The Other Purple Vetch
Now blooming in the northwest quadrant of the park is the other plant with the common name Purple Vetch: vicia americana or American Vetch.  This variety shares with  vicia benghalensis, which I posted a couple of days ago, the quality of thriving in disturbed soil, such as after construction work.  It also supplies forage for wild or domestic animals, and bears pods that contain edible peas.…
