Following a White House edict effectively banning federal employees from disclosing their personal pronouns in email signatures, sources within multiple federal agencies say pronouns are now being systemically blocked across multiple email clients and other software.
WIRED confirmed various automated efforts with employees at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the General Services Administration (GSA), the US Department of Agriculture, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The employees spoke to WIRED on condition of anonymity, citing fears of retaliation.
Multiple agency directors sent emails over the weekend telling staff that, due to President Donald Trump’s executive order, their offices would be removing the pronoun capability from Office 365. Employees were told they’d also need to remove pronouns from their email signatures in order to comply with the directive.
A staffer at USAID says the formal deactivation of their ability to list pronouns occurred last week, in response to executive orders defining sexes issued by President Trump on his first day in office. A GSA staffer says pronouns were wiped from employees’ email signatures after hours on Friday and were also no longer visible in Slack, the workplace messaging app. At the CDC, there used to be a section for employees to share their pronouns on their Teams profiles, another workplace app. That field no longer exists.
Reached for comment, the White House transferred WIRED to OPM communications director McLaurine Pinover, who pointed to January 29 memorandum ordering agencies to disable all features “that prompt users for their pronouns.”
The ban on personal pronouns follows sweeping efforts by the White House to eliminate programs that encourage diversity and social justice within the federal government, as well as other references to “diversity, equity, and inclusion” in federal employees’ discourse.
In a striking example of the policy in action, an image surfaced last week of a wall being painted over at the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Quantico, Virginia, academy due to it listing "diversity" among the bureau's core values. (According to an email from the FBI’s Office of Integrity and Compliance obtained by Mother Jones, the bureau no longer counts "diversity" among its core values.)
The Trump administration began a radical campaign last week aimed at inducing members of the federal workforce to leave their jobs ahead of threatened reductions. The effort is spearheaded by Elon Musk, leader of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a task force that has effectively seized control of several federal agencies and sensitive government systems with apparent clearance from the White House.
WIRED reported last week that Musk’s outfit had effectively taken over the Office of Personnel Management, the US government’s human resources department. In this and other efforts, it is employing inexperienced young engineers whose ages range from 19 to 24—many of whom, public records show, are former interns or have been affiliated with Musk-aligned companies.
OPM emailed federal workers on January 28 with a “deferred resignation offer,” sparking widespread confusion among federal workers. (DOGE’s own new HR chief was unable to answer basic questions about the offer in a contentious staff meeting last week, WIRED reported.) In an email to staff Sunday evening, OPM clarified whether the deferred resignation program complied with existing privacy laws. “Yes,” read the answer. “The deferred resignation program uses only basic contact information about federal employees, like name and government address, along with short, voluntary email responses. The information is stored on government systems. To the extent that the Privacy Act applies, all information relevant to the program is covered by existing OPM System Records Notices.”
Multiple agency sources told WIRED last week that several of Musk's lieutenants had been granted access to key computer systems controlled by the GSA, an independent agency tasked by Congress with overseeing federal buildings and providing equipment, supplies, and IT support across the government.

Worlds Collide
Part 1 Part 2
A/N: Y/H/C- your hair color, Y/H/L- your hair length
Free. You were finally free. Free of having your parents controlling your every move. Free of them barking at you to get your life together. You and Buck had made your escape and you both couldn't have been happier. Neither of you were looking back and you both didn't plan on it. You still talked to Maddie but it was rare. You and Buck hadn't been on the road for very long, maybe an hour or so. “Where are we heading?” You asked, looking at him.
“I don't know yet. Any suggestions?” He asked
“Virginia?” You asked
“You sure?” He asked
“Positive.” You said
“Alright then that's where we'll head.” He said. “What are you going to do down there?” He asked.
“To be honest I don't know yet. I like making drinks and drinking, so maybe something with alcohol.” You said
“Bartending?” He asked
“Probably.” You said and he nodded as the traffic came to a stop on the interstate.
“What if it doesn't work out?” He asked
“I don't know then I'll try something else. I need to start saving money.” You said and he looked over at you.
“Are you glad to be away? Away from mom and dad.” He said
“Oh absolutely. I miss Maddie.” You said and he nodded.
“I do too.” He said and then traffic started to pick back up. Soon the Jeep fell into a comfortable silence with the music playing softly in the background. The gentle purr of the Jeep was quickly luring you to sleep until you were asleep. Buck looked over and smiled but then quickly paid attention to the road again. You two had been on the road for a little over 2 hrs. when you were waking back up hungry.
“What are we going to do for food?” You asked as you started to mess with the radio station.
“We can stop somewhere. We have about 3 more hours to go.” He said
“Ok, let's grab something and eat on the road.” You suggested
“My thoughts exactly.” He said as he pulled off the exit to both of your favorite fast-food restaurant. He ordered both of your favorites and then you were on the road again.
3 hrs. flew by quickly and before you knew it you were landing yourselves in a hotel room for the night. Well after you went out and partied that is. “I'm thinking of going out.” You said as you both loaded your things.
“Oh yea?” He asked and you nodded.
“It's our first night in and I want to let off some of this pent-up energy.” You said looking up at Buck.
“I mean hey if that's what you want to do then go for it. I may be behind you a little later.” He said and you smiled at him.
“I promise I won't stay out too late.” You told him and he shook his head.
“No need. Just text me you're safe and have fun.” He said and you smiled at him and hugged him.
“I love you, Bro.” You said and he chuckled
“I love you too, Sis.” He said and kissed the top of your head after releasing each other you got ready and headed out.
—
You were out. You were free. Now it was time to let off some steam and pent-up rage towards your parents. It didn't take you long to find a nearby bar and when you walked in you knew you were in the right place. The buzz of the atmosphere was a very warm welcome. You were quick to move to the bar and almost immediately the bartender turned his attention towards you. “Well hello beautiful lady.” He said with a charming smile and you smiled back but he just didn't do it for you.
“I just moved and looking to let loose and maybe find a job.” You said smiling at him.
“I could probably help you with the job part. My name is Luca. I'm one of the owners of this bar.” He said and you smiled at him.
“Well nice to meet you Luca.” You said
“Say let me talk it over with my partners and come back tomorrow around 9 AM and we'll test your skills out. I do have to ask; do you have some bartending skills?” He asked
“Actually, I do. It's not official but I've learned from my parents and recipes.” You said and he nodded.
“Well, I'll take it to my partners like I said and be here at 9 AM tomorrow. In the meantime, mingle around and have fun. What can I get you to drink?” He asked
“Y/F/A/D.” You said and he nodded and was quick to get it together for you.
“Remember to have fun and enjoy. Welcome to Virginia and Lucky Horse Bar and Grill.” He said and you smiled and tipped your drink at him.
You went and grabbed a table and looked around as you were looking around enjoying the buzzing atmosphere and swaying to the music a man caught your eye. He was tall, muscular, short dark hair that reminded you of either military or police, chocolate-colored eyes that looked like they held a story but were so soft and a trimmed full beard. It looked like he was surrounded by some friends and they were drinking beer while having a good time. He was leaning against the bar. His smile was bright and it sent electricity up your body and then his laugh reached your ears and it was like airy and it just made you happy and smile back. He winked at you as he took a sip of beer and it made you swoon. His friend must've said something funny because he smiled and laughed and you couldn't help noticing a woman was close to him and leaning on him made it seem like they were a couple and you looked away. It seemed like forever that you looked away but it was only for a few seconds When you felt a presence near you making you look up and there he was.
“Hi.” He said in a voice that made you melt.
“Hi.” You said back.
“I couldn't help that a beautiful lady such as yourself was sitting alone.” He said leaning on the table and laying the charm on thick. You couldn't help but fall for it and you smiled up at him.
“I am alone. Your girlfriend must be jealous.” You said looking over at his group of people. A woman was glaring at the two of you.
“She's not my girlfriend. She's a coworker and wishes she was my girlfriend but she's not my type.” He said and you hummed.
“What is your type?” You asked and he smirked.
“Someone with Y/H/C, Y/H/L, blue eyes, and dimples when she smiles.” He said and you knew he was talking about you and that made you smile.
“Oh?” You asked and he nodded.
“Do you want to get out of here?” He asked and you nodded.
“Let’s go.” You said as you finished off your drink and pulled out some money. You walked over to the bar and met the bartender/boss giving him the money and he nodded at you and then walked away. You turned to him and raised an eyebrow. He led the way to his truck and you had to admit it was beautiful, it was a blacked-out Ram 2500 Tradesman. “Nice truck.” You said and he smirked.
“Thank you. If you like the truck, I have something else you'll like when we get to my place.” He said and you blushed as he opened the door for you to get in. When you got in, waited for him to get in, you thought to yourself.
Man am I glad we decided to come to Virginia.

MOVIES I WATCHED THIS WEEK # 215:
2 OSCAR-NOMINATED GERMAN DRAMAS:
🍿 NEVER LOOK AWAY (2018) is an epic (3+hrs) drama diving into German history and art history, my second by "Florian Maria Georg Christian Graf Henckel von Donnersmarck". (He was born 20 years to the day after me - and his first Very Important Work was 'The life of others').
The first act is oppressive and intellectually-dense, as it tells of a beautiful young woman in the Third Reich who's lucky enough to hand Hitler a bouquet of flowers when his motorcade passes through Dresden, but who's later diagnosed as schizophrenic, so she gets sterilized and mercy-killed by the Nazis. It's dark and tragic, and hard to take.
But then the film shifts gears into a biopic of her little nephew who grows up to be a painter, loosely-based on the real and famous artist Gerhard Richter (still alive today at 93). Through 20 or 30 years of inner turmoils he finds his artistic truth, by harking back to his early memories of the aunt. This is the weaker part of the story. The movie was the only second German movie that was nominated for two Oscars, but in spite of its vast ambitions, felt too uneven.
With the magnetic Paula Beer as his muse. 7/10.
🍿 EVERYTHING WILL BE OK (2015) is about an 8-yo girl whose divorced father picks from her estranged mom, for his bimonthly visits. Things seem normal at first - but they aren't. Desperation & heartbreak - I know them so well! 8/10.
🍿
KUROSAWA + SHAKESPEARE X 2:
🍿 First watch: The first of Kurosawa's three Shakespeare adaptations, THRONE OF BLOOD takes Macbeth and transports it into feudal Japan. It's the gold standard of five-star entertainment. Toshiro Mifune in top form, the delusional husband of a manipulative Lady Macbeth in Noh white-face. Murderous ambition brings tragic consequences. Filmed on Mt. Fuji in the fog, and (in the final scene) shot with real arrows. (Photo Above).
🍿 RAN, his re-imagining of 'King Lear', a magnificent epic with breathtaking cinematography, made when he was 75. What if Shakespeare was transported to 1985 and was present at a large screen performance of it, with English translation. I wonder how he would react. My majestic viewing of the week.
I've already seen his Hamlet adaptation, 'The Bad Sleep Well', a few years ago. (With the wedding scene that inspired the one at the beginning of 'The Godfather').
🍿
"...Life can be bright in America / If you can fight in America / Life is all right in America / If you're a white in America..."
WEST SIDE STORY (1961), another unorthodox, iconic Shakespeare interpretation, a musical adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet'. It played out in the Upper West side of Manhattan, between a gang of young Polish delinquents and a gang of (brown-face) Puerto Ricans. The five classic numbers ('Maria', 'America', 'Tonight', 'I feel pretty' and 'Somewhere') were the highlights of the plot. A dazzling love story between a boy and a girl, written by four gay men (Robbins, Bernstein, Sondheim and Laurents) in the ultra-conservative mid-50's, it unapologetically included "Anybodys", an early non-binary trans character.
The Spielberg 2021 version was even brighter.
🍿
I heard good things about the 1996 LAST MAN STANDING, in that it is a remake of Kurosawa's 'Yojimbo'. But then I heard wrong, because Walter Hill is no Kurosawa, Bruce Willis is definitely no Toshiro Mifune, and this sad, cliche-ridden story had nothing in it that merited a watch. Even the Ry Cooder score, and the scar-faced Christopher Walken couldn't save it from itself. 2/10 is too generous.
Next: Welles 'Chimes at Midnight'.
🍿
"On the rung of employment, it's beneath taxidermy, it's beneath bellhop... Bellhops get uniforms..."
THE PARKING LOT MOVIE (2010) is a terrific, joyful documentary about a group of "insanely over-educated people working at a service sector job", i.e. students and graduates from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, many from the departments of Anthropology or Philosophy. Most are eccentric slacker-intellectuals and they put in their time at this small, independent corner parking lot as attendants / ticket-takers. One of the guys [I didn't realize it - but they were all guys!] ended up playing the bass for 'Yo La Tengo'. An oddball, entertaining and feel-good gem. This was the only movie directed by this Meghan Eckman. I wonder what other quirky wonders could she make, if this movie had became well-known. Highly recommended - 8/10. [*Female Director*] I discovered it via Kevin Kelly's Livestream.
🍿
3 DANISH THRILLERS:
🍿 KING'S GAME (2004) a Danish political thriller and my 3rd by Nikolaj Arcel. It's a traditional plot, seen many times before in various forms, about a new parliamentary journalist who cares too much about the truth for his own sake, and who discovers a conspiracy perpetuated by a politician at the Danish 'Folketing' who's about to become the next Prime Minister. Power struggles and the corruption of ideals but with a Scandinavian bent. With two smaller roles by my favorite Danish actors Nicolas Bro, as a background 'stringer' and Lars Brygmann as a helpless, depressed husband. 4/10.
🍿 THE ELEVATOR (2021), a 4 minute horror-thriller about a young man who is stuck in an elevator. 8/10.
More from the Danish-Bulgarian Toni Genov, 2088, a very low-budget "Computer-screen" thriller, [Like 'Searching' and 'Missing'] with two physicists in the year 2088 discussing the sudden disappearance of a college.
🍿
When I saw Bertrand Tavernier's dark 'Coup de Torchon' last week, I wasn't aware that it wasn't his first existential period drama with Philippe Noiret and Isabelle Huppert. THE JUDGE AND THE ASSASSIN (1976) also starred the mesmerizing Noiret as a complicated authority figure and Huppert as his 23-yo, mistreated mistress. This is a beautiful, strange and multi-layered story which was based on a real-life serial killer from the end of the 19th century. He was an insane vagabond who cruelly raped and murdered dozens of teenagers, as he was drifting around the countryside. Noiret however is an ambitious and duplicitous judge, and the plot drifts in and out from their cat-and-mouse pursuit into one describing a larger society in flux, a system of corrupt justice that is far from just, and morals that are complex, unclear and though-provoking.
(I also started watching his tremendous last work, 'My Journey through French Cinema', but at nearly 4 hours long, I'm still in the middle of, so I'll log it next week.)
🍿
TWILIGHTS (1994) are the surrealistic adventures of a young Japanese boy, maybe a ghost, who died at 3 o'clock of the 3rd of the month, but refuses to accept his own death, so he keeps running away from it. It's a 33-minute silent movie slapstick comedy, with endless modern cinematic tricks.
The final, extended 4-minute long shot (starting at 25:45) is alone worth the price of admission.
🍿
"David Lynch's Office Space..."
I'm waiting for the end of Season 2 of SEVERANCE, so that I can binge-watch it all in one gulp, as Dog intended. I have a general fond recollection of the first season, while not remembering any of the details from it, and so I re-watched the pilot, GOOD NEWS ABOUT HELL. ♻️.
I'm surprised that I only gave it a mediocre review in 2022: Apple’s new, much-lauded and compelling series, a speculative sci-fi mystery box, where weird conspiracies stay purposefully unexplained. Dystopian exploration of office life with sinister sense of Scientology-related cultist oppression (added no doubt by the Tom Cruise-lookalike main actor). With John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette, and a terrific final episode. It was very bingeable, but I doubt I’ll join them for the second season next year. (The Opening Credits Were Good). 5/10.
I think I may appreciate the new Season more.
🍿
The upcoming biopic 'Mr. Burton' (about Richard) doesn't look like it's gonna be any good, but I thought I'll try Welsh director Marc Evans' highest-rated previous film, SNOW CAKE from 2006. However, this TV-drama type romance was mediocre and predictable. Depressed Alan Rickman gives a lift to an eccentric youngster who dies when a truck crushes into them. He visits her mother Sigourney Weaver to apologize, and discovers that she's a high-functioning autistic woman living alone in a small town in snowy Ontario, Canada. Not knowing much about ASD, it felt like a stretch, not representing the impairment with any accuracy. 3/10.
🍿
LOST KUBRICK: THE UNFINISHED FILMS OF STANLEY KUBRICK (2007), a trifle documentary that focused mostly on his Napoleon and Holocaust projects. Malcolm McDowell narrated.
🍿
THE INDUSTRIAL-MILITARY COMPLEX / INTERNATIONAL ARM TRADE X 2:
🍿 THE INEXTINGUISHABLE FIRE (1969), my first by German Harun Farocki, an experimental anti-establishment documentarian and Brechtian theorist. This is an essay that examines the process of scientific R&D at a Dow Chemical factory, as they research and manufacture Napalm, to be used in Vietnam.
"First you’ll close your eyes to the images, then to the memory, then to the facts, then to the whole story...”
🍿 "War is a racket. It always has been."
The documentary SHADOW WORLD should have been catnip for people like me. It investigates the immense, secret profits of the international arm trade, the massive corruption and collusion between politics and industry, the need for a state of Permanent War to sustain a trillion dollar pipeline of death and destruction, and how fake are the public perception of 'security' and 'democracy'.
But with so much footage to support it, the movie just pulls random clips from all over the place, all covered by ominous soundtrack, and jumps from one phrase to another, from one postulate to another without any rhyme or reason. Also, even though it came out in 2016, it mostly re-litigates the war crimes perpetuated before and after 9/11. So it brings together Prince Bandar, the Iran-Contra scandal, Jeremy Scahill, Cheney's Halliburton, Obama Nobel Peach speech, Bush Jr. shoe thrower, Lawrence Wilkerson's Mea Culpa, The despicable Margaret Thatcher Tony Blair and other anti-heroes of the roaring 80's and 90's. It was just terrible. 1/10.
It was my first by Belgian documentarian Johan Grimonprez. I still want to find his FOUR CHAMBERS TO THE HEART (about Renaissance master-painter Sofonisba Anguissola!) - but I will probably skip now his Oscar-nominated 'Soundtrack to a Coup d’État'!
🍿
THE DRIVER'S SEAT (1974) was an off-beat Italian turkey, starring Elizabeth Taylor as a high-strung, insane spinster, looking for someone in Rome who will murder her. I learnt about it on an intriguing r/truefilm thread, but it was too demented for me. ⬇️Could Not Finish⬇️
🍿
2 BY DUTCH ANIMATOR NINA GANTZ:
🍿 Her latest, 'Wander to Wonder', is nominated for this year's Oscars. Her ZALIGER (2010) is a perfect B&W linocut-style short about a widower who still thinks about his wife.
🍿 EDMOND (2015) is a weird portrait of an awkward, suicidal man, possibly with cannibalistic tendencies dealing with his social anxiety.[*Female Director*]
🍿
2 SPANISH SHORTS BY ALBERT PINTÓ:
🍿 NOTHING CO. (2014) is a brilliant black comedy: After 3 years of unemployment, a very short desperate man gets a job offer where he must sit alone in a chair and do nothing. "Do as you're told and collect a paycheck."
🍿 THERE'S STILL TIME (2014) is a young person fantasy about a guy who was dumped by his girlfriend, and is now stuck in a time loop. Every time he comes back, he's multiplying. 2/10.
🍿
7+1 EARLY SHORTS OF GREAT DIRECTORS:
🍿 THE BANK NOTE (1907), my first by French Louis Feuillade, who was discovered by my crush Alice Guy-Blaché, and who went on to direct 800 (!) silent films, including the series of Fantômas and Les Vampires. This is a terrific story about a tramp who saves a robbery victim and receives as a reward a large note, which he can't redeem. Told perfectly in visuals - no need for any verbal explanation. 9/10.
🍿 THE BRIDGE (1929), the first silent film by Charles Vidor, (who went on to make 'Gilda'.) It's the first adaptation of Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" about a man about to be hanged during the Civil war, who sees his whole life flashing before him. I already seen the 1961 Oscar-winning French version. 8/10.
🍿 PEOPLE OF THE POE VALLEY (1947), Michelangelo Antonioni's very first documentary about the poor peasants and fisherman who live along the river. Neo-realism 1.0.
🍿 IT'S NOT JUST YOU, MURRAY (1964) was actually Martin Scorsese's second film [His first, 'What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This?' was way too puerile]. It's a solid Film School crime-comedy, with many of his later obsessions already pronounced. First time he used his mom Catherine, the Felliniesque mobster world view, the joy of abundance. 6/10. [I still haven't seen 'Boxcar Bertha'.]
🍿 Because I'm a completist, I watched Alexander Payne's very first film school short, CARMEN (1985), the only one of his I haven't seen before. It's an offensive, silent slapstick experiment about a drooling imbecile who works at a gas station in the desert. NO! 1/10.
🍿 The omnibus INCOHERENCE (1994) was Bong Yoon Ho's first production after film school. The unrelated episodes tells of 3 respected members of society, a teacher who reads 'Penthouse', a jogger who steals milk from doorsteps, and a drunk expert who has to take a shit in the street late at night. In the epilogue they all appear on a TV talk show, and seem as normal as everybody else would.
🍿 FORCED HILARITY (2001) on the other hand was a much better Edgar Wright short with thought balloons, an early Nick Frost appearance and one dramatic plot twist.
🍿 (Not exactly the first or great, but) CAKE (2017) with Maxine Peake. 2 well dressed women at a barren end-of-the-line road don't want to wait for Godot, so they discuss the best way to die. Artsy.
🍿
THROW-BACK TO THE ADORA ART PROJECT:
Adora with Akira Kurosawa.

“The legal team who wrote your severance agreement desperately needs to go back to Contract Law 101,” says dad the retired employment attorney after reading my severance agreement, containing references to Oregon employment statutes (correct), California employment statutes (incorrect but understandable, since it’s based in Palo Alto), AND Virginia employment statutes (… what the fuck?), and also noting that it tells me I have five days from my severance date, Jan 31st, to review it, and that I may not sign it before my severance date, Jan 31st, and that waiting past Jan 31st to sign them is also too late and will make the offer void
So anyway, the company I’m pretty sure will be mismanaged into the ground because the sloppy slipshoddedness goes all the way through legal/HR to the sales staff and account managers, who promise things the software isn’t actually able to do, and now there are 3-3.5 people doing the maintenance of the language models (one full time person in the role I had, the new hire who splits her time between engineering and the role I had, a college intern that changes every four months, and the manager, who has a lot on her plate to begin with since she’s in a leadership role), and it’s not like things were being maintained before, so… you know… good luck with that
Anyways also please get me a new job. Please. Please get scone a job. Also please give him the willingness to listen to me when I’m like “hey xyz needs to change to pqr on your resume/linkedin”. I just really need a job. We need to be at least a one-full-American-cost-of-living-income household. Plis.
Also if anyone has talked to an AI recruiter, please share your tips, because a firm I applied to is having me do that and I have no idea how it’s supposed to work

Out of curiousity-- how much do you think they make out of their jobs? Like with rachel, as headmistress, Townsend as your majesty's secret service. I just wonder how rich rich probablt 👀
I was somewhat confused by this question until I read it a third time I’m so sorry lmao
Please don’t come at me for my research this was a hard question haha
So looking at the payment process and history of these jobs in the early 2000’s because that’s the timeframe of these books… should I have done the 80s/90s….?
Townsend was working as an agent for MI6. With that being said, that’s Military Intelligence btw, he would be making a salary around £30-£35,000 in the UK as of 2023. But before he would have been making a bit less, I wanna say around £18,000-£27,000 maybe?? If you’re in the US, that’s about $22,751-$44,238 a year.
Rachel would be making quite a bit less than everyone else because she’s not an active agent anymore. Now being a “principle”/headmistress in the US for a private school in 2023, she would make $30k—$110k a year in Virginia. That’s about $32/hr. In the 2000’s she would have made like $26k give or take. If you’re in the UK that’s about £25k-ish (if I did the math right which means that’s probably wrong oops)
Abby being in the secret service means she would make $105,000 annually as of 2022. She would make $33.60/hr. If you’re in the UK that’s about £83k-ish. But I—for the life of me— cannot figure out how much she would have made in the 2000’s but it was probably like around $10,000 less than it is now due to inflation and everything. Which is about £7,912-ish.
As a field agent for Joe and Matt… they would make anywhere from $24k—$130k a year as of 2022. (CIA makes $65,790/£52,200k-ish now) So they’d make hella bank That’s almost £19k–£103k-ish. Also, just like for the secret service, I cannot for the life of me, figure out how much that would’ve been in the early 2000s.
Sooooo with all of that… yes. Yes. They would be kinda rich rich depending on how you look at it!

How the fuck will that get you cancelled?
That is the most uncancellable, milquetoast shit I have ever seen.
If you start saving at 30 years old and you expect to retire at 65 and use $100k/year until 85 you have to invest $3000/month
Thats fucking nuts. I am putting that much away. Its insane
Here are some that will get you cancelled:
If you have good enough credit to get a $42,000 credit card and preferably like $100k credit card you could (if you made it your full time job) make $30 mil/year
Rental properties are priced based on revenue, not property value. This can be exploited both ways
A car payment should not be more than 8% of your income
A house should cost twice your salary but with a 30 year mortgage 4x your salary is affordable
Its almost impossible to sell a house thats 5x the average income in a town. So in a town with “average” income $60k per person a $300k house will need to be on the market for 6 months or more. Most nice/suburban towns have average incomes above $100k.
Banks have just cut mortgages and business loans to 90% of what it was in 2008. So were pretty fucked
You first house (with the first time home buyers program) can have a down payment of 3-5%. Its okay to not do 20%
If you’re poor places with low cost of living are more important than taxes. Virginia have high taxes but at $15/hr it doesn’t matter. you can get cheap rent and food and fuel there.
Buying a home is a scam by the banks
Refinancing your home is a scam
Refinancing your debt WITH ANOTHER BANK is not always a scam. They get your business instead of the other guys.
If you refinance with the same bank they have no incentive to help you and, in fact, have an incentive to fuck you
You will die poor
Warren Buffet invests in shit businesses and props them up by lobbying for government regulation that makes him more profitable like the Keystone pipeline. You cannot invest like Warren Buffet no matter what some book says and if you could, you shouldn’t
You can’t beat an index fund. Other people can. I do. You can’t
FOREX is actually straight up gambling. The “brokers” control the prices. Arguably its more fun than gambling but just be aware
You don’t “need” that new thing
Lifestyle creep will ruin your finances
Unless you are actively trying Costco and Sam’s Club will not save you money. Its pretty easy to do it right though
Some things are actually more expensive at Walmart than at the fancy grocery stores
You should be going to 2 or 3 different stores to get your stuff for less
Don’t buy super cheap stuff. Its a waste of money
Sometimes it is cheaper to eat out because you will have a lot of food waste and meal prep sucks. The only thing I like to prep is soup.
Most jobs have an economic impact 3 to 4x the actual pay. Get over it. The company doesn’t make that much.
Banks won’t lend to independent contractors
Net worth is not comparable to actual cash in hand
$25k is a reasonable amount to keep in the bank as. A rainy day fund. With minimum account amounts on high interest savings accounts $30k is actually reasonable. Yeah I know the average american has less than $1k
If you live in a place that has slightly above average rent and food costs the living wage is like $18.75 or more
When bond interest rates reverse that means rich people and banks are buying 30 year bonds and not 5 year bonds. This is not financial advice but thats when I am eyeballing those 5 year bonds. Banks are forced to buy bonds when the Federal Reserve “prints” money. They choose 30 year bonds even though they are a terrible investment.
If you are going to buy bonds consult an advisor. There are ways to time the market and times when inflation adjusted bonds aren’t the best so yes you do actually need to talk to someone knowledgable
The best investors are paid commission. They make money when you make money so their interests are aligned with yours
Vending machines, laundromats, and other side hustles are a scam. They are a waste of your precious time. Just work overtime at your job or grow cash crops like Oyster mushrooms
You don’t have enough money to get into real estate or most of those side hustles anyway. Minimum is like $150k cash
Oh and if you do manage to build wealth your children or grandchildren will waste it and be wage slaves again

Morning Coffee
I'll call this "Life in the Ranks."
You know, there are plenty of comments I could make about what I hear in the news and TV, but Senator Lindsey Graham is definitely one of them Taking the liberty of making loose comments with his title of acting like an Executive Officer in a Public Forum.
And there's a lot of things I could say about the Jan 6th Pardon. And when the story is all said and done, our boys "elected" by the Virginia Militia Association, to serve as our Joint Militia Detachment, with North Wales Militia, their lives are ultimately stuck with me.
I want them to put their lives back together. I want them to round up their girls and teach them to build family businesses so they can learn to make their families stronger.
But these boys, when they served with me did a wonderful job when we built our "compass" on the direction we were going to go in life. And we committed to follow this until the very end. Regardless of the State of Government Regulation. So what I can say is that they've stuck with me longer than their parents.
Now, we're an older, more worn in generation than the younger ones, for example Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce running around like hellions because they were never taught the fundamentals of how to regulate.
But when I turn around and look at these boys, they learned it by the book. And they know what they were taught. And they got really good at.
But you know in 1998, Congress decided to change all of that with their minimum wage law. And they pulled out my credentials, and regulatory guide, that we all hold dear to us. And they vandalized it, and drew a penis over the top of it.

Back then, minimum wage was $5.37/hr. Where you could go to work right out of high school. But instead, Government taught the economy to compete against our credentials as if they had a fair chance to begin with.
And it's even a fight in the education system. But what I'm saying is that it takes 4 years for a worker to qualify minimum wage to begin with. And Lawmakers will argue with me, but the truth of the matter is that the old style labor camp really is a reasonable way to live.
And when you start digging into it, it's about preserving the Biblical Sanctity of these men with the women they were born with.
Police Officers fighting themselves during Jan 6th is just one of those things that our ranks were taught to work through. But there is no difference when a Police Officer is fighting one of my Militia Officers, when they are both arguing about the same thing. That's life in a ranking system.
The Hunt Family out there showing them some dignity because they know us when we were boys. But, when you look back out the parenting that is going on here, that is just a lot of high school behavior.
--------
If you wanted 27 years of experience at this to give you my opinion. What it's really about is the the President doesn't qualify federal minimum wage standards right now. And then he is naturally fighting for his portion of the public that doesn't qualify.
Where me, as an employer, I would be stuck with arguing with a wall of lawmakers. I don't write the law, but they're the first one to tell me how to run my business. And a President way on the other side of that.
The Government's problem is the result of their own rebellion against the original tribal agreement. But you'll hear all about the term tribal. And they wound up with September 11th.
-------
They'll argue with me for two weeks about median income going up again, after the Government hires 800,000+ workers, only to layoff 25,000. But for them that's a first in a long time.
-------
With the Integrated Logistics Support System, we are trying to support business to business logistics, on a global scaling with our many partners, in order for business owners to get themselves up and cleaned, so we can go back to support in the family values we were all looking for when the world was a different place.
But with regulation, and the fundamentals behind minimum wage law to begin with, I can't pay personnel the payrolls they are really working for, because they never had a chance to find a job they can hold long enough to establish these fundamental values.
Unless the whole point of Integrated Logistics is the incentive to combat catastrophe to begin with. And now we have an actual mission scope. But the horrors of trying to support a logistics system that will provide a reasonable service is kind of concerning when you wind up wondering in the back of your mind what lawmakers were trying to say.
And so, there's incentive to take risks, where an employer can't compensate them, just to provide a service that will get them in a position where they'll have a reasonable future in 4 years or so. Or at least try to preserve what little they have since 1998.
Cn-235 and C-27 for the higher regulations of Integrated Logistics Support.
Providing additional, localized support for the Kawasaki C1 and C2 Cargo Planes.

Apple’s EU Core Technology Fee Could Bankrupt Freemium App Developers
This is going to take some time to fully understand. Apparently one of the rules requires app makers to pay Apple the equivalent of $0.54 per app installation over one million. Now, if you’re selling a product for some hunk of change or have recurring revenue you’ll probably be fine if you manage to have one million plus installations. Heck, I’d love to have to think about this problem. 🤣
Having other stores to distribute your apps through also sounds interesting but you need to verify you have access to $1,000,000 dollars to handle support issues and keep the store running smoothly.
I’m curious to see what Epic and Spotify do.
As for me, I’ll stick with the good old 15-30% cut and hope someday I have to pay Apple 30% of my sales. Why? Because it would mean I’m making really good money.
M.G. Siegler • Spyglass
I’m honestly not sure I can recall a press release dripping with such disdain. Apple may even have a point in many of the points above, but the framing of it would just seem to ensure that Apple is going to continue to be at war with the EU over all of this and now undoubtedly more.
His analysis of Apple’s press release is a laugh. Apple is definitely trying to scare the crap out of folks. 🤣

One place where Netflix won’t be is Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro VR headset. Why isn’t Netflix planning an app for what is Apple’s big $3,500 gamble on the future of augmented reality? According to co-CEO Greg Peters, it’s because the company doesn’t know if anybody’s actually going to use it.
I can’t say that I blame Netflix for their stance. Vision Pro is a brand new, extremely expensive, piece of technology. It may be cool and all but will enough folks buy into it to justify putting a lot of resources into it?
This doesn’t mean Vision Pro will be a failure. Remember, the iPhone didn’t exactly shoot out of the gate like a rocket. It took a couple iterations for it to finally gain mainstream traction. Heck, iPhone 1 didn’t even have an App Store, it only had “the sweet solution.” 🥽

Hey so this post resonated with some people and I don’t know if it’s because of the anti corporate pro labor sentiment or the recipes so here’s more of both
- you can make roasted garlic by cutting off the end of a full bulb of garlic. Invert it and season with salt and pepper, drizzle with olive oil, wrap the whole thing in foil (maybe 2 layers) and put the foil ball in the oven or toaster oven at 400 for 40 min. Foil doesn’t retain heat, but be careful of the steam! When it cools you can spread it on toast or whatever on its own, it’s also great blended into butter or hummus. If you have typophobia, it will be upsetting to squeeze the garlic out. Sorry.
- Imo the best way to cook chicken breast for salads or sandos is to take a chicken breast and pound it with a mallet until it’s uniformly like an inch thick, season with salt and pepper, put in a preheated cast iron on medium high heat w a little oil for like 4-6 min on each side. The air fryer is also works great and is even easier, I would still pound it thin though for even cooking
- It’s pretty easy to make mayo at home, I learned how because mayo used to be a never food for me, so it helped me to see how it’s made. For a more rich aioli style put 2 egg yolks in a jar w a cup of olive oil, like 4 cloves of crushed garlic, half a lemon, a tablespoon of dijon. Then take an emersion blender and blend from the bottom pulling up and repeating until emulsified, you can also whisk it like hell, but it’s a pain in the ass. Then just place in the fridge for a few hours to set
You can do this with duck eggs too like stardew valley, they make a really rich base for the honey mustard from before
AND ALSO, if you’re in the US, your boss can’t prohibit you from talking about your wages with other workers, and it’s illegal for them to coerce you to work off the clock. They also can’t retaliate against you for trying to form a union, but be careful because they can always just fire you and say it’s for another reason and just hedge their bets that you won’t fight it. Each state has its own Department of Labor where you can make complaints against your employer. If you suspect your employer is doing something illegal, don’t go to HR first because their job is to protect the company, not you
Remember that we have weekends because people literally died for them, not because they asked their employers nicely
And I have great resources to learn about the West Virginia coal wars and the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, which are some great jumping off points for learning about the history of working class people fighting for fairer treatment in our country
If I can help but one person learn about helpful cooking tips OR gain class consciousness I am happy ✌️
My husband was unceremoniously let go from his managerial job at Panera Bread at the start of covid because he had the absolute audacity to advocate for the employees he was managing. I can’t exaggerate how much he bent over backwards for this company, dropped everything to go in overnight because they needed someone, etc
ANYWAY we ended up moving two states away to a much smaller town, and three years later these CORPORATE GHOULS decide to open a location here. These absolute bedbugs in human form decided to take their slimey greens and full menu devoid of even but one crumb of a spice or a flavor
And wow do I have half a mind to do a crime about it
BUT INSTEAD here’s some tips to make better sandos/ salads/ smoothies better by yourself
- The best honey mustard is literally equal parts dijon, honey, and mayo plus a little salt. Adjust to taste depending on how you like it
- The formula to make great vinaigrette is 3 parts oil to one part acid. I do 2:1 because I like it more acidic. The acid can be any kind of vinegar, citrus juice, mustard, etc. my go to that will get you compliments every time is 3tbs oil, about 1.5 tbs balsamic, and about 2tsp each of honey and dijon. Salt and pepper to taste and minced shallots if I’m trying to impress someone. You can shake them together in a jar or tupperware to emulsify, I usually whisk it together in the bottom of the bigass salad bowl so it’s one less dish
- The best smoothie in the world is frozen peaches, frozen strawberries, orange juice, and silken tofu. It’s also a very pleasant shade of tropical pink
Eat well and stick it to the fucking man ✌️

Hyde Park is probably the most well known Royal Park, and definitely the largest in Manchester. The lake has a central bridge which marks the division between Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens, another of this eight Royal Parks, a bit smaller than Hyde Park at 275 acres in territory. Many people think Kensington Gardens absolutely are a part of Hyde Park, but the actual reason not scenario. This land was originally the private gardens of Kensington Building.
