George Arliss as the benign smuggling vicar of Dymchurch in “Dr. Syn” (1937). Peter Cushing played the same role in the Hammer re-make.
The George Arliss version was directed by the same man who later directed “Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman”.

RD11891. DR SYN at New Romney. by Ron Fisher Via Flickr: RD11891. The 15 inch gauge Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway's Pacific No.10 DR SYN at New Romney. Although mechanically similar to the other Pacifics on the line, it has the appearance of a Canadian or American locomotive - but with buffers. It was assembled in 1931 by the Yorkshire Engine Company in Sheffield using some parts originally built by Davey Paxman in Colchester. Dr. Syn was a fictitious vicar-cum-smuggler of the 18th Century who was based in the Romney Marshes. Saturday, 15th August, 2015. Copyright © Ron Fisher.
