nations’ International Day of Social Justice and Equality. Tell us about your memories recording that song, and how it resonated with you?
KT: It was an honor to collaborate with the talented Mosi Dorbayani once again for the United Nations International Day of Social Justice. I recorded the vocals on ‘To Whom It May Concern’ in Toronto, ON with producer Peter Linseman at his studio. We felt we were recording a very special song. The lyrical sentiments resonated as the writings promoted the importance of empathy and encouraged people to unite and recognize that we are all one.
WT: As a responsible artist, you have always answered the calls for recording songs for causes close to your heart – songs that are socially conscious. Of course such non-profit and charitable projects in nature, are targeting the society differently than those typical commercial releases. Mosi, your collaborating songwriter, in his award-winning book ‘Message Song’ states: "Delivering message songs is a great responsibility. Your voice may become the voice of those voiceless, and your words, the words of those inarticulate". Here are the questions: A) What made you become a responsible artist? And B) What did you learn, or experienced along the way by recording those songs, which you may want to share with readers or other artists?
KT: I’ve always felt compelled to write and perform music that uplifts and inspires others. I was taught to treat others with respect, love one another and to spread positivity. When I was approached by WAALM with these songs, I was excited to take part as it aligns with my personal value system.
When performing the songs from WAALM, I found myself inspired by the lyrics as I sang them. Subsequently, every time that I listen back to the songs there are different lines that grab my attention. There are so many great passages found in these works. They are socially conscious songs for the ages - something you can listen to everyday and take away a different message of inspiration.
WT: Thank you for attending this interview, and for lending your voice and talent to this cause.
KT: My pleasure
Now, let us share you with more insights on this project, and see how impactful this song and collaboration was so far.
As it is known to many, Mosi Dorbayani, the songwriter for this project, is an Expert Member of The Academic Council on the United Nations System, who also has consultative roles with many UN affiliated organizations. As an Economist and Public Diplomacy adviser, he is often sought after by both private and governmental agencies.
On 'social equality', and on this project Mosi says:
"Perhaps the core issue in almost every society is with the ‘equal opportunity’. Some reserve opportunities for themselves and for their closest ones, with limited or no regards for others. In many cases, certain figures and societies do not see themselves as part of the fabric for a larger society. Everybody has a dream, dream for a better opportunity, for a better tomorrow. But sadly many believe, facilitating dreams of others to turn into reality, may reduce chances for their own dreams come true. They are prepared to allow jealously, greed, and act of inhumanity take over, and let others’ dreams crumble –at the expense of achieving one exclusively for themselves. As for the song, my technical approach in writing this message song and its melody was similar to the previously shared socially conscious songs. But this time, I decided to make it sound as if I am writing a heartfelt letter to all the mankind across the globe –hence the title ‘To Whom It May Concern’. I tried to voice my concerns metaphorically in form of a letter song’ - deliberately mentioning and reminding listeners of ‘human values’. And of course nobody could have done it as beautiful as Kate Todd. She is one my favorite voices of all time."
Thanks to WAALM's project management operation model, the project reached out to fives continents. Most number of engagements by region are from:
- North America: 40%
- South America: 20%
- Europe: 20%
- Asia: 15%
- Africa: 5%
With 1.2 million FREE streams (including SoundCloud); FM/AM Broadcast to 900,000,000 listeners around the globe, 150,000 song shares via email attachment to organizations/institutions/schools, and 99% Positive vote on its impact, this is considered as one of the most influential message songs in recent decades.
Few months ago, during a collaborative seminar at the UN in Geneva, 'To Whom It May Concern', was shared with the attendees (both in person and online around the world) during which, the song made available for free - facilitating the message gets across to over 700,000 on SoundCloud platform. Currently, To Whom It May Concern' is standing at 2nd place behind 'Hopes in Chain' –another message song also written by Mosi Dorbayani.
'To Whom It May Concern' is not only one of the most outreached message songs in the world, but also by far it is one of Kate's most listened to songs of all time.
But of course its impact and contribution to the world and humanity does not end there!
This project also contributed to education and research. Researchers at WAALM School of Cultural Diplomacy - SCD, wanted to know if young non-native English speakers with drawing skills could understand the theme/message of the song, and if their imagination after listening to its audio, could project the same message.
And of course the results were astonishing. In most cases, the young drawing artists could capture the essence of the message visually very well.
Drawing the song by: Rumi Das - Impression of the artist from listening to the message song -'To Whom It May Concern'
Drawing the song by: Iqbal Ali - Impression of the artist from listening to the message song -'To Whom It May Concern'
The project also created a platform for discussion and dialogue across the social media pages and communities with over 100,000 followers, and it captured the attention of several journals and major news organizations.
Thanks to responsible radio stations and show producers with heart of gold, from the North West Coast of England, to South Florida, USA – To Whom It May Concern, is a letter song to humanity, being sent over the radio waves to millions across the globe.

NEW ZEALAND AND CONSCIOUS MUSIC
New Zealand is famous for its indigenous people who are descendants of Polynesian explorers who settled the Pacific Ocean more than 1000 years ago. The Maori word for New Zealand is Aotearoa which means 'Land of the Long White Cloud'.
The First person to conquer Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hilary came from New Zealand.New Zealand was one of the first countries to give women the right to vote. It was the filming location for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Their cheese, wine, chocolate and meat are absolutely world class, but perhaps less is known about their musicians and their artistic talents. Recently WAALM discovered ‘Shannon Maree’, a creative talented young musician with sweet Kiwi accent and got the chance to invite her for a collaboration on a single release, ‘You Made Me Whole Again’ – written and arranged by Canadian renowned songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani.
The following is a short interview with Shannon:
WT: How did you enter the world of music, what inspired you?
SM: I was brought up in the world of Music in a musical family, my mother a jazz singer and my father a guitar teacher. I decided as a young adult to study jazz performance, in which I receive an honors degree. After which I began travelling the world studying analog electronic music production/composition and different music from cultures such as Bulgarian choral music, Classical Cambodian music and Sargam from India.
youtube
Now I am working full time on my solo project 'iamLawn' and am planning a world tour to promote my new album - Debut. I create music because it is an excellent platform to connect directly to the hearts of many people at one time, it makes me happy and I wish to use my life to spread happiness across the face of the planet.
WT: How do you see the role of music as a form of art for humanity?
SM: Music can connect and transform us. I want to use the power of music to uplift humanity. The need for conscious music more than ever it right now.
WT: 'You made me whole again'- is your first collaboration with WAALM and its songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. How do you feel about the project? How did you connect with this particular song?
SM: The song is very sweet and a lovely little collaboration. I think the project is brilliant. The platform which Mosi and WAALM has created is a fantastic way to connect with people and promote artists from around the world. It has been a pleasure to be a part of it.
WT: What did you like most about this song and what you hope listeners take from it?
SM: The song is very delicate. I love the feeling of the chordal movements and its arrangement. I hope this song and my voice can add a little joy into a person's day.
WT: As an striving artist, what are your main goals?
SM: My main goals are to enjoy my life and bring happiness into other human's worlds. With music, I can write the story of my own path through life, so I may look back when I am older and know that I left my world in a slightly more beautiful state than when I arrived. That is all I ask.
WT: For those who wish to follow your career and music, tell us about your upcoming projects and that how they can stay in touch with you?
SM: The best way to follow me is to become a patron of my work. Patreon is a platform that is allowing me to continue my mission and be sustained by people who dig the work I am doing. People can connect with me directly, have an input in my travel and work and receive cool updates and perks that my normal blogs and content don't share.

A ROMANTIC RENDITION
Introducing British Emerging Soprano Star, Holly Parish:
WT: Holly, Welcome to this edition of WAALM Tribune.
HP: It is my pleasure.
WT: What made you interested in music and if your family are come from any music background?
HP: My parents aren’t professional musicians, but they are both musical and can both play instruments. They encouraged me from a young age and as soon as I had the opportunity, I started lessons for the recorder and flute. I feel very grateful that I had family who encouraged learning music and schools that provided the opportunity to take private music lessons.
WT: On top of having a nice voice, and a stellar talent, you also play instruments and compose, what made you interested in writing and playing?
HP: Well, thank you. Yes, as well as flute and recorder, I play the piano and a bit of guitar as well. In comparison with performance, composing presents a different kind of challenge and throughout my musical education I was keen to improve on those skills. I got into composing more at university where I got to hear live musicians play my work, which was amazing. I love film music and would love to write scores for film and television. There aren’t enough women in this sector, and I would like to see a shift in this male dominated industry.
WT: How do you envision yourself as a vocal artist?
HP: So, I am a classical vocalist first and foremost. I continue to train in this and am working towards my diploma for performance in singing. But I also love singing folk music, blues, musical theatre and popular music. I love singing live as the audience really creates a magical atmosphere, but I am enjoying session singing and recording, of which I’ve done a lot in lock-down. It’s good to know there’s still a space to perform, even if it can’t be in a concert hall.
WT: Who are your musical influencers, and what is your most favorite genre?
HP: That is a difficult question to answer, as I like to listen to most genres of music. I love singing music from the 1940s and 50s, therefore an influencer would have to be Peggy Lee. As I said I really love film music, so composers such as Hans Zimmer and John Williams are very influential. I have been researching more female film composers as they are rare, and I really love the film scores by Rachel Portman. My all-time favourite classical composer has got to be Jean Sibelius.
WT: You were recently discovered by WAALM, who introduced you to Mosi Dorbayani, a renowned Canadian songwriter to collaborate on Folk-Classical single. How was your experience so far, how do you feel about it? Please tell us about the song.
HP: My experience with WAALM has been great, they have been very supportive and encouraging. I have been in contact with Mosi who was very positive about my rendition of his wonderful song. The song is great! It’s sweet and romantic and the fact that it’s a folk-classical mix is perfect, as my vocals suit this style. I have really enjoyed working on this project and I’m so thankful for the opportunity.
WT: We hear there is a possibility of shooting a music videos and award nominations as the result of this international collaboration. How important it is for you as an artist to reach out further and beyond your borders?
HP: That would be very exciting! I think artists always have a goal to share their music with as many people as possible and we’re lucky nowadays that it’s a lot easier to do this with the help of social media and global music sites, such as Spotify. I think as this collaboration is already international, is would be wonderful for us to reach out further to audiences worldwide.
WT: For our readers who wish to follow your artistic career, please tell us about your forthcoming events, plans, and that how they can stay connected with you.
HP: Well, due to the current situation with COVID-19, I have no live events coming up at the moment. However, I do have a few collaboration projects that are in production and will be released soon. I started an Instagram account specifically for my music work and I will be posting on there, whenever anything new is coming up! It’s @holly_parish_music
WT: Holly, thank you for attending this, we wish you a successful career.
HP: Thanks for having me.

A DELIGHTFUL MELODIC VOICE
In this edition, we have an exclusive interview with Rachel Philipp, American Singer/Musician.
WT: Rachel, welcome to WAALM Tribune (WT). What made you interested in music and if your family are coming from any music background?
RP: My pleasure. Well, music has been an interest of mine all of my life. I actually grew up singing in the church starting at age 7 when my dad was a pastor, and then gradually became more interested in the world of music. I started writing music around the age of 15, and then began performing. I eventually went to college and gained my degree in music.
WT: On top of having a nice voice, and a stellar talent, you also play guitar, why you picked that up as your instrument?
RP: I actually taught myself guitar right around the age of 14! I was always intrigued by the instrument as many of my favorite musicians at the time seemed to always perform live with a guitar in hand. It’s a really versatile instrument, and lovely for acoustic performances. I write most of my music on guitar before I bring it into my studio.
WT: How do you envision yourself as a vocal artist?
RP: I like to think that vocally, I am versatile. I love all music, and often times dip my toes in all kinds of genres with other artists/those I am collaborating with. However, I see myself as primarily a pop/R&B artist stylistically. I love creating beats, singing with soul and stacking harmonies.
WT: Who are your musical influencers, and what is your most favorite genre?
RP: I am influenced by so many people for different reasons in the music industry! From a songwriter’s/creator’s perspective, I am always inspired by the brilliance and edginess of artists like Grimes and Billie Eilish. Some of the artists that inspire me vocally today include Whitney Houston, JoJo, and Ariana Grande. When it comes to a favorite genre, my best answer would be pop/r&b/alternative. There are too many to choose from!
WT: You were recently discovered by WAALM - UK , who introduced you to Mosi Dorbayani, a renowned Canadian songwriter to collaborate on an EP album. In one of his resent write-ups, Mosi described you as “a delightful melodic voice”. How was your experience so far, how do you feel about it?
RP: The experience working with WAALM - UK and Mosi Dorbayani has been wonderful so far. Everyone involved is brilliant to work with. The collaboration was smooth, friendly and yet professional.
WT: Your forthcoming EP Album project ‘URGE’, consist of a number of message songs - meaningful songs which are highlighting various social issues.Tell us briefly about each song, and that how you connect with them?
RP: There are three songs that make up this project, including “Rapacity,” “Land of Solitary Hearts,” and “Neither by Day Nor By Night.” ‘Rapacity’ is a song that essentially highlights the issue of greed in today’s society. I think that everyone can relate to this issue, as we live in a highly material world.
The next song, ‘Land of Solitary Hearts’, is about two people in love that are somewhat weary of taking the next step. Love can be frightening, but in Land of Solitary Hearts, it is encouraged that if you just try, it’s worth it. In my past, I was once close to being in this one specific relationship, but I was scared to be vulnerable. Eventually, I opened up and love blossomed. It’s a beautiful thing.
Lastly, ‘Neither by Day Nor By Night’ details a situation where a woman feels exhausted by being used by men. She longs for true love. I’m able to relate to this simply because I know that as a woman in today’s society, it’s often difficult to be viewed as what we are, and not an object.
WT: We hear there is a possibility of shooting some music videos and award nominations as the result of this international collaboration. How important it is for you as an artist to reach out further and beyond your boarders?
RP: Yes, it is exciting! It’s extremely important to reach out all across the industry and collaborate, as it builds connections and helps create even more great music. Personally, I find it really rewarding to step outside of my bounds and work with others because there are more opportunities to create something really unique and special. I also enjoy helping others with their visions of who they want to be and how they want their music to sound.
WT: For our readers who wish to follow your artistic career, please tell us about your forthcoming events, plans, and that how they can stay connected with you.
RP: Later this year in 2020, new singles will be coming! My team and I have been working really hard on perfecting these new songs of mine and shooting music videos for each of them. Due to COVID-19, some plans and dates have changed around, but you can stay up to date by following me!

JOVANA - A RAINBOW IN MUSIC SKY
Today, WAALM Tribune have the pleasure of interviewing Jovana, a raising vocal star from Bosnia, who was recently discovered by WAALM’s chapter in Sweden.
WT: What made/inspired you to enter the world of music?
J: Coming from a music family, music was always something that attracted me a lot since I was a little girl. Even today music still represents something surreal to me. When I make music, I feel all the beautiful in the world, and it fills me with warmth. At first, I started with singing, then I played the violin and a few more other instruments. I studied music academically all throughout my schools and I am currently doing a degree in music. I want to grow more in the world of music both academically and professionally.
WT: Clearly you are a very talented musician and vocalist. What is your ultimate goal in your music career?
J: My primary goal is to make people happy. I want them feel my music as I create them and relate to them.
WT: Recently you recorded your first international EP album, ‘A Rainbow in My Sky’ - in collaboration with the renowned Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. How did you connect with those songs? What was your experience like?
J: First of all, I'd like to say that Mosi is a very talented songwriter, and it was an honor to collaborate with him on this unique project. Each song is very special. Each carries a particular emotional message. I hope I was able to capture his propound words and convey both his and my feelings to the listeners while I was singing them.
In this EP album we have a track titled: ‘Oceans in Distress’, which has a very strong message to mankind. It encourages people to care for the marine life and environment. It is so sad to see people are polluting the oceans and the beautiful nature. We hope this song raises the public awareness.
WT: In your view, who is a responsible artist? What are the characteristics of a responsible and professional artist?
J: Honestly, in my opinion the basic characteristic of a professional artist is ‘commitment’ to the work they do. in case of music, the much you give away, it is the much you'll get back in return. In my view, responsible artists are those who are generous in giving back to their society.
WT: How did you establish your musical connection with your producer, Perica?
J: Perica has been my friend for many years. We bonded over music, as he plays piano beautifully and often accompanies me on stage. As our music relations deepened, we realized that we have a lot in common and that we share the same vision for music.
WT: For those who wish to follow your artistic activities, please tell us about your forthcoming events and that how Fans can follow you.
J: Well, you can subscribe to our YouTube channels: Jovana Zivkovic and Deep Music Studio. Soon we will share some new exciting projects there.
WT: Jovana, thank you for attending this. We wish you all the best.
J: My pleasure. Thanks for having me.

KEEPING THE SOUL OF THE SONG INTACT
WAALM Tribune has the pleasure of interviewing ‘Peter Linseman’, owner of Music Mentor Productions (MMP), a CCMA nominated recording studio & Independent Record Label.
WT: For our readers who get to know you for the first time, please tell us how did it all start, how you entered the world of music and music productions?
PL: I have always been interested in literature and poetry as a youngster and then started playing the drums in my teens. I played for my first band called The Acrylics when I was 14 or 15 and I remember having to sneak into the bars to play the gigs! It was a punk rock band and I just remember playing as fast and hard as I could, just trying to keep up with the super energetic tempos. I started writing songs on my drums but my lyric sheet was on my tom-tom and I keep poking holes in it! So I started on the guitar, in order to have chords to accompany my songs and melodies. Next, it was finding a way to record the songs and a reasonable way was creating my home studio. And then releasing our songs and also learning how to do that ourselves, same with marketing, etc. etc. Music Mentor Productions started when I created the first Songwriting and Music Business Courses offered in Canada at the continuing education program for the Toronto District School Board in the mid ‘90’s. I registered MMP as a production company and music publisher at that time.
WT: You have several artists under your management, how do you balance this on top of producing, co-writing or even performing?
PL: It's a juggling act at the best of times and I have a few mantras that help me. The mantra I say the most lately is "there is always enough time for everything". Aside from creating a two year and five year career plan, the label and artist have an unending stream of tasks and staying on top of social media is a full time job in itself. So my mantras are "what is the next most important thing to do" and "go as far as you can and from there you can see further". My favourite artists/projects are the ones I get to do it all, especially writing and producing, like my new artist Dr Ally K. I'm so proud of Ally, my long time friend, music collaborator and actual GP Doctor!
WT: What was your biggest challenge as a producer? Could you overcome that challenge? If so, how?
PL: I had an epiphany when I was commissioned to co-write and produce a ten song musical way back! Actually, it was a project that Dr Ally K brought to me – a full-length musical about the world of gene splicing, playing God, letting nature take its course, etc. I'm a ‘hands on’ person and have learned everything by doing it, and with the guidance of some great mentors along the way.
I remember the moment, when I was a couple of songs into the musical and I stopped with a realization that I'm in over my head. The pop opera type songs were fine but the more classically based musical numbers were brand new to me. I thought about the music deeply and remember thinking to myself - there are only 12 notes on a scale and songs/production have similarities across the board, like counter melodies, harmonies, beats, shots, etc. I have never looked back! I finished Orchids with Ally and this musical was attended by thousands including a thousand health-care professionals in the Canada-wide performances of ‘Orchids’.
WT: What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a producer as well as a manager?
PL: Creating music out of nothing has always had the greatest appeal to me personally. The next most appealing aspect is seeing an artist successful in any realm of the entertainment industry, especially getting them 'signed' or helping them up to the top level of the game. A recent and very rewarding occurrence is when Mosi calls me Maestro!
youtube
WT: How do you see the role of music in the society today?
PL: I'd like to think that my role is to create and produce music that can touch as many people as possible. I've always tried to keep the soul of the song intact and simply enhance it with production. My favourite creations have a positive emotional impact whether it's being moved physically, emotionally or spiritually.
WT: In your view, what are the characteristics of a responsible artist/musician/songwriter?
PL: A responsible songwriter/musician needs to be sensitive to the music and its life in the music industry, as well as to the artist and their vision. A responsible artist should realize their position as a highly visible role model/idol and also the ages of their demographics. I believe the best artists in the world are great role models especially for the impressionable demographics.
WT: It is more than five years now that you are collaborating with Mosi Dorbayani and WAALM and during all these years, many notable projects were released. Which ones are among your most favourite, name three?
They have all been memorable and it's hard to pick three! But if I must choose, it would be the songs where I not only get to work with Mosi, but I also have the pleasure of working with Kate Todd and Carla Sacco. These are amongst my favourite people on the planet!
WT: You’ve just co-produced a new EP album ‘Sealed with A Kiss’, with Carla Sacco, who also voiced the project. What is your anticipation?
PL: Carla and I are anticipating a great reception to these wonderful selections of songs, which are all about love and joy. They are each unique and the production has its own little universe for each of them. But as we've always experienced with Mosi's creations, they all have a great commercial appeal and pop sensibility to touch the most amount of hearts. We will also promote these songs that we are also very proud of, starting on the relaunch of my website as well as our social media and anticipate a quick response bringing awareness to WAALM as well as Carla Sacco.
WT: Recently, in his social media, Mosi Dorbayani wrote the following about you:
“ In my view, 'Peter Linseman' is a superstar musician in his own right. He has many slashes (/) after his name but yet humble and friendly. Wearing several hats contributing to Canadian music, he is a dedicated professional, who mentors and promotes young talents. His facilitation to boost artistic career of those who are new to the world of music is exemplary. What I personally admire about Peter is that he does not necessarily produce just for the industry, but for the quality music. Hence, his productions score continuance success.” – How do you see yourself in context of music ? 😊
PL: Mosi is a brilliant man! Wow! What flattering and humbling words from Mosi...it’s a rare feeling in this business but Mosi seems to create this feeling constantly amongst myself and my artists. To answer the question: what he said! Mosi has said it all and as I mentioned earlier, I protect the soul of the creation and at the same time support it with production that has a very wide audience and appeal, which is a lot like what Mosi creates.
WT: What music enthusiasts should expect from you in 2019? Tell us about your other forthcoming projects and events.
PL: There are many great projects being released internationally including this EP, ‘Sealed With A Kiss’ with Carla Sacco, which I am very excited about. As I mentioned previously, I am re-launching my new website and also a new Facebook page for my independent label Music Mentor Productions.
We are releasing a six song EP for my new artist Dr Ally K as we speak. I am so proud of the work that Ally and I have done together and have mentioned some of our previous collaborations in this interview. Every track on this EP is cutting edge urban pop production with a great lyrical message. Up, Up & Away - EP by Dr Ally K on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/1aArMYujAxVAz1he5K24cY
We will be launching an album that has been in the works for a few years called ‘Out Of The Wreckage’ by a brilliant artist name Melanie Joy. We have gone over the songs meticulously in the production stages and Melanie is an English major and uses it to write lyrics that make you stop and think!
We will be releasing some original music from Carla Sacco this year and it will be the launch of a new chapter in her solo artist career. Carla is super talented on all levels, the greatest vocalist and performer I’ve had the pleasure of working with, an angel on this earth with a heart of gold...I’ve stopped searching Neil Young! Carla is also the chosen voice to represent and incredible songwriter from Oregon, Mina Whitesides and we will release an EP with a collection of songs sung by Carla, initiated by Mina.
We've already released the single ‘Dance Children Dance’ and we released an inspiring video, with most of it being shot at Carla’s performance at Youth Day in 2018.
youtube
We have just released John Chris Ford’s heart breaking new single called ‘Break It’. http://www.musicmentorproductions.com/john-chris-ford.html
JC is a very talented country artist whom I am proud to get the opportunity to produce and manage. There is a lot more to come in 2019, so keep in touch!
WT: Thank you for taking time attending this interview.
PL: My pleasure.

LOVE IS BESTOWED
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we introduce you to Ms. Christa Marena, a talented singer/songwriter from Guatemala.
WT: What made you enter the world of music?
CM: Since my childhoold, I've been always facinated by singing, performing, and loved to sing. I used to organize concerts with my friends at home at the age of six. When I was sixteen, I decided to study singing in a professional manner. At school, I even auditioned before the director of literature department to get a chance to perform at the Literature Festival in my home country. Of course, nobody knew I was going to perform and that even made it more exciting for me. Eventually, my performance recieved very positive reactions, and made me realize that singing was indeed my passion.
WT: What is music to you and who are your musical influencers?
CM: To me, music is a beautiful form of expression through sound. My musical influencers are: Freddy Mercury, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion.
WT: You have recently recorded a single, 'Rosie Shy', in collaboration with the famous Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project - how did you connect with the song and how it related it to you?
CM: I'm very grateful for this collaboration, and the opportunity to voice one of Mosi's songs. The moment I was approached by WAALM, I realized that this was not only a great opportunity to establish collaboration beyond my boarders with a porlific songwriter, but also a chance to let my voice reaches out to a whole new cricle of audiences. 'Rosie Shy' is about having faith in love, a single release scheduled for Oct. 26th. 2021. This song reminds us to be grateful for the people who stay with us no matter what. To appreciate true love, not to be fussy and treasure those who are genuine. This song is in style of Country and pretty much inline with my forthcoming EP album, which I am currenlty working on. It's a nice coincidence that this song's lyrics and music matches my next project.
WT: Artistically, where would you like to see yourself in five year's time?
CM: I see myself published with at least 5 albums, and many concerts or live performances. Also I see myself as a noted vocal coach, faciliating others to reach their dreams and make it in the music industry.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activites and career, what's in the pipline and what are your official pages?

MUSIC IS A SAFE SHELTER
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we are hosting ‘Rehn Stillnight’, a soprano from Italy.
WT: Rehn, welcome to our latest edition.
RS: My pleasure.
WT: What made you to enter the world of music amongst all other form of arts?
I've always loved singing since I was a child and I had my first bands around fifteen, but I started taking singing lessons only after I graduated in Traditional Arts. I love art in every form, and I still paint and draw when I have some spare time, but I think music touches some inner strings in a way no other form of art can do. When I listen to a song I get many emotions coming from what I hear, I can cry like a child every time I listen to a specific song due to the music or lyrics (or the combination of both) or even when I sing it. Music has been a safe shelter through some really bad times but also a good friend in happy and unforgettable moments, like my wedding.
WT: What is music to you? What would you like to achieve with it?
Music is connection. It connects us with our inner soul and also connects people around the globe. I'm now in an international project (Septum Project) which is a Power/Symphonic Metal band with members from different countries around the world and it amazes me to see how we managed to create an album without being in the same room in person, like what Mosi Dorbayani and I did with the song ‘Wisdom of Years’.
WT: Yes, on that project, you recently have recorded a message song, 'Wisdom of Years', in collaboration with the renowned Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project and collaboration - how did you connect and relate to it.
RS: I've felt like an ancient spirit, who has lived a long life on Earth, being able to see the differences between one "corner" and the other. I tried to connect to the lyrics by reading it many times and also searching for news and monitoring the current events from around the world. People are starving to death, fighting wars and living under dictatorships. If we have the ability to do something for the less lucky ones living on the same planet as us, we should try to change things.
Music has the power to reach people's heart, I hope this song will help to open our eyes to these problems.
WT: In your view, how artists and songwriters should deal with social issues around the world?
RS: For what I've learned in my life, artists are normally more emotional than other people, and that leads us to care a lot about social issues. I think we all should try to do more for the people who are in worse situations than ours. We should raise our voices for the ones who can't do it, and I'm not only talking about artists but all the people in general. We may not have millions of followers, or support of commercial labels, but it doesn't matter. Everyone can make a difference. If we are lucky enough to be able to write songs, we should use this gift also to help the less lucky ones.
WT: Where would you like to see Rehn in five years’ time?
RS: I'd like to see Rehn on some big stage around the world. If I have to dream, I like to dream big, but not for the fame or the money... my dream is to see people around the world sing my songs together with me and each other, I'd love to see people record covers of my songs like I do with my favorite artists. It would be the best.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what's in the pipeline?
Soon we'll release the EP with Septum Project which is almost ready, and my band StarWards' debut album is in the writing process. I'm also writing my first solo album while recording covers on my own or with Rehn:Fade (my acoustic nerd duo). I have many projects going on, actually! And I hope people will like what's coming in the next months.
WT: Rehn, thank you for your time attending this. We wish you all the best.
RS: Thank you for having me.
Wisdom of Years, is coming soon in Nov. 2020

WT: Fahia, welcome to WAALM Tribune.
FB: My Pleasure.
WT: What made you to enter the world of music amongst all other form of arts?
FB: When I was a child, I used to listen to the radio a lot and sing along every song, so I decided to start piano lessons and join a choir. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be a performer.
WT: What music is to you? What would you like to achieve with it?
FB: For me, music is something essential in life. It can be a great companion when you are feeling down. As a songwriter and composer, I can express how I feel and meditate through it. My main goal with music is to share this message with my listeners so they can reflect on my lyrics.
WT: You recently have recorded a message song, 'Seguir Adelante'(Move on / aka Walk in Style), in collaboration with the renowned Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project and collaboration how did you connect and relate to it.
FB: WAALM Productions connected us to collaborate and as soon as I heard the wonderful composition of Mosi Dorbayani, I was blown away by it. I loved the sensitivity and honesty put into the words and music. I recorded my vocals and hoped he would accept. Luckily he did and I am very proud that the song is finally out.
WT: This is a meaningful and message song. In your view, how artists and songwriters should deal with social issues around the world?
FB: I believe artists can express their opinion about social issues through their music. When something is not right in society, it should not go unnoticed, but rather discussed about and spread with positivity.

“A VOICE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH”
An exclusive interview with rising vocal star, Anne Geraghty
Anne, welcome to WAALM Tribune.
AG: My pleasure.
For those readers who will get to know you for the first time, please tell us about your background?
AG: I was born in Ottawa, Canada and grew up in the National Capital area. My mother is French-Canadian and my father of Irish-Scottish heritage. Both are music lovers with eclectic tastes in music. I quickly developed an appreciation for various musical genres in several different languages.
How you entered the world of music?
AG: From my earliest years I benefited from the music program at my school and local church which gave me a wonderful opportunity to sing Gregorian and Plain Chant as well as Polyphonic Motet. I have had the good fortune to study under two singers of international repute, Tenor Steeve Michaud (6yrs) and more recently Soprano Stephanie Beams (1yr). Yet, from my childhood to today my mother has been my daily voice teacher taking the best of what others have taught me and incorporating it into her own voice-teaching methodology. She is the inspiration behind the voice!
WAALM recently discovered you and established a collaboration between you in Ottawa and its international songwriter Mosi Dorbayani, who is based in Vancouver. How do you feel about this new network or connection? Isn't it true that music can make people get closer to one another and united?
AG: I am utterly thrilled to have been chosen to collaborate with WAALM and songwriter Mosi Dorbayani and share in the beauty of music which can be a powerful force of unity among people across the world and I hope that through this new network as wide an audience as possible can enjoy this wonderful song.
This is what Mosi wrote about you after listening to your demos: "Elegant timbre, admirable vocal tone - a voice to fall in love with" - What's your reaction on that and how did you develop such vocal quality?
AG: I am very flattered and touched by Mr. Dorbayani’s impression of my voice. Every singer can point to years of hard work, yet for me, it is the people I have been blessed to meet and work with, who have helped me achieve the voice I have today.
How did you connect with your first WAALM’s project - 'Plead of Heart', what's you feeling about it and what's your take from its words?
AG: I found the melody of ‘Plead of Heart’ beautiful, it has an ethereal quality and the constant refrain ‘give my heart a reason to sing’ resonated deeply within me. There is a note of lamentation coupled with fear of love’s loss. This is a song of love ready to undergo any hardship with and for his/her beloved. It is a joy to sing this song.
What's your musical goal and what you hope to achieve with your music?
AG: I have always loved to sing and if I can bring some comfort to people’s lives in this way, I would like to do so for many years to come.
For those who would like to follow you, tell us about your future or forthcoming events, materials and official pages.
AG: Currently I am working on an EP album from the American-Songbook. I have social media and artist pages on Facebook and Twitter and have an official website homepage. For those who would like to follow me, here are the links:
