Teardown of the Peerless electric motor for the Boice-Crane 2304 bandsaw. "It was running when we got it" was the phrase used. I think not. It was a good thing I decided to check this motor out. Seized bearing, shaft turning in the race, missing/damaged insulation, no connection to the starter brushes, etc... Even if it would have started it would have self distructed very quickly. Now, replace bearings, repair wiring and insulation issues, then figure out the starter circuit wiring for the brushes. I picked up a Boice-Crane 2300 series bandsaw this weekend. Not in terrible mechanical shape, but cosmetically it is rough. It's also missing the hand wheel for the blade tension adjustment. I think it maybe a 2304 model because it's just a single speed without the gearbox reduction. It does have the stepped pulleys on the motor and saw. Santa Claus made a early delivery at the shop yesterday... I finally found a "snowflake" style bandsaw that was close enough and priced affordable. I picked up a Boise-Crane Handisaw C-200 bandsaw from 1930's. It needs some work, it's missing the lower aluminum "snowflake" design wheel cover but it was it working condition. Also picked up a DeWalt MBF 245 radial arm saw. I'll be going back after the first of the year, hopefully, to pick up a Craftsman/King-Seeley shaper with a ton of cutters and a Morso foot operated miter. Thank you to my wife, who has graciously put up with me dragging back pieces of rusty iron and tools that look like they'll give you tetnus just from looking at them. She's one of a kind and I love her!
