Devlog Update #1!

Can you believe its only been a week since Rekindle was released and we are already sitting at over 1.5k downloads!!

When the team decided on this little venture it was a little passion project with the idea that if people liked it then great, but it was more important to us to bring these boys to life for us first.

To know that so many of you have fallen in love with them warms our hearts so much!!

We truly appreciate your support as we learn to navigate the world that is VN creation and hope you keep falling in love with the boys as we do.

We plan to bring you updates as often as we can with whats happening behind the scenes, what are the devs up to, showing off more art and giving you some crumbs about the trio!

Pap App VN Update

Totally not dead... yet ;3

Anywho~ for the recent events I wasn’t able to work on the VN’s I’m planning to release due to work that kept me busy for quite awhile. Well just because I have work doesn’t mean I’ll stop working on the current individual VNs and the upcoming VN projects with the collaboration of my fellow artists and beta tester who help me developed “A Date With Papyrus” in the mere future.

For now let me show you the Pap App simplest menu you’ll ever seen:

Despite its simplicity, it took me hours to make sense of its placements using image buttons which kinda suck... that's why I hate configuring GUI...

But nonetheless I had fun, will update the game and maybe a full release of the game. Well its a short VN anyways, purpose of playing with the GUI and the additional feature including the chat feature.

Small(or not) what if scene 👀 What if Mushroom Boy didn't have the ability to hypnotize people, but just read their minds???

Like an AU where his powers are different? I'll indulge since the scenario does seem interesting! 🍄

If Mychael didn't have hypnosis but instead read minds under cut:

Mychael's hypnosis is pretty much his main go-to for survival. As a pacifist (or at least he tries to be) the fastest way to de-escalate a hostile situation is throwing a hypnosis blanket over the threat and make them docile/non-aggressive. If it has a mind he can manipulate why go about it any other way? And keep in mind it's a one-way street. He can feed thoughts into your head but the only way he knows it's working is you reacting externally like with your words and actions.

But suppose he can't manipulate minds but only read them? I think it would shift his entire personality. Knowing people's true intent and what they think of him would change his survival behavior. Instead of placating the threat directly and just force people to accept his presence (albeit under mind control), he'd have to adapt on the spot more often.

He'd have to say and act in whatever way that would earn others' trust enough so they won't hurt him, or just turn and run if he feels like they're out for his blood. He'd be more manipulative, less open and honest, and wear several more masks than he already does now. He'd never give away that he knows what you're thinking at any time, since that's basically his only tool to survive so he wouldn't give up that information easily.

And I imagine after hearing "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT" over and over and over every single time he meets someone new, he'd just accept nobody wants him at all. So would he even begin to yearn for company? Absolutely not.

This was a really fun scenario so I made a quick doodle just highlighting their main mindsets:

Keyframes 1.1 Patch Out!

Alright lovelies patch build is out! Things you can look forward to are:

Finally seeing those CG variations for the library!

If you play through that studying event and try something different than what you had done previously then you should be able to unlock those now! So completionists can finally say they got all CGs haha

QTE Key Inputs Accessibility!

There's now three different speed modes that you can change at any point during your gameplay! The default is still there, but there's now a Slow and Slowest option that you can even test out before you jump into the game.

Currently, these speeds don't apply to any other timed scenarios outside of the QTE Key Inputs because there's some considerations I have to weigh with the whole word count/amount of options that get shown with timed menus-- but don't worry we hear the players who have expressed struggling with those sections!

The rest of the changes made addresses some bugs and continuity errors that were reported. Hopefully there are no more issues but just in case do send any you catch to support@blankhousegames.com por favor!

Day 3 Progression Post! 🍄

Hello fireflies! The long awaited progression post is finally here; the amount of sprites may be overwhelming but keep in mind it includes duplicates of the same pose with minor expression changes haha. So realistically once I have a base pose I can knock out 5-6 in one go!

Day 3 has been beta-tested by my lovely fiance, and while they say the writing is good I still wanna include some separate interactions so the MC feels more natural to players (this goes for people who wanna flirt with Mychael vs. wants to be casual with him but still friendly!)

Just like I did for Day 2, I’ll be linking this post in the pinned one on the blog <3 Sorry this took ages to take off, the past few months have been a major up and down for me creatively, but I'm glad I managed to get this list together! Anyhoo, here’s the asset list for Day 3:
