Hughie eyes nervously flit between the flames and the man who'd created them, as though he expects him to set him on fire. It's a weird hobby to have, but then he wonders if perhaps he would set everything on fire if he had the powers to do so. He's beginning to think that reaching out and trying to find vampires to make friends with wasn't the best idea.

"Do you always set stuff on fire fun or... Do you have like a playstation or something?"

she has been very polite listening to his whole explanation, (mostly because he gets all huffy when she doesn’t), and she can finally open her mouth. “okay, that all sounds good but… why didn’t you include me setting something on fire?” she’s a woman of many skills, but what can she say? she’s been in a mood.

He shouldn't be doing this; he shouldn't be pulling this kid into this whole mess. And the way his knuckles blanche as he grips the steering wheel of his old truck is an indicator that he knows this, and that it's tearing him up inside.

But what choice does he have, really?

The cops wouldn't give a shit even if he did trust them with this; even if a good chunk of them are directly in Osborn's pocket; even if he didn't have to worry about the masochistic billionaire going after Gabriela to shut him up.; even if, legally and literally, he would be buried if anything ever came out in the mainstream media

"You know you don't have to do this, right kid?" Rafael asks, staring straight ahead through the windshield, his tattooed neck noticeably tensed. "You didn't know James. And he-- Fuck, he's not gonna be happy about me dragging you along for this."

Rafa laughs a little at the thought: James chewing his ass about having Burns along to help get things done quicker while the three of them make their escape. The sound is unnatural and quickly choked out by more sobering emotions.

"Osborn. He's-- He's a bad guy." His hands flex on the steering wheel, then one drops down to touch the party favor Oscorp had given him in exchange for his NDA. He knocks his knuckles against the metallic prosthesis. "But he's real good at making people think he's not. He does charities and scholarships and green energy and legitimate medical research too."

Sighing, he loosens up a little. Just a little.

"I don't want the people working on stuff like that to get hurt, okay? Even if they're working for him, they probably don't know who he really is. We gotta be smart about what we do."

"Whoaaa!" Art flings their head back, gaze flying up. "Fuck, man!" They slap their hand over their eyes. "Do what you want, but I can't see you do it. If I see it, they see it." To someone Burns can't see: "No, I'm not obstructing anything. There's something in my eyes."

Finally someone who gets it! Phones are government embed spies - it's a fact lot of people are aware of, but choose to be ignorant about. Burns is talking about phones, right? Toby is a bit doubful in the back of her mind. Not enough to be quiet.

Discomfited, Taiga's face blanks when he hears what Burns has to say, and he flinches back a step. He does not want to be seen as a god; he does not want to be deified. Honestly, more than half the time? He doesn't want to be seen at all. The feeling of eyes on him--even nonphysical eyes--gets to be a little much sometimes.

And to think of the pleading he hears from lost souls who seek rest and release as prayer directed toward him unnerves him. He knows so little of what he is doing, in any facet of his life.

Taiga is just some guy. Lost in the throes of his own life, he is no shepherd.

He tries to smile, but it's a hollow and placating thing, and his head dips low to avoid looking at Burns as even that peters out.

"That sounds like too much responsibility for me," he says in what he hopes sounds like at least half of a joke. "I can't even keep a goldfish alive."

Well, maybe that's not relevant. It's not like he'd be a god of Life, after all.

"oh, EW. what the fuck." she sounds way too calm for something like that, doesn't she? too many candles in this stupid shop. or perhaps the more obvious answer, but marianne can't bring herself to really care about it. raises her sleeve, eyes the small flame near her elbow. hand carelessly and absently smacks and pats it away until all that's left is some burnt fabric. "you do that, or was that genuinely me. we're not good enough friends you to like, reenact the salem witch trials on me. we aren't friends at all, really."

what they look like : The first word that comes to mind when looking at Bella is unassuming, followed relatively closely by soft. She's a petite, blonde, waif of a thing - made more pronounced by the pastel colours she favours or the oversize sweaters she drowns in. If you meet Bella when she's feeding, though, she looks sharper. Skimpier clothes, dark colours, feet strapped into heels - but all of this serves a purpose in drawing eyes. She rarely, if ever, wears makeup, since she can't check it in a mirror, and often favours her hair lose or in a half-up type style.

what they smell like : She doesn't wear a lot of perfume, especially not anything that smells super strongly. Typically, she won't smell like much at all - the vague rose scent of her shampoo or bodywash, or the light scent from her washing detergent. Those with a keen nose might be able to smell something off about her though. A sort of staleness about her.

what they taste like : If we're talking about another vampire's perspective, she would just taste stale. Sure, the blood gets replenished every time she feeds, but it's still not fresh like it would be if she was pumping her own. If we're talking about kissing, then Bella favours a honey-flavoured lip balm that she applies pretty religiously (she has to order it specially from Japan).

what they sound like : Bella has a pretty light voice. Her accent leans towards the posher end of the spectrum, from spending a good deal of time married into British high society, but since coming to the states it has mellowed out some. Her base accent, or original accent from when she was human, is more typical to the northern end of England though she's pretty much trained herself out of it now.

what they feel like : The first thing someone would feel is cold. Bella's skin doesn't hold any heat, and so she wears all of that oversized clothing mostly so people can't accidentally brush against her. She's also smooth - aside from the puncture scar on one side of her throat and the burn scar on the other shoulder, Bella's skin is completely unmarked and looks unnaturally perfect. Like someone's airbrushed a real-life person.
