The first image shows a ROM-dump of the font in the legendary terminals VT100 and VT220. The second image is a representation of how they appear on screen. The difference is more than just aspect ratio. Look at letters like q and p: pixels are sometimes doubled, sometimes tripled. The fascinating explanation is here.

I just saw this and after a quick checkout of the latest release (which is what I can quickly install), I feel a bit disappointed. Here is yet another GPU-accelerated terminal that claims to be a VT500 (judging…

So you gotta understand, dear reader -- this is not a computer. This is a terminal, which is basically just a screen and keyboard, and there would typically be a bunch of these all connected to a single actual computer because computers were big and expensive.
For a long, long time in computing, in some settings well into the 1980s, you'd have terminals like this pretty commonly in use. Maybe it'd be connected over a serial line (you remember serial ports, perhaps?) or over a modem so you could dial in to a real computer far away.
When you "open a Terminal" on a Mac or Linux computer, you're running a computer program that is pretending to be, speaking the same protocol as, these physical devices that used to be pretty ubiquitous. The terminal notion is baked deeply into computers still, and will be at least until we eventually get rid of UNIX-style operating systems like Mac OS and Linux.
When I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s, you would use something akin to one of these to talk to the library card catalogue system at the public library. Eventually my public library phased these out, and in the late 90s @fluidtoons and I came to own a few of them. They're really fun; I had a DEC vt220 that I used regularly and brought with me to university. I kinda miss it.
You can still rig them up to modern computers. It's actually really straightforward to add an extra (text-only!) screen and keyboard to a Linux computer with such a thing.
I never had a Wyse terminal, but I had, in the 90s, a Wyse keyboard that I never figured out how to rig up to anything, and that was one of the most beautiful keyboards I have ever touched.
