Have you ever thought that Coran’s feelings are a little bit uderestimated? Undoubtedly, he’s forever young gorgeous man with gourgeous moustache, but he’s also an advisor for the team. He offers his compassion and wisdom to guide his best friend’s daughter and new paladins through this dark times of war. But...

The last season made me look deeper into his personality. That comic-relief episode was nice, but showed Coran’s internal fear to let the team down. What was it? The natural need to be valued? Well, let’s leave this thing to Lance.

I guess, Coran had had good relations with old paladins since he had been the closest person to King Alphor. And right after he realised that his beloved friends had gone Lions chose new paladins. As we know, Voltron has specific requirements, so Coran has seen how deep are the similarities of these kids with the old paladins. 

As far as I concerned, Coran has been the first one to realise, how much pressure will be put on Allura’s and team’s shoulders. Of course, at first he always looks after Allura, but, quiznac, the others are even younger (if compared with their lifespan). The further they go, the more depends on them. Now they are literally the hope of the Universe. Here’s the question, where do they find hope?

And here’s the toughest part. Coran understands that deep inside our young paladins need someone’s support. And he is the only man to give it, simply because of his wider experiance in life. No wonder he fills insecure sometimes and hides it beneath this goophy behavior. That’s the clue for the situation from the episode, where his fear is shown. If he cannot provide this support, no one can.

The feelings I describe may be simply my headcanon, but I believe, that Coran is an essential part of the team in many aspects. I only hope that more people would be concerned about his emotional experiences, as well.
