@mabeltothknows @theresthesnitch completely agree!
Sure what famous story isn’t a fan fiction of sorts?
Virgil’s The Aeneid is fanfic of Homer’s Iliad
Most of the Roman gods’ stories were fanfics of the Greek gods with slightly different AUs
Dante’s Divine Comedy manages the hat trick of qualifying as Biblefic, Homerfic, and Virgilfic (including a self insert fic cause he meets Virgil and Homer in it, lol!)
The legend of King Arthur dates back to Wales and at least the eighth century. Sir Thomas Mallory wrote a fanfic of these various legends in Le Morte D’Artur in 1485, while later T.H. White's wrote a fanfic of it called The Once and Future King, which later became the source material for Disney’s The Sword in the Stone.
JRR Tolkien’s Lord of The Rings was inspired by Beowulf and Arthurian legend and Norse and Celtic mythology so it’s basically a cross-over fanfic, and there’s countless fanfics of LOTR, even D&Ds…
Even Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a fanfic of a Norse legend from the early 13th century which was then turned into a canon fanfic by Thomas Kyd that's now known as the Ur-Hamlet, on which Shakespeare based his Hamlet.
So why is fan fiction so looked down upon??!?
Well…
…IT IS MOSTLY WRITTEN BY WOMEN for women (“more embarrassing and worse than a trashy romance novel, you know, but like, they’re nearly as bad, yeah?” - read in condescending male voice)
AH…
🙄😒 that explains it
Idk if anon ask hour is still going but do you have any sharp argument points for people who look down on fanfiction? I know some good points with which to fight them but i go blank whenever I'm faced with an actual situation like that
Ugh, people like that suck.
Send me an ask about anything or nothing.
I'm actually going to tag @mabeltothknows, who crafted a whole argument in response when I mentioned this ask. I'll reblog her answer later.
The one thing I would say is that judging people based on their hobbies is not where it's at. There are so many worse things you could do than read and write in any form. People judge in order to feel better about their own cringey choices.

Might I suggest either a moxiety or a LAMP soulmate AU? The kind where you write on your skin and everyone else can see it? I super love soulmate AUs and I would love one!
[READ ON A03]
5 minutes until his birthday.
4 minutes until his life changes.
3 minutes until he learns if any of his soulmates already reached their 21st birthday.
2 minutes until he gets to be as happy as his best friends.
1 minute until he gets to move onto the next phase of his life.
30 seconds….the longest 30 seconds of his life.
Fuck.
He’s so screwed now.
This isn’t how it's supposed to be.
Fate really loves to play jokes on him, don’t they?
There’s only one way to play this off....don’t tell a single soul he got his soulmarks and let them think his soulmate, soulmates are younger than him.
The truth is he’s not worthy of his soulmates and they won’t want him like this.
He can only hope they’re all deep asleep and didn’t feel the alert tingle that he, their fourth soulmate turned 21 because he knows when they put their minds together and connect the dots, which they will....he will lose the three best people in his life.
------
Patton slowly gets out of bed, still tired from the previous night; first, eager with excitement then complete dread about what his future holds in store for him.
Sighing, he runs a hand through his hair as he slips on his puppy paw slippers before heading downstairs. He knows his parents will be waiting for him, expectantly as he’s made this a big deal his whole life.
“Good morning, sweetheart and happy birthday,” greets his mom from the stove where she’s making his favorite pancakes.
“Morning champ! Stay up late last night, did you?” his dad asks.
“Mornin’ mom and dad. Yeah, I did….” he trails off, not wanting to explain who his soulmates are and why he’ll never be with them.
Patton doesn’t miss the concerned look his parents share but chooses to ignore it as he settles in his usual chair at the dining room table where a glass of apple juice awaits him.
Taking a sip of the juice, he focuses on the task at hand and calms down.
Placing a plate of pancakes down in front of him, his mom takes a moment to kiss his forehead, drawing a smile out of him.
“Thanks mom! These look great.”
She smiles.
“Anything for my favorite son on his birthday,” she replies.
“I’m your only son.”
She chuckles.
“That doesn’t mean I can’t have a favorite.”
His dad snorts.
Patton’s heart feels lighter; no matter what happens, he still has his parents.
-----
The sight of his front door causes a weight to fall from his shoulders because Patton’s day was exhausting while doing his best to dodge his soulmates without looking like he was.
As Patton enters the house, he opens his mouth to greet his mom but he pauses before taking in the smirk on her face. She simply points upstairs and he takes it as his room is where he needs to do.
Opening the door to his bedroom, Patton freezes when his eyes land on his three best friends and soulmates - Roman, Virgil and Logan; they all look completely comfortable cuddling on his bed though there’s an obvious gap.
They know he knows and spent the day avoiding them instead of talking to them about their new reality.
“Uh, hey guys….what are you doing here?”
Logan quirks an eyebrow at him.
“I believe it would be obvious as to why we are here,” he states firmly.
Patton flinches causing Virgil to smack Logan on the arm.
“Oh Pat...you didn’t really think that we wouldn’t want you, did you?” asks Roman.
Looking around the room, he rubs the back of his neck sheepishly.
Roman climbs off of the bed then approaches Patton before gently taking his hand in his own.
“I’ll have you know that I’ve been falling for you since we met, so knowing you’re one of my soulmates is the best news to wake up to,” comments Roman.
Blushing, Patton tries to hide his face with his free hand but Virgil joins the pair and copies Roman’s posture.
“Princey’s right. Anyone who’s ever met you would hope would be their soulmate,” Virgil takes a deep breath, “I didn’t want to dare to dream that you could be one of mine.
Patton looks between Virgil and Roman in awe.
Cough
The trio turn to look at Logan where he sits on the edge of the bed.
“I must confess, Patton...I never thought someone like you would be my soulmate, let alone that I’d have several. However, it pleases me greatly to know that I was incorrect in my earlier thought,” says Logan.
Patton kisses one of Roman’s then one of Virgil’s hands before pulling his free and turning towards Logan. Without giving Logan any warning, he throws himself at his genius soulmate causing their other two soulmates to laugh out loud at Logan’s expression.
Snuggling closer to Logan, Patton smiles when he feels Logan wrap his arms around Patton’s waist before Roman and Virgil join them, on either side of them.
“How did you know that I was your fourth soulmate?” he asks out loud.
Virgil runs his hand up and down Patton’s back as he answers.
“You doddled on your hand during class and light blue appeared on my skin. I immediately recognized it.”
“Fudge...I should have remembered to not to do that,” replies Patton.
Kissing Patton’s cheek, Logan shifts slightly so they’re both comfortable.
“Indeed, I knew right away that it was familiar but I could not put my finger on why until I discussed the matter with Roman and Virgil,” he states.
Roman runs a hand through Patton’s hair.
“Honestly, my darling….I thought I had been dreaming.”
Before Patton can say anything, the door opens and his mom appears in the doorway and taking in the sight of her son with his soulmates before grinning brightly.
“Aww, this is so wonderful! I think this calls for a celebration!” exclaims Patton’s mom.
Patton and Virgil blush in response causing the other three to laugh loudly.
At the end of the day, he really should have known better; his soulmates would never reject him.

Self-inserts
Sephiroth: Aisha. Do you want me to ruin your life?
Me: No, General, sir.  I am capable of doing that myself. *finger guns*
So @lyrasanzennine asked me where my last self-insert fic was. I couldn't find it back, so I'm here to write a new one. When I'm stuck in a train of thought, chatting to a fictional character has been one of the ways to train myself to have a different approach to a problem.
I've been chatting with my muses (to gain solutions) for as long as I can remember. I used to start with addressing a crowd, then gradually certain muses would not reply, and the most septic muse would remain for me to have a conversation with. Most conversations happened on paper. Then I discovered RikuxYou fan quizzes and fanfics,  which is what got me into making fanwork. I am a big fan of self-inserts. This is often seen as childish and 'trashy' fandom and but... honestly. MOST literature started out as AU fan-work.
I backtracked my digital footprints and will link you to an article that shows several ‘canon’ ‘highly-appreciated’ ‘literature’ works are actually just people having FUN. Take Dante’s work for example. About Dante’s adventure. Yes, he named the protagonist after himself.
The Divine Comedy manages the hat trick of qualifying as Biblefic, Homerfic, and Virgilfic. Sure, it’s a monumentally well-crafted allegory of the soul’s approach to the divine and more or less invented a new form of poetry, but it’s also a self-insert fic in which Dante, fanboy extraordinaire, gets to write about himself meeting Virgil and Homer and all his other faves and have them all tell him how much they like him. I mean: They turn’d to me, with salutation kind Beckoning me; at the which my master smiled: Nor was this all; but greater honour still They gave me, for they made me of their tribe; And I was sixth amid so learn’d a band. This is the 14th-century Italian equivalent of writing yourself onto Final Fantasy VII’s Shin-Ra headquarters and having Tseng high-five you and tell you he loves your work. (edit is mine.) https://www.vox.com/2016/4/5/11363816/five-literature-fanfiction
Aisha: So let's continue chatting, Sephiroth. Let’s try to not make it long.

Chapter 3: C is for Clothes + Moxiety
“Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?”
Patton jumps at the unexpected noise then he spins around to greet his visitor.
“Oh! Hey Virge! I’m still me...don’t you worry!” he replies.
With a frown on his face, Virgil enters the room then moves to stand in front of the other young man. His eyes scan Patton’s outfit and his frown deepens.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Patton knows why Virgil looks at him like he is.
“Roman dared me to let him dress me up in an outfit of his choosing and well….” he gestures up and down his body, “here we are. He’s been giving me clothes ever since.”
“I’m gonna have to have a word with Princey later,” states Virgil firmly.
Patton tilts his head to the side and looks at Virgil in confusion.
“Why do you care about what I’m wearing? The others all approve of what Roman’s doing,” questions Patton.
Shaking his head, Virgil takes Patton’s hands in his own, causing Patton to blush in response and then Virgil smirks when he sees that.
“You don’t like the Patton, I’ve uh….had a crush on for the last year,” he admits sheepishly.
At the confession, Patton’s jaw drops open because he never thought his feelings would be returned. The words escape his lips before he could stop them.
“You like like me? But I thought….you and Roman?”
Virgil snorts.
“You couldn’t pay me enough to date him. He’s a good friend but that’s all.”
An invisible weight is lifted up off of Patton’s shoulders so he pulls one of his hands free from Virgil’s hold in order to cup his cheek instead.
“I’m happy to hear that you feel way because I like like you too,” confesses Patton.
Virgil turns his head so he can kiss the palm of Patton’s hand.
“In that case, I would really like you to become my boyfriend,” says Virgil softly.
Patton grins.
“I’d love to be your boyfriend, Virge,” he replies.
Unable to resist, Virgil pulls him into a tight hug which earns him a kiss to his cheek.
“If you wanna keep wearing what Roman’s given you then I’ll support you,” comments Virgil.
Patton shakes his head.
“I haven’t figured out how to tell him I don’t feel like me so…..”
He shrugs.
“We’ll figure it out together. In the meantime, put on your cat onesie and get comfortable because I’ve got some new Youtube videos I think you’ll like,” suggests Virgil.
Patton dashes off to change while Virgil sets up his laptop and sits on Patton’s bed to wait for his boyfriend. As much as he wants to rip Roman a new one, that can wait because he’s just gotten himself a wonderful boyfriend who is much more deserving of his time and attention.

we’ve got you - a Familial Anxceitmus Fanfic
written for: @sanders-sides-uncorrect-quotes
Ao3 Link
“Ugh…what the hell, Deceit? Get your elbow out of my side,” grumbles Virgil as he wakes suddenly due to the sharp stab in his side.
Deceit raises an eyebrow at him.
“Excuse you, you move your side from my elbow,” Deceit responds.
Virgil huffs.
“Why do I put up with you again?” he asks.
“For my sparkling personality and good looks.”
Rolling his eyes, Virgil moves over to the next cushion Remus had vacated, in order to put some space between the two of them.
“If I wanted to hang around with that much ego, I’d bother Princey in his room; he’s easy on the eyes at least,” comments Virgil with a smirk.
Deceit dramatically gasps while placing one of his hands on his chest like a scandalized southern belle.
“You wound me, sir!”
Virgil chuckles sardonically.
“It’s what I’m good at.”
Silence falls over them as they shift their positions to be more comfortable on their old couch with springs poking them in the back and stuffing coming out of different rips and tears in the stained cloth trying to cover the couch.
“Speaking of Princey, and you know how much I hate that…it’s too quiet. Where’s Remus?” asks Virgil, concern coloring the latter part of his sentence.
Deceit frowns at the question.
Last time he saw the other side, he’d been sitting in Virgil’s current spot as Virgil leaned against him while they watched some random show on the television but now, he’s nowhere to be found.
If something happened to Remus while he and Virgil were sleeping...if the ‘Light’ Sides did something during that time…
Clearly, his emotions showed on his face because Virgil grabs his hand and gives it a squeeze.
“They wouldn’t have the balls to do anything to Remus. Their MO is to ignore us as best they can. Trust me, Dee,” reassures Virgil.
Deceit nods his head.
“Let’s go find our brother.”
Virgil stands up then holds out his hand for Deceit to take, to help him stand as well. They wander around their part of the mindscape looking for Remus, which usually is easy to do because he makes a lot of noise with his chaos. This time though, there’s nothing but silence. Dee and Virgil share a look.
Remus ended up in the kitchen at some point.
Sitting on the floor with his back pressed up against one of the lower cabinets with his knees pulled up to his chest and his arms wrapped around them while he rests his chin on top, Remus lets out a sigh as he’s oblivious to Deceit and Virgil’s presence.
“Remus?” whispers Virgil as he drops to his knees on one side of him while Deceit copies his position on the other.
He looks up at them with a face bare of makeup but it’s the sadness in his eyes that punches them in the stomach.
“I…I…I came into the kitchen to get something but I forgot what it was then I suddenly got a random Roman thought,” he bites his lip as he looks down because he doesn’t want to see their reactions to the next part, “I miss him and I know—know that I shouldn’t,” he runs a hand through his hair, “he doesn’t want anything to do with but I can’t help—I can’t help missing him especially because I shouldn’t,” confesses Remus.
He closes his eyes and braces himself.
Deceit and Virgil share a long look before Virgil pulls Remus towards him, shifting them so they’re in a comfortable position on the hard ground. Then Remus buries his face into Virgil’s shoulder as he grabs hold of the black hoodie. Deceit moves closer then runs two of his hands through Remus’ hair and rubs his back gently.
“What you’re feeling, for however long is normal and valid, Remus. There’s nothing wrong or bad about missing him. The two of you were once one and that’s a tragic trauma no one should ever expect you to heal completely from,” says Virgil softly.
Deceit gently grasps Remus’ so he can direct him to look at him.
“Remus, you are enough as you are now. You are ours and that won’t change. I won’t let it,” says Deceit firmly.
For the first time since stepping into the kitchen, Remus smiles.

didn’t know that about you - A Sanders Sides Ficlet
For @notveryglittery
“Maybe we should stab him with his sword? Affectionately, that is.”
Patton freezes when he hears Virgil saying they should stab someone and grows concerned when he hears Logan respond.
“There may be some merit in that. Roman has not responded to any other stimuli we introduced him to.”
It takes Patton a moment to realize what his best friends were talking about.
Apparently, they’ve just discovered a particular quirk of Roman’s; one Patton’s known about for ages. Time for him to put an end to this before Roman ends up getting stabbed.
“Hey kiddos! What’s going on?” he asks cheerfully.
Logan turns to look at him.
“Greetings Patton. It appears Roman is in some kind of trance and no matter what either Virgil or I attempt, he does not respond,” explains Logan.
Patton nods his head.
“This happens sometimes. It’s nothing to be worried about as long as you know how to deal with it,” replies Patton.
Virgil furrows his brow.
“This happened before? A lot?” he asks.
Nodding his head, Patton makes his way over to where Roman’s sitting at the table, hunched over and staring at the page in front of him.
“Watch and learn, kiddos.”
Logan and Virgil move to where they can easily watch Patton but not get into his way.
Standing behind Roman, Patton places his hands on the Creative Side’s shoulders before slowly starting to massage them. It doesn’t take the trio long to see the tension felt away from Roman because of Patton’s actions.
“Mmm…thank you, dearheart. I was in desperate need of a good shoulder massage and you, my love, give the best,” compliments Roman as he looks up at Patton.
Patton smiles before leaning down to give him a chaste kiss on his lips.
“I’m happy to help, Ro; especially, since you had Virgil and Logan worried,” replies Patton gently.
Turning his head to the side, Roman spots his friends watching him then he rubs the back of his neck sheepishly.
“Sorry about that, guys. Sometimes, when the ideas aren’t flowing and I get stuck, I end up in a trance of sorts,” says Roman.
“It would have been wiser for you tell all of us a long time ago but there is no changing the past. We should be appreciative of the fact Patton knew how to return you to your senses,” comments Logan.
Virgil shrugs.
“I gotta agree with Teach on this one. It was reckless for neither of you to say anything. Don’t do it again,” Virgil asserts as he points at the offending Sides in question.
A warm sensation blossoms in Roman’s chest at their reactions.
“You’re both right and we’ll remember for the future. Now, I think it’s time you take a break Roman. Let’s go get lunch then check in on Thomas,” decides Patton.
Roman stands up from the desk then stretches for a few moments.
“A break sounds good. Wanna watch a movie after?” he asks.
Looking from Patton to Logan and Virgil, he includes everyone because spending time with his favorite people, not that he’d mention it out loud to anyone other than Patton, could be just what the doctor orders to clear up his writing block.
Patton holds out his hand to Roman which is quickly grasped then leads the way out his room.
“All is well that ends well,” comments Logan.
Virgil frowns.
“One day, I’ll get to stab Princey and it will be for a good cause.”
Logan rolls his eyes before gesturing towards the door.

Time for short fic inspired by this post by @today-only-happens-once
Virgil hears a soft sound, barely audible to the human ear and the only reason he hears it, is because of his proximity to the source.
Then the sound stops.
He thinks he imagining it then lets himself slowly fall back to sleep.
There it is again.
This time, it’s a little louder.
Maybe, there’s something going on outside but he’s much too warm and comfortable where he is to check it out.
The sound ends.
Well, this shit is getting annoying.
“Virgil…Virgil!” shouts a voice.
His eyes shoot open and he shoots up in bed, looking around the room for the source calling his name.
Laying next to him, Patton struggles and continues to call out his name causing Virgil to start freaking out though he manages to control himself with the thought that Patton needs help.
Virgil reaches out and gently shakes Patton’s shoulder.
Opening his eyes, Patton lets out a gasp then upon seeing Virgil next to him, he reaches for him.
Surprised by Patton’s reaction, Virgil moves without thinking – taking the moral side into his arms and hugging him firmly. He certainly didn’t expect this.
This is new and unusual.
Virgil feels faint and his breath comes out haphazardly before he recognizes what’s happening to him. He uses Patton’s physical weight to ground himself in the moment and his familiar scent to calm down.
Curling closer to Virgil, Patton’s oblivious to the anxious side’s internal freak out as he shifts to a more comfortable position with his head beneath Virgil’s chin and on his chest, drawing his own comfort from him.
At that moment, realization hits Virgil like a ton of bricks to the face.
Patton feels safe.
Patton feels safe with him.
Holy crap.
Feelings surge with him, too quickly for him to put a name to any one of them and instead of being overwhelmed, he’s comforted by the idea. The side who’s made him feel accepted and safe the most out of all of them…also feels safe and comfortable enough to be vulnerable with him.
Virgil knows not even Roman would be able to find the words for this.
Carding his fingers through Patton’s hair, he enjoys the softness against fingers and smiles gently as he feels Patton relax against him. He almost wishes they could stay like this for eternity.
A tear escapes his eye and runs down his cheek.
He never imagined his existence would change so drastically or that the change could be greatly attributed to one person but is has and it does.
Virgil snorts quietly.
If Princey heard his thoughts, he’d never hear the end of it.
Hope lives and breathes in Patton and Virgil makes a promise to himself that he’ll do whatever it takes to remain by Patton’s side and protect him; especially from the Other Sides because he won’t see the moral side corrupted by them.
“Love you Virgil,” whispers Patton in his sleep.
Three words is all it takes to bring Virgil out of his thoughts and blush slightly.
He leans down and kisses the closest part of Patton he can reach.
“Love you too, Patton,” he whispers reverently.

Sides-tember Day #5 (“Dark Sides Rooms”)
prompts credit - @what-is-and-isnt-a-chair
prompts - here
Patton notices slowly over time how his boyfriends spend all of their time with him either in the Commons or in his bedroom and it gets him thinking he’s only been in Virgil’s room once and never in Dee’s. He wonders how to bring it up because he knows better than to enter their rooms without their permission. Maybe they don’t want him in there.
The thought causes him to frown.
“I totally don’t want to know what’s caused that frown because I certainly don’t like when you smile,” comments Deceit out of nowhere.
Patton turns his head and gives him a smile as he watches Deceit move to join him on the couch before leaning up to give him a kiss.
“It’s nothing to worry about, Dee. I promise,” replies Patton.
Deceit frowns.
“What doesn’t Dee need to worry about?” asks Virgil from the other side of the room.
Patton opens his mouth to say something but Deceit places a finger on his lips, silencing him.
Walking over, Virgil sits on the other side of Patton.
“I didn’t come in and see Patton frowning. He told me the reason when I asked,” explains Deceit.
“Patton?” asks Virgil softly as he takes his hand.
Patton sighs.
“I got to thinking about how we spend all of our time either out here or in my room then how I’ve never spent any time in either of your rooms which brought me to the thought that you didn’t want me in there,” explains Patton.
He knows when his boyfriends team up they’ll always get what they want especially from him.
Virgil and Deceit share a look.
“We do want to spend time with you in our rooms but we didn’t think you want to, after the first time you came into my room with Logan, Roman and Thomas,” responds Virgil.
Patton squeezes his hand before grabbing Deceit’s with his other one.
“Our rooms are totally like the Light Sides’ rooms and there’s nothing to worry about in them,” comments Deceit.
Patton smiles softly at him.
“I’ll be with one or both of you so it won’t be scary or anything. How could it be when I’m with my two protectors?”
Deceit feels the non-scaly side of his face heat up at Patton’s words while Virgil buries his face in Patton’s shoulder.
Giggling softly at his loves, Patton squeezes their hands.
“I love you both,” he says softly.
“I totally don’t love you at all,” replies Deceit.
“Love you too, Patton,” mumbles Virgil into his shoulders.

Sides-tember Day #7 (“Baking”)
prompts credit - @what-is-and-isnt-a-chair
prompts - here
“You okay, Pat?” asks Virgil.
Patton looks up from where he’s mixing brownie batter to see his boyfriend standing in the doorway, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. The sight makes him smile.
“I woke up and you weren’t in bed so I got worried,” Virgil confesses.
Placing the bowl down, Patton crosses the room to hug him. He didn’t mean to worry him.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I couldn’t sleep but you looked so relaxed that I didn’t want to wake you up,” replies Patton.
Virgil snuggles close to him.
“I only sleep well when you’re there with me,” he says.
The timer on Patton’s phone goes off so he lets go of Virgil who pouts and makes grabby hands at him as he moves away.
“You don’t want me to burn down the apartment, do you gum drop?” Patton asks.
Virgil huffs then crosses his arms.
“Fine. Take out whatever is in the oven and let it cool. I’m drawing the line at the brownies though. They can wait until later,” Virgil states.
Patton can’t help kissing his cheek then doing as he’s told as he knows how seriously Virgil takes their cuddling and regular sleep schedule. Besides, he loves it too and hates missing out or cutting it short.

Opening the door to his apartment he shared with his best friends, Patton sighs contently.
His time away gave him time to think and be distracted from his situation in equal measure.
Patton’s not surprised to find the apartment quiet and empty at this time of day. Coming back now, gives him time to settle in and brace himself for seeing things he doesn’t wanna see and keep his feelings to himself.
His bags make it to the foot of his bed before his plan unravels.
“Patton? You’re back?” questions a hopeful voice from his doorway.
Patton spins on the spot and smiles at Roman.
“Yuppers. It was nice to see my folks but it’s good to be home. Aren’t you supposed to be working?” he replies.
Shaking his head, Roman’s a spring ready to launch.
“Nope, switched shifts with a co-worker.”
Patton opens his mouth to say something when Roman launches himself at him, knocking him backwards onto his bed, beneath Roman; something he’s fantasized about though not under these circumstances.
“God, I missed you,” whispers Roman against Patton’s neck.
Unsure of what to do, Patton wraps his arm around Roman then slowly rubs his back causing his friend to snuggle closer.
Roman relaxes against him then drifts off to sleep where he is.
Seeing he’s stuck for the foreseeable future; Patton takes comfort from Roman’s presence and follows him off to dreamland.
Later that evening, two other familiar voices rouse Patton.
“Well, this is just too precious to process,” comments one voice.
“I literally can’t think of anything bitter or cynical to remark,” says another.
Blinking a few times before adjusting his glasses, Patton looks over to his doorway and spots his other two best friends, Logan and Virgil standing there and looking at him and Roman.
Oh bugger.
He knows what this looks like but what’s going is so far from the truth and he’d never want to come between them, as much as it hurts because he knows his three best friends are happily together.
All of his squirming wakes up Roman who let’s go of him without thinking and Patton sends himself flying backwards and off of the bed. As he lays there, all he can think of is he hopes he didn’t ruin Roman’s relationship.
A purple and black arm appears in his line of vision.
Patton looks up and Virgil’s there with a concerned look on his face as he waits for Patton to take his hand, which he does immediately.
What he doesn’t expect is Virgil using his hold on Patton’s hand, pull him towards him then hugs him tightly, leaning his forehead against Patton’s before closing his eyes.
“Next time, I’m going with you,” he whispers.
Patton doesn’t know how long they stand like this.
Cough.
Virgil turns his head and hisses at Logan and Roman, who take several steps backwards with their hands raised in the air unthreateningly.
Patton blinks.
This is new.
“As much as I like having ya’ll in my room, maybe we should go out to the living room,” suggests Patton.
Seeing as Virgil’s not gonna let him go any time soon, Patton lifts him up, causing Virgil’s legs to wrap around his waist on instinct and his grip around his neck to tighten.
Patton thinks he hears Roman whisper,
“That’s hot,”
Under his breath but surely that can’t be right.
Pushing the thought out of his mind, Patton concentrates on carrying Virgil out into the living room while Roman and Logan follow him.
“Alright, you’re gonna have to get down so I don’t drop you,” states Patton.
Virgil pouts but unwraps his legs from Patton’s waist before using him to help stabilize himself.
Removing himself from Virgil’s grip, Patton sends him a smile in response to Virgil’s pout at his actions (and boy, doesn’t Patton want to kiss that pout right off his lips).
He looks at Logan before opening his arms for a hug.
Long ago, Patton realizes that this isn’t something Logan’s always in the mood for.
He’s pleased however, instead of hesitating…Logan immediately steps into his space and hugs him tightly.
“It pleases me greatly to have you back,” Logan says softly.
“I had a good weekend but I’m glad to be back,” he replies.
Logan squeezes him softly in response, content to enjoy the moment.
“Alright, lovebirds. Time to break it up,” yells Roman.
In an instant, Patton’s reminded of his situation and how he has no place in their relationship. Panicked, he lets go of Logan then jumps backwards to put space between him and the others. Apparently, it’s still too easy for him to fall into old habits which, not good for getting over his crushes.
“Patton? Are you alright?” asks Logan.
“Uh, yeah; been a long travel day and all that,” he answers.
Virgil frowns as he watches Patton.
“This is the second time tonight you’ve reacted like this. You sure you’re all good?” he questions.
“Ac-ac-act like what?” responds Patton.
“A kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar,” explains Virgil.
Patton shakes his head.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry. I probably should get some sleep,” he says as he tries to head back to his room.
A hand grabs his own causing Patton to pause and look at Roman. He can’t decipher the look in Roman’s eyes.
“Maybe Remus was right after all…” he trails off.
Patton tilts his head to the side in confusion because Roman never admits it when his brother is right about something. The confusion grows when both Logan and Virgil have a lightbulb moment themselves.
“You’re in love with us but think we couldn’t feel the same way about you,” states Roman.
Patton bites his lip.
“You know about us, don’t you Patton?” comments Logan.
His silence illuminates something for both Roman and Virgil.
It’s time to come clean to his best friends.
“How could I not fall in love with all of you? There’s no one better on the Earth than the three of you,” he sighs, “that’s why it’s not hard to realize you’re all out of my league and I have no place here,” Patton admits.
“Oh Pat…”comments Virgil softly.
Logan moves to his side once more.
“Falsehood.”
Before Logan says another word, Roman jumps in.
“The last few days without you here…the apartment felt cold and more like a house than a home. Without you, Patton,” Roman pauses and runs a hand through his hair, “without you…we’re incomplete. You’re our heart and we’re in love with you.”
Logan and Virgil nod in immediate agreement.
It’s overwhelming and he feels like he’s gonna faint but that doesn’t stop him from smiling the brightest and lovingly smile at them causing all three of the men to blush bright red.
Logan’s the closest to him, so Patton grabs his hand and pulls Logan towards him, stealing the move Virgil used early but instead of hugging him, Patton gently cups his cheeks before kissing him for a few moments then letting go.
Next comes Virgil but despite Patton’s plan of kissing softly and gently like Logan, he presses himself up against Patton as he kisses him back; desperately but fiercely at the same time. When they part, it takes Patton a couple moments to find himself.
Last but certainly not least is Roman, determined to not be outdone by Virgil.
As Patton kisses him, he wraps himself around Patton to the point, one wrong move sends them down onto the couch. Then when Patton pulls away to breath, Roman moves his lips to Patton’s neck, surprising him enough to get a startled squeak out of him.
Then Roman feels himself being pulled back.
“Alright, Princey; remember, you gotta share and I think Patton needs some space to breath,” comments Virgil.
Romans hops up, allowing Patton to sit up and take a couple deep breaths with Logan sitting besides him and rubbing his back.
Looking from Logan to Roman to Virgil and back again, Patton couldn’t believe his dreams were coming true.
“This isn’t a dream, right?” he asks.
Virgil laughs lightly, pushing Roman down next to Patton on the couch then sits in his lap.
“This is very much real, Pat. You have nothing to worry about,” replies Virgil as he takes Patton’s hand.
Patton drapes his free arm over Logan’s shoulder, who moves closer to Patton before kissing him on the forehead.
“Indeed, we’re very much in love with you and none of us would have it any other way,” comments Logan.
Roman smiles at him contentedly.
A smile blossoms on Patton’s face – home really is where the heart is and he’s home.

“Uh, Virgil…what are you doing in my room?”
Virgil looks up at Patton then grabs his hand and pulls him down next to him then places a finger on his lips.
“I’m hiding from Roman and Logan. I may have eaten the last of the Crofter’s but didn’t own up to it when Logan found out. He blamed Roman who is arguing that he didn’t do it,” confesses Virgil.
Patton shakes his head but he understands Virgil’s behavior.
“VIRGIL!!!”
They look at each other before Patton grabs Virgil’s hand and pulls him over to his closet. He shoves him down onto the floor then sits in his lap before closing the door. Patton puts his finger on Virgil’s lips so he doesn’t speak.
Footsteps become louder, the closer they are to the closet.
The door slams open with a loud bang.
Patton waves his hand over Virgil and himself just in time as the closet door is pulled open.
Logan pokes his head and looks around for a few seconds before pulling out and closing the door.
“Virgil’s not here. I bet he’s hiding out in the imagination,” comments Logan.
“WHAT?”
Roman runs out of the room with Logan in hot pursuit.
Once they’re sure they’re out of danger, Virgil kisses Patton’s finger before removing it from his lips.
“How?”
Patton smiles gently at him.
“It’s part of the room – if I don’t want something or someone to be seen by others then they won’t be,” he explains.
Virgil nods his head then frowns.
He has other questions but now is not the time for them.
Smirking, he brings his hands up to Patton’s cheeks.
“In that case, I do believe my hero deserves a reward,” he says.
Virgil pulls Patton’s head down gently before kissing him.
The closet remains occupied for some time until Thomas summons them and they appear in the same position causing Roman to scream then faint.

Sides-tember Day #3 (“Movie Night”)
prompts credit - @what-is-and-isnt-a-chair
prompts - here
“Aww Roman…don’t pout. WALL-E is a Disney-Pixar movie and you know you like the cute and adorable robots,” comments Patton.
Roman huffs and crosses his arms.
Leaning over, Patton pecks him on the lips; drawing a smile from his Disney-loving boyfriend.
“Besides, you know it’s Logan’s turn to pick a movie,” says Patton firmly.
“Yeah, yeah. I know,” replies Roman.
Patton shakes his head at him while he continues to get the living room set up for their movie night while Virgil and Logan are getting their snacks and drinks ready in the kitchen. Movies nights with his loves are what he lives for and he can’t help kissing Roman again; this time, Roman gets into it and they get carried away for a few minutes.
“Alright, alright. We’re here to watch a movie, not make-out,” comments Virgil.
Behind him, Logan shakes his head at all three of them.
Roman smirks.
“Jealous Virge?” he says cockily.
“Always; of whoever is making out with Patton that isn’t me,” he responds confidently.
Roman’s jaw drops open.
“Enough you two, let’s get settled for movie night,” interrupts Logan.
He knows those two could go all night if they’re not nipped in the bud.
Patton takes one of the bowls of popcorn from Logan then places it on the side table followed by the other one which he places on the coffee table, earning a smile from the logical side. Then he grabs Logan’s hand and tugs him so he’s sitting on the couch next to him.
The other two follow suit with Roman next to Patton, draping his arm around his shoulder while Virgil plops down on Patton’s lap. There are a couple minutes of shifting around until they’re comfortable.
Logan presses play on the remote and it isn’t long before all four men are engrossed in the movie. Slowly, over the course of the movie…they fall asleep, one by one – first, it’s Roman then Virgil then Patton then finally Logan, who couldn’t resist smiling at his sleeping partners before joining them in sleep. They may wake up with sore backs and limbs but they all agree it’s worth it to wake up with love.

“For someone who’s supposed to be in charge of Thomas’ romantic life, you’re really oblivious when it comes to your own,” comments Virgil.
The Anxious Side appears out of nowhere, like he’s wont to do.
Roman’s come a long way in his opinion of his, yeah let’s just be honest here, friend but he still gets startled by Virgil’s sudden appearance at times. Though, it’s funny when Logan’s the one startled. Maybe sharing a dramatic streak with Virgil isn’t such a bad thing after all.
Shaking his head, he focuses on what Virgil said.
“Excuse me? My love life is fine,” replies Roman.
Virgil snorts.
“Dude, you’re really hopeless.”
Roman pretends to be offended because he can hear the affection in Virgil’s voice.
“Like you’re one to talk, Verge.”
Brows furrowed; he stares at Creativity.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Roman rolls his eyes then let out a sigh at the obliviousness in front of him.
“You. And. Logan.”
Each word punctuated with a poke to Virgil’s bicep.
Virgil smacks the offending hand away then glares at Roman because the prince has a mean poke.
“We’re not talking about me. We’re talking about you. Also. I have no fricking clue where you get the idea. Me and Logan, of all people. Honestly.”
Raising an eyebrow at Virgil, Roman crosses his arms.
“Uh duh, with my own two eyes is where,” replies Roman.
Virgil huffs.
“Well, what about you and my best friend then? Hmm?”
It takes Roman a moment to realize who Virgil is talking about but when he does, his face becomes as red as his sash.
There’s really no pretending otherwise, now that the cat’s out of the bag.
“So what? I may have a little,” he uses his thumb and pointer finger to visualize the size of his crush, “crush on Patton. What about it?”
Virgil snorts then covers his mouth with his hand for a moment.
“Not gonna lie, you two would probably be good together.”
Roman opens his mouth but Virgil raises his hand to stop him and he closes his mouth as he takes in the change to Virgil’s demeanor.
“That said, you hurt him…you have to deal with me and you thought you hated me before, just you wait…”
Roman blinks, stunned into silence; while he knew the moral and anxious sides were friends, he didn’t realize how strong their friendship really is and how close he could have gotten to having Virgil fall for Patton too.
Unaware, the duo held the attention of a couple of spectators for a couple minutes now.
“Perhaps, we should do something about this argument. What do you think, Patton?” asks Logan.
Patton looks between his friend, best friend and crush a few times.
“I think so. We don’t want them hurting each other,” answers Patton.
Grinning brightly, Patton makes a mad dash towards Roman who’s about to say something when he notices the incoming Morality Side. There isn’t much time for him to say anything as Patton tackles him to the ground.
Virgil stares at the sight in confusion.
“Uh hi, Patton. Is there something I can do for you, padre?” asks Roman.
Being tackle-hugged by the unaware love of your existence isn’t something anyone’s prepared for so Roman’s not sure how to proceed besides ignoring his friends watching.
Patton smiles at Roman softly.
“There’s something I wanna tell you, Ro.”
There’s a pause as he gathers his thoughts and Roman feels like he can breathe while deciding whether or not to risk the moment by wrapping his arms around Patton. At least, throw something at Virgil if he could aim without causing Patton to move off of him.
“I like you, Roman,” says Patton simply.
“I like you too, Patton.”
Patton shakes his head then lets out a soft giggle that turns Roman into mush.
“I like like you, Roman,” clarifies Patton.
Roman’s eyes widen in surprise because he didn’t expect to have his feelings returned then he grins brightly at his puffball.
“I like like you too, Patton,” responds Roman.
The hug-kiss combo Roman receives from Patton is almost enough to forget Virgil’s presence.
Almost.
“You two are so sweet, you’re gonna give me a cavity or several,” comments Virgil.
He’s happy for his best friend and Princey really but his earlier words still stand.
During the commotion, Logan came to stand next to the anxious side.
“That’s not possible Virgil. Neither Roman nor Patton are a saccharine treat with no nutritional value. Besides, you’re a metaphysical person, you can’t get cavities,” comments Logan.
Virgil facepalms.
“I didn’t mean it literally, Logan.”
The two emotional sides look at the other half of their quartet in amusement from their position on the ground.
“And they call us cheesy?” asks Roman in a whisper.
Patton shrugs.
“They’re happy, we’re happy that’s all that matters,” he responds.
Roman smirks up at time.
“I do suppose they could be happier…like we are now,” he suggests casually.
Looking between his best friend and other best friend, it becomes glaring obvious to the emotional side what his prince is getting at.
After all, emotions were kinda his thing.
Patton gets up then helps Roman up but neither lets go of the other’s hand, relishing in the new intimate contact between them.
“Logan loves Virgil and Virgil loves Logan!” shouts Patton unexpectedly.
The two Sides look at each other and blush as Roman struggles to not laugh at their reactions.
Before either of them can hurt Patton, Roman tugs on his hand and starts leading him away to somewhere they can be alone and discuss this further. He’s also sure once they get over their embarrassment, they’ll be coming for Patton and as Patton’s prince, he must protect him from any and all danger, even when it comes in the form of their best friends.
“We’ll leave you two to it!” calls Roman over his shoulder before he syncs out with Patton.
Virgil does his signature half-smirk/half-smile thing he does causing Logan to feel like his heart is going to explode out of his chest, as illogical as that sounds.
“So, you wanna get some coffee or something?”
Logan smiles.
“That would be more than acceptable, Virgil.”
Hopefully, Thomas will be able to handle the changes that have

“Can you please stop messing with the radio?? Patton’s trying to get some sleep,” comments Roman from the back seat.
Logan looks back via the rearview mirror while Virgil turns his head to look at his best friend then frowns. They didn’t mean to make Patton for so long while the rest of them slept for hours. Thankfully, when Logan woke up, he made Patton pull over so he could drive and Patton could rest. The quartet shuffled around so Roman could cuddle with his boyfriend.
“Sorry Roman,” whispers Logan.
Virgil shoots him an apologetic look.
“Put on some Sleeping at Last for now then in a couple hours, we’ll stop to get something to eat and wake up Patton then you can play with the radio,” states Roman firmly.
The other couple nods their heads as they know Roman becomes fierce when it comes to Patton. Virgil does as requested then Roman smiles at him in thanks.
Roman runs a hand through Patton’s hair and smiles lovingly at him when he snuggles closer to Roman. His eyes drift up to the front in time to catch Logan kissing the back of Virgil’s hand, receiving a bright blush in return.
Things settle down in the SUV as he focuses on his boyfriend. Roman has plans for him during this trip though no one else knows. He definitely likes it and plans to make that known to the whole world.
He kisses the top of Patton’s head before falling him into dreamland while his friends’ voices mix with the music playing in the background.

“Why don’t they just kiss already?”
Virgil looks over at Patton who’s watching Roman and Logan arguing once again about Thomas’ priorities.
It’s a good question honesty.
“You know what? You’re right, Pat. They really need to get on with it and put us out of our misery,” replies Virgil.
Patton grins.
“They don’t think I’d notice but uh, emotions and me are like this,” he crosses his middle finger over his pointer, “Of course, I’d notice what’s going on between them.”
Leaning over, Virgil kisses him on the cheek.
“If I was a betting man, I would have bet that they would have gotten together before us,” he comments.
Patton nods in agreement.
Their journey from friends to something more really was something and took a long time. As it is, Roman and Logan broke their record by now.
As they watch their friends, Roman gestures wildly and they can see Logan rolling his eyes at the fanciful side and both of them try to stifle their laughs because they don’t want to interrupt.
“At least, your flirting could reasonably be called flirting,” comments an unexpected voice, “This, whatever this is…it’s just shameful.”
The two Sides turn to see who spoke and spotted Remy standing there.
Patton grins while Virgil nods at Sleep.
“Good to see you, Remy. What brings you to our little part of the Thomassphere?” asks Patton.
Remy waves his hand in the direction of Roman and Logan.
“They’re louder than they realize. Babes, you’re gonna need ear plugs once they get their act together,” he answers.
Both Virgil and Patton scrunch up their faces in disgust at what Remy implied.
“Anygay, I’m just passing through. Let’s brunch sometime,” he says before disappearing.
Virgil chuckles.
“He’s not a bad guy, that Remy,” comments Virgil.
“True dat,” responds Patton.
Shaking his head, Virgil reaches for Patton’s hand.
“Never say that again, it’s embarrassing.”
Patton sees his boyfriend trying to hide a smile so knows there’s no meanness behind his words.
“I make no promises.”
How did Virgil get so lucky? Patton’s the best thing to happen to him and he means the world to the anxious side.
As if sensing Virgil’s thoughts, Patton kisses him softly on the lips.
They smile at each other.
Their moment is interrupted by louder shouting.
Patton sighs.
“Time to do something about them. They’re getting on even my nerves now,” comments Patton.
Virgil raises an eyebrow at that.
Teach and Princey really did it now; this should be good.
Patton winks at him.
Looking over to the bickering couple, Patton thinks for a moment then waves his hand in their direction.
Suddenly, there’s a log rolling towards Logan which trips the logical side up when it reaches him. He flails around in the air for a couple moments before reaching out to grab onto Roman’s shoulder to stabilize himself. Then another, slightly bigger log rolls towards them with enough force to knock them over before disappearing in a poof with the other one. Logan lands on top of Roman whose arms wrapped around his waist to help stabilize him earlier.
“Nice one, Patton,” smirks Virgil.
“Thanks Verge,” replies Patton.
They focus on the couple across the room from where they’re sitting and burst out laughing when Logan jumps up and away from Roman, who quickly scrambles to his feet once they realize the position they’re in.
Neither man can look at the other while blushing.
Virgil rolls his eyes.
“They really are hopeless, aren’t they?” he asks rhetorically.
Patton frowns.
His best friends deserve to be as happy as he and Virgil are.
Waving his hands, he shrinks the space Logan and Roman are in then makes a clear box around them that they can’t escape from until they confess their feelings. Patton rubs his hands in satisfaction as his friends stand almost chest-to-chest.
Apparently, neither Roman nor Logan realized the other Sides were there until now if the double glares they were sending were any indication.
“Let us out of here, Patton!” yells Roman.
Logan frowns.
“What is the purpose of you trapping us in such a small enclosure?” he asks.
Virgil rolls his eyes.
“The answer to that question will free you once you figure it out,” Virgil explains, “Come on, Patton. Let’s get out of here.”
Patton takes his hand and grins.
“Have fun kiddos!” he calls.
The two sides sync out to the sound of yelling.
Virgil snaps his fingers by his ears.
“So…about those ear plugs?”
