EoA name meanings
I was listening to the @themagicwithinpc podcast and I’ve been just amazed by how detailed oriented the EoA team is. It’s like they have our meanings behind everything. And since I’ve seen a few posts about the meanings of the Los Cuatros Amigos, Isabel and Esteban, I decided I would see if they put that same amount of detail to minor characters. And I found out, they have.
Luisa Flores: Spanish/Portuguese origin meaning “renowned warrior.” And how! We have seen Luisa when she is angry or competitive, you don’t want to mess with grandmama bear,
Francisco Flores: Spanish/Portuguese form of “Francis,” meaning “Frenchman or free man.” So I suppose it is a tribute to his former vigilantism and keeping Avalor safe and free.
Armando Gutierrez: Armando's name means "army man" in any language. Gutierrez is of Jewish-Spanish origin meaning Son of Walter and derived of Gutierre meaning "he who rules. This seemed like a joke until I remembered Armando’s very brave actions against the supposed chonopos in Blockheads. As for his last name, he is chief of the castle so he rules the staff.
Higgins: "Higgins is of Irish origin meaning "intelligence" which I suppose could be a fun irony that the creators chose for him.
Alonso Ramon: Alonso has Spanish-Germanic origins and has a variety of meanings such as "eager," "noble," "ready." Ramon is a Spanish sure-name meaning "counsel protection." Alonso’s first name is perfect. His whole song was about how tough it was to be a royal and how he wanted to be free to have fun. I would like to think his last name indicates that he will grow into a wise king like his father.
Valentina Montanez Torres: Feminine form of Valentine and meaning "strong, vigorous, powerful." All perfect adjectives Manual would give his princess. Montanez means mountains and Torres means towers in Spanish. Perhaps we will go to Paraíso some day and see that the castle has lots of towers on a mountain?
Marisa: Latin origin meaning "star of the sea." No explanation needed. She is a beloved treasure out of the sea and in.
Marzel: Seems to be taken from the French name, Marcel which means "little warrior.” While we don’t have enough of his personality to go off of yet, he is the protective type. So warrior it is.
Pescoro: Italian origin derived from pesci meaning fish. No doubt to reference his sirena status.
Camila:" Latin-origin. Meaning "young, ceremonial attendant." I did not find this to fit at all with Camila's high status as queen and how she is clearly on equal ground with her husband. So I searched the flower meaning. Camillas represent different stages of love, and were used in marriage ceremonies to promote faithfulness and long lasting devotion. Depending on the color they can also represent passion, desire, excellence.
Daria: Greek and Persian origin meaning "maintains possessions well" and "sea."  Uh yes she does. She guards Coronando with her life against those torpedos.
Cristobal Flores: Spanish form of Christopher, meaning "bearing Christ." I think this was supposed to be one of those really ironic name. Or just referencing Christopher Columbus who committed genocide on the native peoples in pursuit of gold which you could argue is what Cristobal was willing to do to his family and the sirenas for Shuriki.
Carla Delgado: Carla's name has many different meanings depending which origin you take it from. So I chose the ones that best fit her which was the Italian for "free man" and "strong."
Victor: Victor's name is of Latin origin for "conquerer" or fittingly enough, "victor." Delgado is a Spanish sure name meaning "thin, slender, dainty, exquisite."
Fiero: Italian origin for "proud." Which is what made him take his rejection of royal wizard position so harshly. He felt his pride and abilities were being disrespected. Plus he continues to see himself as superior to those he is working with like the Delgados. Not that I blame him.
Rafa de Alva: Rafa is a Spanish name meaning "God has healed." While De Alva means "of Elf." While the first one seems to fit common hc that Rafa would use her magic to heal, I’m not sure what to say about the Elf last name.
Alacazar: Derived from the Spanish "alcazar" which is any fortress built by the Spanish moors and Alacazar was the last barrier between Shuriki and Elena, as he went to protect the royal family. Plus Alcazar is the Spanish verb “to reach” which he definitely reached high fame and knowledge,
Daniel and Scarlet Turner: Daniel is a Hebrew name meaning "God is my judge." Scarlett is another type of red. Turner is a French-originated neame meaning "starling." While I’m not sure how to interpret Daniel’s name, I think Turner could indicate how sailors use stars to figure out the direction of their ships. Or just indicate that their daughter will be a star someday.
Julio Guzman and Carmen Guzman: Julio is Spanish for the month of July, it also means youthful. Carmen is a latin name meaning "song.” Julio’s fits perfectly but I’m not sure about Carmen. I suppose we need to hear her sing more but now the Carmen opera makes sense to me. Anyway, Guzman is Spanish form of "Good man” which is perfect because Julio is a good man of commonor status chosen to be a Magister for the needs of the people.
Prof. Mendoza: Basque surename meaning "cold mountain." No idea what that means for her? I guess it could be because lots of ruins like temples are found at mountainsides.
Olivia: Latin name meaning "olive tree" and we all know that the olive represents wisdom and usefulness which is exactly what Olivia strives for her wizard training. To become wise and to be helpful to others.
Rico Villalobos: Both of Spanish origin Rico means "brave ruler" and Villalobos is "town wolf." Rico is a brave guard in battle and I suppose his bullying behavior could be compared to an alpha wolf trying to be in charge of the pack.
Hortensia Paloma: Latin for "of garden" which made no sense for her character so I looked up the flower meaning again. Hortensia is Latinized form of hydragena which symbolize boasting, not thinking of others, vanity, prosperity, understanding between two people. Paloma is Spanish for dove, those symbolize purity, and gentleness which doesn't fit her at all in my opinion.
Amara: Latin for "everlasting.” It doesn’t specify what is everlasting so I choose to interpret that she has everlasting loyalty and friendship to Isabel.
Cristina: Latin for “follower of Christ.” Not really sure how to interpret this one to fit her character.
Quique: Spanish for "home ruler.” Quinque was the ruler of the classroom before he gained the friendship of Isabel so maybe he will be a big authority figure when he is older.
Tomiko: Japense origin for "happiness child" which fits Tomiko to a T.

Protect Our Public Lands: An Open Letter To America
The North Face deeply values the preservation of our public lands – not simply because they are integral to one of our country’s largest economic engines (the outdoor economy) and are an important part of our business – but because public lands are one of the most vital shared spaces of our civilization. Protecting, preserving, honoring, and embracing these lands gives people places to play, enjoy our country’s iconic beauty, and push their physical limits.
We are proud to have signed the Outdoor Industry Business Leaders Letter on Public Lands to support preserving public lands for future generations to explore, play and connect with nature.
To our elected officials and those who value America’s great outdoors:
This open letter expresses the view of more than 100 leaders of large and small businesses in the outdoor industry, which contributes more than $650 billion annually to the U.S. economy, generates $80 billion in tax revenue and employs more than 6 million people. Together, we represent a huge range of activities – from hiking to hunting and camping to conservation.
Our businesses make the lives of everyday Americans, from every corner of the political spectrum, healthier and happier. We do not often unite as an industry in the way we are today, but we are compelled to make clear our collective view on a vitally important issue that affects the economic health of our industry, our local communities, and the lives of all Americans.
It is an American right to roam in our public lands. The people of the United States, today and tomorrow, share equally in the ownership of these majestic places. This powerful idea transcends party lines and sets our country apart from the rest of the world. That is why we strongly oppose any proposal, current or future, that devalues or compromises the integrity of our national public lands.
Yet as the 115th Congress begins, efforts are underway that threaten to undermine over one hundred years of public investment, stewardship and enjoyment of our national public lands. Stated simply, these efforts would be bad for the American people. They include the potential of national public lands being privatized or given to states who might sell them to the highest bidder. This would unravel courageous efforts by leaders from across the political spectrum up to the present day, including Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt.
This is not a red or blue issue. It is an issue that affects our shared freedoms. Public lands should remain in public hands.
We hold these views both as leaders of the outdoor industry — which creates significant economic value for this country — and as individuals who believe deeply that the next generation should be free to benefit from our national public lands as we and our families do today.
The undersigned companies are therefore working together to ensure that all Americans maintain their right to our iconic national public lands and that it is not taken away.

Liga MX W2W4 - Julio Furch stepping up for Santos Laguna, Tigres must keep focus
Liga MX action returns to action following the international break and there are plenty of storylines as the 2018 Apertura begins the second half of the season. Here is what we'll be watching:
Can Necaxa upset undefeated Cruz Azul?
Necaxa was one of the talking points of the first few weeks of the season, mainly due to Marcelo Michel Leano's presence on the bench. The 31-year-old -- a friend of Argentina legend Cesar Luis Menotti -- had his team playing attacking football, was shaking journalists' hands after news conferences and had made more than a few onlookers sit up with two wins from the first three matches of the Apertura tournament, especially the victory over Club America.
But the hype has dried up a little bit since. Leano's side hasn't won any of its last five games and now sits down in 15th position on eight points from eight matches.
In a league in which only four points separates third-placed Monterrey (14 points) from 13th-placed Puebla (10 points), Necaxa is in danger of dropping off the chasing pack.
This Saturday's game at home against Cruz Azul feels important. It's an opportunity after the international break to recapture some of the excitement that Los Rayos had sparked over the early games.
Naturally, it works both ways. Cruz Azul is the best team this Apertura so far by some distance and still unbeaten. It certainly won't be easy for Necaxa.
The returning 20-year-old Cruz Azul forward Roberto Alvarado will be keen to put a below-par performance against the United States behind him against his former club, while 20-year-old Chilean Victor Davila is looking to build on his five goals for Necaxa so far this campaign.
Leano's tactics will be fascinating. The young manager talks a lot about being the protagonist and his attacking philosophy, but against Chivas sent his team out to sit back in a 1-0 loss. When faced with Pedro Caixinha's Cruz Azul -- the best counter-attacking team in Liga MX -- going on the front foot and leaving spaces behind may not be the best strategy.
Either way, this is a game that shouldn't be missed and should just about be over by the time Saul "Canelo" Alvarez takes on Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas on Saturday night. -- Tom Marshall
Julio Furch maintaining his blistering streak with Santos Laguna
Since August, no attacking player has been more impressive than Santos Laguna's Julio Furch. In his last six games, the striker has amassed an astonishing total of five goals and six assists for Los Guerreros. Keeping in mind that his squad collected 11 goals during that run, Furch has now had a hand in over 80% of the goals from Santos Laguna in those six matches.
Simply put: The Argentine has been incredible in recent weeks. Since the exit of a key player like Djaniny Tavares over the summer, Furch has stepped up for the 5th-placed team that was expected to struggle this season.
This Sunday, the 29-year-old will look to build off of that momentum when Santos host an inconsistent Leon. With only 10 points in eight matches, Leon have been average at best in the Apertura. Keep in mind, the last time Los Panzas Verdes visited Torreon in February of this year, Santos embarrassed the away side with an eye-catching 5-1 win at the Estadio Corona.
Can Furch and company recreate a similar scoreline this weekend at home? After collecting two draws and a loss in their last three games, Santos appear due for a win in the near future. At the very least, we can likely count on another goal or assist from the Argentine striker who has been near-perfect for club. -- Cesar Hernandez
Tuca to El Tri heats up as Tigres visit Pachuca
Ricardo Ferretti makes his return to the Liga MX sidelines this weekend as his team dominates headlines for its ongoing negotiation with the Mexican national team. Ferretti has gone from openly wanting to coach Mexico in the 2000's, to steadfastly refusing the job in the last World Cup cycle. It appears that now, he's warming to the idea of potentially taking over for a four-year period, but his long-term contract with Tigres requires a bit of handwringing and deal-making.
This weekend, Ferretti and his Tigres will face off against the other team that had previously dominated headlines in Pachuca. Now without star player Erick Gutierrez, Los Tuzos have firmly planted themselves as the team most associated with the development of future stars in Mexico at this time. Gutierrez, now with PSV, joins former Pachuca forward Hirving Lozano while players like Rodolfo Pizarro and Jurgen Damm (now at Tigres) have also gone through the system.
While players like Erick Aguirre and Victor Guzman look next in line to join their former teammates at bigger clubs either at home or abroad, the match this weekend pits two entirely different strategies against each other: the high-spending Tigres against the youth-oriented Tuzos. -- Eric Gomez

Sporting Kansas City vs. Toronto FC | 2018 MLS Match Preview
July 5, 20181:09PM EDT
Sporting Kansas City vs. Toronto FC 2018 MLS Regular Season — Week 19 Children’s Mercy Park — Kansas City July 7 – 8:30 pm ET WATCH: TSN4, ESPN+
Sporting Kansas City are seeking to snap a skid that has seen them slip to second place in the Western Conference when they host a Toronto FC side that have lost three straight games and is seeing their season go up in dust.
Both teams are looking to rebound from midweek road defeats, with Sporting losing 4-2 at Real Salt Lake and TFC dropping a 4-3 decision at Minnesota United FC.
Sporting Kansas City
Sporting (9-4-5) are falling back into bad early-season habits, conceding eight goals in their last three games, including six in back-to-back defeats.
On Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium, Daniel Salloi put the visitors in front in the 20th minute, but goals by Jefferson Savarino and Corey Baird eight minutes apart and another by Sebastian Saucedo in first-half stoppage time put SKC in a 3-1 halftime hole.
Ike Opara pulled Sporting to within a goal in the 64th minute, but Peter Vermes’ side couldn’t get the equalizer and conceded a Luis Silva penalty kick in the 10th minute of second half stoppage time after both Salloi and Roger Espinoza were sent off late.
“It’s embarrassing,” goalkeeper Tim Melia said. “We really need to just kind of look within and look at us as individuals. We’re not playing like a team. We’re making mistakes all over the field from back to front. We need to really take a look at ourselves, unwind after this game and figure this out.”
Suspended: F – Daniel Salloi, M – Roger Espinoza
Suspended after next caution: None
International duty: None
Injury Report: OUT: M – Felipe Gutierrez (sports hernia surgery), D – Jimmy Medranda (knee injury), M/D – Cristian Lobato (knee injury), M – Gianluca Busio (hamstring injury); QUESTIONABLE: D – Amer Didic (hamstring injury)
Projected Starting XI (4-3-3, right to left) GK: Tim Melia — Graham Zusi, Ike Opara, Emiliano Amor, Seth Sinovic — Yohan Croizet, Ilie Sanchez, Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal — Johnny Russell, Khiry Shelton, Diego Rubio
Toronto FC
A critical month started off in the worst possible way for Toronto FC (4-10-3), which fell in a quick two-goal hole and never fully recovered, falling to Minnesota United, 4-3, on Wednesday.
Darwin Quintero and Miguel Ibarra put the Loons in front, 2-0, after just 13 minutes. Justin Morrow cut the Reds deficit in half late in the first half, but Quintero added two more goals five minutes apart early in the second half to again extend Minnesota’s lead.
Sebastian Giovinco and Jordan Hamilton scored inside the final 20 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to halt a losing streak that is now three games.
“Nobody has packed it in; nobody is looking around saying, ‘Let’s just get out of here today.’ We’ve tried to keep going, tried to keep playing, tried to find ways to get goals. And on a lot of nights we’ve done that,” Michael Bradley said. “The issue is when you put yourself behind so many times, your ability to come back… you can’t do it all the time.”
Suspended: None
Suspended after next caution: None
International duty: None
Injury Report: OUT: F – Jozy Altidore (foot surgery), D – Drew Moor (quadricep strain), D – Chris Mavinga (hamstring strain), GK – Caleb Patterson-Sewell (elbow injury), D – Auro (hamstring strain), D – Jason Hernandez (hamstring strain); QUESTIONABLE: M – Victor Vazquez (knee injury)

Mexican rivals attack leftist in second debate, Trump hovers over…
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – The chasing pack of Mexican presidential candidates attacked front-runner Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in a second televised debate on Sunday without landing major blows in exchanges that often returned to fraught relations with the United States.
(L-R) Independent candidate Jaime Rodriguez Calderon, Ricardo Anaya of the National Action Party (PAN), Jose Antonio Meade of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) pose for a photo in their second televised debate in Tijuana, Mexico in this May 20, 2018 handout released to Reuters by the National Electoral Institute (INE). National Electoral Institute/Handout via REUTERS
Leftist Lopez Obrador sought to deflect questions, as he did in the first debate last month ahead of the July 1 election. He stuck to many of his stock responses to defend his sizeable opinion poll lead, rarely rising to the bait and occasionally mocking his rivals.
The debate, focused principally on trade, migrants, the Mexico-U.S. border and the fight against criminal gangs, drew several rebukes of U.S. President Donald Trump, whose broadsides against Mexico have stirred widespread animosity.
The second-placed challenger, 39-year-old Ricardo Anaya, crossed the stage to address Lopez Obrador face to face in a bid to rile the former Mexico City mayor.
But the 64-year-old Lopez Obrador brushed off the attacks, dismissively calling Anaya a “liar and a fraud.”
“Anaya is a little bum demagogue,” Lopez Obrador said, at one point laughingly telling the audience in the northern city of Tijuana he was watching out for his wallet when Anaya approached him to challenge his record as mayor of the capital.
Anaya, who is heading a right-left coalition, emerged as the victor of the first debate in some polls.
He tried to paint Lopez Obrador as out of touch, ill-informed and beholden to outdated economic models. But Lopez Obrador showed fewer signs of irritation than in the first debate, remaining in good humor and rarely wandering from his script.

‘ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESS’
Lopez Obrador, who in some polls has a lead of 20 percentage points over Anaya, recycled much of his campaign rhetoric, and pledged to make Trump respect Mexico if he is elected.
“I want a friendly relationship with the government of the United States, but not one of subordination. Mexico is a free country, it is a sovereign nation,” Lopez Obrador said. “We will not be subject to any foreign government.”
Lopez Obrador said he would propose an “alliance for progress” that included Mexico, the United States, Canada and Central America to foster job creation, grow the economy and pacify the region. He did not offer details on his plan.
In his third tilt at the top job, Lopez Obrador has capitalized on widespread disenchantment with the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) over corruption, rising levels of violence and sluggish economic growth.
The PRI candidate, former finance minister Jose Antonio Meade, has struggled to make an impact, and again found himself defending the unpopular government of President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Lopez Obrador came close to winning the presidency in 2006 and was runner-up again six years later.
This time around, Lopez Obrador has cut a more relaxed figure on the campaign trail, largely avoiding the kind of outbursts that in the past helped adversaries depict him as a threat to the stability in Latin America’s No. 2 economy.
Despite softening his tone, Lopez Obrador has butted heads with Mexico’s business community, calling several tycoons influence traffickers who benefit from corruption.
Lopez Obrador has already caused concerns with threats to walk back the liberalization of the country’s oil and gas business and to scrap a new $13 billion Mexico City airport.

Todd English Launches Hook at Uptown Parade BGC
The success of Todd English Food Hall in SM Aura Premier has led to the launching of its second spinoff, Hook, following the opening of its burger restaurant, Pound by Todd English in Bonifacio Global City last year. This time, it is the Raw Bar section of Todd English Food Hall which is getting its own stand-alone establishment, featuring fresh oysters and seafood to the delight of its patrons.
Hook by Todd English held its official launching last May 19, 2017 at the Uptown Parade in Bonifacio Global City. The restaurant is located right at the ground floor of one of the hottest lifestyle and entertainment strips in the city which include hotspots such at The Palace Pool Club and Salvatore Cuomo & Bar. The Hungry Kat was invited to its exclusive opening party, and with my love for oysters and seafood, I was sure to have a fabulous time.
The Grand Opening was hosted by none other than Raymond Gutierrez and was attended by some of Manila’s top movers and shakers. Hook is open daily from 4:00pm to 12:00mn and despite the awful Friday night traffic, the place was packed with influencers and celebrities who wanted to party and celebrate with overflowing champagne and seafood.
Hook can accommodate a total of 76 guests on the first floor and another 20 guests on the second floor which can also serve as a private function area. I’m glad I was able to arrive early at the restaurant, because it became standing room only later on in the evening with all the guests that started to arrive. Some of the notable personalities included Ruffa Gutierrez, Alice Dixson, Victor Basa, JM Rodriguez, Bubbles Paraiso, Charles Tiu, and Megaworld SVP Kevin Tan.
The place has an open kitchen and a bar area where you can have a quick drink while savouring their seafood specialties. I love these porthole designs on the wall where you can peep through and see all the other chefs at work inside the kitchen
FOODEE Global Concepts CEO Eric Dee, who I also met at the grand opening, explains that Hook by Todd English focuses on borderless seafood - cuisines which combine Asian, European and Western influences. Their ingredients are guaranteed fresh catches from the different parts of the country and the world. In fact, their Tuna come from General Santos, the Pink Salmon comes from Norway and the Oysters are delivered fresh daily from Aklan.
Of course, what is a great party without bubbly drinks? Signature drinks and cocktails were served to the guests that evening and I can’t actually remember how many glasses of champagne I had that evening. I’m sure it was more than five. Hook also offers Free Flow of Beer during their Bubbly Hour, every 4:00pm to 7:00pm with an encore form 10:00pm to 12:00mn
Other drinks like scotch and whiskey are also available at the fully-stocked Bar so you can party on all the way until midnight.
We started the night with some appetizers like the Taro Chips and Fries. These sweet and crunchy starters are great to nibble on while socializing with friends.
I love the Salmon Tataki with its fresh slices of salmon topped with a special sauce.
The Baby Squid and Garlic would be a perfect bar chow with its crunchy calamari served on a hot pan. This would go well with just about any beverage.
The highlight at Hook by Todd English would definitely be the Oysters. Their Oyster with Apple Sriracha Granita were served to guests and I just can’t have enough of these babies. They were really fresh and huge! I didn’t really need anything else aside from a few drops of lemon on top of my oysters.
Oyster lovers like me will be delighted to know that Hook also has an Oyster Happy Hour. Diners can have all the fresh oysters that they want between 4:00pm to 7:00pm for only $1 per piece! I believe I can finish off more than a dozen. They also have a encore from 10:00pm to 12:00mn daily.
Throughout the evening, we were also able to sample a few other appetizers such as the Scallop Motoyaki, Crispy Tuna Poke, and Blackened Tuna together with overflowing drinks and beverages. Our main dish was the Whole Roast Salmon with Couscous Tabbouleh. This tender salmon is placed on top of couscous, a healthier alternative to rice.
It was a fun night to celebrate the grand opening of Hook by Todd English. I would like to thank Ms. Ariane Valinton for hosting us that evening and letting us experience this new and exciting dining destination. If you really love oysters, this is the happiest place to be, especially during Oyster Happy Hour!
