The crazy journey

Ok...jag TROR det kan nåt i den här stilen:

När jag var ung och bodde hemma åt jag bra. Jag var duktig på att känna av vad jag behövde och såg till att fixa det. Åt knappt socker eller direkt mycket fett. Medelaktiv fysiskt. Väldigt lugn och den stabila, den som klarade av andras psykbryt och nervösa sammanbrott. I was a rock.

Sen blev jag äldre. Jag var på väg hemifrån och jag började tjäna egna pengar. Jag ville “lyxa” med sånt som jag ätit så lite av såsom pizza, alkohol, läsk och godis. Kosten börjar ändras, jag träffar T och kommer in i deras kosthållning. Samtidigt är vi nyförälskade så vi hade ju galna mängder sex och gick typ flera mil i veckan. Ökad fysisk aktivitet. Jag börjar med p-piller och får då efter ett tag höra att mitt blodtryck är lite förhöjt för första gången. Det har alltid varit normalt innan.

Njutningslivet fortsätter och det funkar ändå. Jag är fortfarande stabil. Den “lyxiga” kosten fortsätter. Vi äter mängder med crap och äter ute väldigt ofta. Jag är nu nästan 20 och tycker jag är vuxen att bestämma vad jag ska äta. *suck*.

Sen en kväll så har vi ett jättebråk som varar i timmar över telefon. (mer fysisk ansträngning) Jag är i Hovsta och han i stan. Klockan är typ 03 och jag har inte ätit på X antal timmar av nån anledning (mer brist på näringsämnen). Får dock för mig att cykla in och möta honom. En mil mitt i natten utan näring på nästan 24 timmar skull jag gissa. 

Där upplever jag det mest otäcka jag varit med om EVER. Jag tror jag ska dö och börjar radda upp allt och alla jag älskar. Jag tror att HÄR fick jag min första allvarliga magnesiumbrist eller astmaattack. Hade såklart ingen mobil eller nåt med mig för jag behövde inget sånt då. Brikanyl visste jag inte ens va det va. Att jag för första gången faktiskt var i fara men jag klarade mig. Jag va INTE the rock.

T “räddade” (?) mig för första gången.

Jag åker hem med bussen, gråter inför mamma och pappa (highly ovanligt) och sover till och med bredvid dem. Helt fucking förstörd.

Här nånstans går jag till en läkare som klassar detta som något som heter panikångest. Har aldrig hört talas om det innan. Jag är helt knäckt och köper det. Ja då äre väl det jag har, tycker jag. Vilket sådär nu i efterhand är så jäkla OTYPISKT att det inte ens finns. Jag som alltid tagit hand om andras ångest. Jag som var den stabila.  

Min crappy kosthållning och dekandenta livsstil fortsätter. Men jag börjar märka små grejer här och var. Inte lika trygg och blir mer orolig och otrygg (magnesiumnivån sjunker) 

Vi flyttar ihop och då märker jag hur oroligheten/otryggheten nåt nya nivåer. Jag vågar inte längre vara själv och T får inte ens gå utanför dörren utan att jag ska med. TOTALT knäckt. Min inre rock är nu GONE och jag förlitar mig på att röra mig så lite som möjligt för något annat stressar mig. Nu blir det ÄNNU mer fokus på dekantent livsstil och jag totalt skiter i alla såhärskamangöra. Kosten (och jag) fallerar.

Jag vänjer mig vid att konstant ha ångest/oro/se världen mörkt. Nu ser livet ut såhär. Mina ben och armar blir extra håriga men magen funkar ändå att smälta skitmaten. Tror att sex börjar krångla här. Tror jag har med mig brikanyl här?

Vi byter lägenhet. Börjar märka att jag reagerar lite på lukter. Bensinlukten i sovrummet stressar och är obehaglig. 

Jag bestämmer mig runt 2009 att jag vill gå ner i vikt igen. Det har totalt sprungit iväg och jag som alltid vägt 80 nomatterwhat hemma, väger nu 122. I ain’t having it no more. HÄR börjar magen reagera på maten. Jag börjar med skonkost. Jag tror det ledde in på LCHF här. Det gjorde att socker försvann och kroppen kunde för första gången på ÅRATAL börja få in näring igen. Jag blev lite mer stabil. Men här insjuknade pappa samtidigt i cancer som gav enorm stress. Hans död var ännu värre stresspåslag. LCHF fortsatte och jag kände ändå att jag klarade av att åka till universitetet och plugga/praktisera utan att T var i knät konstant. Liiite bättre.           

Lyckas vara hemma själv dagtid i två år (vilket var projekt NO WAY 2003-2007 typ) och det funkar ändå. Rör mig fortfarande minimalt för jag har märkt att då kommer “panikångesten” som förmodligen var magnesiumbristen som påminde mig om att jag inte hade den energin och att det drog ur massa magnesium som i sin tur stressar upp kroppen och ger mig stress för att det ÄR obehagligt (och kan vara livshotande) med magnesiumbrist. Men sen kommer oron krypande och jag börjar sabba kosten med mer fett och onyttigheter som tröst. Jag märker att sötsaker/alkohol/kaffe inte funkar längre (minskad insulinresistens pga magnesiumbrist och urindrivande drycker driver ur magnesium). Det blir sämre och jag totalt havererar 2013 då jag (måste) följer med T till hans jobb. Totalt knäckt del 2. Dagar går åt att Överleva, stå ut och mest...do not die.

2014 är det stapplande steg. Jag börjar komma in på nåt jobbliknande för att mest inte vara själv hela dagarna och inte hamna hos andra. Jag behövde en förvaringsplats basically. LITEN.SKITRÄDD.SKITOTRYGG. Var jag nu. Hon som aldrig förut knappt berördes av galenskap och läskigheter. Lukter hade blivit jobbiga, magen hade börjat krångla och kroppen började säga ifrån. Standard att vara låg/trött/orolig/ingenting. Fick ta brikanyl efter maten ibland, fick dra in på raster ibland för att jag pallade inte att vara i ett rum själv/eller slappna av >_<. 

Vinter 2014-2015 Äter “skolmaten”. Vanligt att sex gör ont. Jag får mer och mer jobbigt med andningen och lukter. Märker att lägenheten ligger precis vid ett stort garageutsug. Plus att i vissa vindriktningar kommer lukten från motorvägen in i lägenheten. BAD. Jag hamnar hos mamma och börjar fundera hur FAN...jag ska göra. Har lagt ihop 1+1 och märkt att jag reagerar på lukter och att det kanske är en del av varför jag mår som jag mår. Kanske inte är panikångest utan astma. Fixar ny lägenhet toknära skogen och så långt bort från stora vägen som möjligt. T och jag gör i stort sett slut och ska “hitta oss själva”. Jag märker att jag måste klara mig alltmer själv. Men nya lägenheten hjälper. Inga obehagliga lukter (som annars kräver MAGNESIUM för att ta hand om, no joke). Jag får för mig att gå tillbaka till min mer gamla kost. Plus sånt som jag ens vågar äta själv. Jag äter långsamt, mer näringsrikt, slappnar av och tar lyxduschar för att jag ville (väldigt främjande för magnesiumnivån). Jag börjar märka STOR skillnad. MER energi och rastlöshet vaknar. Sex slutar göra ont (what??). Jag klarar mig själv allt mer, sover till och med själv här flera gånger. Han är knappt inte här mer än när han skulle sova. Jag klarar det utan större krussiduller. Börjar övningsköra typ här?? utan problem. Fixar nästan körkortet. Några gånger blir det sämre (kan varit när fettintaget blev för högt - drar magnesium) men överlag ENORM skillnad. Börjar känna igen mitt gamla jag och någon deemar mig nu som fri från panikångesten. 

Stress av bråk och andra fysiska aktiviteter dränerar en del. Men jag är ändå hyfsat stark. Cyklar nu hit och dit, tvättar utan problem och klarar mig mer själv. Min kropp mår mycket bättre.  Mitt trygga lilla liv jag levt innan börjar kännas som pensionärafton. Större utmaningar börjar tas.  

Stressen av att kanske bryta upp och bli egen blir större och mer jobbig. Börjar smyga in tröstätning och sämre mat igen. Typ vi bråkar och sen äh vi åker in och äter där - som tröst. 

Han flyttar hit grejer mer och mer och vi bestämmer för att satsa på oss. Alla grejer stinker gamla lägenheten, luften blir sämre (drar magnesium), stressen ökar (drar magnesium) och mitt tröstätande/vi går ut och äter för han vill - ökar (drar magnesium).     

Jag märker att jag mår sämre igen och får “konstiga grejer som händer med kroppen”. Hela systemet blir mer känsligt. Börjar läsa på, hittar nåt om magnesium som jag fastnar för. DET ska jag prova. Köper magnesiumoljor, donat mg och salvor. Nu JÄKLAR. Magnesiumoljan var otrolig i början. Jag kände ett ökat lugn och den blev min goto drog. Dock började den jääävligt skumma bieffekter som gjorde att jag kände mig hög, va i en bubbla, kände mig onykter och faaaaalalaaaaaaa. Det var ändå ok men sen började det dra konstigt vid hjärtat och jag blev mer som i en dimma. Näe...this has to go. Donat mg också fantastiskt. Klarade mig mer igen själv och ex kom ihåg att cykelsadeln blev 7 gånger mjukare efter donat och jag klarade att cykla hem igen när han cyklat till ica utan krussiduller. Sedan...började jag mixtra med maten och skulle maxa magnesium genom att börja HÄVA i mig nötter (fet mat dra magnesium). Det funkade dag ett för att lugna ner men dag två var jag in hell. Kroppen mådde INTE bra, fick sämre andning och stress igen. Fettdiarrén dök upp. NOPE. Magnesiumkrånglet gör att jag inte orkar längre och släpper hela grejen. Försöker fokusera på att äta det “jag mår bra av” och det ger plats för alla möjliga saker. 

Mår sämre, äter återigen skolmaten - ökar i vikt. Kommer in i försöka överleva igen. Samlar ihop mig och slutar äta skolmaten och tar med egen snacks - typ frukter och nötter. Kosten börjar städas upp någorlunda igen. Mycket stress på jobbet och olika fysiska aktiviteter (streetdance/militärträning/långa promenader etc) börjar återigen take it’s toll. Jag fixar det men barely.

Byter jobb, också hög stress men kul. Drar in fotöljen som stinker upp HELA lägenheten av rök inom några dagar och försämrar luften MARKANT(dränerar magnesium). Lever i soffan och brikanyl som knappt hjälper. HÖG stress och konstant jobbigt att andas. Han kan inte öppna sovrumsdörren mer än 5 sekunder utan att jag får en allvarlig astmattack och tjippar efter luft (återigen, tecken på magnesiumbrist då kroppen inte kan hantera gifterna + för lite magnesium för att reglera viktiga saker i kroppen). Försöker äta typ ok, åt en del på skolan men gick över mer till egen mat då jag märkte att orken försvann (magnesium behövs för det är en stor energikälla i kroppen) och andningen/magen blev sämre (IBS - tecken på långvarig avsaknad av magnesium). Stressen av jobbet och träning blir påfrestande och jag orkar inte äta lika bra. Det blir mer bare essentials. Det här funkar nog, typ. 

Vår 2020. Börjar se tecken på kroppen. Håret har blivit markant tunnare, mer livlöst, torrt och grå hårstrån dykt upp (återigen vanliga tecken på magnesiumbrist). Jag börjar känna mig utbränd och behöver vila. Vilar. Alla fysiska ansträngande aktiviteter dras ned till nästan noll. Får nåt jääävla obehagligt tryck över gallblåsan (seriöst också magnesiumbristvarning) och stressen ledde till tankar på att jag svävade i livsfara. Gallblåsekost drar igång. Drar på mig hög feber och stress av corona och hela får inte smitta T. Äter alvedon på tom mage och dricker pellegrino - får magkatarr. Måste in i skonkost igen. Börjar skonkostmånaden. Mat som är bra för magkatarr OCH gallblåsan...ett jävla trassel. Jag rasar i vikt. Har konstant tryck och ont i magen och över gallblåsan. Mer stress (dränerar magnesium). 3 Juni dyker ett STARKT behov av att börja äta yoghurt. Jag mår bättre och gallblåsan verkar gilla det. Mindre ont. Ökar på (>_<) yoghurten för att jag är livrädd för att bli för mager. 1-2 liter yoghurt OM DAGEN i 2 veckor. Sen börjar sömnen bli wacko. sover max 5 timmar. Min ork börjar tryta. Fortsätter dock denna kosthållning. Sover allt sämre. Ökar fysisk aktivitet för att jag ändå känner mig lite piggare. ..får för mig att övningsköra en morgon utan mina trygghetsgrejer och det börjar dra i fötter och armar (kroppen drar magnesium ur skelettet??) som ökade stressen. 

Börjar märka...skumma saker när jag ska gå och lägga mig. Som att mörka tankar kommer över mig och sova blir mer scary. Vaknar av en mardröm att en kvinna ler och ska kväva mig i sängen med en svart plastsäck. Asäckligt. Går upp och ska göra lugnande te och märker att benen knappt bär mig. Gråter massor (spenderad kraft/energi) “somnar” några timmar. Vaknar i totalt kaos. Nu är det 140 knyck och kommer inte ner i varv. Duschen stressar, soffan stressar, märker att jag inte kan stå upp och får be T i panik att göra spenat/svarta bönor till mig. Äter tre bananer i ett svep, dricker en pellegrino, en kiwi och proppar i mig magnesiumrik kost. Efter spenatröran går det ÄNTLIGEN ner. Men han får sitta och hålla mig i handen i soffan. TERRIFIED och akuten är nära. Mår bättre av det jag äter och blir piggare. Dagen efter får jag för mig att återigen äta en stor skål med yoghurt OCH hampafrön för att balansera magnesiumet. Men hampafröna reagerar jag på och de driver istället ur magnesium och det blir...SÄMRE.

Dagen D. Jag har nu urholkat magnesiumet så illa att när jag ska sova så börjar det kännas som om kroppen fullkomligt driver ur nåt ur mina händer, armar och ben och det känslan driver längre och längre in mot kroppen. Det gör ONT. Konstanta ryckben, 25 gånger på toan EN natt. “Sover” 1 timme. ... vaknar i det mest mörka jag varit med om. Jag har inte kraft att få panik/gråta. Jag kan inte stå/gå. Det trycker ILLA över bröstet...Jag känner bara att MAGNESIUM- NU. Jag ber T hjälpa mig för jag ramlar när jag står upp. Jag ligger sen i sängen och PROPPAR i mig magnesiumrik mat och känner hur mörkret är nära. Hur jag MÅSTE tänka på varför jag lever och vad det är jag vill uppleva i mitt liv. Akuten är nära och han får hålla min hand. Det hjälper knappt. Maten räcker knappt och dagen efter då jag inte lyckas lugna ner mig tillräckligt (men ändå mycket bättre) åker vi iväg och får några magnesiumtabletter. De hjälper men har svartpepparextrakt och citronsyra och magen börjar efter par dagar gnälla. Bestämmer mig för att att så fort jag orkar tokläsa på återigen om magnesium och märker att hav/sjöar/vatten är rika källor. Mina actual magnesiumtabletter jag beställde fastnade i Finland så jag tar till duschen som lösning. Det hjälper gång på gång. 

Idag har jag ändå fått sova 5-6 timmar (plus lite strötimmar) flera dagar i sträck och igår orkade jag gå till bilden fram och tillbaka (ca 2km) och jag vaknar nu mer “som vanligt” förutom att det fortfarande gör ont över bröstet efter den galna anspänningen. Jag har gjort mer “avancerad” mat och orkat stå i köket. Jag är överlag mycket lugnare men kan brusa upp lite/skratta/gråta utan att det ger kaos. Bättre. Mer hel. 

Samtidigt så gav den här jävla stekpannan rakt i solar plexus ett uppvaknande som hette duga. Jag ba WHOAH- det är ju fan DET HÄR som spökat i fan 20 år! Granted så har jag fått PTSD på grund av det men det kanske går att jobba bort när man inte DÖR lite hela tiden >_<. 

Mitt behov för havet har bara ökat. Mer förståelse för flera händelser då jag var asplöv TILL Grand Canaria och ville seriöst åka hem till mamma (ja..så bad blev det) första dagen. Till att inte bara stanna och toktrivas (bada hela dagarna - magnesium OCH mineralpåfyllning ) och till och med bli UTTRÅKAD på hemresan. SÅ.jävla.Weird.Skillnad. 2016 var första gången jag ville ge mig ut i världen och inte bada sönder mig. Förmodligen då 2015 var året då jag maxade magnesium mer än nåt år innan.  Jag hade inte stressat så jag behövde inte vila och fylla på med mineraler på samma sätt. 

Annorlunda sommar och semester. Helt klart ner i källaren och rensa sommar. Sol och bad och skoj var inte på tapeten i år. Nu var det snarare rycka bort allt för att rensa bort mögelskadan bakom. 

Nu kanske...KANSKE... jag får återgå till den jag är igen.

Jeg sidder og lytter til Det Elektriske Barometer på podcast

Jeg har svært ved at begribe, at det faktisk er årevis siden, det var en konstant i mit liv, og det faktisk ikke rigtigt har eksisteret i lang tid nu.

Det er podcastet fra den sidste udsendelse i december 2014, jeg lytter til nu. Jeg sad og syede hvide stjerner på en sweater og hyggede mig, imens jeg drømte mig tilbage til en helt anden tid, og så satte Mads Beach House’ Zebra på. Jeg vil ikke beskrive det som om, at jeg blev flået tilbage, men jeg kunne pludselig tydeligt mærke en helt bestemt følelse i mit hjerte. Lidt et ekko af et levn fra den vinter i 2010, da jeg første gang hørte det nummer blive spillet i Barometeret, og pludselig kom jeg i tanke om, at Nis kommer på besøg i morgen. Det var lidt en underlig følelse. Ikke noget at skrive hjem om som sådan, men stadig bare… mærkeligt. For der er milevidt mellem dem Ida, jeg var i 2010, til den Ida, jeg sidder og er i dag. Efter Zebra blev Re. Stacks spillet, og jeg var et øjeblik lige ved at begynde at græde over hvor smukt den sang er, men også hvor meget den og de breve, jeg og alle mulige andre sendte ind til programmet, og som blev læst op til lyden af lige netop den sang, egentlig betød for mig som individ, og sikkert også for den person, jeg er i dag. Alligevel er jeg kommet så utroligt langt, og i næste uge starter jeg på universitetet. Det er tre år siden, jeg gik ud af gymnasiet. Det er syv år siden, jeg startede på efterskole. Det føles meget nostalgisk det hele, og måske er det også fjollet, men det gør faktisk lidt ondt ikke længere at være der, i fortiden. Bare lige pludselig. Jeg synes nogle gange, det hele kan blive lidt fladt, det med at skulle være voksen og tage stilling til fremtiden på en hel ny måde. Det der med for alvor at have ansvar for sin egen fremtid, det er helt mærkeligt. Det er faktisk ikke spor rart at blive voksen. 

Nej, det er ikke fordi magien er forsvundet. Det er bare ikke det samme længere. Jeg kan blive så ufatteligt modløs, for alle fremtidsmuligheder kan virke så trivielle. Jeg kan ikke helt forklare hvorfor. Selvfølgelig skal man udvikle sig igennem hele livet, men det kan komme som et chok, når man pludselig opdager, hvor lang tid, der faktisk er gået. Tænk at der var engang, hvor jeg boede hjemme og klagede over gymnasieafleveringer, og jeg cyklede til skole på min racercykel hver morgen, der hvor jeg lyttede til Disintegration for første gang, og hvor meget The Cure betød for mig, hvor vigtigt det var; dengang hvor Nis var min bedste ven i hele verden, og vi cyklede lange ture hver sommer, og vi sad på taget af hans folkeskole og talte om tingene og lyttede til vinyler på hans kæmpe pude hjemme i Allerød; dengang Gustav hed Theodor og jeg både elskede og hadede ham og jeg tror aldrig, jeg sidenhen har oplevelet noget så intenst. Måske er det bare noget jeg bilder mig ind? Og jeg skrev en hel masse breve til Barometeret for bare at dele det med nogen, for hold kæft hvor var det ensomt nogle gange.  Nu bor jeg ikke hjemme hos min mor længere, men i en helt anden by og med min kæreste. Vi har lige hængt en sollampe op og sat hvad der ser ud som hundredevis af selvlysende stjerner op i loftet, men det er aldrig helt det samme.  Jeg går ikke længere i gymnasiet, kæmper ikke længere med oldtidskundskab og dansk og samfundsfag. Jeg har suppleret matematik?! Jeg fik 10? Hvordan gik dét lige til. På mandag har jeg introuge på universitetet.  Nis og jeg ses måske tre eller fire gange om året. Vi er stadig venner, men jeg snakker næsten aldrig med ham, og vi er begge vokset meget siden dengang. Jeg tror, vi endte med at gro lidt mere fra hinanden. Det har været svært at acceptere, men nu tænker jeg ikke så meget på det længere. Det samme med Gustav. Nu er han bare Gustav, og jeg har ikke snakket med ham i over et år. Jeg har ikke rørt ved ham siden februar 2015. Nu er det egentlig mere bare et fjernt minde; vi kender ikke hinanden længere. Hvordan groede jeg nogensinde ud af den kærlighed? Det forstår jeg ikke. 

Jeg har det som om, jeg har mistet kampgejsten et eller andet sted i alle voksennødvendighederne. For tiden har jeg rigtig svært ved at forstå, hvordan jeg havnede her. Det er ikke fordi, jeg ikke kan lide det. Pludselig har jeg det bare som om, jeg i virkeligheden ikke har oplevet de seneste tre år, men bare er blevet spolet frem i tiden.

Deaths related to atrial fibrillation have declined over the last 45 years, researchers report.

But the increasingly common condition still takes an average of two years off of a person’s life, compared to three years back in the 1970s and early 1980s, a new study in the journal BMJ shows.

“The prognosis of individuals with atrial fibrillation has improved over time, but atrial fibrillation is still associated with a major gap in life expectancy as compared to individuals without atrial fibrillation,” says senior author Ludovic Trinquart, associate professor of biostatistics at Boston University.

The researchers used data from the multigenerational Framingham Heart Study, the longest-running cardiovascular health study in the United States.

“The Framingham Heart Study is one of the only studies in the world that allow studying such temporal trends,” says lead author Nicklas Vinter, a physician at Silkeborg Regional Hospital and doctoral student at Aarhus University in Denmark.

The researchers analyzed health data from three generations of Framingham Heart Study participants from 1972 to 2015, tracking the likelihood of a participant dying 10 years after an atrial fibrillation diagnosis, compared with someone of the same age, sex, and with otherwise similar health.

In the first period (1972-1985), a participant with atrial fibrillation lived an average of 2.9 fewer years 10 or more years after diagnosis than a comparison participant without atrial fibrillation.

In the second period (1986-2000) the gap narrowed to 2.1 years, and in the third period (2001-2015) it was 2.0 years.

“Improvement in the excess mortality associated with atrial fibrillation may be explained by continued improvements in early detection, management, and treatment,” Trinquart says. “But the findings of this new study highlight that atrial fibrillation remains a very serious condition. Advances in prevention will be essential to stem the epidemic of atrial fibrillation and reduce its associated mortality.”

Additional coauthors are from Boston University and Aarhus University.

Innovation and Product Development through Open Source Software vs Intellectual Property

Hi! Welcome to my blog… I’m currently taking a class on Open Source for the Common Good at UVA, and I’ve decided to create a blog to keep everyone updated about the global issues on technology related to Open Source Software and Intellectual Property under the law.

I will define concepts and then continue to state the advantages and disadvantages of both technologies in regards to product development and innovation, and provide examples in case the word choice gets complicated, or if this is your first time here…

Glossary:

*Some of the definitions used were taken of the web and are only in relation to the subject*

Open Source Software (OSS): A software distributed under a licensing agreement which permits the code to be shared and edited by other parties. This means that anyone who knows how, can use and modify open source software completely free of charge. (Software Advisory Service, Open Source vs Licensed Software)

Licensed Software: A proprietary software distributed under a licensing agreement to authorized users only. (Software Advisory Service, Open Source vs Licensed Software)

Intellectual Property (IP): Refers to creations, such as codes, artistic work, or inventions that are protected by the law with patents, copyright or trademarks for the proprietary to earn recognition or financial benefits.

Open Source Software and Intellectual Property have an ongoing public debate about which is better, or more important. Trying to find an answer in the internet may be extensive work and very tiering, so in this post I will try to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of OS and IP in innovations and product development.

Advantages:

Just to make sure we are on the right track, in simple terms OS is free information for the public. Basically, when someone studies a certain topic and discovers new information, and decides to share the information with the public, allowing them to use it and modify it for the own good. IP is when information is protected by the law by patents, copyright and

trademarks, which gives financial returns to the person who invented it.

After reading many articles I was able to select the advantages that I believe build stronger cases, when comparing OS + IP on product development.

Open Source on PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Advantages

Security and Quality: Since the code is open to anyone for free, the code is constantly being reviewed and receiving attention, so that decreases the chance of finding bugs, which is crucial when developing a product because it is very important to be flexible.

Initial Costs: The starting cost of the software is $0, this means that it is very inclusive to anyone who might be developing a product and has limited resources. And because more people are working on the code, you don’t have to pay thousands every time there is a bug.

Customization: When creating a business, things can easily change and the software needs to adapt accordingly. The agility of the code comes in handy with an OSS because there are no rigid restrictions to the code.

Disadvantages

Long term Costs: Even though OSS may look appealing then starting a business, it is very important to take into consideration that there are many additional costs that the user may be not taking into consideration such as, improved security, continuous innovation, improved functionality, and facing issues with compatibility.

Support: Since the code is free, and it is open to anyone, in case there are damages or viruses, there is no support team to help. To file a complaint you will probably have to fill extensive documentation. The attention is not optimal since "there are no customers"

Usability: Since the OS inventors are not trying to sell their software, they don’t put a lot of attention in user friendliness. This means that not a lot of time is given to creating manuals, and are usually written for other developers only.

Intellectual Property on PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Advantages

Security: Your creations, processes, concepts and ideas are legally protected, preventing others from copying or stealing your work without you being benefit by this. When developing a product, it is crucial to maintain originality in order to be competitive

Enhancing Market Value: Selling, licensing or commercializing your products can generate income, resulting in an increase in your profits. When you are developing a product, receiving income is very important. Being able to win money back from the initial investment is always good. Specially because protecting your product is costly.

Disadvantages

Complex: Protecting your products legally includes extensive research. There are many different licenses that you need to explore in order find the one right for you (trademarks, copyright, patents, etc.). The entire process may take a long time and without the help of an expert finding the right license may be useless.

Cost: Protecting your creations, processes, concepts and ideas comes with a HIGH cost. Filling patent applications to protect something may take a lot of time and money. Specially if you have a complex product that will require the services of an expert. All these expenses may come in extra when starting a business.

Experts on this matter have not yet reach a unanimous decision on which of these technologies is better for the evolution of our fast-paced world, so you don’t have to reach one either, but I hope this blog post helped you understand better why this issue is important to our daily lives!

Hi Zero Seventy-Three features readings and performances from Dolly Turing & Sally-Shakti Willow, Samuel James, and Rosy Carrick, upstairs at the Hope & Ruin on Tuesday 29th October. Here they are: Dolly Turing & Sally-Shakti Willow Sally-Shakti Willow researches, writes and performs utopian poetics as ritual to open up [r]evolutionary space for positive transformation. Sally-Shakti’s poetic rituals include ‘radical doula’ a poem for the Rise Up & Repeal anthology (Sad Press 2019), which was written with the intention of performing a ritual/role/service as a ‘long-distance doula’ for the birthing of conscious and supported abortion practices in Ireland following the vote to Repeal the 8th Amendment in 2018. She sometimes teaches/has taught literature, poetry, creative writing and Wellbeing When Writing at the University of Westminster. Poetry publications to date: The Unfinished Dream (Sad Press, 2016) and Atha (Knives Forks and Spoons Press, 2019). Forthcoming: [un].holy: 33 sonnets for Brigid and Writing Utopia, an anthology of utopian poetics co-edited with Sarer Scotthorne (both with Hesterglock Press, 2020).   Dolly Turing works in poetry, sound, play, ritual, magic. They love collaborations, resonance, dissonance; finding new, open, transformative ways to tell stories, and remembering to tell the cosmic joke. One growing, evolving thing they are working on is Quest)ion), a poetry meets soundscape ritual about what it is to love places: real and imaginary, spirits, stories and nothingness. What responsibilities do our ancestors leave us with? What is belonging? What is ‘home’? The other, Play Stance, explores play as transmutation, metamorphosis and meaning cookery. The two overlap, both with a side of queerness, and invoking of high/hard spirits. Their first pamphlet OH (PARA)COSMIC BEING came out with The Vinter Olympiks in October 2016. They have had work published by Datableed and Litmus and music out on Contour Records. Their poem The Past’s Future in Ignota’s Spells anthology was described as a “bold anthem”  in The New Statesman (wtf). Together, Sally-Shakti and Dolly have written and performed a series of collaborative anti-racist dub-ritual-poems for the Original Plus Dub anthology (Hesterglock Press, 2019) and Freedom of Movement – a ritual-poetry-protest-anti-Brexit-performance at the mid-point between Article 50 and the initial Brexit date, with Yael Karavan & Xelís de Torro. Their work at October’s Hi Zero is both a new beginning and continuation of this process. + Rosy Carrick Rosy's first full poetry collection, Chokey, was published in 2018 by Burning Eye Books. For the last decade she has hosted the poetry stages at Latitude and Glastonbury festivals, and is also co-curator of the Port Eliot festival poetry stage. Rosy has a PhD on the poetry of Vladimir Mayakovsky and has released two books of his work in translation: Volodya (Enitharmon, 2015) and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (Smokestack, 2017). Last year, Rosy's debut play Passionate Machine won the Best New Play award at Brighton Fringe and The Infallibles Award for Theatrical Excellence at Edinburgh Fringe. This year she has been alternately touring that show and working on Musclebound, a new project about the politics of the eroticised torture of male bodybuilders in 1980s Hollywood films.
