oh hey, if anyone wants to read my vitodyne post-canon fic i’ve put the first chapter up. it’s here. i get hung up on kudos/hits ratios a lot so i didn’t post it at first but i wanna share it

thinking about vitodyne tonight. they’re just so beautifully complex. i designed vito to be an emotionally complicated character; cdpr said “hold my beer�� and gave us kerry eurodyne.

there’s something so beautiful in two people who are afraid to love again finding themselves letting their guard down around one another. two people who don’t quite fit into the world feeling like they’ve found their place when they’re in each other’s company. two people who have both loved and lost; who are afraid of it happening again; the strength of those bonds is something to be admired.

the complexity in all of the layers that don’t make sense on their own but seem to be comprehensible when together.

gonna dump about vitodyne a little… cuz i’m thinking about them rn

vito and kerry are both very similar in that they don’t really like to share vulnerabilities; kerry masks his with sarcasm/snark while vito masks his with stoicism. yet somehow they find themselves being vulnerable with each other. that’s something beautiful but unfamiliar; they feel so safe with one another and yet so, so lost.

in my post-game AU, since vito survived via the engram replacement, he struggles a lot with his own mortality. he has existential crises more than he’d care to admit, struggling with the idea that his soul really was killed—and this provokes a new kind of gentleness from kerry… kerry will take vito’s hand and lay it over vito’s chest.

“you feel that?” kerry will ask, staring into vito’s eyes as he waits.

“yeah,” vito will say.

“your heartbeat, vito. yours. you’re alive, yeah?”

they’ll fumble with the words a bit. neither of them are very good at being poetic. but vito will understand, and he will simply melt into kerry’s embrace, the rhythm of their hearts in sync reminding him of his love and his life.

vito has the tendency to tug on his hair when he’s panicked or stressed. kerry learns this quickly and whenever vito begins to have an attack, kerry will softly hold vito’s wrists to keep him from pulling his hair. wordless displays of affection and care.

and vito reciprocates this; he protects kerry in more ways than one. protects kerry from media vultures, sure, but also from himself. because vito knows what it’s like to be your own worst enemy. he devotes himself to supporting kerry; he will stay awake with him late into the night while kerry works on music. he’ll take kerry out onto the porch and say:

“the air is nice here. it’s almost like we’re looking at the city from the outside…”

then, he’ll look up at kerry and say, “we did it, ker. we didn’t let the city swallow us whole.”

and kerry knows what vito is really saying; “we’re stronger than them, ker. together.”

kerry will take vito’s hand in his own, and realize that he’s truly… peaceful. happiness comes and goes—but the peace of laying his regrets to rest and starting anew with someone who loves him as much as he loves them, that never leaves.

and they will face the changes together. they will heal together.

i post almost exclusively about mShep when it comes to mass effect (or at least posts involving shepard). i'm very attached to default shep (sorry, calling him sheploo makes me laugh), it's rare that i'll talk about custom shepards.

my hyperfixations swing around a lot so what you see is what you get. for now.

i have had an ending rewrite of cyberpunk in the works for a while. most of it is still just chilling in my brain but i needed to write vitodyne their happy ending or else i’d need to get a higher dose of antidepressants

curious, though: did y’all accept one of the canon endings as an ending for your v? did you take one and alter it (which is what i’m doing)? or did you say “fuck you” and ignore the endings altogether?
