Have you ever slept in an igloo? I’m guessing most of you will say no... me neither, but now I’m gutted I didn’t think about it when I was in Antarctica. ::: We found this igloo at Low Camp at Vinson. Well with #vinsonmassif around the corner, and then Aconcagua in February, followed by Denali a few months later, God willingly, I was comparing gear lists... hummm.... and last week I ordered a few extra things... essentials... a girl needs choices....and from @arcteryx ...a new warm toque, the FIREBEE AR Hoody, which packs into a small pack of its own, the Gamma MX Hoody as a soft shell and wind barrier layer ( I am a little tired of my current one from @thenorthface . A balaclava, gloves...and I also got odds and ends from @mec , like liner gloves to go with my @redfox_outdoor mittens I had bought in Russia for Elbrus.. a few extra carabiners and a pee bottle... yeah... maybe this will be another post to explain that one! Although this looks like a summit of any random snow covered mountain, it certainly is not. It’s the top of the highest peak in Antarctica, Mount Vinson. Union Glacier is a gateway to all the expeditions in Antarctica, wether it’s Mount Vinson, skiing the last degree, South Pole or just tourist trip for the fun of it, you always go through Union Glacier ::: The green tents behind me is what they call a hotel... for the right reason as it resembles more a hotel room than a tent itself. ::: A lot of you ask me about the cost of the expedition. I won’t quote the exact figure, cause you can google that easily. All I’m gonna say is that it is a lot when you first look at it. One of the videos I could watch a thousand times... the summit of Vinson, 4892m, the highest mountain in Antarctica. It was so special for a number of reasons. As you may already know, it’s my 5th summit of the #7summits 🙌 it’s also my 7th and final continent that I finally visited and last but not least it’s an incredibly beautiful place that I got to see. ::: Less than 200 people summit mount Vinson every year. Happy Thanksgiving weekend! Last year I was climbing #cartensz pyramid, which became my first of the #7summits and I can’t believe now I already completed 3 of them. This weekend though I will be enjoying my family and friends as we celebrate Thanksgiving. But as my climb to #vinsonmassif is fast approaching I took advantage yesterday and today of the new gym @officialfridayharbour and used the stair climber, with my backpack of course. Even though from the stair climber I only see the Marina and homes, on the screen I can virtually pretend I am hiking. Ok, well it’s training since I don’t have a huge mountain here. And if I close my eyes I can envision the view at the top on Vinson and it motivates me to train harder. My countdown has officially started as we leave on November 17 to Chile and then make our way to Union Glacier on the 26. Well, hope to see you on October the 27 for soulcycle? Yup, this is my first boomerang pic, courtesy of Tyler @circafit where I started training. Yesterday among other things I pulled this sled, 95lbs... I made the decision to start training a few days a week with a personal trainer, as training alone has started to play tricks on my mind! I want to be strong for my upcoming marathon on behalf of @peaksforchange and then strong and ready for our climb of #vinsonmassif with @antarcticlogistics in November. I am an only child, and therefore I learned to amuse myself. I learned to have imaginary friends, play alone... and now I train alone. But today I couldn’t resist being silly on the little bit of snow left.
