A vast array of talented comics artists and writers, spanning more than a half century of work and encompassing dozens of the most popular franchises in the history of the medium through the present, will be on hand as FAN EXPO Philadelphia today announced the Artist Alley headliners for the convention, set for May 3-5 at the Pennsyvlavnia Convention Center. lovely day. really.

woke up with mei and had a very long sleep in until almost midday. mei’s window gets really nice morning sun which we took full advantage of while we were both very sleepy.

got to the gallery 10 minutes late because traffic was abysmal. sat outside the gallery doing admin and reading because it was so dark inside (Elise’s show is so nice) and finished my book. worked on firstdraft proposal. Shane came a bit late but in good spirits (his friends mitch won the ********* prize last night so why the fuck wouldnt he be?!) and we sorted out me delivering a table to his place in the very near future. 

drove home listened to my CDs i got from vinnies (Beethoven sonata no 7 and All Saints) there was backburning in hornsby so the whole city was layered in smoke and smelled so nice. kept working on my proposals. had a bath for like an hour. zoned out for a few hours hanging out with mum. 

might start doing diary entries again. they are nice.

Projected - Human

When musicians from established bands form a new project they automatically get branded with the term 'supergroup.' The inclusion of the word super as well as well known names leads to massive expectations, ones that not everyone can exceed. Combined, John Connolly, Vinnie Hornsby, Scott Phillips and Eric Friedman are involved in five other bands; how does Projected's debut album fair?

The intro sets up an intense beginning to the record with Hello emerging from the shadows full pelt with its brutal, heavy riffs. It sets the bar high and epitomises what the group are trying to achieve. The album is Connolly's first outing as a lead vocalist, sounding powerful and confident he delivers emotive lyrics with feeling. So Low is a perfect example of this, despite the bruising accompaniment, Connolly's vocals float over the top with a commanding presence. Each member plays their part in creating these raucous, hard hitting tracks, everything clicks together brilliantly. 12804 is a heartfelt tribute to the late, great Dimebag Darrell and features some great counter melodies by Friedman on guitar. Towards the latter end of the album the tracks are still as strong and have been crafted with care and attention to create a solid debut album.

While they may be stuck with the term 'supergroup,' it is clear Projected aren't just a group who had a bit of spare time on their hands, they have put a lot of hard work and dedication into making a record that reflects them as a collective. Incorporating elements of their primary bands, they have created a form of melodic metal to appeal to their respective fan bases. Here's to hoping there's a window for them to take it out on the road!
