this is not a full fic! this is the text-post version of the letter photos from my fic over on my main blog @vivalas-vega that you can read here

Dear Raven,

My name is Jake Seresin, but you probably know me best as Hangman, and while introductions are important I’m sure you couldn’t care less about who I am and just want to know why I’m writing you a letter. I don’t blame you, I don’t really know why I am either but I felt compelled to after a mishap with the mail out here. Your last letter to Rooster ended up on my pillow, and in my haste to open it I assumed it was just from my mom. I wish I could tell you I didn’t read it after I realized my mistake, but unfortunately that is not what happened. I read the entire thing.

I found it to be very compelling, and it really made me laugh at times which is why it was so hard to put down, not that flattery is going to correct this massive invasion of your privacy. I wanted to write you to apologize, I’m trying to be less of a dick and this seemed like something someone would do if they weren’t a dick. How am I doing so far? Anyways, I’m very sorry for reading something you only intended to be seen by one person. Super uncool of me.

Now that that’s out of the way, I have some thoughts on what I read. This Matthew guy sounds like a real tool and I’m never inclined to agree with Rooster, something you probably already know if he’s ever mentioned me, but unfortunately, I have to agree with him. Hotshot doctors are always douchebags and definitely a waste of your time. However, just because he was right doesn't mean you were wrong. I hope he doesn’t give you too much grief about not listening to him because the only person in the wrong here is Matthew. The whole thing sounds like something right out of a bad sitcom and I’m sorry you had to go through that.

This will probably mean a lot more to you coming from Rooster but I feel I need to say it anyway: you deserve better than someone like him and I am proud you held your tongue. I don’t think I could do the same in your position. Throwing your wine in his face would have been nice though, doctors are always so particular about their fancy expensive shirts, I think the wine would have complimented it nicely. Is dating in New York really that bad? Your comment about rom coms made me realize I did kind of envision it as the perfect place to fall in love. Commercial romance propaganda worked on me, I guess. But when I really think about it, all those people on one island all chasing big dreams seems like the perfect storm for some hearts to get broken. I’m sorry yours had to be one of them. Maybe you could tell me more about New York if you’re not too pissed about the whole invasion of privacy thing, I never got the draw but there must be one if so many people live there.

I didn’t realize you’d known Bradley long enough to know his mom – I didn’t really realize how close the two of you were at all. He’s very protective about the people he loves, which I’m sure you know, so it makes sense he hasn’t mentioned you much to me. I have a bit of a reputation on base that I’m hoping you don’t already know about otherwise this whole letter thing is going to seem a whole lot worse. Really all he’s ever told me is that you’re good friends and that you don’t live close. I know now from unintentionally snooping that you’re a writer who lives in New York and likes Star Wars. Side note, if you ever meet the rest of the squad, don’t mention that to Fanboy unless you want to be stuck in a conversation about it for hours.

I’m really bad at this whole letter thing and I feel bad I don’t have cool paper like you guys. Like I said I thought yours was from my mom when I saw it on my pillow. She sends me one or two every deployment and I always respond with the bare minimum – I can’t tell her much about what I do, legally as well as just in general. She worries and the one time I let something slip she cried for much longer than I’d like to admit. I wouldn’t mind getting one from you that was actually meant for me, though. I wasn’t just trying to flatter you, it was really compelling to read and things can get pretty bleak out here.

If I found out someone had read a letter about my breakup meant only for my best friend I’d be pretty embarrassed, which you don’t need to be, but in the interest of fairness I’m going to share an embarrassing story with you. When I was in high school I was pansted by the captain of the soccer team in the dead of winter… I’m from Texas so people don’t assume it gets very cold there, and they’d be right, but that particular year we had an unseasonably cold winter. Whatever you’re thinking happened, aka the worst thing a growing boy can go through, I promise happened. I’ve never shared that story with anyone, for obvious reasons, and it still follows me to this day every time I go home.

I hope that makes us even, and again I’m really sorry for reading your letter. I hope the anniversary party went well and that any drama didn’t include you (but I do really hope there was drama, I love hearing about scandals involving people I’ve never met). If you ignore this letter and tell Rooster what a jackass I am I wouldn’t blame you in the slightest, but if you want to respond I definitely wouldn’t mind that either.

Hello Everyone,

Life has been one dumpster fire after another. I am currently working on my dissertation and applying to internships and yesterday I got in a car accident (I am fine, and so is the other driver).

I promise I have not stopped writing, things have just had to take a bit of a backseat. I am currently working on a JJ request from @sabrina-carpenter-stan-account that I am loving, I am also working on wrapping up Life as We Know It, Lavender Girl part 2, and a few shorter things that I can't wait to share with you!

Thank you for all the support I have gotten on my writing thus far. It has meant the world & I love you all!
