Week 30 in review: OnePlus Nord, Asus ROG Phone, Galaxy Z Flip 5G are here
Last week held several important announcements, but the biggest by far was the OnePlus Nord. With the Nord, OnePlus returned to the affordable segment and did so with a very capable product. The OnePlus Nord has a 6.44-inch 90Hz display, Snapdragon 765G chip with 6GB,8GB ot12GB of RAM, a good camera array on the rear, dual camera on the front, and a very affordable starting price of €400/INR 28,000. The OnePlus Nord will launch on August 4.
Asus announced the ROG Phone 3, which is a rather different propostion. It’s the gaming-PC of smartphones and comes packed to the gills with high-end features. A 6.59-inch 1080p AMOLED with a refresh rate of 144Hz, a Snapdragon 865+ with up to 16GB of RAM, a 6,000mAh battery, stereo speakers, 64MP main and 13MP ultrawide cameras, and a premium retail package with both a case and a cooling fan. All of that won’t be cheap – the ROG Phone 3 costs €1,000 for the configuration with 12GB of RAM and 512 GB storage.
Lenovo also unveiled a Snapdragon 865+ phone with 144Hz refresh rate screen – the Legion Duel (Legion Pro in China) will launch in China on August 5, starting at CNY 3,499 ($500).
Samsung decided to announce its Galaxy Z Flip successor before its Unpacked event on August 5. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G will go on sale in Europe and the US on August 6 and brings a Snapdragon 865+, 5G and two new colors to the Galaxy Z Flip platform.
Samsung still has a line of phones for the major event. The two most interesting leaked in detail last week, suggesting that the Galaxy Note20 Ultra is a real beast. It will premiere with a 6.9-inch WQHD+ 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED, a Snapdragon 865+ or Exynos 990, triple camera with 108MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 12MP 5x periscope zoom camera, premium glass and metal build, and a 4,500mAh battery.
The Galaxy Note20, on the other hand, doesn’t seem nearly as glamorous. It gets to keep the chipset, but it will reportedly get a flat 6.7-inch Super AMOLED of 60Hz refresh rate, a 12MP camera instead of a 108MP one, a 64MP 3x telephoto instead of a periscope zoom. Oh, and its S Pen might be inferior to the Ultra’s.
Those were the highlights of last week. See you in seven days!
Tumblr media
The phone will be available in Asia and Europe and will receive 3 years of support. The OnePlus Buds TWS headset was also unveiled today.
Tumblr media
It will feature a centered Infinity-O display – a first in the Galaxy M line.
Tumblr media
For comparison, Gorilla Glass 6 only promised to survive drops from 1.6m, competing glasses shatter at just 0.8m, says the company.
Tumblr media
It will be likely announced on August 5.
Tumblr media
The latest report from South Korea is that plans for dropping the prices fell through, so expect price parity but with extra features.
Tumblr media
There are tons of optional accessories that can enhance the game play, the phone itself comes with revamped shoulder keys.
Tumblr media
It will come outside of China but will not make its way to the US.
Tumblr media
This is the SM-G986U, i.e. the general US version, rather than a Verizon-specific model.
Tumblr media
This mega leak follows a similar one focused on the Note20 Ultra, which surfaced yesterday.
Tumblr media
The GIF image shows the phone in the “Mystic Bronze” finish.
Tumblr media
Future devices with 2GB RAM or less must run Android Go, those with 512 MB won’t qualify for GMS.
Tumblr media
It will be offered in at least three colors.
Tumblr media
This should be waiting for you to install it once you take the phone out of the box.
Tumblr media
The Redmi 10 places second right after the vivo iQOO Z1 on the rank list.
Tumblr media
This year’s iPhones will use high-quality lenses from South Korea and China.
Tumblr media
There’s specific mentions of the Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Watch 3.
Tumblr media
It gets a faster chipset, 5G connectivity and comes in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Grey.

Best Phone Under 15000: The Best Mobile Phones You Can Buy for Under Rs. 15,000 (February 2020 Edition)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many great smartphones can be found for under Rs. 15,000 in the Indian market right now. Thanks to intense competition over the past few years, you can get features and capabilities at this price that would have been restricted to premium models not too long ago.  Multiple new models have launched and we’ve seen price cuts on a few older ones recently, giving any potential buyer lots of options. The sub-Rs. 15,000 budget bracket is crowded but we are here to help. We have compiled our top picks for the best phones under Rs. 15,000, and these includes some recent launches from Realme, Vivo,  Xiaomi, and others.
As always, every phone that we are recommending has gone through Gadgets 360’s extensive suite of tests. For the best mobiles under Rs. 15,000, we are only choosing from the phones priced between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,0000. For phones priced under Rs. 10,000, read our updated guides on best phones under Rs. 10,000 and best phones under Rs. 7,000.
Best phones under 15,000
Phones under Rs. 15,000 Gadgets 360 rating (out of 10) Price in India (as recommended) Realme 3 Pro 9 Rs. 12,999 Redmi Note 8 Pro 8 Rs. 14,999 Xiaomi Mi A3 8 Rs. 11,999 Realme 5 Pro 8 Rs. 12,999 Vivo Z1 Pro 8 Rs. 12,990 Samsung Galaxy M30s 8 Rs. 12,999 Oppo K1 8 Rs. 13,990 Vivo U20 8 Rs. 10,990
Realme 3 Pro
Realme has released some really good smartphones over the past year, and the Realme 3 Pro was one of them. This mid-range smartphone from Realme has been superseded by the Realme 5 series, but still offers good battery life and performance. In our review, we found the phone to be capable of providing a good experience for day-to-day use. It is able to run heavy games without any hiccups and also handles multi-tasking very well.
The Realme 3 Pro captures good detail in daylight landscape shots, but photos lack some sharpness. Thankfully, you will only notice this when you zoom in all the way. Taking low-light photos is a big tricky with the phone as it tends of reduce the shutter speed considerably.
The Realme 3 Pro ran for 14 hours and 13 minutes in our HD video loop test, which is quite decent. Some people, however, will miss having a USB Type-C port on this smartphone.
Realme offers three storage variant of the Realme 3 Pro in the country – 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB. Prices have fallen since this phone launched and you can sometimes find all three variants within this budget when they’re on sale.
Redmi Note 8 Pro
Xiaomi’s successor to the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Redmi Note 8 Pro (Review) is a great option for anyone looking to buy a phone under Rs. 15,000. This phone offers a good performance without any lag or stutter, and it also provides decent battery life. The 4,500mAh battery on the phone lasted about 14 hours in our HD video loop test.
Imaging is another area where the Redmi Note 8 Pro shines. The photos taken with this phone in the daylight come out sharp and have good detail. Even in low-light situations the phone was able to capture a decent amount of details. Redmi Note 8’s display offers vivid output and is bright enough for use outdoors.
Xiaomi offers three variants of the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India – 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128GB. Only the base 6GB + 64GB variant is available within this budget, but it’s still one of the best phones under Rs. 15,000.
Xiaomi Mi A3
The Redmi Note 7 Pro isn’t the only Xiaomi smartphone that you can consider when deciding what to buy for under Rs. 15,000. The Mi A3 is also potentially a good option, especially if you aren’t a big fan of MIUI, as it is based on Google’s Android One platform and runs on stock Android.
Xiaomi Mi A3 comes with a premium design and offers good build quality, but the HD+ screen resolution is a potential weakness, even though it’s an AMOLED panel. The Mi A3 doesn’t disappoint on the performance front though, and we didn’t face any lag or shutters.
Like its predecessor, the Mi A3 also offers good battery life, and it ran for 16 hours and 21 minutes in our HD video loop test. The Mi A3’s cameras are also a strong point, but it struggles on the HDR front. The photos we took in daylight had good detail and the phone was able to lock focus quite quickly. Low-light shots also came out good.
Xiaomi offers two variants of the Mi A3 – 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB. Thanks to price cuts since launch, both fall within our Rs. 15,000 budget.
Realme 5 Pro
A more powerful version of the Realme 5, the Realme 5 Pro finds a spot in this list of best mobile phones under Rs. 15,000. The Realme 5 Pro sports a premium design and feels good in hand. The phone’s general performance didn’t disappoint us in our review and the phone zips through day-to-day tasks without any issues.
The phone’s battery is decent, and it lasted 12 hours and 41 minutes in our HD video loop test. On the camera front, Realme 5 Pro has a 48-megapixel primary shooter that takes sharp photos with good colour balance in daylight. The wide-angle camera is average and should only be used in situations when you really need it.
Realme sells three variants of the Realme 5 Pro in the country – 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 64GB, and 8GB + 128GB. The lower two variants are available in this price segment.
Vivo Z1 Pro
Vivo Z1 Pro was the company’s first online-only smartphone and it turned out to be a great phone to hype the company’s online portfolio. The phone sports an eye-catching glossy design with a gradient finish. In our review, we found the Vivo phone to be packing enough power for everyday tasks and the phone didn’t show any sign of lag or slowdowns, even with heavy games.
The Vivo Z1 Pro’s display is sharp and has great viewing angles. Battery life is another area where the Vivo Z1 Pro shines, and it went on for 18 hours and 32 minutes in our HD video loop test.
The smartphone’s triple rear camera setup takes good photos, and our sample shots impressed us with their colours and detail. Low-light imaging performance was also good. Wide-angle pictures taken with the Vivo Z1 Pro, however, came out much less crisp and were over-processed.
Vivo sells the Z1 Pro in three storage variants – 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB – and the lower two are available within this budget.
Samsung Galaxy M30s
Samsung’s Galaxy M-series includes some pretty decent devices, such as the Galaxy M30s. In our review, we found the phone to be packing a good display. The Exynos 9611 SoC is capable of handling everyday tasks with ease.
On the camera front, Samsung Galaxy M30s takes decent shots with average detail but this drops when you switch to the wide-angle camera. Low-light images taken with the smartphone lacked detail and were grainy. The biggest highlight of the smartphone is its 6,000mAh battery that easily lasts for two days of normal usage, making it one of the most interesting phones under Rs. 15,000 in today’s market. It lasted 18 hours and 11 minutes in our HD video loop test.
Samsung Galaxy M30s is offered in 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB variants, however only the 4GB RAM variant is available in this price bracket.
Oppo K1
Oppo K1 was launched earlier this year with a price tag of Rs. 16,990, but thanks to multiple price cuts, it can now be purchased for well under Rs. 15,000, making it a great option for anyone looking to buy a smartphone in this price segment.
In our review, we didn’t have any complaints over the performance of the Oppo K1, and it was able to play heavy games. The phone’s main camera can capture good detail in both close-up and landscape shots, however its low-light performance is average. The in-display fingerprint sensor is another highlight for the phone, as it is one of the few options in this budget to offer this feature.
Oppo K1 lasted for 12 hours and 36 minutes in our HD video loop test. That may not be amazing but it is still decent enough.
The company sells only one configuration of the Oppo K1 in the country, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.
Vivo U20
Vivo decided to get into the online-only game with a few new models in 2019, one of which was the Vivo U20 (Review). This is a relatively powerful offering at a surprisingly low price, and of course the company intends to hit Xiaomi and Realme where it hurts. The Vivo U20 offers a very capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, a 5000mAh battery, three rear cameras, and a 6.53-inch full-HD+ display. It’s a bit bulky and unwieldy. All the features you expect are there, but we would have liked a USB Type-C port rather than the Micro-USB port that Vivo still uses.
An 18W fast charger is included in the box. Vivo’s FunTouch OS is customised heavily and we always say that we wish it wasn’t so confusing for first-time users. All-round performance is good, as expected, and this phone will do well even for gaming. Battery life is also very good, but the cameras were relatively` disappointing.
You can only get this phone with 64GB of storage but there’s a choice between 4GB and 6GB of RAM, and both options are available well within our budget.
Which is the best phone under Rs. 15,000 in India right now? We discussed that on Orbital, our weekly technology podcast, which you can subscribe to via Apple Podcasts or RSS, download the episode, or just hit the play button below.

Nokia 7.2 Review & Unboxing
HMD Global unveiled a host of phones at the IFA 2019 month. While the Nokia 2720 Flip was in the limelight for its nostalgia-inducing flip-phone design, the Nokia 7.2 was the one that captured most of our attention. It is among the first Nokia-branded phones in India to pack three rear cameras, and flaunts a premium new design. The Nokia 7.2 brings numerous meaningful upgrades over its predecessor — the Nokia 7.1 (Review) — in terms of camera hardware, display quality, battery capacity, and processing power. These are all noteworthy, but at a starting price of Rs. 18,599, the new Nokia 7.2 goes up against some very capable new smartphones as well as a few of last year's budget flagships. Is the Nokia 7.2 up to the challenge? Dive right into our review to find out.
Nokia 7.2 design and build quality
The Nokia 7.2 exudes a premium feeling the moment you lay your eyes on it. HMD Global has augmented the metal frame of this phone's predecessor with a new polymer composite that's said to be twice as strong as polycarbonate and twice as light as aluminium. The frame is slightly curved for a comfortable grip. The satin-effect curved Gorilla Glass 3 on the rear feels great to touch, and is not very slippery either. It is also less prone to getting smudged, but that is not to say it is entirely smudge-proof; it's just that the frosted finish does a good job of masking the signs of use. The matte rear panel is slightly reflective if seen from an angle, and it looks really appealing in an understated fashion. On the right side are the volume rocker and the power button, which has an LED embedded into it — akin to the Nokia 3.2 (Review) — to serve as a notification light. This is a neat touch and we hope to see it on more phones. On the left is the triple slot (dual Nano-SIM + microSD) tray and a dedicated Google Assistant button, which unfortunately cannot be customised.
Tumblr media
The 6.2-inch full-HD+ display is bright and produces punchy colours The 3.5mm headphone jack is located at the top, while the speaker and USB Type-C port are at the bottom. HMD Global offers the Nokia 7.2 in two colours in India – Charcoal and Cyan Green – though a silvery Ice version was also shown off internationally. The pristine black finish of the Charcoal variant looks great, but Cyan Green is the colour that truly stands out. The phone is light for its size and feels sturdy, something Nokia-branded phones have cultivated a reputation for. However, there are a few things that we don't like. The Nokia 7.2 is quite a handful at 159.88x75.11x8.25mm, and one-handed usage is difficult. The chin is quite thick, and the circular camera module on the back won't be to everyone's taste, also causing the phone to wobble while lying on a flat surface.
Nokia 7.2 specifications and software
The Nokia 7.2 has a host of major improvements over the Nokia 7.1, especially in the imaging department in the form of a triple rear camera setup with Zeiss Optics. It employs a 48-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.79 aperture – a big upgrade from the 12-megapixel camera on the Nokia 7.1. The main snapper is assisted by an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 118-degree field of view, and there's also a 5-megapixel depth sensor. On the front is a 20-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture, which is again a big jump from the 8-megapixel front snapper on the previous model. The Nokia 7.2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, which is underpowered compared to the Snapdragon 7xx processors found in many other phones in this segment, and even some that cost less, such as the Realme XT (Review) and the Vivo Z1 Pro (Review). HMD Global offers the Nokia 7.2 in two variants – a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model priced at Rs. 18,599, and a higher-end 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant priced at Rs. 19,599. The internal storage on both is expandable by up to 512GB using a microSD card.
Tumblr media
The phone looks appealing and also feels premium in hands This phone packs a 6.3-inch full-HD+ HDR 10-certified display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display has a peak brightness of 500 nits and 1:1500 contrast ratio. The phone is claimed to be capable of upscaling SDR content into HDR in real-time. We found the display to be one of the Nokia 7.2's strongest suits. It is sharp and vivid, with good viewing angles and colour reproduction. The brightness is also adequate and we did not have any issues using it under daylight.HMD Global has secured Widevine L1 DRM certification for the Nokia 7.2, which means you can enjoy high-resolution (HD or above) content on this phone. However, support for HDR content on the Nokia 7.2 is limited to Amazon Prime Video, and is not available for Netflix or even YouTube, at the time of our review. We checked on Netflix's official list of phones that support HDR content on its platform, and found that the Nokia 7.2 is not on it, at least at the time of publishing this review. The phone stays running thanks to a 3,500mAh battery, and it supports 10W charging. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac, and GPS/AGPS. The Nokia 7.2 supports the Qualcomm aptX codec for high-quality audio streaming over Bluetooth. On the software side, the Nokia 7.2 runs stock Android Pie, just like the rest of HMD Global's smartphone offerings. Our review unit was running the September Android security patch. As expected, there is no bloatware and the UI is squeaky clean with only the basic utilities and Google's suite of apps pre-installed.
Tumblr media
Despite the premium aesthetic of the Nokia 7.2, one-handed usage is a little difficult You get all the familiar Android Pie features such as Digital Wellbeing, Adaptive Brightness, and Adaptive Battery. If you're switching from a phone running a custom skin, the clean software interface and the absence of spammy notifications will come as a relief. On the flip side, stock Android misses out on some neat features that the likes of OxygenOS and OneUI offer, such as UI customisation options and the ability to run two instances of some apps.
Nokia 7.2 performance and battery life
The Nokia 7.2 lags behind its competition at the same price in terms of raw performance. Still, the Snapdragon 660 is quite capable and handles day-to-day tasks with ease. Launching and switching between apps was smooth, and there were no stutters during our review. However, performance limitations do become evident when playing graphics-intensive games. We were able to run PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Injustice at medium graphics settings without a hitch, but frame drops were easily visible. On the other hand, other phones at this price level allow these games to run smoothly at higher graphics presets. This shortcoming is evident in benchmarks as well. The Nokia 7.2 scored 328 in Geekbench 5's single-core test, and a modest 1,245 in the multi-core test. In AnTuTu, the phone returned 1,34,286. It managed 13fps and 46fps in GFXBench's Manhattan 3.1 and T-Rex tests respectively.
Tumblr media
It is powered by the Snapdragon 660 SoC, which is underpowered compared to rivals The Nokia 7.2's battery makes up for the underwhelming SoC though. The 3,500mAh battery easily and consistently let us get more than a day of usage. With this phone as a daily driver during our review, we used social media and utility apps, played heavy games for around 90 minutes, enjoyed music using wired headphones for around 3 hours, watched online videos, and browsed the Web. The phone still had around 10-15 percent juice left in its battery at the end of the day.Nokia includes a 10W charger in the retail package, which takes the phone from 0-100 percent in approximately one and a half hours. Charging is a little slow, especially after taking into account the fact that companies such as Realme, Xiaomi, Vivo and even Samsung now bundle 15W or higher capacity chargers with phones priced below the Rs. 20,000 mark. Surprisingly, the Nokia 7.2 only lasted 10 hours and 6 minutes in our HD video battery loop test, which is way below the standard of phones with similar capacity batteries.
Nokia 7.2 cameras
Photos captured by the main 48-megapixel camera were sharp and detailed with good dynamic range, but we noticed that colours were oversaturated, which means if you are looking for natural colours, you'll be slightly disappointed. This was most apparent in pixel-binned 12-megapixel shots taken with the primary camera. Full-resolution 48-megapixel images resolved this issue to some extent and also showed a greater level of detail, but lost out on brightness and contrast which made colours look less vivid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shot using the 48-megapixel main camera on the Nokia 7.2 (Tap to see full-sized camera samples) The results in portrait mode were good as well. Subject detection and separation looked natural most of the time, but there was still some oversaturation. Disappointingly, this phone struggles with adjusting the blur effect intensity after taking shots, and often mistakenly blurs parts of the subject. The fancy portrait effects and the beautification filters in the portrait editor can leave photos downright unusable.Photos taken in low light were underwhelming, lacking detail and having a lot of noise. The dedicated Night Mode was also a disappointment, as it did little to bring out actual colours. It brightens the frame and resolves a few objects in the final image that were otherwise less discernible, but does little to boost sharpness and vibrancy.

Tumblr media
Low-light photo captured with Night Mode on Nokia 7.2 (Tap to see full-sized camera sample) The Nokia 7.2 captures macros with a healthy amount of surface detail and good contrast. We saw some bleeding around the edges of objects in focus is visible, but the overall image quality was impressive. We noticed that while capturing close-up shots, the phone occasionally struggled with locking the focus. The Nokia 7.2's wide-angle camera comes in handy for capturing more in one frame. The sensor produced crisp images with decent dynamic range, but on zooming in, we could see some fuzziness. Another issue was the colour tone. The images captured by the wide-angle camera had a distinctly colder tone when compared to shots of the same subject taken by the main camera. Thankfully, distortion was kept to a minimum.
Tumblr media
Shot using the 48-megapixel main camera on the Nokia 7.2 (Tap to see full-sized camera samples)
Tumblr media
Shot using the 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera on the Nokia 7.2 (Tap to see full-sized images) As for selfies, the 20-megapixel snapper takes sharp photos under natural light and does a good job at preserving skin complexions and textures. Even minute details such as facial hair are preserved to a good extent. However, portrait selfies have an issue with edge detection, and things like a pair of glasses or sometimes even ears were also blurred, which was frustrating.Indoor selfies turned out better than those taken by many other phones that we have tested in this price range. The colours look natural and there is minimal skin smoothening. However, low-light selfies looked over-sharpened with grainy texture.
Tumblr media
Portrait selfies are well-lit, but edge detection is inaccurate (Tap to see full-sized camera sample)
Tumblr media
Low-light selfies lack detail and have grainy texture (Tap to see full-sized camera sample) The Nokia 7.2 can shoot videos at up to 4K 30fps. Full-HD videos (capped at 30fps as well) exhibited good detail, and but still had oversaturated colours and struggled with locking focus. Thankfully, stabilisation was decent. We noticed a strange flickering effect in 360-degree videos shot under daylight. The quality of 4K videos shot by the Nokia 7.2 is better than what a lot of other phones priced under Rs. 20,000 can manage. 4K clips came out well lit and sharp, with decent colour reproduction, but they are a little shakier compared to the full-HD videos. The ring-like interface of the Pro mode is quite intuitive, making it easy to adjust parameters such as white balance, shutter speed, and ISO. We do have a few gripes with the camera app. First, you can't switch to the wide-angle camera while recording a video. Also, we noticed that the camera app often took around 2-3 seconds to process a portrait mode photo, rendering the shutter button unusable for that duration.VerdictThe Nokia 7.2 is a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor, adding a faster processor, more capable cameras, and a new design language that is quite appealing. The phone's display is quite good, and its day-to-day performance is dependable. The cameras of the Nokia 7.2 are decent, but not the best in the segment. As for battery life, this phone can last easily last a day.Starting at Rs. 18,599, the Nokia 7.2 offers hardware that seems like it should have been in a phone launched late last year. It is still a decent proposition for its price, but the competition has more to offer in terms of power. If you are swayed by stock Android and the Nokia brand name, and also don't care much about gaming, you can go for this phone. It's worth considering that there are older budget flagships such as the Poco F1 (Review) and Asus 5Z (Review) going for less than the Nokia 7.2's asking price during sales, and newer mid-range phones including the Realme X (Review), Vivo Z1x (Review), Redmi Note 7 Pro (Review), and Realme XT (Review) offer more competitive specifications. For a slight premium, the Redmi K20 (Review) offers a better package on all parameters. Source link Read the full article

New Post Vivo S1 Review: A Rock Solid Phone At A Budget Price has been published on https://www.reviewcenter.in/9279/vivo-s1-review-a-rock-solid-phone-at-a-budget-price/
Vivo S1 Review: A Rock Solid Phone At A Budget Price
Just last month, Vivo launched the Vivo Z1 Pro in India. The Vivo Z1 Pro was one of the finest phones under Rs. 14,999. Vivo hasn’t stopped there. The company has launched the all-new Vivo S1, which is now another hot smartphone under Rs. 20,000. I didn’t expect it to be priced under Rs. 20,000, once again but I’m glad that Vivo kept the price low while providing the best possible hardware at this price. I got to try the new Vivo S1 for quite some time and today, I will be sharing my experience with the phone in the full review of Vivo S1.
The Vivo S1 is one of those phones that come with a triple camera setup on the back but is priced quite reasonably as in terms of CPU as well, there is no compromise as the phone comes with MediaTek’s Helio P65 chipset.
Vivo S1 Smartphone Review
Look & Feel
Every phone from Vivo definitely looks better than its competitors. The Vivo S1 carries the legacy forward. The phone features a 6.38-inch AMOLED display with a tiny dewdrop-style notch at the top. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner, making it one of those affordable phones that offer quite a bit of futuristic tech. The bezels are minimum on either side of the display, but it’s a bit thicker at the bottom.
On the back, there is the triple camera setup and flash. The camera module is protected by a tiny metal ring going around. The SIM card trays and volume rockers are at the edge of the phone, on the left and right side respectively. There is also a Google Assistant button, just like the one we saw on Vivo Z1 Pro. It’s a handy little button to summon Google Assistant easily. At the bottom of the phone, there is the micro-USB port, which is a bit disappointing. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and the loudspeaker at the bottom.
The Vivo S1 is available in two color- Diamond Black and Skyline Blue. The phone has a laminate back with a striking diamond pattern design as well as a gradient color finish. When light strikes the back of the phone, the diamond patterns emerge and well, it looks beautiful. And well, sometimes the phone gets fingerprints quite easily. But overall, the Vivo S1 is one of the most beautiful looking phones under Rs. 20,000. Also, despite the phone packs a big battery, it doesn’t feel too heavy in hand. The back of the phone, despite being very shinny isn’t a fingerprint magnet, but well, sometimes occasional wiping helps in removing a few fingerprints accumulated on the surface.
Display
The Vivo S1 features a 6.38-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, with a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a dewdrop notch, resulting in 90% screen-to-body-ratio. There is Schott Xensation 3D protection instead of Gorilla Glass. Vivo had claimed that it’s as good as Gorilla Glass protection and well, during my usage, the screen didn’t get any scratches. However, I won’t recommend that you keep the phone in your pocket along with objects like keys.
In terms of brightness, the screen is adequate but not the brightest I would say. The sharpness levels are great and viewing angles are fine, but sometimes, during the time when I used the phone under harsh summer sunlight of Delhi, I had to manually crank up the brightness to full for the best viewing experience. The display has nice contrast and saturation levels are good. The good contrast ratio is obviously expected but I was a bit surprised at the perfect saturation levels that makes everything look natural, rather than hyper-saturated extra punchy colours. The Vivo S1 doesn’t come with the Widevine L1 support out of the box, but the same will be provided by the end of this month. Also, the in-display fingerprint scanner is something futuristic at a nominal price I would say. It is fast enough and accurate, just that those who will switch to the phone from any other old phone that uses a conventional scanner, will have to get adjusted to it a bit.
Camera
The Vivo S1 has a triple camera setup on the back. On the back, there is a primary 16-megapixel sensor, accompanied by an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait shots.
The phone clicks nice pictures in broad daylight. There is a good amount of detail and sharpness, the colours look natural. But, well the AI sometimes softens the pictures a bit more than required. In low lighting conditions as well, the Vivo S1 clicks quite good pictures, but some noise levels can be seen.
The 8-megapixel wide-angle camera is something that I love more than the main camera, the wide-angle shots look great in my opinion and I have probably clicked more wide-angle photos than regular ones. The depth sensor seems to work well for portraits, the bokeh is quite natural, but the edge detection could be a bit better. I hope Vivo will improve the same with software updates.
In terms of selfies, the Vivo S1 clicks nice selfies with a good amount of details when there is ample light. In the selfies taken with the front-facing camera in portrait mode also, the bokeh is good and the photos are Instagrammable!
Performance
The Vivo S1 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P65 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM and Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The Helio P65 is an octa-core chipset with the highest clock speeds of up to 2.0 GHz. The chipset is as good in real life, as it is on paper. I use my phone for mainly social media, watching some movies and videos and gaming. During regular tasks like browsing the web, using social media I didn’t feel any lag. Everything runs smoothly, multitasking experience is great.
Even while gaming, the phone didn’t disappoint me at all. I kinda play heavy games like PUBG. While playing PUBG, sometimes, here and there, minor lags are visible but apart from it, the phone does handle everything well.
Software
The Vivo S1 runs FunTouch 9 OS based on Android 9.0 Pie. The OS is full of very useful features for sure, but it’s not the smoothest skin out there. Gestures work fine, dark mode is good as well but the look and feel aren’t that great, to be honest. There are quite a few pre-installed apps, however, I could get rid of them quite easily. There are features like Ultra Game Mode which brings features like sound localization, countdown floating window, e-sport mode as well as it just mutes all kind of notifications for the uninterrupted gaming experience.
Battery
The Vivo S1 packs a 4500mAh battery, which is bigger than that of most phones in this price segment, apart from the phones by ASUS. The 4500mAh battery can easily last for two days with moderate usage. I’m a heavy user, but even after playing games, streaming Sacred Games and intense use, the phone easily lasted a full day. The 18W fast charging worked well when I needed some quick juice and the charging speed is quite impressive as the phone took just a little more than an hour to get charged from 0-100%.
Final Verdict
You need to evaluate your priorities before buying this phone. The phone looks good and stylish. It has a great display, good battery life. The blue one looks really good. The phone is capable of handling day-to-day task easily although the gaming performance could have been better. Vivo S1 is a capable phone and will please the user demands from day-to-day although if I had to buy one, I would prefer buying Vivo Z1X or the Vivo Z1 Pro.

iQOO 3 Pro with Snapdragon 865+: specifications and prices are leaked
iQOO 3 Pro with Snapdragon 865+: specifications and prices are leaked
Over the past few months, the Chinese company has launched the new model 3, followed by the Neo variant and the Z1. In short, the Vivo range certainly was not with our hands, presenting a whole series of devices to which should also be added iQOO 3 Pro, the version already protagonist of some previous rumors. And now a new leak reveals practically everything about the smartphone, between data…

iQOO Z1 Smartphone continues the genes of iQOO’s powerful and endless exploration. The core highlight is still performance. From the configuration point of view. The world’s first Dimensity 1000Plus processor, 144hz racing screen, e-sports-level game optimization, 4500mAh + 44W battery life combination, etc., each of which has no small appeal to young consumers. Dimensity 1000Plus as a flagship new “core”, I believe everyone is just like me, very curious about its actual performance. The next time, hand over to iQOO Z1.
iQOO Z1 Design & Appearance
Punch holes and matrix are two major trends this year. The iQOO Z1 uses a 6.57-inch single-hole full screen with a resolution of 2408 × 1080 on the front, with a screen ratio of 90.4%. 98% sRGB, P3 color gamut, and HDR 10 and other configurations bring a good display effect.
More importantly, the refresh rate of this screen reaches the industry-leading 144Hz. Compared with ordinary 60Hz, 144Hz not only doubles the visual effect but also has more chirality. Nowadays, in daily use, the difference between flagship and mid-range processors is hard to detect, but the high refresh rate and normal refresh rate are clear at a glance.
Since the screen material is LCD, iQOO Z1 adopts side fingerprint design, taking into account both practicality and design aesthetics. In order not to affect the overall sense of the side, the width of the fingerprint module is very narrow, but this does not affect its recognition speed. It is unlocked almost at the touch, which has a considerable advantage over screen fingerprints.
High performance is easily associated with sci-fi, and sci-fi’s most suitable image is space. This time iQOO Z1 brought two science fiction color schemes-Galaxy Silver and Space Blue, which fixed the magnificence of space on the mobile phone. The mid-frame of the Galaxy Silver color scheme in my hand is designed with full silver, and the back is a gradient from top to bottom silver to light blue, much like a cosmic cube with space gems.
#gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
In the upper left corner, the iQOO Z1 is equipped with a single row of three shots, but due to the large width of the camera area, it is still visually a matrix effect. Although this design is not a feature, I personally think it is more attractive. In general, many elements of the iQOO Z1 exterior design are old friends. Next, it is a unique part of iQOO Z1.
Dimensity 1000+
When it comes to MediaTek, there must be someone who wants to skip it. However, from the perspective of several recent 5G new products. Some old stereotypes can be lost. Whether it is Dimensity 1000L or Dimensity 800, the performance is remarkable. After the success of the two mid-range chips, MediaTek set its sights on the flagship market. The Dimensity 1000Plus on the iQOO Z1 is MediaTek’s first show in the 5G flagship market.
Dimensity 1000Plus is built on the 7nm process, the CPU uses 4 large core + 4 small core architecture. Including 4 2.6GHz Cortex-A77 large cores. 4 2.0GHz Cortex-A55 small cores, performance improvement compared to the previous generation 20%. GPU is 9-core Mali-G77, which is 40% better than G76. For 5G. Dimensity 1000Plus not only supports SA, NSA dual-mode but also supports 5G + 5G dual card dual standby. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is a new generation 5G platform.
(Dual card dual 5G)
It can be seen that the iQOO Z1 has achieved good results on the Antutu and GeekBench 5 platforms. Both the CPU and GPU performance are close to the Snapdragon 865. Since the storage combination of iQOO Z1 is UFS2.1 + LPDDR4x. The storage score has not reached the top level, but it is considered to be an excellent level.
Overall, iQOO Z1’s running scores have entered the flagship echelon. But the most important performance is not running points, but the actual experience.
iQOO Z1 Performance
In the 90-frame mode of “Peace Elite”, the average frame rate of iQOO Z1 reaches 89.9. And the whole process runs close to full-frame. The actual experience is very good. During the test. The eight cores of the CPU were always online. And the crowd came to an end. In addition to the processor. Factors that affect game performance include software algorithms, heat dissipation, and so on.
In terms of software, iQOO Z1 is equipped with Multi-Turbo3.5 multi-turbo acceleration technology. Which optimizes intelligent distribution of computing power by lifting layers. While improving game performance and frame rate stability. AI intelligent diagnosis system abnormalities and rapid repair will affect To a minimum.
In terms of heat dissipation, iQOO Z1 has a built-in super liquid-cooled heat dissipation system, consisting of graphite heat dissipation film, 85mm extra-long heat pipe, and curable thermally conductive gel. A total of 11 layers of heat dissipation elements cover the main heat sources such as processors and power management chips The temperature is reduced by up to 10 ° C.
After about 25 minutes of “Peace Elite”. The maximum temperature of the front and back of the mobile phone is 39.5 ℃ and 42 ℃, respectively. Which is the ordinary level of the current flagship phone? It is hot but not hot.
According to the comprehensive test of running points, frame rate, and heat dissipation. The performance of iQOO Z1 has reached the standard. But for iQOO pursuing the ultimate gaming experience, this is far from enough.
Gaming experience
For competitive games, sometimes the most important thing is not the image quality. But the Internet. The anxiety caused by the red signal status icon is more unbearable than ever. In order to solve this pain point, iQOO Z1 is equipped with an omnidirectional antenna system. And intelligent NR multi-antenna switching. Which automatically switches the antenna according to the holding gesture to ensure stable data transmission. Technologies such as HPUE, 4×4 MIMO multiple antennas. And zero-sense network switching is beneficial to enhance signal strength. And reduce the probability of dropped calls in mobile scenarios such as buses and subways.
Many mobile phones today have a choice between 3.5mm headphone jacks, but this year all iQOO models will remain without hesitation, including today’s Z1. With the headphone jack, we can feel the thrill of zero delays, and we don’t need to grab a position with the data interface. In addition, iQOO Z1 is also equipped with two built-in super-linear speakers, each of which is equipped with a smart power amplifier chip to form an equivalent 1.05cc large sound cavity, achieving both sound quality and stereo. Without headphones, you can easily listen to the sound to identify the position.
In terms of software, the previously highly acclaimed game box function is now further upgraded. The newly added Pioneer Co-creation section will provide some innovative functions and gameplay. The first two functions introduced on the shelves are one-click recording and voice control. The former can record wonderful game clips through the floating window. While the latter uses the voice mapping screen to click so that the thumb is no longer busy.
In addition, the game countdown function can display a floating window during the waiting time of the hero’s resurrection and chicken started. Not only can you make full use of the time of the debris. But you can also accurately return to the “battlefield”. As for the features such as Do Not Disturb, On-hook Mode. And Floating Window, it is already common, so I wo n’t introduce it here.
Battery life and charging
4500mAh large battery, 44W ultra-fast flash charge, 7nm processor. Dimensity UltraSave power-saving technology. Vivo VEG energy guard technology-each of the items listed here are born to relieve power anxiety. How effective is that?
In the scenario of enabling 5G, 144Hz, and connecting to WiFi. The power consumption of iQOO Z1 for eight hours of standby. One hour of online video, one hour of Douyin Weibo, and half an hour of “Peace Elite” is 3%, 8%, 7%, and 12%. It is not difficult to see that the iQOO Z1 has excellent power consumption in low-load scenarios. But it is quite satisfactory in high-load scenarios. You do n’t need to worry about electricity when you go out. If the power is in short supply, you can temporarily switch to 90Hz to take into account both smoothness and power saving.
With the support of 44W ultra-fast flash charging. iQOO Z1 can charge 50% of the power in only 23 minutes. So in terms of battery life and charging. iQOO Z1 can give users a sense of security.

iQOO Z1 Cameras
The iQOO Z1 has three rear cameras, a 48-megapixel main camera. A 112 ° ultra-wide angle, and a macro lens.
As the most commonly used lens, the imaging performance of the main camera is satisfactory. With the help of the Hyper-HDR algorithm. The dynamic range in high-contrast scenes gave the author a big surprise.
In contrast, super wide-angle lenses and macro lenses perform generally. However, the two lenses are more important, providing a unique shooting angle. Which brings more possibilities for creation.
From the above proofs, iQOO Z1’s camera can meet the basic daily needs. But there is still a certain gap compared to the flagship. However, considering the positioning of this phone, the gaming experience is the first place. And taking pictures can achieve the standard.
Verdict
