Viishy
(Zehzhic: Vyyši [ˈvˠɨː.ʂi])
Viishy is the generic term given to all inhabitants of Tuoni/Orya (Z: Örjä [ˈø.rʲa], Öřäh [ˈø.r̝æħ]). This term is usually forgotten in place of “Zehzhic” despite the fact that “Zehzhic” refers to only one ethnic group while Viishy refers to the species as a whole— it's like aliens calling all humans Americans.
Viishy resemble humans from the regions of Sudan–Egypt, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Baltics, Eastern Fennoscandia, Siberia, Korea, and Japan with average heights ranging from 150cm to 220cm depending on (non-human-related) ethnicity. Some have sharper teeth and/or pointed ears or are missing a digit on their hands. Lifespans are typically 250years on the low end but can easily be in the high hundreds or even thousands with some Viishy even being biologically immortal; this however is due to the individual’s aptitude for magic.
The biggest difference between Viishy and humans is that they are able to naturally perform magic (Z: vyħ [vˠɨx]). While humans cannot perform natural magic and instead rely on wands and precharged spells, all Viishy have the innate ability to cast and create spells and most are born with one or two natural abilities which very person to person (but usually are hereditary).
They resemble humans from the specific regions mentioned above since they were created through an event that mutated certain humans in those very regions thousands of years ago. The mutations allowed the newly created Viishy to be able to use magic. At a certain point in history, all Viishy were forcefully removed from Earth (Žeħa [ˈʐɛ.xɐ]) and transplanted onto Orya. The location of Earth was then lost for thousands of years until it was found again in 2073 by an Elensian research team. The Elensians immediately sent out ships to reclaim the “lost homeland”, determining humans to be less evolved and not subject to the same universal rights awarded to the viishy. This led to them destroying many Earth cities, killing humans, and enslaving humans which in turn led to a war between humans and the Viishy as well as a war between the many viishy countries.

The Ser
(Z: Seri [ˈs̪eri], Ser&N.Zehzhic: Sri [sʲɨ̥rʲi])
The Ser are native to only three locations: the continent of Taiva [ˈt̪ɑj.vɐ] where there's a small population living on the northern coast and two populations living on the northmost continent of Sevkra [ˈsʲev.krə] where the majority of them live in the capital city Voden (Vođen [ˈvo.ð̪ɛn]) and a smaller population lives in the region of Kavonia (Kavója [kɑˈvo.jɐ]), centred around the city of Kavo [ˈkɑ.vo]. Each of these three populations speak a different dialect of Ser: Taiva Ser speak, consequently, Taiva Ser (Z: taivaseryk [t̪əj.və̥ˈs̪e.rɨx], Ser: taive [ˈt̪ɑj.ʋe]) which is not mutually intelligible with the Voden (Z: vođenseryk [vo.ðɪn̪ˈs̪e.rɨx], S: vođ'nji [ˈʋoð.nʲji]) and Kavonian (Z: kavoseryk [kɐ.voˈs̪e.rɨx], S: kavoji [kɑˈʋo.ji]) varieties of Ser, which are mutually intelligible to a much greater degree. Northern Zehzhic has been heavily influenced by Voden Ser in much the same way English was affected by Norman French, that being said, the Ser dialects are endangered.
The Ser originally developed from humans living in central to east Asia, and their culture and appearance reflects this, especially with the Taiva Ser. Sevkra Ser have integrated more into the Zehzhic population— this is why Northern Zehzhics appear far different from their Elensian roots. Ser are also usually more gifted in terms of magical ability, leading them to have sharper features (ears, teeth, facial structure) and live longer (~300–400 years), but consequently this also leads to higher infant mortality. The Ser only make up 0.00001% of the Viishy population, making them the second least populous ethnic group, after the Vashi.
Traditional Ser beliefs dictate that magic is apart of one’s soul and to suppress someone's magic is an offense to the gods. For the rest of the world, children are “cursed” to have their magic abilities suppressed until the age of 20 so that they can be trained in magic and be evaluated for magic anomalies and even so that they can be magically neutered if they are classified too powerful (classes of SS, SSS, and U). This is to prevent child mortality and insure individuals are responsible enough for their magic (the neutering of powerful individuals, while extremely controversial, is to prevent people having near-god like abilities). The Ser don't do this and as a result infant and child mortality rates are quite high.
Culturally the Ser worship the gods of nature and the titans (the gods of the gods), the latter belief causes other Viishy cultures to accuse them of heresy since worship of the titans is seen as arrogant. Because of this and their appearance they are called demeaning terms like “Varđelli” [vɐrˈðel.lɪ], meaning “The ones burned/curse by demons”— this is made worse in that the word Ser in Zehzhic means “grey” or “ash”. Ser are far more peaceful than the Zehzhic and tend towards cultural passivism, but also boast some of the best martial arts and weapon craftsmanships, even moreso than the warring Zehzhic. Ser magic is based on hand forms and tattooed seals and it's not uncommon for a Ser to be fully tattooed with various magic seals.
Additionally Sevkra Ser specialised in cave-building and created vast underground cities due to the harsh frozen landscape of Sevkra (think Antarctica but far far worse). The techniques they developed led to the creation of the modern Sevkran cities that exist as vast urban megacities hundreds of kilometres beneath the permafrost.
Humans call the Ser from Sevkra “Frost/Snow Elves” and Taiva Ser “(High) Elves”. Most Ser find the word “elf” as pejorative.
The main character of my story is half Kavonian Ser and half Northern Zehzhik and was raised in the Ser culture.

Northern Federation Guns
Viishy “firearms” are not like those you find on earth. They function as so: magazines are filled with a special kind of pressurised gas. When the weapon is primed (the slide is racked) a cycle is started where gas fills a chamber and becomes a solid bolt the size of a sewing needle. Some if the gas powers the gun which then accelerates the bolt to speed and shoots it from the gun— the cycle is then repeated. The bolts flatten upon hitting an object so that all it's kinetic energy is spread out across a larger surface area. These weapons are extremely devastating.
Tumblr media
The NFS pistol is a 120-round semiautomatic weapon that's bolts deliver 5kJ of energy. It weighs 0,23kg
Tumblr media
This is the NFS’s version of the “assault rifle”. It's short, only about 55cm or so and 2,2kg, but extremely powerful. It's bolts carry about 10kJ of energy and each magazine holds 200 bolts and the gun fires at a rate of 1000 bolts/min. It's selector lever is on the right side above the magazine and has options for single (middle), burst (under), and auto (above). The charging handle is above the magazine on the left.
Tumblr media
The NFS DMR is a long-range semiautomatic weapon. It has a selection lever for small bolts and large bolts. Small bolts have 20kJ of energy and effective range up to 2km and the magazine holds 60 rounds. Large bolts have 40kJ of energy and effective range of up to 5km and the magazine holds 30 of these rounds. It's about 1m long and weighs 3kg and the charging handle is located on the left of the gun.
Tumblr media
The NFS Sniper is a long- to extremely long-range bolt action weapon. It has no safety and the bolt is what controls the size of the round. The smallest round has 15kJ of energy and range of 3km and the magazine can produce 60 of these rounds, the longest stroke of the bolt produces a round with about 300kJ of energy and a maximum range of eye-of-sight and the magazine can only produce 3 of these rounds. The only safety feature on the weapon is the run indicator which is red when active and grey when safe. To disarm the weapon the handle is twisted to 90° in any direction. The gun is 1m long and weighs 3,5kg.
Tumblr media
The final rifle in the NFS’s arsenal is the special forces DMR/carbine. This weapon is only 60cm long. It is essentially a combination of the assault rifle and DMR. Located above the magazine (with is located at the front of the weapon) are two selectors, one determines if the weapon is in assault or DMR mode, the other selects the size of the round for the DMR or if the weapon is in burst or auto for assault mode. For the assault mode the gun has 120 rounds at 10kJ. In DMR mode that's 60 rounds at 20kJ for small rounds and 30 rounds at 40kJ for large rounds. The charging handle is located on the left side at the front near the muzzle.

The Vashian Branch
Considered the most archaic branch of the Viishy language family, the Vashian branch is made up of two languages: Vashian and Naishic. Naishic has changed the much between the two in relation to the original tongue Old Viishy (Vyykaiic).
Example: “I wanted to speak with you about yesterday.”
Old Viishy:
“Wu i đava 3an ľasi van i yaqa rew.”
want [past] speak I you with [past] day about
Vashian:
“Vodžav3ayn lašvan iyqaro.”
vo-džav-3a(y)n laš-van iyqa-ro
want.speak.1s.(PST) 2s.COM yesterday-DEL
Naishic:
“3awžway wašen igar.”
3a-w-žwa-y waš-en iga-r
1s.want.speak.PST 2s.DAT yesterday.DEL
This is the basic look I’m shooting for, the grammars and vocab isnt finalised but its a start

Žzeijä Anára
[ˈʐ͡z̪ej.ja ɐˈn̪ɑ.rə]
Anara was born in the capital city Voden, Sevkra 42 years prior to the start of the story’s beginning. She was born into a loving Shumer family; her mother is painter and her father teaches astrophysics in the local community college and she has an older sister and two younger brothers. She was married for 3 years when she was 23-26, getting divorced shortly after she got her commission into the navy. She has the equivalent of a masters degree in both magic and computer science from the University of Voden.
Anara joined the Sevkra Navy after feeling she found her place during her spat as a conscript. Due to her education, she was awarded a commission as a pilot and in 14 years was able climb the ranks to Captain.
3 years prior to the start of the story, Anara shifted careers to become a drop scout and underwent special operations training. After graduating, she was assigned under CSWO Varik where she discovered her secondary job was to keep him in line, although their personalities mesh in a way that they end up enabling each other.
Magic-wise, Anara uses both Shumer tattoo seal magic and her own magic language, which she developed in drop scout training. Her innate magic in unknown but thought to be an advanced copy-type magic since she can do any magic someone else does as long as she can see it. In actuality she has reality manipulation magic that hasn't been fully realised yet.
While most leadership think Řeva Varik is the reincarnation of Koiđu (and Śeva) due to his personality and magical abilities, it's actually Anara who's the reincarnation. This only gets revealed when Anara visits earth for the first time, which awakes both Koiđu and Śeva. The two previous lives act to help Anara instead of hampering her.
Quick Facts:
Age: 42
Birthday: 13th day of the 2nd month (NOT Feb 13th)
Height: 160cm
Weight: 59kg
Eye Colour: Light brown
Hair Colour: Black

The Shumer
(Z: Šomari [ˈʂo.mɐ.rɪ], Shumer: Šumr [ˈʂˤɯʷ.mr̩])
The Shumer are the second most populous ethnic group of Orya, making up about 30% of all Viishy. They speak either Zehzhic dialects or a dialect of their native tongue Shumish (Šomryk [ˈʂom.rɨ̥x]), either High Shumish or Low Shumish which are mutually intelligible. Linguistically Shumish is more closely related to Ser and is considered the most antiquated of the Viishy languages, although this is only because it's perceived to sound old (the Vashi language is in fact the closest to the common ancestor tongue).
The Shumer developed from west asian humans and appear as such. They are some of the tallest Viishy with the average height being 180cm. Their skintone can also be pretty dark. Like the Ser their magic also includes magic tattoos so many Shumer have many tattoos (usually in gold or ochre ink) covering their bodies.
Culturally they developed from nomadic tribes in Taiva which settled into feudalist city states that covered all of Taiva and a good section of Aivar. These city states developed into multiple countries which while in the past warred with one another now form the strongest union of all of Orya. Men and women in male-oriented jobs (e.g. soldiers) of this culture where face coverings/masks.
Shumer tend to believe in the Shumer religion which, unlike the other Viishy cultures, steps away from the original pantheon. They are monotheistic believing in the dual godhead of Yashiin (Jašín [jɐˈʂin̪]) which is a combination of the god of life and the god of death of the original pantheon. This belief causes some issues with the other denizens of Taiva but doesn't receive the same discrimination as what the Ser receive. In the Shumer religion all other gods are celestial spirits that serve Yashiin.
Shumer magic is based off of elemental techniques. They produce some of the best practitioners of fire, water, earth, air, dark, and light magics.
The secondary main character of my story is a Shumer born and raised in Sevkra.

Viishy Swords
Tumblr media
The traditional Zehzhic blade is a double-bladed one-handed sword that on average extends 90-100cm. It traditionally has a ring pommel wear the user would attach a cord which in turn is connected to their belt, the reasoning is during sea battles — a common occurrence in early Zehzhic history — if one were to be disarmed or otherwise drop the sword, itd still be attached to the wielder.
Tumblr media
The traditional Shumer blade is a curved blade that can be single or dual bladed and one or two handed with sizes ranging 1-1,5m long. Some single-edged variants even have the blade located in the curve. Traditional technique centres around wide fluid slashing movements and thrusts. For the single-edged swords with inner blade, the technique is to “beat” the opponent down with the non-edged side before finishing them off with the edge.
Tumblr media
Widely regarded as one of the best swords, the traditional Kentic blade is a single-edged one-handed sword that's length is based on the user: the blade is measured from the hip bone to the mid-shin. The guard allows for bashing and users can also grab the horn with their off-hand for power strikes.
Tumblr media
The Zakri is the traditional sword of the Ser; it is a single-edged two-handed short sword with no guard and a horn at the end of the handle. It's length is based on it's user: the swordsmith measures the sword as the length from armpit to a hand’s width past the fingertips and the wrapped handle 1,5 hand widths. The sword is usually wielded with one hand (despite being considered two-handed) and held with your middle finger resting in the divot of the gold spacer and your pointer and thumb pinching the blade. The horn is used to strike opponents and for power strikes. The Zakri is considered the best Viishy sword, but extremely difficult to master since the traditional fighting style requires the user to grab the edge of the blade for certain thrusts and blocks— practitioners often have well scarred hands.

Viishy Culture and “Marshalism”
While each Viishy ethnic group has a unique history and culture, there exists an overarching “Viishy culture” which most Viishy adhere to. This is seen in the fact that most Viishy believe in the same religion, but it also extends to other cultural facets.
On example is that death and mortality are extremely taboo subjects — this is seen in that there's usually two words remaining to time: one for the general sense of the word, and one used as the personification. The command “die” is usually seen as an extremely strong curse, as are other malady-related command (e.g. “fall ill”, “age”, etc).
Most Viishy cultures are extremely matriarchal; family lineage is tracked through the female line and aristocratic benefits usually fall upon the women of the family. Men’s jobs are seen as brutish and dirty and usually are defined by manual labour, while women’s jobs are seen as more administrative and nurturing; most people in positions of power are women in Viishy societies. None-binary individuals are treated respectively to how they present themselves, which has led to social issues in the community.
In the event of birth, most cultures have a celebration of some kind which lasts a week — both parents and immediate family are excused for work to allow for merriment. In most cultures the child is named according to a certain set of rules— each different for each culture, but each culture has rules.
Upon reaching 12, there is a celebration of the child to becoming a “young adult”. This includes a week of merriment and vows made by the child to progress into adulthood. It is after this point they are formally taught magic and are given more responsibilities.
Upon Reaching 18-20, a curse each Viishy is born with that suppresses their magic ability will naturally deactivate permanently. This is marked by another week of celebration and the entering of adulthood; if a 20-year-old hasn't had the curse deactivated they are still considered a child “younger” than an 18-year-old without the curse. Some cultures will reset the birthday of a person as the day the curse was lifted, others will remove any additional years from the person’s age (e.g. that 20yo, once the curse is lifted, will be considered 18).
Marriage is highly variable within the separate cultures but it's common for 1-3 months of celebration (i.e. 1-3 months away from work) and the man joining the woman’s household. Same-sex marriages usually feature the joining of houses.
In the event of death, bodies are cremated and urns are placed in either shrine rooms of a house, or in a family shrine located in a “shrine mall” (plot of land with many shrines owned by families). It's customary to visit the shrines twice a year (on birth and death days).
Viishy culture, while extremely advanced, features holdouts from time passed— an example would be the use of swords and blades. It's not uncommon to see someone with a sword at their side or on their back, and each person carries at least two knives — a utility knife (more for decoration), and a signature knife. The signature knife is used to cut one's runic signature (runes from the Old Alphabet) into the signature section of documents, which is made with a material that facilitates the cutting without having the knife cut through the paper. Dualing with magic, swords, or both is also something not uncommon and legal in most countries.
Most Viishy cultures feature a social hierarchy called Marshalism. In this system, viishy societies largely reflect western European societies with most social hierarchy dependant on economic status of families and individuals and in some countries there being a royal family and an aristocratic class; however, there is a class of person that also exists: the Marshal. The word “marshal” is a poor translation of Vehźek [ˈvej.ʑɛk] which means something along the lines of “the chosen”. Marshals are a class of person that exists tangentially to the rest of society; they are usually afforded legal pardon from crime, are excused from financial burden (i.e. excused from paying for goods and services), and have the ability to do pretty much whatever they wish. Marshals usually serve the country they belong to as payment for their treatment; this usually comes in the form of civil work or military, the latter being the cause of confusing relating to the translation of Vehźek. Marshals outrank all enlisted, warranted, and commissioned officers and all public servants (judges, politicians, etc) and answer to their own marshal hierarchy or to the leader of the executive branch of their respective government (the king, emperor, president, PM, etc). Marshal hierarchy is rank-based and seniority-based, with most cultured having 2-5 marshal ranks and a system where the marshal that has more time as a marshal (in the respective rank) has more authority than one with less time.

Zin Śeva Serinov
[z̪in̪ ˈɕe.və ˈs̪e.rɪ.n̪ov]
Also known as “Zin”, “The Fist Zin”, “The Seveth Zin”, “The Last Serinov”, “Serinov”, and a host of other variations of his name with military ranks, Śeva was born in 1893 ADK (after the death of Koiđu) out of wedlock into the Serinov family, one of the richest and most influential clans in Elensia. His mother was the youngest member of the family’s main branch and his father was the son of a poor Kentic baker and lived near the Serinov estate. His maternal grandfather had both the baker and son killed for the disgrace. Śeva was then named Śeva (which means nothing but sounds like Ševa meaning potato) and sent to a home where all the bastards and other ill-begottens of the family were sent and was trained to become an officer in the military, as was custom of Serinov bastards: to bring glory or die, either way is good for the family.
Śeva was sent to the Elensian war college at 16 and graduated 8 years later with the equivalent to a doctorate in military strategy and sent to the navy with the rank of commander.
At this time in history, Viishy technology was around the same level as the 1950s on Earth and the Elensian Empire and the Naru Federation (a large Shumer country on Taiva) were quickly sliding toward war with each other and a few other powerful nations. The greatest issue, however, was the vast ocean between the continents made aircraft unable to strike without refuelling and ships were too slow to conduct tactical strikes. Magic was being severely hindered by each nation’s antimagic fields. The only answer was to capture the northern continent of Sevkra which had never previously been settled (the Sevkra Ser were largely unknown at this time) due to it's inhospitable environment and the fact that attempting to settle it was considered an act of war to the other nations. The reasoning was that Sevkra was in a perfect strategic position to launch attacks across the entire northern hemisphere.
So as a young commander in charge of a corvette, Śeva was apart of a fleet tasked with protecting cargo vessels. In winter 1920 ADK, the Naru Federation invaded Rjånbjä, then simply called “Urjon”. Urjon was an ally of Elensia, causing Elensia to go to war with the NF. Śeva’s fleet was the closest to NF shores, so they were dispatched to assault the NF industry city Kashem. Śeva’s fleet was poorly manned, poorly equipped, and even worse poorly commanded and was absolutely devastated, but able to deal a blow to the NF’s most valuable navy yard. Upon returning home, Śeva was made admiral for his actions (and name) at the age of 34. As admiral he was charged in securing Sevkra as Elensian territory.
The moment his fleet breached the No Man’s Land parallel, the already unstable political situation of the world exploded in a full world war with four complete independent sides. After many battles Śeva was made Grand Admiral of the Northern Fleet (GANF) and secured Sevkra and sank the last of the NF’s Northern Fleet in the same week. The war then shifted to a war of most of the world versus Elensia which ended after one year, close to a billion deaths, and much of Taiva destroyed as Elensia signed an armistice with the country of Vasta from south Taiva, a world superpower at the time.
It's also important to note that Śeva was very adept at magic, to the point that it was not possible to classify his abilities, making him the 17th Unclassified Viishy to ever live. Koiđu was the first, and in a way, the 17th as well because Śeva was the reincarnation of Koiđu. Śeva inherited the same reality manipulation magic as his old soul too, but he simply didn't have the thousands of years of experience as his predecessor. He could, however, hear and see his predecessor who — for the lack of a better term — haunted him. Koiđu was angry for not being able to completely die and now “living” as a shadow to a war-hungry child pissed him off even more, so at times he would torture Śeva for kicks, making Śeva manic, depressed, sleep-deprived, and addicted to pain medication which at first was used to treat headaches.
Once Śeva came home he was made Marshal of Sevkra, marshal being a social position in Viishy society that is both civilian and military — it's a position you're either made as or elected to and gives to immense political power and extrajudicial privileges that varry country to country, they are basically a caste of untouchable social elite that does as they will without consequence. The English translation “marshal” comes from the misunderstanding that it was a military rank and not social caste that simply outranked military ranks. In Elensia there's a tradition that when you become a marshal, you are allowed one action without repercussions that doesn't affect the royal family. So Śeva chose to have the entire Serinov family publically executed including all branches up to 3 generations. This was a suggestion by Koiđu who never expected Śeva to do it, so Koiđu was surprised by this as well. The last two of the family to die were his mother and grandfather, who he had burned while making them perceive time as such that for them, they burned for millions of years. It was then he became feared as The Last Serinov.
Upon exploring Sevkra, Śeva discovered the Sevkra Ser living in elaborate caves beneath the snow and ice. He was surprised to find they spoke a language similar the Ser in Taiva, had similar cultures, and called themselves Ser. Koiđu then told him he placed a community of Ser on the continent to see what would happen years prior to his death, and it seems they did well to survive. Śeva then started working with them to establish the underground capital megacity of Voden and Kavo, both located in Ser population centres as a gesture of good faith. After a few decades, the Emperor told him to either kill the Ser or sent them to Taiva. Śeva was infuriated because unlike his family which lived off the backs of the poor and were a key aspect of Elensian corruption, the Ser were a peaceful innocent people. So instead he teleported to the emperor’s palace and killed him with the very sword the emperor gave him upon becoming marshal. Śeva declared independence of Sevkra from Elensia and went back to Voden to prepare for war.
At the time most of Sevkra was military and their families, most of whom supported Śeva and already saw him as a better leader than the emperor, so the assassination and declaration of independence was celebrated by the majority of the new nation. The war between Sevkra and Elensia lasted 5 days with Elensia losing hundreds of thousands and Sevkra suffering only from 323 deaths and 108 injured due to Śeva fighting with all his powers and saving much of his force from experiencing the battle.
After the war, Śeva established a system of government where there was a democratically elected president, a prime minister, and a parliament, a democratically elected judicial system, a mostly democratically elected marshaldom, and a oligarchy of 7 marshal-chosen members with equal political power that can for any reason make absolute political changes and who rule of the marshaldom body. These 7 are all Grand Marshals with six of them assuming the name of the Titan they “politically represent” and the seventh member being the Grand Admiral or Supreme General who is leading the military at the time (this person is temporarily made Grand Marshal). Śeva made 431 people marshals and they elected him among the 7 oligarchs of the nation. This is where he adopted the name “Zin”, just as his predecessor Koiđu had.
Much of the next 1000 years or so he spent in relative peace. Koiđu eventually “fell asleep” and would only be awake for brief moments every hundred years and Śeva moulded Sevkra into a nation so powerful, no nation ever attempted to attack it. Sevkra technology became extremely advanced and after the advent of space travel, they became known as creators of the most powerful and advanced starships. Śeva wanted to explore the cosmos as Koiđu had, so he stepped down from being Zin and gathered a team and set out to explore. He found many planets terraformed by Koiđu which he settled in the name of Sevkra and also established bases on moons and asteroids. He then set out alone and found a moon above a gas giant that was large enough for the plans he had. Inside this moon he created the largest ship to exist (or ever exist). Upon returning home 1500 years later, he was elected again as Zin, this time the seventh Zin.
He wrote a book titled “On Magic” under the pen name “Varik”, but it wasn't well received— critics called it “completely and utterly incomprehensible” and “most painful to read than be murdered by the hardcopy version” and it fell into obscurity until it found its way into a certain person’s hands. The book also contained a code on where to find his ship.
After another 500 years Śeva felt done with life and tried to succeed where Koiđu had failed, leaving a note that read “Y’know what? I rate it 3,5/6 stars at best.” He succeeded a little better than Koiđu.
3,5 became the name of a political party that voiced policies that Śeva would've supported.

Koiđu-zin
[ˈkoj.ðuˌz̪ɪn̪]
Seen as both saint and monster and commonly referred to as just “Koiđu”, he was arguably the most important person of all Viishy history.
Koiđu was born on Earth somewhere near modern day Estonia more than 10.000 years ago. Moments after birth, his magic unleased a fire that consumed his tribe, killing everyone. Another tribe that saw the fireball went to investigate and found the child unscathed in the snow among the charred remains of his people. They took the child in and he was adopted by a couple who had just lost their child weeks prior. He was given the name Koiđu, which in their language meant birch tree.
As a young boy Koiđu learned to hunt and fish and fight. People noticed that despite his young age he was as strong as an adult and as fast as one too. Koiđu was also adept at finding game to hunt almost instinctively.
As years passed, he became an important member of the village and at age 17 was made chief of the tribe after the previous chief died from disease. Koiđu even made a wife from a neighbouring tribe and they were about to have a child.
A few months after being chief, the neighbouring tribe that his wife was from snuck into their encampment and started killing Koiđu’s people. Koiđu’s wife cut his throat in his sleep. Koiđu awoke choking on his blood. Noticing her husband was still very much alive, Koiđu’s wife started stabbing him until he stopped moving, she then left the tent and rejoined her tribe as they were finishing off the rest of Koiđu’s tribe. Koiđu woke up almost immediately with his wounds healing before his eyes, Koiđu left their tent to find carnage and his tribe fighting against his wife’s tribe. Koiđu watched as his wife killed his best friend and in a fit of rage, Koiđu unwittingly let out a wave of energy that ripped apart everything around himself on a molecular scale. Koiđu stood alone in a crater of dust knowing everyone he ever knew and loved was dead: his tribe, his wife (despite her betrayal), and their unborn child.
The next decade Koiđu walked alone eastward, the entire time he met with different people and lived with and helped them in any way he could. He learned many languages, which came as easily to him as water to a stream, and their cultures. He practised his powers and discovered he could do anything he could think of except travel in time to save his village. Once he met the ocean, Koiđu walked into it and travelled under the water for another year, learning and strengthening is abilities against the crushing weight of the water, creating air to breathe, warming his body, etc. He made it to another land with strange peoples. He lived in this warm, perpetually sunny land for 3 decades before again moving eastward again. By his late twenties he had stopped ageing, but he was far into his sixties by the time he left what will later be called California. He crossed North America in 5 years, taking his time to meet the various people through the land as he did prior in his youth.
Once he met the sea he decided to see fly above it and see as birds see, this time it only took him 3 days to reach the new land. And as before he took years the travels, meet people, and learn, but now he travelled by air. He circled the planet a few times, discovering that it wasn't endless like he previously believed. Before he knew it, hundreds of years had passed. He knew hundreds of languages and was able to think of any location and be there in that immediate instant.
He turned his eyes to the stars and set out on a 2000 year journey where he finalised his abilities with the single greatest magical achievement being his terraforming of a large Earth-like planet (3 times the size) to support life. He hollowed the planet and put in structural supports so that it was stable yet had the same gravity as Earth. He brought in flora and fauna and increased the the passage of time around the planet so that the life could spread to every inch. Finally he made the spin of the planet and its orbit align so that time can be accurately kept. When he was done, he settled on a temperate island continent (which will later be called Elensia) since the region reminded him of his 30 year stay in the New World.
For the next few hundred years, Koiđu would visit Earth and build portals to his planet, which he named Wudžemaħ (New Land). He kept time faster on Wudžemaħ because he could spend thousands of years on the planet yet return to an Earth he could recognise, which was not the case the last time he left for two thousand years. At some point he heard legends of powerful people like him, so he travelled to what will later be called the Balkans. It is there he found entire villages of people like him, albeit far weaker. He discovered that somehow he was somehow (re: genetically) related to them, so he told them of a realm they could live and practice their abilities without fearing retribution from other peoples who them as monsters.
For the next few hundred years, Koiđu searched the earth for people like him and planted them onto Wudžemaħ. Then he started noticing magic attacks on human settlements as realised his mistake— he left portals to earth open on Wudžemaħ and the people like him were exploiting peoples on earth. Angered by this, Koiđu drew up the first spell in history and in 4119 BC he activated the spell which send out a blinding light which removed all present people like him and sent them back to Wudžemaħ. He then destroyed all portals and returned to his planet. He forgot he left time sped up so he returned to a planet covered in war thousands of years a bead of his time. He returned the time to a normal speed and set out to fix his mistake. In the city-state of Elensia located on the same landmass he first settled on were a people called the Vyykai (who called Wudžemaħ “Õri‘a”, meaning Fertile Soil). Koiđu found a school there run by a woman named Letha who taught people how to control their abilities. She was one of the strongest people he ever met besides himself, and he traded ideas with her.
Their alliance and magic studies led to the creation of the first magic language (later reformed into Imperial Magic) and the curse which stops children from using magic for twenty years to prevent unnecessary death.
Finally Koiđu thought to better the relationships of the different peoples of Wudžemaħ (now called many different names) by performing a spell that erased their memories of life on Earth and of their languages and replaced their language with that of the Vyykai. This sparked a war with people on one side believing what he did was right fighting against those who thought it was unjust, that he destroyed all their cultures simply for conformity and uniformity, with Letha taking role as their general.
After hundreds of years of war which Koiđu never once participated in, the sides took their places in the world with Koiđu’s supporters living on the continent he first settled many many year prior (now called Elensia after the founding city).
Letha now lived on an island in the southern ocean with a people who will later be called the Vashi. Her group protected information and were attempting to find a way to reverse the damage done by Koiđu. Koiđu visited her and convinced her he wasn't here to fight, but help. He recounted to her the things he saw and did, and his reasonings. These were all recorded and preserved by her order. The only thing he omitted was the location to Earth and he also told her his removal of their language and memories was irreversible. His last act was to use his magic to destroy every atom in his body and finally die after living over 9000 years (4000 or so from Earth's perspective).
The Vyykai would later become ethnically different from one another and call each other different names in the different tongues derived from the Vyykai language. The word to describe the peoples of this world Vyyši (Viishy) comes from this term.
Koiđu is seen as a hated figure for most Viishy cultures, however the Zehzhics see him as a saint and/or demigod. After his death he was awarded the honourific of -zin because he embodied the titan of chaos, change, and death.

The Iru
(Z: Irúi [ɪˈruj], Iru: Iruwai [i.ɾu.wɑ̀j])
The Iru are the native inhabitants of Aivar (Iru: Aiwa̋rön [ɑj.wɑ́.ɾœ́ɴ]) and make up close to 18% of all Viishy. Most speak Aivar Zehzhic and Iruic (Z: irúyk [ɪˈruɹkʰ], I: irujo [i.ɾu.jò]). Iruic makes up it's own branch of the Viishy language family and has only one dialect (ignoring accents); however, Iruic and Taiva Ser get confused together due to similar phonotactics. Iruic boasts the most simple phonological inventory and it's grammar is quite easy as well, which is far removed from the usual Viishy language. It has a pitch accent.
The Iru people developed from humans located in the southwest Mediterranean, Sudan, and Anatolia and have darker skintones and facial features of humans you'd find in ancient Egypt. Interestingly they are also known to have green eyes and red hair (not all, of course, but a large enough percentage to be a cultural trademark). They also share pointed ears like the Ser. Culturally they are very similar to the Zehzhics; originally seafaring and warlike, now they live in relative peace with the Taiva Union upon their resource-rich continent. Their cities rival Elensia in both size and technological innovation. That said their country is still feudalistic with many royal families controlling small regions that function under a ruling family.
Religion-wise they believe in the pantheon with relative equality, although the sea, merchant, and fertility gods may get more love than others.
Magic-wise the Iru specialise in creation and destruction magics and in magic seals/circles.
The Iru were the first people to commercialise space travel due to the resources they have. Additionally, the Iru were the first Viishy to align themselves with the humans, who called them “Good Zehzhics”, “Dark Zehzhics”, and “Dark Elves” — terms most Iru find distasteful and insulting.

The Zehzhics
(Zehži [ˈz̪ej.ʐɪ])
The Zehzhics are the most numerous ethnic group of the Viishy, making up close to 40% of the Viishy population with close to 70% of all Viishy having some Zehzhic lineage. Native to the contenent of Elensia (Elénsiä [ɛˈlʲen̪ː.s̪ja]), Zehzhics have spread across the entire planet of Orya during the Second Great War which marked a period of expansion for the Elensian Empire. Because of this there are multiple Zehzhic ethnicities: Elensian Zehzhics (elensiävi [ɛˈlʲen̪ːˌs̪jæ.vɪ]), Northern Zehzhics (sevzehži [s̪ɛvˈz̪ej.ʐɪ]), Aivar Zehzhics (äivrzehži [aj.vr̩ˈz̪ej.ʐɪ]), and Taivan Zehzhics (taivazehži [t̪əjvə̥ˈz̪ej.ʐɪ]), each with their own culture and colloquial dialect (or language as the case with the northern zehzhics). The uniting language among the zehzhics is Modern Standard Zehzhic (zarazehžyk [ˈz̪ɑ.rəˌz̪ejʐ̥ɨ̥kʰ]) which is based on the old Elensian dialect. MSZ is also the lingua franca of most of the world and boasts the most speakers of any Viishy language.
Elensian Zehzhics tend to look like Balkan or Eastern Mediterranean humans, Northern Zehzhics look closer to Baltic humans, and Zehzhics located in the continents of Aivar and Taiva tend to resemble the native populations, mainly Central and West Asian. On average Zehzhics range 162–184cm in height and have dark hair.
While Zehzhics come in many appearances due to their wide range and integrations into other nations, most still cling to the same general culture. Zehzhics, as a previous thalassocratic culture, worship the God of the Sea Mon (Mön [møn̪]) and hold yearly festivals towards this god. They also revere their patron “saint” Koidhu (Koiđu [ˈkoj.ðu]) and celebrate many holidays based on his actions. It's not uncommon for a Zehzhic household to have a shrine to Mön and/or a depiction of Koidhu, and wearing a rune logograph meaning “Mön”. Northern Zehzhics are the only cohesive zehzhic group to go against this grain, with the majority of them nonreligious and celebrating the founding and founders of their nation of Sevkra.
Northern Zehzhics are different culturally, ethnically, and linguistically from most of the other Zehzhic groups due to them being descendants of a mutinous war fleet from Elensia which declared independence from Elensia after they took the northern continent for themselves. They then integrated with the native Ser population, which over time resulted in a tall, pale population that speaks a zehzhic language so heavily influenced by Ser that it's no longer mutually intelligible with the other zehzhic dialects. Their culture is very militaristic ironically interwoven with the peaceful Ser culture.
The Zehzhics were the first Viishy to meet humans, which is why humans call all Viishy “Zehzhic”. Elensian Zehzhics immediately tried to destroy and subjugate humanity, leading to a war that involved all humans and viishy. Humans refer to Elensian Zehzhiks as “Vampires” due to their seemingly cruel, sadistic, and arrogant natures— this term is not seen as negative by the Elensians.

Viishy Wands
This is more or less straight forward; wands are are either enchanted objects or objects that contain spellwork — the former can be dispelled while the latter is more or less permanent.
Wands work by drawing magic from the user and focusing it like a prism. Some wands simply focus and amplify the user's magic, while other wands are single-function objects made to perform only one spell or one specific series of spells but can't be used for any other purpose. Wands can allow for users to perform spells that they'd otherwise not be able to do.
Another way wands are differentiated is how they are powered. The most common wands are powered directly from the user where the magic flows from the user into the wand and the wand performs its function, the second most common is via storage where the user constantly stores magic into the object for later use. These wands are extremely useful if the user is weak or has run out of magic in a fight. The third and rarest kind draws magic from the environment — there are only a handful of examples of these wands since creation of them is a mystery. These wands can allow humans to perform magic that surpasses the abilities of some of the strongest of the Viishy.
In Viishy culture a “wand” is any object imbued with magic, so wands take many forms: from the common tapered stick, to gems, and to things as innocuous as a chair or pair of glasses.

Ranks and Rank Insignias of the Northern Federation of Sevkra
The following are the rank and rank insignias of the Northern Federation of Sevkra (and also the Elensian Empire, but the insignias are slightly different and there isn't as many ranks, especially for warrant officers and commissioned officers). I will not be including uniforms today because that's a project for a later date. Note: the complexity of this system is due to the fact that in the NFS the military is highly integrated into society and government jobs like medical, judicial, education, etc are apart of the uniformed services; additionally, the longer lifespans of the Viishy allow for a longer progression of ranks.
While used interchangeably, Pay Grade and Rank are different terms. Pay Grade is the numbered “step” on the ladder of progression that indicates seniority, experience, and how much the individual is paid. Rank is the specific title and general duty of the member in question. For example, if a person has the Pay Grade of O4, they can have the Rank of First Officer, Aiding Officer 3, Major, Pilot First Class, or Flight Leader.
Tumblr media
Enlisted Personnel
Enlisted personnel make up about 80% of the armed forces and 40% of the other uniformed services. They are individuals who either signed a contract of service which has to be renewed once the contract expires or have been drafted. Contracts are come are 6, 9, or 12 years long while conscripts are obligated to perform 3 years of service every 9 years.
Enlisted personnel are individuals trained in a specific field and are expected to become experts in said field. Upon achieving the rank of E4, they start accumulating more responsibilities and managerial duties as they advance through the ranks, now considered non-commissioned officers. E9-12 starting to become more office-oriented and more or less advisors to commissioned officers. E13+ are seen as the experts of their field (usually multiple fields) and function almost purely as managers. However, this system breaks down with the second line (inverted) of ranks; these enlisted personnel remain specialists in their field and do not gain office nor greater responsibility than the people in their direct chain of command. These members are usually in combat or maintenance roles. Conscripts make up the majority of the members with these ranks.
The third row is for special roles. E6-7 (CMN and JRH) have more responsibility and authority than other members with the same pay grade. E14-16 special roles are advisors to commanders and also act as HR to the enlisted members under them.
The fourth row is for the seniormost enlisted member of a base or ship.
Tumblr media
Warrant Officer
Warrant officers are in between enlisted and commissioned and act as extremely specialised individuals who hold no command over anything larger than a fire team (4-12 individuals) and who's job requires specific training that can't be covered by an enlisted member, such as flying troop transports, being a comms officer, or being a technician in a field. They make up ~2-5% of the uniformed services. Unlike the enlisted who are employed via contract and COs who are commissioned by the president, WOs gain a warrant through parliament.
Special warrant officers are very different, however. They usually are commissioned officers (but can be NCOs) who are appointed by the president or a marshal and whose original ranks are then classified. These individuals are almost always plain-clothed and have no rank insignia, though they are authorised to wear any rank they choose as long as it doesn't outrank their perceived rank. Perceived rank is based on their direct commander’s rank and their SWO rank. The formula is [commander’s pay grade]-7-[their pay grade], meaning if a SWO3 is working under a ship captain (O7), they have the same authority as a second officer (O3). SWOs are extremely rare and make up less than 1% of WOs, so many people in the NFS military don't know how to treat SWOs. These individuals usually work in combat roles in special or black operations or as the personal assistants to marshals as marshal-selects (see below).

Commissioned Officer
Commissioned officers are individuals appointed by the president who act as managers and commanders in the uniformed services. They are highly educated for their roles and are held to high standards and make up about 18% of the armed forces and 55% of the rest of the uniformed services.
The first row is for general officers. These individuals gain most responsibility as they progress through the ranks, eventually gaining command over a ship (craft larger than 50m and having multiple sections) at O7.
The second row are the specialty officers. These ranks are in three sections: aiding officers, service officers, and executive service officers. These officers are given titles (as seen below the insignias) rather than an actual rank (e.g. O7A is “Service Officer 2”, but the title of “Doctor” will always be used if the officer in question is in the medical field). In this row O5 has two separate ranks — the second one (HAO) is given command over other O5s and below. Below O7-9 are the specialist ranks; these act like the inverted enlisted ranks where these officers hold no command except maybe a handful of other individuals and solely focus on their field (if it helps, Dr. House would be an RO3). These officers are always considered junior to officers of the same pay grade in the fourth, third, and first rows (in that order).
The third row is combat officers; these officers serve commanding roles for smaller units and have responsibilities only to their men. their commanders are almost always an officer from the first row.
The fourth row are pilots. O4 has two ranks with the second acting as a commander of 5-20 other pilots. O5 commands 2-6 flights (40-120 pilots). O6 commands 2-5 squadrons (150-600 pilots). Since each ship carries about two wings’ worth of people pilots who are promoted past O6 naturally progress to ship captains. Due to combat and flight experience, these SCPTs are considered the best and most competent commanders to have.
The final rank is the O16 rank GANM which is actually considered a M4 rank (see below). This individual is the commander of the entire uniformed services and is appointed the position which they hold for the length of the presidency (12y); however, once appointed no one but the other M4 marshals can remove them from office prematurely.
Tumblr media
Marshal
Marshals are but military and civilian positions placed at the very top of the social hierarchy. I wrote about them previously but the gist is that marshals out rank all military and civilian positions. In the NFS there are only 438 marshals: 431 M1-3, 1 O16M, and 6 M4. The 6 titan marshals and the GANM act as the oligarchs of the NFS, holding absolute political power as well as acting as the commanding body of the marshals. The GANM is the only marshal that is designed to be temporary, acting as a titan marshal for 12 years.
Marshals act as commanders of highly specialised units or act as solo agents. It is possible for SWOs to have a perceived rank of marshal is they work directly underneath one— this is the case with CSWO Varik who is considered a chief marshal since he works directly under a grand marshal.
To become an officer you need at least 12 years of experience as enlisted and 12 years of experience as warrant and/or commissioned officer. If the individual came in as a warrant officer it's 12y WO and 12y CO, if they came in as CO it's 12y CO and 12y WO (requires a pay cut). Marshals are either elected to the position in a general election, elected by the marshals, or hand-selected by the titan marshals, but only when there's an opening in their ranks. Marshal-Selects are people slated to become marshals, these individuals are given the rank of CSWO and assigned to a M1 marshal, meaning their rank is “below” M1 but still above any other military officer.
