Chapter four

Laiya

Laiya woke up in a bright mood. Her head was clear and she felt a sense of relief. She stood to her feet and slipped her feet into her house slippers. As she headed to her bathroom she tripped over something. She bent down to pick up the orange material. It was Minghao’s shirt. She brought it to her nose and inhaled deeply. “Smells just like him.” She spoke to herself with a huge smile on her face. Memories of the night before flooded her mind.

“I just want to talk.” Minghao spoke to her in the hallway. “Can we do that?” He asked while expecting a decline. He didn’t know what brought him there but he missed her presence.

She took a deep breath. “Yeah.” She gave a breathy answer. Her heart was pounding as she put the code in on her door to unlock the apartment.

He politely walked in behind her and took a seat in one of her bar stools.

She stood near her refrigerator. “Would like a drink?” She cleared her throat and held her chest. Her throat felt like it could close at any moment. He had never been to her house, how the heck had he even found it, she thought.

He chuckled a bit. “I’ve had plenty to drink at the club. One more beer and I might marry you.”

“Wait- what?” She spoke quickly. Had she heard him correctly.

“It’s no secret that I want you, but it’s also no secret that it’s all one sided-“

Laiya swallowed hard. “When did I ever say that?”

“You didn’t have to. Your actions prove it.” He laughed a bit. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, I just really want my friend back.”

She exhaled and walked to him. She grabbed his hands as he stared at the ground. The alcohol was giving her a bit of courage. “It’s not one sided-“

He looked up immediately with those four words. “What?” He whispered.

“But. . .i do have fears.” She looked away.

At that point he stood to meet her eye to eye. “And what fears are those?” He moves his face close to hers.

Her balance became a bit unleveled. Her breath caught in her throat. All she could smell was him. The forest musk of his cologne mixed with the beer spilling from his breath. Somehow she liked it though. It was intoxicating. He was intoxicating. “I know you say you like me, but have you noticed the age gap?” She looked down at her hands which were steady holding his. Somehow she hadn’t noticed that they were still in physical contact.

Suddenly it became even more apparent when he pulled one of his hands away and rubbed her cheek gently. “Even if I had noticed, who says that I care?”

“What will people think? How will they view it? How would your parents feel? This is kind of a big deal.” She argued quietly.

He covered her mouth with his finger. “I don’t care what people think. The only thing that matters is how we think. Do you like me?”

She nodded. A bit confused as to why she answered so quickly. No hesitation at all.

“Then leave your worries behind. I know work is important to you and you got a lot going on. I just wanna be apart of your stuff that you got going on. Nothing heavy, just us enjoying moments together. No pressure.” Minghao simply stared at her. He didn’t want to overwhelm her with a deep confession. He honestly just wanted a bit of her time. He just missed being around her period.

Laiya smiled. “No pressure? I really can’t afford any more pressure or stress added to my life.” She assured him. Work was enough stress for the rest of her life honestly. It wasn’t that the job was hard or that her boss was horrible. She added stress to herself because she was a perfectionist. She was hard on herself in every aspect and she didn’t know how to balance it out.

“No stress. No pressure. I just want part of you, until you’re ready to give me all.” He kissed her forehead.

Her heart began to pound. He was being so considerate of her needs. “Can you handle things being like this?”

“If it means I hold some importance to you then I can handle anything.” He smiled and led her to her bedroom. “Can I hold you tonight? Or is that too much pressure?”

She smiled a bit. “That might be what I need after the type of day I had at work earlier.”

She folded his shirt up and laid it across her bed. She wondered when he had left. She fell asleep in his arms. Maybe that’s why she had woken up in such a great mood.

Elyse

Elyse sat in the office that she and Naomi shared and began lesson planning for the week. All the guys learned differently so she had to be creative in terms of teaching so that they’d comprehend the proper way. She clicked her pen against the table in thought.

A knock sounded on the door. She looked around to see Coups standing in the doorway.

She sighed with a small smile. “What is it?”

“I’m hungry, I was wondering if you wanted to catch a bite to eat with me?” He flashed his flirty smile.

She shook her head. “I think I’m okay.” Her stomach sold her truth out when it tumbled. She had skipped breakfast.

“Come on. Your stomach tells no lies.” He flashed a smirk this time.

“I really have to finish this lesson plan for the week so I can go over it with your managers.”

Coups rolled his eyes. “I don’t know why that’s mandatory for you and Naomi. Y’all do a great job, y’all don’t need babysitters.”

“It’s just apart of the job. They want to make sure the company isn’t paying us for nothing.” She replied and continued tapping her pen against the wood.

“Well then I’ll order out and bring lunch to you. We can eat together in here.” He fetched his phone out of his pocket.

She giggled. “Why is it so important that you eat with me?”

“Because I know you’ll skip another meal if we don’t.” He placed the order online. “It’ll be here in about thirty minutes.”

“How did you know I skipped a meal already?”

“Your stomach always growls when you do.” He responded.

Another knock sounded on the door.

She closed her eyes for a moment wondering why she was so popular today. “Come in!”

It was Wonwoo.

He paused when he noticed Coups sitting next to her. That didn’t sit right with him and it sort of proved his fears that maybe she was into Coups just as much as he was into her. “I’ll come back when you’re not busy.” He started to close the door.

She stopped him. “I’m not busy. I mean I am but if you need me then I’m here.”

Coups watched the interaction. “I just had a few questions about last week’s lesson. It can wait.” He answered.

She shook her head. “No what’s your questions?”

He looked from her to Coups.

Coups caught the drift. “I’ll go to the lobby & wait on our food. Be back in a few.” He smiled and patted Wonwoo on his shoulder.

Wonwoo took a unsteady breath. “Do you feel okay today?”

“I woke up with the worst headache and I couldn’t eat because my stomach felt horrible so to say the least, I’m not doing so well.” She smiled a little.

He was holding a insulated tumbler. He shoved it towards her gently. “It’s hot but drink it and you’ll feel better.”

She raised an eyebrow. “What is it?” She lifted the lid off and smelled it. It had a strong herbal scent.

“It’s a tea my mom used to make when I had an upset stomach as a kid. It works well for hangovers too.” He pulled out a bottle of Advil. “This will help your headache.”

Elyse smiled and held the tumbler close to her. “Does your stomach feel sick?”

“No.” He answered blatantly.

“Then why do you have this tea?” She asked.

He cleared his throat. “Because I figured you might need it after last night.” He looked away.

She stood and hugged him gently. “Thank you for being so thoughtful.

Coups interrupted the interaction when he came in and sat the food down on the table. “Foods here.” He smiled.

Wonwoo gave them both a tight smile. Suddenly the room felt crowded.

“We have plenty if you want some too Wonwoo.” Coups told him.

He shook his head. “I already ate. Thanks anyway.” He hurried out the office.

Coups took a bite of his tteokbokki. “So what were you thanking Wonwoo for?”

She took a sip of the tea. It didn’t taste great but if he swore by it then she was going to try it cause she felt queasier than ever.

“Well aren’t you nosey!” She giggled and stared at the spare rib soup he had bought her. It smelled so good but she wasn’t sure if her stomach was going to agree with it.

Coups stared at her for a moment. “Just wondering.” He snickered as he rubbed her leg.

Naomi

Woozi ran to catch up with Naomi who was heading out the building. “Hey, did you forget?!”

Naomi stared at him in complete shock. “Forget?”

“You were supposed to help me with some of the backing vocals for the hip hop team’s song. Elyse already did hers. I’m just waiting on you.” He smiled.

Naomi had totally forgotten that she was supposed to do that today. “I did say I would do that today didn’t I?” She sighed.

“You forgot, right?” He looked disappointed.

“Naomi!” A male called her name out with a korean accent. Finally the guy came from around the corner. It was one of SVT’s managers. One of the good looking ones. The one that all their fans even had a crush on.

Naomi’s eyes widened. “I’m coming, just give me a moment.”

The guy nodded and headed outside.

“I haven’t eaten all day. Can I record after I get back?” She asked with a huge smile.

He sighed. “We have vocal practice.Then we have our English lessons after that.”

“I’m so sorry Wooz. I really forgot and Seungjoon was hungry and so am I so he invited me out with him.” She tried to explain.

Woozi nodded. Dispoitment written all over his face. “Like a date?”

She shrugged a bit. “I don’t know. Maybe.” She said with a smile. “Lord knows I need a date. I’m always with Elyse or third wheeling with Vernon and Natalie. Or with you.”

“Sorry we all bore you.” He pulled his phone and sent out a quick text to whoever.

“You don’t bore me but I do need male interaction other than with my best friend. Most guys don’t talk to me because we’re always together.”

He cleared his throat. “So it’s my fault that you don’t have a boyfriend?”

“No, it’s not i’m just saying. Most people think you and I are a thing undercover, which is crazy cause girls and guys can totally just be friends.” She giggled.

The more she talked the more Woozi wanted to escape this conversation. He had came to terms with the fact that they’d always just be friends but the more she rejected him the more he felt heartbroken. He had carried feelings for her for so long and held them in. He guessed that he would be holding them in even more. “Yeah just friends is what we are. Seungjoon is waiting.” He said nonchalantly.

“Tomorrow can we record? Same time? I’ll bring my lunch!” She asked him with a smile.

He shrugged. “Whatever. If you can fit me in let me know. Otherwise we can finish it without you.” He walked away quickly.

For some reason him walking away from her made her heart tense up. It almost felt like something had changed between them. Something dark had overshadowed their relationship. She didn’t like it. They kept moving 3 steps forward to get knocked back 10 more.

“Are you coming?” Seungjoon asked as he stepped back into the lobby.

Naomi smoothed her clothes down. “Yeah of course.” She smiled and headed in his direction.

Idk i just fell in love with him as soon as he appeared on the episode?? like he doesn't have a single negative feelings towards anyone?? he's always patient and encouraging to the trainee as i just love him????

2. koo jungmo (starship ent.)

baby !! idk i kinda just fell for him after searching him up on twt. he’s so pure and he just wants to improve his dancing >:( he also pulled off the 7th sense so well and did so well for the vocal x dance ‘attention’ stage. he made me swerve into his lane so fast i’m scared but i hope he’s satisfied with how he has improved and works hard to bring out his fullest potential !

3. song hyeongjun (starship ent.)

uGh baby!!! he took up the role of a leader and tried his best to teach everyone in the x class even if it meant him not being able to progress ultimately leading him to take the blame. poor baby :< (his girl group dances are also amazing btw)

another starship baby! he looked so defeated after seeing his best friends get grade x because he was so sure that it would mean that they'll go back but he made sure to work hard to ensure that he'll make his friends proud and get an a. also when his face lit up and he started crying after seeing hyeongjun and minhee my heart just uwu-ed

uwu little bean i want to protec. when he strolled in with his heelys and owned the stage i just went uwu. but soft baby bean can also attac a.k.a boss stage like i- wow. he did so well as the main rapper even if he insisted on being one of the vocals but his position really made him shine

9. lee jinhyuk (top media)

main rapper come thru !!! although his position in the 'boss' stage didn't really allow him to showcase his rapping skills, i hope that his future stages really let him shine with his amazing rapping.

another up10tion baby!! i fell in love with his mellow singing voice and him being the center for love shot just made me fall harder oops. there's something about him that just draws me in and idk what it is...

You couldn’t believe how lucky you were having the job of your dreams, chasing everything one day you asked for. And your determined outlook kept you focused on those goals making you obtain them. You were working at Pledis as a singer for a year now and your life became better, even more with the blooming relationship you had wit one of your co-workers.

Jihoon was your producer and working with him was, certainly, your favorite part of being there. You knew him before you entered the company because you stanned his group and found him really cute. But when you started working with him you figured out why the members teased him about his temper.

Yes, he seemed to be a bogeyman at the beginning. You never saw his smile when you got started. But when the time passed by he started treating you better, even being funny about your gestures while singing. He loved teasing you about what you do while recording a new song. He also attended your MV’s recordings to ‘support you’.

And you were not regretting having a friend like him.

But some days you noticed his look on you changed. It got warmer like he felt something undiscovered when he saw you. You caught his glance a couple times and he just responded at you with a shy smile trying to hide his face turning his back to you and scratching his neck.

“Jihoon, what are you thinking about?” You asked someday starting your new album when you caught his mind out of the room. He was acting really thoughtful, like he turned when he was thinking about writing a new song.

“Nothing. I’m just…” He hesitated leaving a sigh. “I’m just distracted.”

“So, something might be surrounding your mind.” You asked curiously.

“It’s not something…” He looked at you trying to prompt you to guess. “It’s...someone.” He pondered.

“OMG! I CAN´T BELIEVE IT” You shouted excitedly about the new in his life. “Lee Jihoon is in love. That’s neeeew!”

“Y/N, calm down.” He smacked his forehead. “I think it could be better if I didn’t tell you. Anyways, I have to go. See you tomorrow at…”

“4 p.m.” You answered quickly as he walked out of the studio, leaving you confused about his sudden leave.

Next day you were kinda bored so you decided to go to the studio earlier knowing that Jihoon would be there, ‘cause that was his cave, practically. You walked quickly as soon as you get to the building. And when you were about to step on Jihoon’s studio you stopped at the sound of his harmonious voice singing a song, a love song, that you never heard before.

When you got in you saw him practicing something, basically whispering while talking to himself. You caught up something he was saying and you realized he was practicing his confession to the unknown significant other he was hiding.

“Y/N, You’re the one. It may sound weird ‘cause I’m not that kind of romantic guy, but I felt for you.” He said while turning to face you and getting shocked at your presence. “W- What? You were supposed to be here at 4.” He said embarrassed.

“But, I’m here…” You said dying of cuteness at his confession. “And I think that you’re not the only one who has those feelings.” You let out timidly sliding the tip of your foot on the floor.

JEONGHAN

Your day was running as usual. Your boss yelling at you during your shift, your co-worker being the asshole he always behaves like and your clients being incredibly impatient. It was driving you crazy, getting you out of your mind. Tired you decided to take some air, walking to the backyard and ‘throwing the trash’.

As soon as you stepped outside of the cafe your phone rang. You instantly withdrew it off your apron pocket. You looked for the contact ID and felt how your heart jumped against your chest. You tried to catch your threatened breath before talking to him, your sunshine. The only one that was able to fix your mood.

“Jeonghanie, how are you?” You said hiding your displeasure.

“I'm fine. Are you good, Y/N? ” He said identifying the suspicious tone of your voice. “I feel you strange.” He trembled due to your attitude.

He knew you pretty good, enough to find out you weren't feeling good. It was impressive for you how someone could go through you and discover all the enigmas your inner being could keep.

“It's just my work. Things are getting worse day by day and you know… I feel kinda tired.” You explained while walking towards the trash containers and resting your back on it.

“I got an idea.” Jeonghan muttered. “You can quit. It's the only thing that will relieve you.” He added enthusiastically as nothing will happen.

“But, Hanie. I have lots of bills to pay.” You passed your fingers across your hair desperate. “I can’t find another job to save enough money for paying my apartment.”

“You’re so stubborn, babe.” He emphasized on the last word giving you shivers. “I would help you with that. We'll search together and if it's necessary you can move to my dorm ‘til we figure out something.”

First of all, your best friend whom you had a crush on was calling you ‘babe’ for the first time. And second, he was basically asking you to move with him. God dam! The slowest run for it, but the fastest…

“I'm picking you right now there. And I hope that when I see you your apron will be taken off.” He said making you came back to reality and hanging out.

You ran to the cafe and looked for your boss who mysteriously wasn't yelling at everyone that passed by his glance. You bursted into his office encouraged but were stopped at the sight of your friend talking politely to him.

“Oh, Y/N.” Jeonghan greeted cordially without leaving his sit. “I was talking with Mr. Wen, teaching him how a knight has to treat people.” He stood up and pecked your cheek painting it red of embarrassment.

“Mr. Wen I wanted to talk to you.” You opened your mouth to keep when you got shocked at the feeling of Jeonghan’s hand tangling his fingers with yours.

“I already told him everything. My girlfriend can't be used like that.” He smirked looking at your eyes and training you outside the office, outside the cafe, to the street where his car was parked.

“Your girlfriend?” You said surprised and excited.

“Yes… Uhm.” He whispered scratching his nape. “I wanted to ask you in a fancier way, but the situation needed some pressure.” He recovered his composure and continued. “Y/N, I'm crazy about you and I don't want any bad in your life. I want to share my all with you. Let us be.”

“We have being us for a while, but today I'm pretty sure I became your girl, Jeonghanie.” You answered hugging his waist. “Thank you for everything.” You added while he kissed your forehead.

JOSHUA

You didn't see the hour to come back home after the hardest day you have faced at college. You had millions of tasks that didn’t seem to end, but you needed some rest urgently. Your classmates told you that they could stay longer working on their part and will help you with yours so you could take some time for chill at your place.

You arrived late at night to your dorm. Your roommate was at his boyfriend’s house so all the lights were turned off and the door was locked down. You were so worried that the fact of having to look for the keys to get in stressed you out. But that was the only way.

You slipped in and walked towards your bedroom with your zombie mood on, without even turning the lights on. You knew your space very well and you didn't need them, apparently, until you shocked something.

You were kinda confused, trying to mind what was it and why the hell was hindering your way to your precious, and urgently, needed bed.

Grunting you walked toward the switch. You freezed at the sight of the biggest gift box you have ever seen. It was beautiful. It has heart-shaped balloons tied at the top. It left you highly confused.

You wanted to call your roommate to ask if it was hers, but something told you to look for its postcard. And you find it hanging off a red thread. You opened it delicately and your eyes shut open when you read it.

Your heart wanted to explode. Was it real? You were rushing trying to unbox it. You were shaking, your hands didn’t answer. It was unbelievable.

You were dating Joshua just for a month, and you couldn't deny that the thing between you two was growing quickly and strong. But it stills a surprise, a mystery, about why he was doing this move so quickly.

The box contained a beautiful roses’ bouquet, a little chocolate box (your faves), and a sign where a big ‘Do you want to be my girlfriend?’ can be read perfectly in a golden ink. It made you tremble leaving your eyes watery.

“What can I say, Y/N?” Joshua stepped out of your bedroom meeting you at your shocked expression. “You got me and I'm not letting you go. I don't want to waste time.” He said holding your waist.

“Josh, I'm…I'm just…” You hesitated before he cupped your chin with his hands making you look at his eyes. “I'm so into you. And I don't want to wait neither.”

He smiled seconds before collapsing his lips over you leaving a sweet taste over them.

“Then, we don’t have to, babygirl.” He said intertwining your hands. “I have something prepared for us tonight, but… you look so tired.”

“I am.” You bended your head embarrassed for ruining his plans for you two.

He suddenly carried you and laid you on the couch. “Don’t worry. We can have our date indoors.” He coed kissing your sleepy eyelids.

DK Flashes lighting, haute couture clothes and lots of image consultants. It was the summary of your daily routine since you became a top model. You always kept busy with photo shoots and interviews, but nothing really fun or interesting at all, just like the superficial things about being in the fashion industry.

You arrived at the studio early, without makeup and wearing baggy clothes that looked like pajamas, looked trashy and tired. You didn’t want to do that photo shoot, it was becoming for you boring, without having enough time to interact with more people unless they were your managers.

And you thought today wasn't going to be the exception but resigned you stayed focused because it was the job you choose on your own.

“Y/N, come here, please.” Your manager spotted your lazy mood and started grinning in disappointment. Your knowledge about his behavior told you that he was getting angry about your attitude, making you notice the ass you were acting like.

“Sorry, Soonhyuck-nim.” You bowed apologizing.

“Don't worry, Y/N.” He forced a smile while turning his head to the two men standing in front of you. He extended a hand presenting you to them.

“Y/N, they're Seokmin and his manager, Huedong-nim.” You bowed at them noticing how the good-looking boy smiled with a pretty warm grin. His look reminded you about someone you have seen before but your memories weren’t answering you the throbbing question.

“You and DK are going to collaborate for the magazine’s cover.” Your manager added talking about the guy. And you absolutely recalled his face. He was an idol for a group you used just to listen to. 

You started working hard. And you didn’t have a single second without the feeling of DK’s gaze over you. He was lost on you. You didn’t know how much he admired you. Your beauty was something that always had caught his attention since you became a famous fashion icon in Korea. He practically had a crush on you, and he was not letting this opportunity to pass.

Having you by his side, even if it was working, was driving him crazy. Millions of thoughts traveled his mind nonstop. The jitter feeling rushing around his body tried to control his decisions, but he was blown by a confidence vibe and decided to make a step.

“Y/N, you don’t know how glad I am working with a model like you.” He approached you at the vanity while your stylist was retouching your makeup. His sudden chat took you in surprise, but his words made you blush and smile.

“That’s a pleasure for me to work with a talented boy as you, Dokyeom-nim.” You stood up bowing slightly showing him all your respect and admiration. You faced him and noticed his beautiful smile, and it was because of you. Your eyes lightened up at the sight of his attitude about you. He was really handsome, and a gentleman, without doubts.

“I was wondering…” He started shyly lowering his gaze while scratching the back of his neck. “I was wondering if exists the possibility of taking you into a date.”

 He suddenly looked confident smiling.“Oh!” You exclaimed in surprise. “I will be glad if you do.” The warm painted red your cheeks at the thought of him being interested in you.

 He was such a gentleman and you appreciate it.“Really?” He brightened. “I can believe it.” He said laughing and calling his manager desperately.

SEUNGKWAN

“How many times do I have to tell you that you’re slaying with that dress?” Seungkwan rolled his eyes. He had spent the whole evening accompanying you while shopping. His role carrying your bags wasn’t hard for him since he loved this plan with you, he said it fed his fashion sense, and you weren’t refusing to be helped.

“I don’t know…” You said taking a look again at the full wall mirror next to you. “I think that we might go to the next store. I heard that the new collection has arrived and that’s amazing.”

He hummed at your wish and waited patiently while you put on your clothes. You stepped outside of the dressing room handing the seller a couple of blouses you wanted to purchase. First of all, Kpop is not just simply pop music, as the name suggests. Within the genre kpop are actually many different genres of music mingled and there’s something nice for (almost) everyone to find. I’ll give you some information about my favourite groups that might help you find what you could like. I will also link mostly title songs as they are the more popular songs and usually have a music video (kpop music videos are always very aesthetic btw).

Starting off with my ultimate favourite group Stray Kids. They are still rookies as they debuted in March 2018 but I’ve fallen in love with them and their music so much that I highly recommend you checking them out. They are a 9 member boy group with three of those members, Bang Chan, Changbin and Han (knowns as 3RACHA) writing and composing all of their songs. 3RACHA has been releasing pre-debut mixtapes on Souncloud throughout 2017 and if you like hip hop/rap music, you should definitely give them a listen. They mainly release ot13 songs with one of their members, called Woozi, being the main composer but they also released songs in their respective units. Some recs are:

i rly enjoy how you discuss svt's personalities and dynamics and im curious ab your thoughts on each unit's group dynamic!! like i remember the members have said vocal team r kinda the most chill, like do you think it has someth to do w woozi, as the leader, not being one of the oldest and also being more of an introvert?

I feel like I’ve analyzed this before, but when I went looking for that analysis to use it as a reference, I couldn’t find it. So maybe it was a tag rant, or a analysis I did for a friend on a one-on-one level? Either way, I’ve always loved seeing the units interact personally, because it’s a really good basis for character analysis! 

So here we go! A breakdown of individual unit dynamics! 

1. Hip hop unit

I decided to start with Hip Hop unit because I think I’ve covered them the most in the past, so I’ll start with something I’m familiar with discussing. I like to call Hip Hop unit “family unit” because it seems to me that a lot of their dynamic is similar to a family. They like to play and tease each other, but they also support each other very well. They not only encourage growth and finding the high points in “failures” (see: Coups assuring Vernon that everyone still loves him and is jealous of him because he gets recognition from SMTM instead of angry at him for sullying their name at debut), but they also encourage growth in non-hip hop activities (see: Mingyu wanting to pursue art and Wonwoo pursuing being a vocalist). Instead of being focused on success in a business way, they seem much more focused on encouraging success on a personal level. It fits with Coups’s style of leading, where he would rather mediate problems and give advice instead of directly giving orders. He tends to focus more on making sure individuals are happy and taken care of instead of management to an end goal and that gives off more of a personal touch to his unit. He’s also very open to others teaching him lessons, which is also a good touch to the overall dynamic, encouraging people to view him more as someone to go to for advice and help instead of for orders and direction. While this style of leadership does have its faults- it’s hard to maintain a good balance and it’s easy to become insecure that others may not respect your authority- it works out well for Coups and the rest of the unit. The personalities under Hip Hop unit are also good to consider for how they react to this style of leadership, for instance Vernon and Wonwoo are seen as having very passive personalities that prefer to get their work done on their own time without having someone police them or tell them what needs to get done. Also the type of work, rap making, isn’t as group focused as creating harmonies for vocal unit or syncing the dance of performance unit. 

All in all, Hip hop unit has a very relaxed, very supportive dynamic that functions well on personal levels and matches with the leader’s style as well as the content they produce. Their dynamic is similar to that of a family or a very close group of friends in a workplace, and it goes over well.

2. Performance unit

Generally, when I talk about Performance unit’s dynamic, I talk about it in terms of a singular person, in terms of Hoshi’s leadership and how he leads a group with a hard dynamic to pin down. This is because Performance unit has such a difficult dynamic to begin with. It’s a unit with two foreign members and the youngest member, and the dynamic of the unit changes as Jun and Minghao get more solid in Korean and as Dino grows up and starts solidifying his style and preferences. However, this sometimes works in their advantage. In fact, you might say that their biggest strength is being dancers in the end, since the nature of their work is physical and goes beyond explanation or discussions. By putting the emphasis on the feeling of the music and the sync of the physical moves, Hoshi is able to move past the barriers of communication and into expression instead, and it works out very well. Performance unit becomes very harmonious and efficient, putting together synced up stages full of feeling and emotion. But Performance unit dynamic doesn’t end there. In observation, the close knit nature of the friendships in Performance unit is a testament to their non-working dynamic, for when they have a break or just hang out as a unit. Dino showcases his reverse charm of being the cute maknae but also being on top and responsible, Hoshi shows being encouraging of Dino’s hobbies and interests like doing his Michael Jackson girl group dances with him and making sound effects for him and taking his ideas into consideration for choreo such as the Dangerous and the Very Nice choreo where you get the touch of MJ and also shows that he’s close to The8 and Jun by offering advice and playing along with them, and of course Jun and The8 both become closer through their own good Peanut Butter and Jelly dynamic, and it adds a sort of “Four friends hanging out” feel to Performance unit when they get their own personal time. They all laugh and talk and play off of each other’s jokes, and while there may be some people who are closer than others, no one ends up feeling left out.

In general, Performance team has a really good dynamic. They’re able to overcome what looks like a barrier and instead use it to their advantage on a professional level, and then on a personal level they really shine their individual personalities that work well together. The difference between the family dynamic of Hip hop unit and the friend dynamic of Performance is that while Hip hop unit is while Hip hop unit is really comfortable being with each other to the point of being able to take joking shots at each other that would be downright insulting from anyone else, Performance unit is like a group of friends hitting the mall who laugh and have fun and maybe tease each other a little on individual levels, but on the whole they’re here to have a fun time and take silly photos of outfits that they would never consider actually buying. Very lighthearted, very upbeat dynamic. 

3. Vocal unit

Since you asked about Vocal unit, I decided to tackle them last. Especially since I think it takes some context applied to it, because it’s very easy to hear my opinion here and assume it’s a bad thing.

In comparison to the other two units, Vocal unit has a much more businesslike dynamic. When Hip hop unit mostly works as individuals and Performance unit spends most of their time perfecting sync and emotion, Vocal unit spends a lot of time organizing, practicing, working on harmonies, a lot of activities that require a single boss of the unit who tracks things and delegates tasks and keeps everything in line. Woozi’s leadership style may not actually fit this well, as he seems like you said to be more introverted who prefers doing his work alone in a quiet environment, however with a little bit of time to adapt to his role i’m sure Woozi actually prefers the “sit down meeting” style to Scoups’s “one on one personal” style of leadership. He’s able to stay in his comfort zone, keeping the discussion focused mainly on work while he remains in control of situation and is able to use his personal connection to the music and attention to detail to help build harmonies and perfect tones. It’s important to understand that while Hip hop unit benefits from having leadership like Coups, Vocal unit benefits from having structure and focus through Woozi as vocal relies very heavily on teamwork and harmony with the other members, and so lots of communication and practice and work goes into it. And, like all the other units, they have a rest dynamic as well, where during breaks Woozi will sink more into the background and members like Seungkwan and DK will become center stage in the group. However, the strength of Vocal team’s play dynamic is that Vocal unit has a lot of emotion-based members. Seungkwan’s emotional intuition, DK’s kind heart, Jeonghan’s soft spot for caring for others and not wanting to see them in pain, and Joshua’s gentlemanly manner with playful tones all culminate in a single unit. So even when Seungkwan takes center stage, he’s not as hyperactive as when he’s paired with Hoshi. Instead, he considers the personalities in the Vocal unit and adjusts his humor accordingly to bring out the playful sides of members like Jeonghan and DK, resulting in a dynamic full of sunshine and laughter that is relaxed and still playful, not too over the top and ridiculous. 

In conclusion, Hoshi has said that three units in Seventeen is like three high power engines in the same car, and that’s very true. Different leadership styles and different dynamics lead to different strengths in different times and areas - Hip hop unit is so fun to watch in a competition, Vocal unit is always good for a game and a laugh travelling from place to place or in between shoots, and Performance unit is great in action, playing around, running and dancing... Seventeen’s strength really does lie in the diversity of their personalities and talents, and there’s a little something for every person and every situation.

Why is woozi called vobo?

Hi omg!! Idk how but I missed this ask so I’m so sorry for the late reply ;_; Woozi is called vobo because he’s the VOcal team’s BOss and Jeonghan(?) I think started calling him that so it just stuck since then :“)

Family Dinner | Woozi Fluff

Anon: SO i saw this picture on Instagram of a drawing of SEVENTEEN's Vocal Unit, where Woozi was the dad and taking care of the other members of the unit (because they were babies), Jeonghan and Joshua was wearing bunny onesies and Seungkwan and DK was wearing puppy onesies. Can you do a scenario based on that? A day in the life of Woozi and his wife taking care of the four children?

Character: Lee Jihoon (fem!reader) Word count: 1639

Your four children often split off into two teams; the troublemakers and the peacemakers. Seungkwan and Seokmin raised hell, jumped off couches, bounced on beds, stole cookies from the jar before dinner. While Jeonghan and Joshua tried to take care of them, to look out for the devilish boys and keep them safe. Or at least, Joshua did. Jeonghan was a member of the devilish team sometimes. But the hell he raised was nothing compared to the youngest two.

Which meant that Jihoon was stressed, always.

He worked a tiresome job, nine to five was the minimum but often times, he was kept back. Either to finish paperwork, help out the newbies, or even by his ignorant boss who wanted to brag about his trophy wife and his last game of golf. Once Jihoon was finally free, he had his family to look forward to.

Or at least, he looked forward to them most nights.

Some nights, they were more stressful than his job.

Luckily, tonight was not that night.

Tonight, with his shirt slightly unbuttoned and tie completely undone, he fell in through the front door. His shoulders felt heavy, weighed down with the weight of the world.

And also the sudden weight of Seokmin.

He was the most energetic of the kids and loved to pull pranks and annoy his dad. To you, he was an angel (mostly). His pranks and tantrums were all saved for Jihoon. This led family members to labeling him a “Mummy’s Boy” but you disagreed. Seokmin saved all his time and energy for Jihoon. That boy loved his father and wanted every second of his attention, even if he had to misbehave to get it.

The boy had tied bed sheets to the ceiling fan and Indiana Jones style climbed his way up, Seungkwan cheering him on. Once the front door opened, Seungkwan quickly ran off and Seokmin, half up the rope, was left dangling. Just at Jihoon’s shoulder height.

He hooked his legs and Jihoon held them for support as Seokmin swung from the rope onto his father. He wrapped his arms around Jihoon’s head, squeezing a little too tightly.

“Daddy’s home!” was screamed right in Jihoon’s ear.

“Jihoon?” He heard your voice far off, from the back yard maybe. He wandered that direction to find that his assumption was right. You were sat in the backyard, looking radiant in the dwindling sunlight.

It was half eight now, the time that the sun started to sink below the horizon during summer.

Jeonghan had shoved every kind of flower, weed and long grass strand he could find into your hair. “It’s a beautiful braid,” he had explained and you could only nod. Of all the boys, he was the most “feminine.” Not that either Jihoon or you called him that. Jeonghan was Jeonghan, that’s all. You didn’t care what made him happy as long as he was happy.

He preferred to keep his hair long, loving when you would brush and play with his hair. Nothing felt more relaxing, especially when he was sick.

“Look, Daddy!” he exclaimed. “Isn’t Mommy’s hair pretty?”

Jihoon looked at the tufts of grass shoved into your messy hair, various wild flowers and weeds piled on top of your head. And forced a smile.

“She’s beautiful! Did you do that, Jeonghan?” The child beamed proudly in response. “You did very good!”

“Thank you, Daddy.”

“How did he get up there?” you ask, referring to Seokmin. You reached up to teasingly tug on his ankle and he laughed shrilly, trying to pull his leg free. The action caused the flowers and weeds on your head to slip off and Jeonghan gasped dramatically.

“Where’s Seungkwan?” Jihoon asks. “He ran off when I came in.”

Remembering that Jihoon had caught him swinging on his makeshift rope, Seokmin suddenly sat up. “The rope was Seungkwan’s idea!” he said immediately.

Jihoon often times didn’t yell.

When the boys misbehaved and he was mad, he would go silent and stew in his anger as he devised a punishment. The punishments always changed. Sometimes they couldn’t visit their friends, or be forbidden to have dessert after dinner, or allowed no television for a week.

He had a variety of punishments to keep things interesting.

Just because Jihoon didn’t yell at catching Seungkwan and Seokmin, it didn’t mean they weren’t in trouble.

“NO I DIDN’T!”

Seungkwan came dashing out from inside, mostly likely having taken cover under the table or behind a door. He liked to hide when he was in trouble, turning punishment time into hide and seek as Jihoon would have to search the house first for him.

He wrapped his arms around Jihoon’s leg, burying his face into his fathers stomach. “He’s lying!”

“No I’m not.”

“LIAR!”

“What did they do?” you deadpan.

“Seokmin swung from the bed sheets like Tarzan,” Seungkwan answers, only for Seokmin to shriek, “ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS YOUR IDEA!”

“NO IT WASN’T.”

The two had a strong set of lungs, always had. The nurses commended you for it the moment they were born. Neither you nor Jihoon were as happy about that once you brought them home. They both cried for months after their birth, none stop.

You often thought that they would make great singers in the future.

Joshua and Jeonghan were the opposite as babies. Joshua didn’t even cry when he was born, making you panic, but the doctor assured that he was perfectly healthy, regardless of the silence. He kept that up, rarely crying as he grew. Jeonghan did cry at his birth but quietened down after that. In most cases, he only cried to get his way. He could put on the water works, pull an A+ pout and worm his way to getting what he wanted.

Joshua was especially weak to his crocodile tear filled acting. He would go without food and water if it made Jeonghan happy, but luckily his brother was not that cruel.

After Seungkwan’s confession and Seokmin’s denial, you decided to leave Jihoon in charge of their punishment. That was his specialty. Yours was talking. If the boys had a question, they went to you. If they were upset, they went to you. Talking was easier in your mind but Jihoon swore that it was ten times harder.

“What’s going on?”

The new voice is from Joshua, who’s making his way into the backyard. He sits next to you, curling against your side. Jeonghan notices him eyeing his handiwork, meaning the mess of your hair.

The boy beams.

“Do you like it?” he asks. “I did that.”

“It’s beautiful,” Joshua replies, voice even. It’s hard to tell if he’s lying to keep Jeonghan happy or if he truly believes that. You hope it’s the first, only for the sake of his sense of style.

Jeonghan’s smile brightens. “Thank you!”

“So what’s going on?” Joshua repeats, resting his head back on your shoulder. Jeonghan takes a seat on your other side and you throw your arms around them.

“Seokmin and Seungkwan were misbehaving,” Jeonghan explains.

“And it’s earned them no dessert,” Jihoon continues.

The two wrapped around him groan.

“But Dad!”

“No ‘buts,’“ Jihoon responds calmly. “Be lucky that you’re getting dinner at all.” No dinner was a threat of his but it was never serious, even the boys knew that. He would never make them go hungry, regardless of how badly they misbehaved.

“It’s ready to serve, if you’re hungry,” you tell Jihoon, referring to dinner.

He nods.

You pat Jeonghan and Joshua on the back, indicating that it’s time to stand up. They follow after you, practically on your heels, as you lead the way into the kitchen. Jihoon sits at the table, Seokmin having climbed down to sit on his lap. Seungkwan pulls a chair close by, cuddling into his father’s side.

Jeonghan and Joshua sit too, leaving a chair in between them for you. It’s clear to see that the eldest were Mummy’s boys, while the youngest two were Daddy’s boys.

“Do you want help?” Jihoon calls.

Sometimes, everyone helps. You all set the dinner together as a family. And sometimes, Jihoon sets it himself as a way of thanking you for cooking the meal. A few times, the boys have done it too. Usually for your birthdays, or Mother or Father’s Day.

But today, you wanted Jihoon to relax.

You shake your head. “No, thanks. Hey, Joshua, why don’t you tell Daddy about your guitar lessons?”

Joshua excitedly recites what he had told you earlier. He’d been taking guitar lessons for a few months, and was progressing rather quickly. His teacher told you that he was full of promise, much to Joshua’s delight.

“Wow, so you’re a genius? You get that from me, not your Mother, you know that, right?” Jihoon responds.

You roll yours eyes. “Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.”

The boys giggle.

With everything reheated and arranged neatly on plates, you set each one on the table. Your plate was last, but no one dared touch their food until you sat down.

“Thank you,” Jihoon says, reaching across the table to squeeze your hand briefly. You feel your heart melt a little. “Boys, thank your mother for the meal.”

“Fhahnks,” Seungkwan tells you, mouth filled with food.

“Eww, fhat’s grossh,” Seokmin tells him, mouth also filled with food.

The two smile at each other, showing off the half chewed food.

“Stop it!” Jeonghan squeals. “You’re both gross!”

This was a typical day in your household. Although family life might seem mundane to some, it wasn’t to you. You loved every minute with your family, even if they got on your nerves, or if you were tired, or having a bad day. Despite the arguments, you were a close knit family of six.

And you wouldn’t have it any other way.

In regards to this post: post/158632953624/ they actually call Woozi VoBo, short for Vocal (team) Boss. In Korean, the letter ㅂ is pronounced the same as the letter 'B', and since in Korean they don't have a 'V' sounding letter, they use ㅂ instead! so hence why it's translated as Bobo (보보) instead of Vobo!
