little snippet from here !! small idea i had and am considering fleshing out someday ^-^

"hey, hey, hey," neil said as he immediately knelt down in front of you so he could be at your eye level. he felt awkward, obviously never have been in this kind of situation before, but he wasn't going to just up and leave. how could he? he still cared about you a lot, and he knows it must be scary (of course he knows it's scary, he felt his soul leave his body when you told him) but especially for you.

awkwardly, he placed his hand on you shoulder and you momentarily ceased your crying to look at him. your eyes were red and it hurt him to see you this panicked. why? he didn't know, he didn't even know you for very long.

"i'm...not going anywhere." he said. few seconds of silence followed and he decided to go again, "i'm not going to go anywhere." he said again, a bit more confidently.

"we... we did this together," neil said, not knowing if they were exactly the right words to use but he didn't know how else to explain it, "we got into this together." you chuckled lightly, he was such a dork. "so i'm going to be here with you every step of the way."

"really?" you asked, sniffling. he cracked a small smile and his hand on your shoulder moved to pet your head, "yeah. yeah, i am. anything you need me for."

neil walked into the store but didn't realize he was even in the store to begin with until jonathan spoke up.

"are you ok?" he asked, snapping neil back to reality.

"huh? oh, yeah...." he replied, albeit puzzled.

"how'd your meeting with y/n go?" lucien asked as he picked up another tape and returned it to the proper shelf. "are you going out again?"

"um..." neil said, "yeah, kinda i think? but also uh..." man, fuck it. "we're also gonna have a baby together."

the store went silent, and then;

"what?"

therapist!jonathan crane who only really agreed to tend to you as your therapist as a favour to your parents.

therapist!jonathan crane who was a little perplexed with your slight paranoia of everyone around you, but after a few sessions, he started to get ideas.

therapist!jonathan crane who, after finally gaining your trust, eventually starts to slowly twist his words around to mean the exact opposite of what he was trying to help you with.

"but then again, are they really worth it?" he'd ask.

"sounds to me like your brain is subconsciously trying to tell you something," he'd continue 'worriedly' as he looked at you, "especially if you're feeling this uneasy about them. best to trust your gut."

you'd be surprised. then ask; "a-are you sure?"

he'd smile and say; "y/n, all i want is to help you."

your small and slow progress of being more comfortable around other people would slowly start to deteriorate are the only person you'd start to really trust is therapist!jonathan crane, your therapist who wants nothing more than to help you!

he's definitely helping you when you're crying about an argument you had with your parents about why you were starting to be even more standoffish, and he'd be the one comforting you.

he's definitely helping you when you feel hesitant about your decision to cut people off (which he slowly over the sessions indirectly planted the idea in your mind), and he's reassuring you that it's for the best.

he's definitely helping you when he starts to sit a little closer than before, and he starts to whisper sweet reassuring nothings in your ear.

& he's definitely helping you when it becomes a habit of his to start resting his hand on your thigh <3

small thought that's been on the back of my mind bc i love reading everyone's fic of him :>> he is so aRGWHEHRHRH but anyway yes lil self indulgent thing tonight b4 bed <33 might flesh this out eventually but meheheh

✧ notes: this. that's literally it🫶 also below the cut id the actual reunion between you two, the first part is kinda weird but it's only bc i wanted to put some context TT u can skip to below the cut if u want ! also not proofread since i wrote this while writing a college essay TT

"It's okay, Peggy." You say as you walked with your friend and her daughter through the crowd of people. "I'm sure it's going to be alright."

"I hope so." She replies, nervously.

You and her have been friends for a long time. Both of yours husbands are childhood friends, so of course this also meant you two being acquainted and forming a friendship. A few months ago, both of then were handpicked to be first and second mate for the voyage of the Essex. A little while back, you both received the news that the ship had been either lost at sea or sank of whatnot, all you both (and what they) knew was that the ship and the crew were nowhere to be found.

Obviously, you two were devastated, but Peggy was pregnant and you needed to find things to calm you down and distract you during this whole thing, so you were helping around at her house and all, spending time with Phoebe Ann, her daughter.

This morning, however, you both were contacted by the Maritime office that survivors of the Essex had made it back to Nantucket in nothing more than a few boats and your husbands were both survivors, so here you both were, at Nantucket Harbour, waiting.

As Phoebe Ann was holding the hands of both his mother and you, you kept hold of hers when you saw Owen approaching his family. Peggy let go of her daughter temporarily as she flung her arms around her husband as they reunited.

"Y/N." Owen greeted and you let go of Phoebe Ann to hug him. "Glad to see you still up and running." You joke, but you were really glad to see him.

"Matthew, is he...?" You didn't know how to finish your question but Owen just smiled at you. "He was right behind me earlier."

When his attention shifted to his daughter and Peggy, you walked away from them and your eyes searched the crowd. There were dozens of people at the harbour, all crowding around to see the survivors of the lost ship Essex, so it was a little difficult to push past them for a bit.

But when blue eyes met yours, you felt everyone blur around you as all noise faded into nothing.

There he stood.

He had nothing in his hands, as the small possessions he brought onboard were lost in the sea, but he would have dropped anything he was holding when he saw you.

He made his way to you and at first, it was silent. You didn't know what first to say and he seemed to be at a loss for words as well. Your eyes scanned his face for a moment and you swallowed before speaking up.

"It's really you?" You ask, your hands cupping his cheek as your fingers ghost over his face, not quite believing your eyes.

He was here.

"It's really me." He smiles as he places his hand over yours and moves his face to kiss your other one.

Matthew was here.

Standing in front of you. His hair was definitely longer (although not quite as long, since you noticed him and Owen were pretty cleaned up best they could before they were here) and he looked a little disheveled, but none of it matterer. His eyes scanned over your face, like he was seeing you again for the very first time. He took in everything about you — your eyes, the way your hair was styled, the dress you wore that was one of your more simpler dresses but he always thought you looked stunning in, and the necklace he gave you that you never once took off when he left.

"I told you I'd come back, right?" He asked softly, to which you chuckled lightly, tears streaming down your face.

"You did." You replied, "And you're not going out there for a little bit for a while, okay?" You joked.

He laughed lightly and then slowly engulfed you in another hug, his one arm wrapping itself around your back as he brought his other to hug your head, patting you softly. He kissed your forehead, "I'm not going anywhere for a little bit."

You hugged him back and you felt you never wanted to let him go. You opened your eyes and they met with Owen's, who wasn't that far away from you two with his own family, and you saw him smiling at you.

"Thank you." You mouthed to him as he stood up and held his daughter's hand for the first time as he nodded his head at you.
