—Care to explain? —Dalton expected a lot of things from Toron. Marrying his brother's betrothed took him by surprise.— I don't see what was wrong with becoming Lady of Fair Island. Too much waiting for you?
He had made a hundred plans for a hundred possible outcomes. Lysa would get her birthright one way or another; if she was to become Ruling-Lady of Faircastle, Rodrik was clearly her heir.
Dalton loved the Iron Islands as harsh and cruel as they were; but even him couldn't deny Fair Isle was nicer. It actually had resources to use. The only useful ability Rodrik had was his charm. « Why couldn't he use it when he had to? »
Dalton wasn't on the mood for fighting or discuss. « This is what I get for breaking my own betrothal, isn't it? » He called Gysella into his office to understand what happened... although he rarely used the room. The chimney was unused. The room, cold.
He could try to fake anger, but both of them knew he wasn't actually mad at her, or at Toron. Dalton simply rested on his chair and looked at the ceiling. —Has Toron arrange a room for you yet? I suppose your father doesn't know about your little... arrangement. Are you planning to tell him or should I break the news? —He took a piece of paper and signaled at the pen and paper on top of the table. He cared for Cerrick way too much to keep him on the dark longer than necessary.
« Drowned god, I'm not your strongest fighter. » Gysella was family way before any marriage prospects appeared and Dalton hated arguing with family. « If Gysella wanted to marry Toron, she could've say it. » He could see many reasons for her to desire the match, so he might as well start discarding options.
—Should I expect a grandchild?
