Claire Redfield x Elza Walker
Generally the characters are the same, but with a kick of real so they aren't blank slates. Elza herself is a street-smart, confident young woman with a troubled past.
Born Elizibeth Walker in Anchorage, Alaska to parents separated before she was born, her father was an fortuitous yet endearing construction worker who took custody of her until he went missing during the construction of an Umbrella Research Facility in the Rockies during her early teens and was then sent to Connecticut to live with her mother, who was an abusive drug addict.
In her teens she developed a keen interest in motorcycles while overstudying in a library to avoid her mother and further strengthed it with part-time jobs in various mechanics. Eventually she lost hope in her father being found and her increasingly hostile mother drove her to runaway from home, using connections she developed through gangs and mechanics to move to Florida and join an amatuer racing contest in Daytona under the alias 'Elza' (Her father's nickname for her)... where she broke the track record 4 times (The first was the previous fastest lap time, she then broke her own fastest laps 3 times).
By her 18th birthday she had left her criminal ties behind and became a minor celebrity on the fast track to becoming a professional bike racer. She had sponsers ready to pay her into any university she wanted, emancipation from her mother and enough money saved up from work and victories to let her live as an independant young woman.
Elizabeth was gone. She was Elza now, and she had found her path to happiness.
~
By 1996 Claire had enrolled in the University of Houstan, Texas. Chris hoped she would enrol in Kansas City so she'd be closer to him but she wasn't going to be his little sister forever. She had grown up quick after their parents died... they both did.
Elza and Claire first met the week before classes started, Claire having just moved into the dorms a day before; Elza arriving like a perfect storm the next day on an customised kawasaki sports bike and a trailer full of her belongings.
Claire recognised her of course, her debut into the racing world made national headlines. So like a dork Claire was shy and tried to avoid Elza as she rode in on her Harley Davidson, after running an errand off campus.
Elza however, heard the sound of a Harley and wanted to know who owned it. She took one look at Claire in her red leather shorts, that 'Made in Heaven' jacket tied around her waist and that tight black bodysuit she had no business looking so sexy in, decided 'Yeah, I'm chilling with you!" and was having none of it.
There was, what a native of Northern Ireland like myself would call, a fresher's fair that night and like a hawk Elza seeked out the introverted Claire and started asking about her bike.
By the end of the night, Claire's shyness vanished upon realising that the seemingly untouchable queen of bikers, whose body was covered in tattoos and whose hair was as wild and untamed as the wind, was actually a massive dork. Elza however found someone who had quickly seen her and not the racing queen. The dealbreaker came when Elza asked what made her get a bike to begin with.
"Well... my brother owned a Suzuki before but... I guess I saw the film 'Akira' and that's what made me do it"
"Oh my god bitch me too!!!"
The two would then become firm friends. Elza being the misadventurous one who managed to talk Claire into actually leaving the library and give herself a break from studying; Claire being the one to get them out of trouble and keep Elza grounded. The two became a power-couple without realising, defending the other from rude people who mocked Elza for daring to be a woman racer or harassed Claire for her looks or for trying to latch onto a celebrity. It went without saying no one could harass these women if they wanted their hearing and face intact.
Things would eventually become more personal between the two. The week after New Years, Elza received news that her mother had died from a drug overdose. Although she didn't need to, Claire bought a side-car for her bike and rode her to New London for the funeral.
The service itself was tense. Elza being uncharacteristically silent and the lack of relatives worried Claire as the service ended. She never saw Elza's eyes look so cold as she gave her eulogy, which she soon realised was a stock eulogy the minister gave to those who didn't write one.
A while after she was buried in the a man approached Elza in the cemetary, introduced himself as her mother's dealer and decided that since she was a famous racer her mother's debt would pass on to Elza and that she would pay him else there would be cpnsequences; it goes without saying she refused to pay off the debt and apathetically asked him to leave.
Claire was on him like a wolf the moment he slapped her and was ready to kill him when he started to threaten her with a knife.
She very nearly did.
They left New London that evening amidst a police BOLO for a woman with auburn hair seen kicking the living shit out of a man in a graveyard. They made it to Kent Island before a blizzard rolled in and they had to say at an inn along the Chesepeake Bay.
That night Claire meant to apologise for her actions, stating she saw her get hit and just... reacted. But Elza pulled her into a tight hug and finally released her pent up emotions. She told Claire about her fathers disappearance, about the years of torment at her mothers hands, that this wasn't the first time something like this happened, that she doesn't understand why she's crying if she hated her mother so much and how much it hurt to remember all those terrrible things and have someone make her feel like that scared little girl again.
Claire, feeling her best friend shake in her arms, doesn't know what to say. She's silent for a time as Elza holds onto her like a lifeline, as if letting go would make her fall off the Earth itself. She finally tells Elza that she isn't that little girl anymore.
"You are Elza Walker! Yhe Woman who can never be slowed! You're unreachable! Unstoppable! And no one will ever hurt you again!... I... don't want to see you hurt again"
Elza didn't speak for a while after that... but eventually she did and what she said broke Claire.
"I've wished for someone like you my whole life Claire"
~
Life returned to normal soon after that. One tournament race was enough to bring Elza Walker roaring back to life and with a vengeance. She was faster, she was braver, her smile after each weekly victory able to light up the world... or at least Claire's, who now made it a point to go to every race, or at least watch it on TV if the race was in a city too far out of reach.
Elza knew Claire was watching her... she figured that's why she was doing better now.
~
Spring came and went, the summer exams now already a fading memory to the pair, but foreshadowed by Claire losing her part-time job and being unable to find another one. With no means to pay for her student fees it looked like she would be forced to drop-out.
But Elza wouldn't have any of it.
"I know how you can pay off your fees. A guy in my pit crew retired a month ago and I've been short two hands ever since. It's hard work but the pays good and if I make pro next month it'll be even better"; she said idly at a bar one evening.
"You... you want me in your pit crew?"; Claire asked incredulously.
"No, I want you as my personal pitbabe so I can drool at you in a tight spandex jumpsuit looking all cute with dirt on your face"; Elza said with a lop-sided smile.
"Ha!"
"Hm... seriously Claire, I want you there with me. I can't imagine anyone better to look after me on the track"; Elza said confidently.
"...You do take way too many risks"; Claire mused, before Elza held her cheek in her hands.
"You told me once that I am the woman who can never be slowed... well Redfield, I'd slow down for you!"
~
Elza's manager might have called her decision to hire Claire personally driven and entirely unprofessional. However, Claire proved herself highly compotent within a week of employment, being able to keep up with the repairs, adjustments and tyre changes her job demanded.
It was also found that Elza actually listened to Claire whenever she was pushing her luck, which turned out to be a blessing in the final race of the season in San Francesco. Her main rival who was tied for 1st with Elza didn't want to lose to a woman, and in the final 3 laps had begun making poor judgement calls to try and keep up with her. Risky overtakes, tight cornering and high speed was equally met, and soon Elza found herself in a dogfight she refused to lose.
If Claire hadn't screamed at her to brake before the last corner, she would have been thrown off her bike with her rival after an attemped inside lane overtake resulted in them losing control of the bike and wiping out.
Elza won of course, making it into the professional league. It was a dream come true. At no point after she took off her helmet and locked teary eyes with Claire could she make any expression that wasn't a bashful smile or tears of joy. It also seemed like she couldn't stop looking at Claire during the victory reception or later that night on the train ride home... where she had too much to drink, leaving Claire having to help Elza meander into the sleeping car after the 8th Buttery Nipple.
She helped her move herself onto the bed, but Elza didn't let go of her hand. Instead she brought her hand to her lips and kissed her knuckles and held it to her cheek as she openly wept.

About Barry
Barry Sheene, Motorcycling's first superstar
Earlier Life
Born in London, Barry was the second child of parents Frank (resident engineer at the Royal College of Surgeons, himself a former competitive rider who retired in 1956 and an experienced motorcycle mechanic) and Iris. He grew up in Queen Square, Holborn, London. Before entering road racing Sheene found work as a messenger and delivery driver.
Racing Career
Barry first started to race in 1968, winning his first races at Brands Hatch riding father Frank's 125 cc and 250 cc Bultacos. He became the British 125cc champion at age 20 in 1970. In 1971 riding an ex-works 1966 10-speed Suzuki twin, previously ridden by Stuart Graham he finished second in the 125 cc World Championship. His first Grand Prix win coming on that bike at Spa in Belgium, soon followed by a win on a 50 cc Van Veen Kreidler at Brno in Czechoslovakia, where he finished over two and a half minutes ahead.
For 1972 Barry was signed to the works Yamaha team for the 250 cc World Championship. However, at the third round in Austria, after losing a sprint to the finish line to the Australian John Dodds for third place, he voiced his displeasure to team management about the performance of the bike and was dropped from the team with immediate effect. His works Yamaha YZ635 was then given to the Finnish rider, Jarno Saarinen who went on to use the bike to win the World Championship that year.
Barry was signed by Suzuki during the off season 1972–1973 and won the newly formed Formula 750 European championship for them in 1973. As a works Suzuki rider Sheene had two contracts, with the World Championship events taking precedence over his Suzuki GB contract for home and International events, if any race dates clashed.
For 1974 Suzuki introduced the RG500 which Sheene rode to a second, third and a fourth scoring 30 points and finishing sixth in the World Championship.
A spectacular crash at the Daytona 200 in the 1975 season threatened to end his career, breaking his left thigh, right arm, collarbone and two ribs, yet he recovered and was racing again seven weeks afterwards. Again riding the RG500 he scored a memorable first 500 cc win at the Dutch TT.
In the 1976 season, he won five 500cc Grands Prix, bringing him the World Championship. He took the Championship again in the 1977 season with six victories. For the 1977 season Sheene was partnered by Steve Parrish, who rode Barry's 1976 Suzuki 500 cc machine.
Barry's battle with Roberts at the 1979 British Grand Prix at Silverstone has been cited as one of the greatest motorcycle Grand Prix races of the 1970s. After the 1979 season, he left the Heron-Suzuki factory team, believing that he was receiving inferior equipment to his team-mates. He switched to a privateer on a Yamaha machine, but soon started receiving works equipment. In 1981, Kenny Roberts the reigning World 500cc Champion for the third time in succession. Sheene, by now on a competitive Yamaha, was determined to take the championship from him. Ironically, Sheene and Roberts battled all season and let Suzuki riders Marco Lucchinelli of Italy and American Randy Mamola beat them for the top two spots. Roberts finished third and Sheene fourth in the final World Championship standings.
A crash at Silverstone where Sheene, riding his Yamaha, hit the obscured fallen machine of Frenchman Patrick Igoa during practice for the 1982 British Grand Prix largely ended his potential as a title threat, and he retired in 1984. He remains the only rider to win Grand Prix races in the 50cc and 500cc categories.
Barry was known for being outspoken in his criticism for what he considered to be dangerous race tracks, most notably, the Isle of Man TT course, which he considered too dangerous for world championship competition. He was a colourful, exuberant character who used his good looks, grin and London accent to good effect in self-promotion, and combined with an interest in business was one of the first riders to make a lot of money from endorsements. He is credited with boosting the appeal of motorcycle racing into the realm of the mass marketing media. He also tried his hand as a TV show host, including the ITV series Just Amazing!, where he interviewed people who had, through accident or design, achieved feats of daring and survival (including the former RAF air gunner, Nicholas Alkemade, who survived a fall of 18,000 feet without a parachute from a blazing Avro Lancaster bomber over Germany in March 1944). Sheene and his wife Stephanie also starred in the low-budget film Space Riders.
Personal Life
In 1975 while on crutches, Barry met model Stephanie McLean, the couple married in 1984, having a son Freddie and daughter Sidonie.
Emigration to Australia
The Sheene family moved to Australia in the late 1980s, in the hope that the warmer climate would help relieve some of the pain of Barry's injury-induced arthritis, settling in a property near the Gold Coast. He combined a property development business with a role as a commentator on motor sport. He began on SBS TV then moved to the Nine Network with Darrell Eastlake, and finally followed the TV broadcast rights of the Grand Prix motorcycle series to Network Ten. Further to this, on Network Ten Barry co-hosted the weekly motor sport television show RPM from 1997 to 2002 with journalist Bill Woods, and was involved in Ten's coverage of other motor sport including V8 Supercars for several years.
In the 1990s, Barry appeared in a series of well known and popular television advertisements for Shell, with Australian motor sport icon Dick Johnson. In later years, Barry became involved in historic motorcycle racing, often returning to England to race at Donington Park. He was also chosen to run with the Queen's Baton in the run-up to the 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester, England.
Death
In July 2002, at the age of 52, Barry was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and stomach. Refusing conventional treatments involving chemotherapy, Barry instead opted for a holistic approach involving a strict diet devised by Austrian healer Rudolf Breuss, intended to starve the cancer of nourishment. He died peacefully surrounded by his family at a hospital on Queensland's Gold Coast in 2003, aged 52, having suffered from the condition for eight months.
Honours and Awards
Following reconstruction of the Brands Hatch Circuit in England for safety concerns after requests by the F.I.M., the Dingle Dell section was changed for safety, and shortly after Barry's death the new section was renamed Sheene's Corner in his honour. The FIM named him a Grand Prix "Legend" in 2001. For the 2003 season, V8 Supercars introduced a medal in honour of Barry, the Barry Sheene Medal, for the 'best and fairest' driver of the season. A memorial ride from Bairnsdale, Victoria to Phillip Island is held by Australian motorcyclists annually, before the MotoGP held at the island.
In Popular Culture
On a side note, the obscure Eric Idle song "Mr. Sheene" which describes "Mr. Sheene's riding machine" appears to be about Barry Sheene. It was released as a B-side of the 1978 single "Ging Gang Goolie" and is credited as released by Rutles-offshoot duo "Dirk and Stig." He is also featured on one of Artist Grayson Perry's Vases My Heroes (1994). Barry also featured in a number of Brut adverts alongside boxer Henry Cooper.

Bikers in Relation to My Books
The second large core foundation for my novels were bikers. I like to describe my novel as Sons of Anarchy meets The Expendables meets The Wolfman. I’m not entirely sure it’s 100% accurate but motorcycle club, mercenary unit and werewolves with the tone leaning more towards Expendables humor rather than Sons of Anarchy/The Wolf Man drama llama angsting.
The idea of a werewolf biker had been bouncing around in my head since college. I didn’t really have anything or anyone to go anywhere with it. I wasn’t part of a werewolf RP group. Old WoD was making way for New WoD. I didn’t know any actual bikers. I didn’t have any ideas for plots. It was just sitting there in my head as “oh, that’s amusing.” Motorcycles and motorcycling are something that is very American. Apparently if there is one thing we’ve exported from America other than fast food, it’s motorcycle clubs and everything that goes with it. Sure, there is motorcycling in Europe. When you hear Harley Davidson, Indian, and Victory motorcycles, you think America.
Later I met some actual bikers, worked with them and got to know them a little. I’m not talking about 3 patch OMC members. I’m talking about guys who just liked motorcycles. They liked the speed. These were hard working blue collar guys. One was a veteran of both the army and the navy. One coached football. They had kids. They were normal everyday guys who enjoyed motorcycles.
You don’t hear about that a lot in the media. The media doesn’t like to report about bikers when they’re good folks who follow the laws and drive safely on the roads. Bikers who are part of Clubs and some who aren’t part of Clubs but do group rides together, pride themselves on their riding skill and following the laws of the road. What you hear about in the media is when there is a shooting at Sturgis, or in the parking lot of an AMA meeting over a parking dispute or when a group of idiots on rice rockets harass a family in an SUV and then when they get scared, follow them and do dangerous things and then when it goes wrong, beat the guy up for it, when it wasn’t the guy’s fault.
Bikers get a bad rap. Most people don’t know about what good they do. There are Bikers for Jesus and Bikers Against Child Abuse (thankfully most biker groups keep their names simple.) Bikers are willing to help other motorists out when they get in a jam. Even most 1% bikers of the big OMCs do not want their names in the news. They don’t want that type of attention. Gun fights, murders, explosions and other things, only hurt motorcycle clubs and motorcycling as a whole. When most bikers just want to ride their bikes on the open road and have a few beers while they listen to music. Just like they do at every biker event that I’ve ever found advertising for. And really that’s what happens here at Daytona Beach during Biketober Fest and Bike Week. Vendors show up that cater to bikers in leather, jewelry and jeans and all the t-shirts one could ever want. Motorcycle companies show their latest models and have test rides set up for attendees. And on stages on Main Street there are bands and the bars are open selling alcohol. And honestly, the bikers drive up Main Street and either go up and down A1A or they go over to ISB and drive around in circles, for hours, from about 11AM to 1AM nonstop. (Yes, that's 14 hours of constant engine noise.)
It’s crazy. It’s loud and you either like it or you don’t.
There are family clubs. There are military clubs. There are clubs for cops, clubs for firemen, clubs for veterans. Then there are the three patch clubs (which have to put their colors away for bike week events.) And like I said earlier, there are clubs for Jesus and Clubs against Child Abuse. Bikers are just ordinary everyday people and bikers such as Sons of Anarchy types and Gangland Undercover types are few and far between. And even then, most of those are genuinely nice folks who are willing to help out their fellow men and women.
OMC/Gs are secretive though. They do claim territory and they do have rules. Just because there are a bunch of nice guys mixed up in there, doesn’t mean they’re all nice guys. So, there is a mystique about them because they are so secretive and because bikers wear leather and jeans and cut off vest type things and they ride around on what are essentially death traps on wheels if not handled right. (Hey, I own a coffin on wheels Mini Cooper. I cannot and will not judge.)
These were the type of people I wanted to write about. I wanted to write about the contradiction of these big tough guys in leather who ride motorcycles but give out toys to children in hospitals. I wanted to write about the type of people who work with the cops on actual sex child abuse cases and protect the victims so they feel safe. I wanted to write about the type of people who have done event security work, such as the Hell’s Angels have done in the past. I wanted to play with this concept that a biker club is like a family, a concept that was touched upon in Sons of Anarchy but was shown to be a dysfunctional family.
My thinking was thus: Wolf packs are families. Wolves claim territory. Biker Clubs are families. Biker Clubs claim territory. Werewolves are secretive hiding among humanity. Bikers Clubs are secretive, not expressly hiding but not welcoming outside intrusion. So, what better way for a big group of werewolves to hide from society and be able to ride vehicles where they can smell everything.
That, and I just might have a teeny tiny weakness for the biker look. Just a tiny one. Really!

Mick Grant’s Ex-Works North West 200-Winning Suzuki XR69
The Suzuki XR69 was an underdog of sorts, it was a joint project between the Japanese motorcycle maker and motorcycle tuning icon Pops Yoshimura.
Honda was the king of the hill when it came to Japanese four-strokes, but what Suzuki and Pops managed to do in a few short years was turn this dominance on its head – beating Honda and all comers in top flight races around the world.
Up until the release of the GS series in the mid-1970s Suzuki had been almost entirely dedicated to two-stroke motorcycles, with no small amount of success. The GS-series was the first full series of four-stroke motorcycles in Suzuki’s history, the first models were the GS400, the GS500, and the GS750.
The larger Suzuki GS1000 was released in 1977 fitted with a larger version of the inline-4 cylinder engine from the GS750. This air-cooled DOHC engine featured a 5-speed unit gearbox, two valves per cylinder, and a chain final drive. It would be the GS1000 engine that would form the basis of the Suzuki XR69, though very few parts would actually be carried over.
The Suzuki XR69 and Pops Yoshimura
The project to build the XR69 actually started in 1976 when Yoshimura approached Suzuki as he needed some help from Suzuki engineers on the new GS750-based racing motorcycle he was building. This was heaven sent for Suzuki as they had very little experience with high-performance four-strokes, so Yoshimura’s development work was invaluable.
Yoshimura and Suzuki would closely align working on a new GS1000-based racing motorcycle designed to compete against the best in the world, and although they didn’t have the resources or experience of Honda they would soon be nipping at their heels.
Pops and his team managed to tune the GS1000 engine to the point where it was producing 134bhp at 9,500 rpm and 72 ft lbs of torque at 8,000 rpm. This was far too much for the original frame, suspension, and brakes.
It became clear that a new frame was going to be required, so Pops and his team developed a new tubular chrome-moly steel chassis that as far stronger than the original. This frame was paired with the Kayaba front end off the XR-series 500cc Grand Prix bike with Kayaba suspension in back.
This new motorcycle was named the XR69, Graeme Crosby joined Suzuki for the 1980 season and his initial rides on the new four-stroke race bike impressed him so much he claimed it was one of his all time favourite race bikes. Within weeks he had taken the XR69’s first win at Daytona before proving to be a dominant force for the rest of the year.
His development work was put to great effect and within weeks took the machines first win at Daytona before going on to be a dominant force in all major race meetings during that year including a second place at the Isle of Man TT and a win at the Ulster Grand Prix, winning the TT F1 World Championship title for Suzuki.
Mick Grant joined Suzuki in 1982 forming part of a three-rider team with John Newbold and Roger Marshall. Grant finished 2nd behind Crosby at the Isle of Man and 3rd behind him at the Ulster GP, tragedy struck at the North West 200 when John Newbold crashed and died after clipping Grant’s rear tire. Grant won the race and immediately dedicated the victory to Newbold and donated his prize money to John’s widow.
The XR69 would take a few more wins and podiums but in 1984 the TT Formula 1 category reduced the engine size limit to 750cc. This ended the reign of the Suzuki litre bike but its spirit lives in today, Yoshimura and Suzuki still enjoy a very close and very successful relationship.
The Ex-Suzuki Works – Mick Grant – North West 200-Winning Suzuki XR69 Shown Here
It’s perhaps best to tell the story of this bike in Mick’s own words:
“My full factory XR69 has been in my possession since I retired from racing in 1985. It is the exact specification as I raced it. It was given to me by Suzuki. To the best of my knowledge there were only five or six of the special bikes made. For some reason my bike seems to be the best specification of them all, it has a dry clutch, magnesium carburettors, billet forks, twin sparking plugs, etc.”
“I only know of two others that still exist, one is an ex-Roger Marshall bike with a collector in Ireland, and the other is an early twin-shock XR built for Graham Crosby. This machine is in very good mechanical and working condition. In the last few years I’ve demonstrated this machine in South Africa and at Oliver’s Mount, Spa Francorchamps, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park, etc.”
“It is a lovely bike to ride and still feels as fresh as when I was racing it. On this bike I had lap records and second places in the Isle of Man. I won the North West 200 on it, set the lap record Donington Park, was second in the Macau GP, etc.”
Mick was given the bike by a grateful Suzuki when he retired from racing in 1985, he’s owned it continuously since then and it’s now coming up for sale for the first time on the 28th of April with Bonhams. The estimated hammer price is £90,000 to £120,000, if you’d like to read more about it or register to bid you can click here to visit the listing.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE
Tumblr media
The story It all began at the beginning of the last century, when young Swedish immigrant Carl Oscar Hedstrom, an engineer and builder of competition bikes, worked out a DeDion-Buton model and carburetor designed by him at the behest of businessman George M. Hendee, of the city of Springfield, state of Massachusetts, that since 1897 already produced bicycles. Together, in 1901, they founded the Hendee Manufacturing Company, erected a factory in the city of Springfield and began producing from 1902 small one-cylinder bikes - little more than bicycles - named INDIAN. In its race debut, later this year, INDIAN won the disputed endurance race from Boston to New York. The combination of his talents - Henderson for business and Hedstrom for mechanics - was fruitful from the start: in 1903 they came on INDIAN motorcycles with two V-cylinders, two- and three-speed gearbox and swingarm rear suspension. The first motorcycles marketed were Royal Blue (blue) or had black paint as an option, but in 1904 the company launched a dark red named Vermillion, which became better known as "Indian Red". Shortly after, in 1906, the company produced the first motorcycle equipped with V-Twin engine. The INDIAN bikes were chosen to form the first police battalion of New York in 1907. That same year, with the change to a bigger factory and a magnification in the labor force, INDIAN began to produce its own motors, thus ending its contract with the company Aurora, which was previously responsible for manufacturing the engines.
In 1910, the company introduced several breakthroughs in its models, including a front bumper and an automatic oil valve. The brand did not take long to achieve success in competitions, winning almost all modalities on two wheels in the United States. And the success spread abroad: in 1912, won the first three places in the famous Tourist Trophy (TT) of the Isle of Man in England. In 1913, he developed the rear suspension with spring beam called Cradle Spring Frame. Despite the record sales year with 32,000 motorcycles marketed, Oscar Hedstrom retired. In the year 1914 the Hendee Special model was launched in the market equipped with the first electric match on a motorcycle. However, there was no alternator and the batteries were not recharged, so the model was in production for only a year. The model also featured another innovation, electric lights. Before World War I the company was already considered the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world.
Always in the vanguard, in 1916, the company presented the segment with several innovations, among them, the legendary V2 Powerplus 1000 cc engine (whose side valves resulted in a cleaner and quieter operation, producing more force than its predecessors, thus generating a top speed of 95 km / h) and a competition model with four valves per cylinder two years later. However, with the departure of the company's founders as early as 1916, due to disagreements with other directors, the company would face difficult times, including financially. In 1917, with the entry of the United States in World War I INDIAN MOTORCYCLE devoted much of its production to meet military demand. As a result, utilities had limited inventories and retail sales dropped significantly. The company provided the American military with approximately 50,000 motorcycles, most of them based on the Powerplus model. This model was durable, reliable and with powerful engine, serving well the need of the troops.
Despite the difficulties of the period, continued to leave the production lines of Springfield motorcycles that would become icons of the American market. Launched in October 1919, INDIAN SCOUT was a creation of the Charles B. Franklin pilot and was equipped with the Powerplus engine with displacements ranging from 600 to 1200 cc. The midsize model was reliable and fast, seducing many beginners of the segment at the time. The first INDIAN CHIEF came on the market in 1922, equipped with a 1,000 cc engine, later expanded to 1,200 cc in the INDIAN BIG CHIEF model of 1923. At the time this model became the industry's best seller and took the INDIAN MOTORCYCLE brand to the rest of the world along with the rest of the line that also included Scout, Chief and Standard motorcycles. In 1927 the company acquired Ace Motor Corporation, to have production capacity of the inline four cylinder engine with 1,260 cubic centimeters. INDIAN FOUR, which used this engine, was marketed between 1927 and 1942. It was only in 1928 that the company adopted the name of the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company.
Although with a very reduced production for nearly two decades, INDIAN resisted the stock market crash in 1929 and, in 1934, launched SCOUT SPORT, which trended with the extended mudguards and the INDIAN MOTORCYCLE Warbonnet logo on the fuel tank. The brand even provided motorcycles to the Armed Forces of various countries during World War II: the SCOUT 500 (somewhat slow but reliable), 750 (actually a SCOUT SPORT with less power) and CHIEF 1,200. There was even the model 841, with transmission shaft, pedal-operated gearbox and hand clutch, the opposite of the usual on the brand's bikes. But Harley-Davidson, already booming in the market, achieved contracts of greater volume and profit per unit, putting its competitor in serious financial difficulties.
After World War II INDIAN MOTORCYCLE was eventually sold. The new owner, Ralph Rogers, then decided to launch lower-displacement models: the Arrow, a 250 cc and a cylinder, and the Warrior, 440 cc and two vertical cylinders. However, models that could save the mark of the crisis, such as an INDIAN FOUR of 880 cc and the idea of a civilian version of the 841, were canceled. Despite the enormous growth of the American market after World War II, the CHIEF model was considered old-fashioned by the new administration and went out of production in 1948. The new line of motorcycles used technology from the English Brockhouse, with motors with valves in the head, box selector on the pedal and clutch on the handle. But the quality of production was beyond expectations. In 1950 the manufacturing and sales areas of INDIAN MOTORCYCLE were separated and sold to the British group Associated Motorcycles Ltd. (AMC), which owned brands such as Norton and Royal Enfield. As a result, CHIEF's production was resumed, with the BLACKHAWK CHIEF model being the most famous of the brand. The "old" CHIEF thus won a hydraulic telescopic fork and a 1,300 cc engine, but remained with the already outdated three-speed gearbox. In 1953, CHIEF and its V2 gave rise to a 700-liter Royal Enfield version, sidewalk with larger tires, wide handlebars and the brand logo on the fuel tank. Although it was an efficient and reliable motorcycle, fans of the American brand were waiting for the release of a new model legitimate, which did not happen. It was the end. The Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company filed for bankruptcy later this year, ceased operations and discontinued production of all models.
In the following years INDIAN MOTORCYCLE went through many hands, for example, in 1962, when Joseph Berliner bought all rights, but never used the brand name; or even in 1970, when Alan Newman acquired the company and started selling small motorcycles that owned the INDIAN brand. Most of these bikes were produced in Taiwan with 50cc and 175cc engines. Some enthusiasts were prosecuted in the United States and Canada for the use of a trademark that did not belong to them. Even the Aborigines of the Umpqua tribe in the US state of Oregon claimed rights over the name. After many discussions on the copyright of the brand, in 1998, when it appeared to be definitely abandoned, INDIAN re-emerged in the market by merging nine companies that invested $ 30 million to form the Indian Motorcycle Company of America (IMCA), which inaugurated a production facility in Gilroy, California. IMCA produced the Chief, Scout and Spirit models (in practice, a less powerful version of the Chief and without the exaggerated fenders typical of the brand), equipped with engines purchased from S & S Cycle. But due to the low demand for brand models, INDIAN MOTORCYCLE closed its doors again in 2003.
In 2008, a further attempt to reactivate the brand: London-based privately-owned Stellican Ltd. bought the assets of INDIAN MOTORCYCLE and established a motorcycle manufacturing facility in Kings Mountain, North. Few INDIAN CHIEF units were produced with 1720 cc engines. New failure. Finally, on April 19, 2011, Polaris Industries, a manufacturer of quadricycles, UTVs (a quadricycle with a passenger compartment) and snowmobiles (snowmobiles), acquired all rights over the INDIAN MOTORCYCLE brand, in order to preserve the inheritance and the historical importance for the two-wheel segment, but focusing on the future, with the development of modern products and cutting-edge technology. As a result, the brand gained fresh breath and investment, with production being transferred to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where the group manufactures Victory-branded bikes. In March 2013, during the Daytona Bike Week, the new Thunder Stroke 111 V-Twin engine was unveiled. "Honoring Our Past. Piloting Our Future "was the theme of the event. The engine was revealed on a stage during the party on the main street of Daytona Beach, and when it left, the crowd was thrilled. Finally the INDIAN MOTORCYCLE engine snorted again. This return made it possible for motorcycle lovers to finally realize the dream of having a flagship INDIAN MOTORCYCLE model.

Like there insurance is going to cover her car damage, is it going to claim me the amount of her car damage to pay back to her car insurance, or not ? The persons car I hit, is really sweet even though I hit her car. She told me that her insurance company is just trying to get money off of me, but she told me there's no reason because there is a reason why she pay full coverage having uninsured motorist included. But I did some research and it says that uninsured motorist only apply's if I hit her car and someone ended up injured ? . . . Help me out please ! If there claiming the amount that they are claiming I am going to be in debt. It's AAA insurance the company that the lady has. The lady's car I hit. But like insurances have CRS do there job having to work for insurances, which stands for Claims Resources Services. They sent me a claim amount that the insurance is asking for. They sent me a second notice, and it says if they don't here from me in any way of paying back the money they used up to cover the lady's car they will send the information back to AAA and AAA will end up increasing the claim amount.""

Car insurance rates question plz help 10 pts?
I pay $187 a mth for car insurance & that's full coverage with $500 deduct. The reason I was told I'm paying that much was bc of a big wreck I had back in Aug 2010 and since it's coming up on 3 yrs and my premium expires in Aug I'm expecting my rates to go down a little. My insurance company jus told me that that's not why I'm paying that much it's bc of 2 speeding tickets I got back in 2010 Feb & April bt when my premium expires in Aug my rates will go down. My question is can you guys give me a estimate on how much you think I'll be paying in Aug when my rates go down??! I live in S.C. Btw Thanks so much in advance

Driving without car insurance?
So, Im broke and I know its a really awful idea to drive without car insurance, but Im a little unclear about what the rules actually are. I know it is illegal to drive without car insurance b/c I got a ticket for it once when I just didnt have my proof of insurance with me, but it was a pretty small fine, is that the only legal consequence of it? I'm a pretty good driver, no accidents so far (knock on wood), and if I were to get into an accident it would probably not be my fault. Is it true if you get in a car accident without car insurance and its not your fault then you are still financially responsible for the damages to your car? ...Like because you dont have insurance the other drivers insurance doesnt acknowledge the accident or something? Anyway, as of 10 min from now my insurance policy will expire and im tempted to not get new insurance for a month or so until im more financially stable. What are the consequences im missing? Anyone know of really cheap insurance? other thoughts? ""Why do questions say cheap car insurance and affordable health insurance, not cheap health & affordable car?""
Questions about finding inexpensive car insurance usually refer to it as cheap . Questions about finding inexpensive health insurance usually refer to it as affordable . I do not recall ever seeing a question refer to affordable car insurance, and only rarely to cheap health insurance. Why is this? Why do car insurance questions use the word cheap and health insurance questions use the word affordable , and not the other way around? Is it just tradition, like saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year , but never saying Happy Christmas and Merry New Year ? Is it because the law has the word affordable in its title, causing that word to be associated with health insurance? Is it because most of the questions are from someone who is trying to manipulate search results by causing searches for cheap car insurance and affordable health insurance to come to this website? Is it because car insurance questions usually come from users under 25 years old and questions about getting health insurance usually come from older users (health insurance questions from users under 25 usually have to do with saying on their parents' insurance and/or using their parents' insurance)?""

Considering suing my car insurance company?
As we all know car insurance companies in the United States of America charge males more than females to drive a car based on real world studies . This is the equivalent of not hiring females because they may get pregnant and take a lot ofdays off... Because this is truly a real world study i conducted that males dont get pregnant as often as females. So I am highly tempted to bring this up with a lawyer or at least send a letter to my car insurance company, and i want them to hurt for it because frankly it pisses me off that i am being descriminated against. Further more, in europe, this practice of charging males more because they are more likely to drive is highly illegal. I am in no way a liberal democrat but if this sensitivity bullshit is going to stop descrimination than maybe they should give a **** about me before i start caring about them...""

Challenge Accepted: Harley-Davidson Unveils Liquid-Cooled XG750R Flat Track Racer Note the subtle smack-talk directed at Indian that is contained within this release Our unabashed opinion is that 2017 will be an amazing year to be a fan of flat track racing. Begin Press Release: HARLEY FACTORY TEAM GOES ALL-IN WITH XG750R FLAT TRACKER Factory XG750R Racers to be Announced January 28 During ESPN’s X Games MILWAUKEE (January 26, 2017) – Fast, liquid-cooled and with big shoes to fill: The Harley-Davidson® XG750R motorcycle will be the only bike raced by the Harley-Davidson® Factory Flat Track Racing Team in 2017. The new flat-tracker will replace the Harley-Davidson® XR750, the most successful flat-track racing motorcycle of all time. The Harley-Davidson Factory Team will contest the 2017 American Flat Track (ATF) racing series and ESPN’s X Games Minneapolis Harley-Davidson® Flat Track Racing event exclusively aboard the XG750R bikes. The racing season opens during Daytona Bike Week at the March 16 ATF Daytona TT on a new circuit featuring a jump to be constructed inside Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. “There is extraordinary energy building behind the new American Flat Track series and after decades of XR750 dominance, it’s time to bring a new level of performance and technology to the track with the Harley-Davidson XG750R,” said Harley-Davidson Vice President and Managing Director U.S. Mike Kennedy. “The new Daytona TT promises to be a thrilling event. If you are in Daytona for Bike Week, ride to the race and help the Factory Team kick off an exciting season.” With a custom chassis purpose-built for flat track racing, the XG750R flat tracker is powered by a race-modified, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 750cc Revolution X™ V-Twin engine originally engineered for the Harley-Davidson Street® 750, a motorcycle designed for maximum urban maneuverability with rebellious Dark Custom™ attitude. “Unlike our competitors, we are going flat track racing behind an American-made production engine,” said Kennedy. “The XG750R is a purebred racing motorcycle, but its modified engine is based on the same Revolution X V-Twin anyone can buy from a Harley-Davidson dealer in a Street 750 motorcycle, an engine designed by Harley-Davidson engineers and assembled at Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations in Kansas City. There’s a direct link from the Street 750 to the XG750R flat tracker the Factory Team will be racing for a championship, and that link is our passion for performance.” The XG750R raced through a development season in 2016 alongside the air-cooled Harley-Davidson Factory Team XR750 motorcycles. The XR750 has carried racers to countless victories and 37 AMA Grand National championships in 44 seasons of competition. That winning DNA is the foundation of the XG750R, an evolutionary step into the future of flat-track racing. Its race-tuned Revolution X engine and racing chassis were developed in collaboration with Vance & Hines Motorsports. The XG750R flat tracker motorcycle is not a production model. The 750cc XG Revolution X V-Twin engine is for sale through Harley-Davidson dealers today and can be modified for racing use by aspiring dealers and privateers. The 2017 Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Team will be revealed during live ABC network coverage of ESPN’s X Games Aspen on Saturday, January 28 at 2:44 p.m. ET. Entering its 64th consecutive season, American Flat Track is the most historic form of American motorcycle racing. The re-vamped 2017 American Flat Track series features 18 rounds of racing headlined by powerful, twin-cylinder motorcycles in the AFT Twins class. The Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Racing Team is proudly partnered with Vance & Hines Motorsports.

Custom Bikes Of The Week: 21 June, 2020
A Honda CB650R scrambler inspired by the Dakar rally, a quirky shovelhead from Keino Cycles, and a peek at the latest bikes from rising Austrian brand Brixton Motorcycles.
Harley-Davidson Shovelhead by Keino Cycles New York-based Keino Sasaki has several classic Harley builds under his belt—but most of them are choppers. For this personal project, Keino wanted to do something different while still maintaining his signature style. And he wanted to build a bike that’d be a blast to ride, too.
Keino started with a 1968 88-inch Shovelhead, then grafted on the front end from a Dyna Sport. The rear was given a boost via a pair of Öhlins shocks, and a pair of nine-spoke alloy wheels with dual front disc brakes went on.
The sharply-contoured bodywork is all custom, and is finished in a minimalist matte paint job with pin stripes to accent the lines. Keino opted for mid-mounted controls with custom linkages, and a set of his own ‘Real McCoy’ handlebars for an aggressive riding position. Other upgrades include a set of Performance Machine controls, and a new starter from Tech Cycle.
The engine was treated to an open primary belt and clutch kit from Belt Drives, Ltd, and two-into-one headers that terminate in a Cone Engineering muffler. It’s a fresh take on the venerable Shovelhead donor—sort of a vintage V-twin with a modern street tracker bend. Unsurprisingly, a customer put money down for the bike before Keino had even finished it. [Via | Images by Ryan Handt]
Honda CB650R by Honda Wingmotor Honda claimed victory in this year’s Dakar Rally, but they did it with a purpose-built, single cylinder race machine. This bizarre scrambler is a four cylinder road bike posing as a rally machine, and we love it for that.
It’s based on a brand new CB650R—Honda’s current middleweight naked, which is so well-styled it could almost be called a modern classic. The custom work was done by Lisbon Honda dealer, Honda Wingmotor, as part of a custom build-off in the region. And the custom work is both skilful and daring.
The CB retains its OEM tank and some of its bodywork, but it’s been augmented with MX-style panels up front, a high fender, and a reworked seat and tail. There’s also a sump guard of sorts lower down, wrapped around the four-into-one headers that extend back into an Arrow muffler.
Honda Wingmotor kept the original 17” wheels, but they now wear TKC80 rubber. Up top are a set of hand guards, along with a full nav tower and screen, complete with road book holder. The race-replica livery serves to commemorate Honda’s 2020 Dakar victory, and the graphic on top of the tank is a tribute to Portuguese Honda racer Paulo Gonçalves, who lost his life in the very same rally. Yamaha XT550 by Francis Von Tuto In 1982, Yamaha upgraded the XT500 and released the XT550. It had 59 more cubic centimeters, made six more horses and featured a mono-shock rear end—but it looked way different too, and doesn’t hold nearly the same vintage appeal now.
This XT550’s been giving a serious dose of its predecessor’s style by Francesco Tutino—an Italian who runs Francis Von Tuto Moto Works in Australia. The bike belongs to a friend of Francesco’s, who nearly didn’t take the project on, because the donor looked like “a rusty pile of white sh*t.” But the friend insisted, and Francesco successfully turned the rust pile into a respectable vintage scrambler.
Francesco’s first job was to get it running—from the dodgy wiring right across to the dirty carbs. The engine also came without a clutch cover, with broken fins, and with a ton of rust. But it looks better than factory now, thanks to a full rebuild and resto. Francesco also built a high-slung exhaust system, exiting in twin reverse-cone mufflers.
A Yamaha YZF250 lent the XT its upside-down forks and rear shock, and a new set of 19F/18R wheels were laced up. Francesco trimmed the subframe up top, then added a new seat and a XT250 fuel tank, finished in XT500 replica graphics. The fenders are repurposed Harley items, the headlight’s a modern Koso LED unit, and there’s a Daytona LED speedo behind it.
The overall effect is both more classic, and more modern, than the forgettable donor was. [More]
The Brixton Crossfire 500 Brixton Motorcycles is a relatively new motorcycle manufacturer, but all of their bikes have a stylish throwback feel. The Crossfire 500 (above) and 500 X (below) are their latest offerings, and their largest capacity motorcycles so far.
Brixton threw the wraps of the Crossfire at last year’s EICMA convention, and it’s now officially heading into production. It’s an eye-catching bike, with styling that places it somewhere in between Husqvarna’s two ’pilens, and Yamaha’s XSR range. The motor’s a 486 cc parallel twin, good for a claimed 35 kW, and the listed weight is 190 kilos.
There’s precious little information out there about Brixton: we know the company is part of the Austrian KSR Group, which imports several Chinese brands and has a design center in its home country. But the Crossfire looks good, with accoutrements like LED lighting and a digital speedo.
Autoevolution are reporting a RRP of €6,249 (US$6,990) for the base model, and €6,549 ($7,320) for the ‘X,’ which appears to sport a few styling upgrades.
There’s no word on pricing or availability outside of Europe just yet, but if those numbers are anything to go by, it should be competitive. Color us curious. [Brixton Motorcycles]
