Stargazing

"It's beautiful isn't it?" You seem to say as you look up at the stars. Vlyad looked up with you and smiled, " The sky sure does...Look there's Virgo." He pointed at the constellation.

"How do you know?"

"Because the body is there and the stars connect, they are supposed to show a woman with wings." He explains as he traces the stars.

Vlyad enjoyed it when it was just you and him. When he was away from the Shadow Knights and away with the burdens that came with it. He looked over to you and your relaxed form, how your doe eyes stared innocently at the clear night sky. He didn't need to pay attention to the sky to see the stars. He had you.

Vlyad knew that he couldn't keep this up. He shouldn't keep you around anymore yet you made him feel something. Years of isolation and training to keep his mortal feelings at bay seemed to come crashing down once you had arrived into his life and that is what scared him.

Vlyad didn't know what would happen if he suddenly allowed himself to feel again just like he would've before he became a Shadow Knight.

" Hey, what's wrong?" There it is again, his heart melting with just your words. He held your hand and kissed it, "Just admiring the stars."

I have so many feeling and ideas about this but my god yes. Having garroth be so casual about his methods and vlyad quick to agree.

I’m Imagining the whole family talking about war plans at the table and the surrounding people just mortified by this family. Because now they can see why this family stays on top. Why they follow the Ro‘meave family and cower.

Do you think the Ro’Meave brothers’ O’khasian upbringing ever unexpectedly slips past their various masks? Not the princely noble stuff but the bits that remind you very viscerally that they’re from a kingdom built and sustained on war.

Vylad is the ultimate spy. He’s an expert at slipping through a crowd undetected, at finding perches and escape routes. His first instinct when raiding a place is to find all the maps and books that might compromise him or his allies and burn them. He’s a master archer who snipes from the shadow and flees before anyone that isn’t a Shadow Knight can even figure out which direction he’s in. In fact, he’s a master of evasive action, he’s been chased down at least three times in Season 1 and escaped without issue every time. He’s infiltrated any number of villages without anyone noticing. He could single handedly devastate entire armies by taking out a few key players.

Ooh, Zane. His tactics are all about morale and efficiency, he has things to do and if someone gets in his way he will demolish all they love and make them submit, but he’d do it from the shadows. He would burn the places of faith, burn the libraries, take a good hard look at whatever serves as a schoolhouse and once their morale is at rock bottom he’d give the enemy leader an ultimatum that makes it seem like Zane is going to try his best to convince the O’khasian forces to stand down. He makes himself seem like a savior, like he’s negotiating on his enemies’ behalf because he strives for peace. If he can’t manage that, he does the next best thing to protect his carefully cultivated persona; leave no survivor.

Garroth’s all about honor, but every so often when they’re plotting tactics he’ll suggest something absolutely brutal or make a comment about doing something like starving out their enemies or blocking their gates and setting the walls alight. He does it with such nonchalance, completely at ease while he points on the map where best to do it. He’ll say a warning is best made by setting an example, usually by gutting someone and hanging the corpse at the gate. That’s how O’khasis wages war, so that’s how Garroth learned to wage war. He doesn’t realize that what he’s said has super unsettled everyone else at the table until he looks up and finds someone staring at him like they don’t recognize him. Whenever he does this with Vylad in the planning session, Vylad will very readily agree with these tactics and that only unsettles their friends more.

These boys that grew up around the tyrant that leads the greatest military the region has to offer, war used to be their day to day. They should show it every once in a while. They should turn what O’khasis taught them against O’khasis itself.

The fact Irene is just Some Guy in MCD who is able to have such a powerful relic -- that was created from HER magic -- feels........weird. I understand like, ahah lore!! But also that makes Aphmau way too op.

I would be okay with Aphmau being Irene and cursed with this immortality and eventually forgot everything along the way, that's very compelling. The issue is that Irene is basically a GODDESS.

Personally, I see the Divine Warriors as just some people who ended up discovering the true nature of magic and exploring it even more, having that magic stored in the relics forever.

Irene's deals with light and healing, a nurturing type of magic. Shad's is the opposite, one of darkness and flames, but can be controlled with the right user. Esmund's is strength and protection (think of magic shields). Enki's would be nature in general, the winds, the waters, etc (not creating it and not having all that much control over, more like a guidance and hearing of it).

With Menphia and Kul'Zak, I'm not sure what to do. We don't really know much about them period, but I will take recommendations and ideas.

NOW regarding the relics themself, like I said, their magic was turned into relics for preservation. I'd say Irene did it after Shad went off the deep end, with ALL of their magic, taking away all of their full potential, hoping their descendants know what to do with that power.

Since Shad is still alive like Aphmau/Irene, I'd say Esmund and Enki (along with the Menphia and Kul'Zak if still included) died while protecting her. She's already seen so much destruction with kingdoms (and her revolution) and now seeing someone whom she cared for turn onto them and kill her two friends. It's a constant war until Shad sends her into a coma, possibly crystalized even. When she wakes up, she isn't "Irene." She picks up the first name she could think of: Aphmau. And she lives life as this person who is always mumbling to herself, having a tons of pets, and helping people out of the goodness of her heart. The original Irene.

Back to the relics, in the canon Travis doesn't take the relic, I'd keep that the same but shake it up so he gets it eventually. The reason why he doesn't WANT to take the relic is that he isn't sure how it'd react to him being part Warlock Demon and that might taint Enki's power.

Oh, and Aaron is no longer related to Shad, he's still traumatized and cold at times, but not related to "the destroyer" and basically fated for doom. I decided to be Zianna related to Shad, thus the Ro'Meave brothers are too, while their father is related to Esmund. Which is why Shad haunts Zane is my version (AND BRINGS VLYAD BACK SO IT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE NOW <3 ) and wants to get close, Zane is able to have the power of his relic and he wants to control that. But, Garroth is able to possess Esmund's relic.

See, with relics, it's more so if the person is able to wield, if they have the right heart, mind, body, and soul to do so. No one knew that besides Irene, and Shad presumes that anyone can hold onto the relics, and he saw Esmund's, Irene's, and Enki's relics as all more powerful than his and wants to possess them which... Why he takes over Garroth's body.

This is the really long post but I've just been thinking recently ABOUT the Divine Warriors.

Oh, also, the main point of this post (and what caused the spiral) was the idea that when someone has the relic in their possession and it trusts them, basically, it attaches itself to the body right on the heart, meaning that if someone wants the relic, the holder has to die.

The family tree looks awesome! So who's Vlyad's bio father, if you have one for him? Also what does the ancient script say on the right?

The Old Script also says "The Ro'Meave Lineage". I wrote abt this in a different ask if you wanna check that one out, but basically I created an OC for Vylad's dad who was the Ro'Meave family doctor. He was Jeffory's uncle and posssibly a descendant of Kul'zak. I'm not 100% attatched to him yet but he's who I'm going with for now.

My next pick would be Chad.

Oh buddy we were COOKING in the bang server and if you don’t mind I’d like to add the Ro’meave counterpart of the smoking headcanons ‘,:)

- Garte who has always smoked around his sons, Zianna who only partook when in fellow royal company to appease social norms

- Garroth who viciously refused to smoke because he wanted to be nothing like his father

- Zane who smokes despite his frail, sickly, immunocompromised body despising him for it because he wants to be his father so badly

- (I could talk about immunocompromised Zane for a good while)

- Vlyad who smokes because of the aforementioned comfort it brings to Shadow Knights. He doesn’t mind it too much

- Garroth finding himself smoking one of Laurence’s old cigarettes/cigars in the time while Laurence is missing to cope with the stress before realizing what he’s doing and stopping like someone poured ice water down the back of his armor. He has the thought of, “Oh god, I am my father.”

- Zane who is finally able to smoke after becoming a Shadow Knight and he revels in it thinking, “O God I am my father.”

- (Not a smoking hc but related to Laurence and his angst horrors) Lucinda who can see through all of Laurence’s illusions and glamours with her witch eyes. While everyone else sees Laurence as a regular human, she sees him as the corpse barely held together by hell and beyond.

- Werewolves and Mei’fwa may not be able to truly see Laurence but they sure can sense him. Sometimes when Nana goes to visit Dante at work she has this unsettling feeling of “Something is dead here.” It’s always just Laurence.

Bonus round, the silly ones:

- The smell of smoke is so strong and difficult to get out of their armor and uniforms that at least once a week Garroth and Dante shove Laurence off the docks into the water to “clean him”. It only works a little bit.

- Sometimes Laurence’s smoke smell sticks to the other guards. There’s a new rule that Laurence has to go at least more than one building away from the guard tower now to smoke because Dante once came home with it sticking to him, offended Nana’s delicate cat nose, and the rule is really just there to keep Nana from coming down to the office and beating Laurence’s ass.

- Laurence once fell asleep with a cigarette still in his mouth. When Garroth tried to gently remove it as not to wake him (and to throw it out) Laurence got unconsciously defensive and ate it so it couldn’t be taken away from him.

- No he did not tell him he ate it. He’s saving that fun fact for their next petty argument.

Angst & The Horrors™️

- laurance (and other SKs) who are quite often heavy smokers (whatev those ru’aunians got) because of its ability to take the edge off of their frayed nerves, but also because the smoke in their lungs feels reminiscent of breathing in the nether atmosphere, and that makes their subconscious miss it a little less.

they either appreciate it or hate it for that reason

- garroth who remembers his moments with his father like the back of his hand, and who remembers smelling that same smoke around him. being pissed when (around s1, prob after dante joins) he smells that familiar smell on laurance, urging and urging him to drop the habit. laurance avoids explaining why he does it for a while; until he can’t take it anymore, and the next time garroth says something to him about it, he breaks and spits his reasoning out like venom.

- laurance who quits. he does this after that last confrontation, when he can’t forgive himself for his attitude towards garroth, so he apologizes by trying.

- laurance who picks it up again in secret when the calling gets worse, while garroth is trapped in the irene dimension. garroth who returns and immediately notices; and he’s pissed. until he can’t bring himself to be angry, because he can see now how terribly laurance has been doing mentally.

- laurance who hates how dead he feels. how he can breathe but it’s never with purpose, how he hears a sickening rattle from his lungs the angrier he gets, as if to remind him that breathing is of no use to him anymore.

- laurance who can’t stand the bone-deep cold of his skin. who apologizes when he brushes hands with someone, because ‘oh god they can feel how cold i am, i’m not human anymore and they can feel it’

- laurance who thought he’d never hear that haunting ancient language of the nether again when he escaped; he’d never see it written again and it would be locked away in his memory; only to one day discover it in an old tome in emmalyns collection. he suddenly can’t think, or even pretend to breathe, and all at once his body feels like a husk as his soul slips in with that haunting tongue, and he has to get away from that book. he can hear the words swimming in his mind like a cruel song, and he’s terrified. “where did you find this”, but he is gone in a flurry before he even hears her answer.

Been thinking about what Aph and the Ro'meave's would have been like when they lived near each other, and I thought of Zianna and Sylvania taking them to the beach one summer <3

You took notice of Vlyad's recent behavior lately

He has been more decent and talking to himself more then usual

Every time you did what always seems to calm him down he would hesitate and give you an excuse and go away

This night he held you in his arms as you both laid down. Crying.

His grip was as if it was made from steel. It was as if you were that last thing to hold on to. To keep him steady. He treated your hug as if it was the last thing keeping him afloat while he is lost at sea waiting for land to show.

Vlyad looked into your eyes and was thinking. Regretting.

You don't know what he is planning but seeing it distressing him so much makes your heart break.

You made a circular motion with your thumb on his back knowing that it calms him down

You knew not to push on any answers and just hoped when he was better that he was going to explain everything to you later.

Vlyad hasn't experienced this type of pain before. He has to always be calm, ever since his turning into a Shadow Knight, Vlyad had to make sure he regulated his emotions.

Yet that went all out the window when he met you, grew close to you, built a relationship with you, loved you.

"I don't know how to do it" and other similar verses kept spilling out of him over and over.

"You'll find a way" you said without knowing what he is referring to ,but just wanted him to know that he had your support.

Vlyad just looked up at you, swollen eyes and just smiled. He released a small sigh and kissed your forehead.

“You're right.... You're always right " he mumbled.

“We should go to bed yes? I'm sorry for keeping you up my love. " You nodded your head at him and told him goodnight.

“Goodnight... Im going to miss you"

You didn't hear that last part because sleep took over but you wished you had.

Waking up, you were alone. Vlyad no where to be seen. His stuff , gone. Everything you had of him was gone as well, even the hidden items.

It was as if he was never in your life. There wasn't even a dent on the bed to let you know that he was there just the night before.
