Blue Mountain Vireo
[image ID: a songbird perched, almost looking curious towards the camera. the head is gray, with a dark brown eye. the breast and belly are drab yellow. the bill is heavy and dark blue and the feet are pink. end ID]
Song:
Scientific Name: Vireo osburni
IUCN Rating: Near Threatened
Habitat & Location: endemic to Jamaica and found in tropical moist lowland and montane forests, though it also will forage in plantations and degraded forests
Fun Fact: quite secretive and typically detected first by vocalization- which may be difficult, as this vireo's song sounds more like a frog or insect than a bird
[Image ID: a zoomed in map of Jamaica. all of the island is colored purple, which means the bird lives there year-round. end ID]
Image Sources: bird (Matthew Grube), map (birds of the world)
