I was commissioned by my dads longtime friend, Larry to draw an old photo of the two of them when they were in Vietnam. (Larry on the left, my dad on the right) In 1969, my dad was drafted to Vietnam for 13 months and during that time he was in a Recon Platoon where he had met Larry. The two of them became immediate friends due to the fact that they were both from California and would reminisce their home towns. Throughout their time in Vietnam, both of them took many pictures of their experience there since they were some of the few soldiers who had brought cameras from home. This picture that I drew is one of the few, if not many, of the two of them together. According to my dad, his friendship with Larry has now lasted for 52 years and still going strong! The second photo is of the two of them now and you can still see that they light up when they’re together and I adore that. Larry had recently come to visit us to receive his commission and spent many hours talking to my dad and our family. It was also the first time we had seen him since the pandemic started. My dad may be a very introverted man but has a lot to say when Larry, his very talkative extroverted friend comes to visit him. I am so happy that my dad has a wonderful friend like Larry!
