The Digital Twin Advantage
Digital twins are virtual replicas that mimic the behavior and characteristics of their physical counterparts. By leveraging cloud computing and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, these virtual models enable collaborative design, accelerated innovation, and cost reductions across the semiconductor ecosystem.
"Digital twin technology can help spark innovation in research, development, and manufacturing of semiconductors across the country – but only if we invest in America's understanding and ability of this new technology," remarked Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
A Collaborative Nationwide Effort
The CHIPS Manufacturing USA institute will establish a regionally diverse network, fostering collaboration among research institutions, industry partners, and diverse communities. This collaborative environment aims to:
Expand innovation opportunities
Benefit manufacturers of all sizes
Engage underrepresented groups
Ensure robust workforce training nationwide
Key Focus Areas:
Operational activities to run the institute
Basic and applied research on semiconductor digital twins
Shared physical and digital facilities
Industry-relevant demonstration projects
Digital twin workforce training
