Nah, seeing Jack crying is crushing me 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know while we’re in it it feels like we’re in it forever. That’s not necessarily the case. Life happens. People move on. Doesn’t mean we’ll be out of each other’s lives. We’re nineteen. Family forever.

Station 19 S7E5:
Oh, Maya, we love you.
The way the crew didn't respond to anything until Andy announced that Theo resigned.
Nooooo, not Crisis One.
Maya apologizing to Beckett (ayyy, we love character development) >>>
"Just because your last name is Herrera doesn't mean you have to lead from his shadow." I missed this side of Maya. Also, what an awesome quote. I miss Pruitt, but she's right.
Warren, you are not going the Sullivan route. Warren, tell me you're fucking not. I never thought he'd do this. Maybe he does need to take a step back.
Ayyy, Dispatch Jack!! Good for him. He still gets to help people, even if he's not in the field the way he used to be.
Never occurred to me they'd take a call in this tower.
I do not want to be Vic right now. I could never do that job.
Y'know, it's been a while since we've had such a big fire. I do miss those episodes.
And there goes the fucking medkit.
Ayyy, Theo got a new job fast. And in the same field. Good for him.
Beckett, give a warning next time, man. Like, sooner. What the fuck.
Travis having a moment and being scared for Warren, regretting fighting with him. I knew he wasn't really upset with him. Because he's right, they never fight. I hope they don't kill Warren off like this. He's earned the right to be able to retire/
Not Carina being reminded of her brother 😭
Warren asking how Sully wants to propose, because he wants to talk about something exciting in what might be their final moments 😭
Stu is great, just wanted to say. Best person to have with you in this sort of situation.
"Hey, Gibby…I'm gonna need you to help look after our little girl. Alright? And tell Miranda…she was worth waiting for." 😭 😭 😭
EXPLOSION, NO.
Please, please only be unconscious.
Damn, those extinguisher spheres are fucking neat.
AYYY, THEY MADE IT. THANK FUCKING GOD.
It's hasn't been long enough since Dean for us to lose someone else.
Oh, fuck, the ring. Why did you even take it on call.
Oh, neat, Ross found it.
Beckett and Maya having a heart to heart >>>
"I will always have your back." 😭
Vic having a freak out on camera…that does not look good.
Andy having to play bad guy and send Vic home is rough, and definitely hurts everyone a bit, but it was the right choice. She is lucky she didn't get fired on the spot.
hugs Carina
God, Sully's hands are huge.
LMAO, SHE STILL LET HIM PROPOSE. The fact that she knew the ring came from him in the first place is fucking hilarious 🤣
AYY, SHE SAID YES.
Theo still coming to the ceremony despite resigning says everything. He didn't resign because of Andy, not at all. He's one of her biggest supporters, has been since they met, always will be. ❤️
Vic better not do a spur-of-the-moment thing and quit. I don't think she would, but people do things unlike themselves when they're emotional.
Ayyy, Jack's there. And he's recording it 😭
looking back on the series with nostalgia on how far the station and Andy have come
She deserves this. I'm so happy to see her here.
Fuck, the flashbacks read my mind. 😭
THEY'VE ALL COME SO FAR.

Writing Challenge Day 7: Abundant
Day Six -- Masterpost -- Day Eight
“...Honey, we have to talk.”
“About what?” Catrene grinned all the way up her husband’s body as her dark brown eyes settled on his face.
Telan’s brow furrowed as he crossed his arms. “...Are you really going to pretend like you don’t know what the problem is.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Her grin didn’t move at all. She definitely knew what was coming up and was just playing up her obliviousness.
Or at least, Telan hoped she was pretending to be oblivious this time.
Very gently, he took his wife by the shoulders and turned her around towards the nearest window. “This problem, my love.”
There were so many cats outside. Big cats, little cats, fluffy ones, short haired ones, cats of every color and shape possible and a number that probably shouldn’t have been. Gibby and Vic were playing with some of the horde of kittens that vied for their attention while some of the adults pretended to not be watching. Whatever rodents the estate would have had, Telan almost hoped that they’d found someplace else to live. He pitied whatever creatures were brave enough to land or scamper nearby.
“Ohhhh, that’s what you meant.” Catrene looked up, catching Telan’s eye as he in turn looked down at her. “Well I don’t see why it’s a big deal. Any pests just get eaten up!”
“Yes, but having such a huge population of them is hurting the population of animals who live nearby.” He ticked off the creatures in question on one of his large hands. “There’s hardly any birds that come around any more, we’re losing our population of deer...and the cats themselves are going to starve if this keeps up.”
“What?? How??” She whirled around and jabbed him in the chest with a sharp fingernail. “If they run out of prey, we can feed them! We have so much money, why not give some of it to the poor little kitties?” Her voice had gone babyish as her gaze was captured once again by the literal field full of felines lazing in the sun.
He heaved a great sigh. “The money only goes so far, dearest. I can’t just use it to replace all of the animals that the cats have killed. Or will kill if this keeps up.” Telan hesitated, but steeled himself for this next part. “A few of them have already started attacking chickens.”
“WHAT!” Catrene’s attention was now fully on her husband.
“That’s really why I needed to talk to you. Some of the townsfolk came to me, demanding I do something. Their gardens have leaves full of bite marks and a few have had to threaten violence to get the cats to leave their chickens alone.”
“Oh that should get them exiled--” Telan gently put a finger in front of her face. She huffed and let him finish what he was going to say.
“I know how much you love them, Cat, but a hundred cats resorting to eating the grass that our cattle need to eat *as well as* trying to attack our poultry...it’s just too much for the town to handle. As their--” And here he paused like he always did whenever the subject of his actual title came up. “Their lord. I invited these people to live on my land and it’s my duty to protect them.” Just as gently as before he curled a finger under her chin, though her eyes were firmly set on his face. “I’m just sorry I have to sacrifice your happiness for it.”
Dark brown eyes met warm brown ones intensely. “What’s the highest amount of cats we can have without hurting anything?”
Telan blinked. “Er. Probably about a dozen.” It was the first number off the top of his head. A knowing voice in his head reminded him that the number would probably get talked up before the negotiation was over. He shoved that voice back into the depths of his mind.
She made a tittering sound and started to mutter. Briefly breaking eye contact, she counted something on her fingers for a moment. “There’s about twice--no, two and a half times--that many kittens around, not counting the ones that haven’t even been born yet…” Catrene’s eyes flicked back up to his. “We’re not going to be getting rid of the pregnant cats are we?”
“Wha--no, we can wait until they have their litters and the litters are weaned to send them off.”
“There’s got to also be a way to just, keep the ones that are here from having more too…”
Remembering something, Telan snapped his fingers. “I’ve heard of a healer who specializes in preventing pregnancies.” Cat paused in her calculations to look at him with an eyebrow raised. He started to turn red. “N-not, that I’ve needed to contact them for any personal reason. I’m just saying we could have them teach those techniques to anyone with the gift for healing magic in town. A-and it could apply to the cats!”
“...Fair.” Her eyebrow lowered back down as she started thinking further about the problem. “They’re wandering the area so much because there aren’t a lot of spots to hide. We’re on pretty flat land. They’ll need a safe place to stay. Permanently.”
“Are you suggesting we turn the manor into a cat house?”
“WELL--”
“No.” That much, Telan wouldn’t budge on.
“Oh come on--!”
“Our servants have enough to put up with when it comes to you, Vic and Gibby.” She was too close for him to fold his arms, so he settled on putting his hands on his hips. “Cleaning up the messes that the three of you *and* a dozen--”
“Fifteen.”
“A dozen cats will inevitably make in the manor is too much to ask of them.”
Catrene’s face fell and Telan knew he wasn’t going to win this discussion. He just couldn’t stand to disappoint her. “...There is another option.”
If one could brighten up cautiously, she did so now. “Oh?”
Heaving a heavy sigh, he answered. “I could have the builders make a cat mansion.”
Now she definitely brightened up. “OH!”
“You’ll need to make sure everything’s up to snuff when it comes to the insides, but--” Telan absolutely had a point to make to his wife but she had hopped onto the window sill to jump into his arms and kiss him and all of his thoughts left his head at once.
His friends in the Wandering Knights constantly wondered why he put up with--and even married--such a spitfire for a woman. They just didn’t understand that for all the work that was put into directing Catrene’s outlandish impulses in a more controlled manner, it was moments like these that made him feel the best. Telan had never wanted to be with someone who just went along with everything he said. He’d wanted someone who knew what they wanted and would fight tooth and nail for it. Being with Catrene was all of that and more, and his heart swelled for his love for her.
The fact that he tended to cave in to her demands was just a side effect of his love.
When they separated, she was beaming with happiness. “It’ll be perfect! A mansion for twenty cats! And we can convince the townsfolk to adopt a few of them too!” Her eyes were shining with the millions of ideas that were filling her head. “And then--” She launched into rambling about said ideas as he easily held her.
He could refine the details later.

Gibson Exits Bankruptcy - Experts & Dealers Comment on The New Gibson - Sammy Ash, Vic DaPra, Eliot Michael, Drew Berlin, Mercedes Girard & Ray Mauldin
Gibson Exits Bankruptcy Today
As Gibson emerges out of it’s bankruptcy today, November 1st, 2018, the new ownership group has announced its new CEO and other key team leaders. New CEO JC Curleigh, who previously ran Levi Strauss, will hopefully return Gibson to the iconic brand of guitars we all know and love.
What The Experts & Dealers Are Saying About Gibson
We sought the opinions of some friends of Guitar Stories USA whom we greatly respect and who are in our opinion are not only Gibson guitar experts, legendary vintage and new model guitar dealers, but have also had personal dealings with Gibson for decades.
They include:
Sammy Ash of Sam Ash Music
Vic DaPra, “Burst Believers” Author, Vintage Les Paul Expert & Gibson Dealer
Eliot Michael, Rumbleseat Music, Vintage Gibson Expert & Nashville Gibson Dealer
Drew Berlin, Vintage Gibson Dealer & Expert (Southern California)
Mercedes Girard, Guitars West, Vintage Guitar Expert and Dealer (Southern California)
Ray Mauldin, Grinning Elk Guitars & 2019 Atlanta Guitar Show Producer
What We Asked Them
We asked what they thought of the new Gibson leadership team and the direction the company may be headed. We also thought you want to know how they thought Gibson ended up in bankruptcy, what Gibson could do better and what they would like to see from the new Gibson.

Audio Interviews With Vic DaPra, Eliot Michael & Ray Mauldin
These audio interviews are about 8 or 9 minutes each and have revealing insights from some of the greatest Gibson Guitar Experts, Vintage Dealers and Gibson Dealers.
Vic DaPra, author of the Burst Believer book series on historic Gibson Les Pauls bursts with Burst Believers 4 due out soon, with forwards from Jimmy Page and Billy Gibbons.
Vic is optimistic but had some great dealer insights about Gibson and what he thinks they should focus on. SInce Vic designs custom artist guitars in limited runs, he talks about the Gibson Custom Shop and key personnel.
Listen to this great 9 minute chat with Vic who shares many insights from someone who has designed Les Paul custom shop runs…besides knowing everything about 1958-1960 Les Pauls.
Eliot Michael, besides being one of the leading experts on Gibson guitars and premium vintage dealer to the stars, is Nashville’s newest and only private Gibson Dealer.
Eliot was recently at Gibson building a guitar and also discusses the custom shop.
He shares those guitar stories here. For more information on on Eliot and Rumble Seat Music, click here or on those beautiful Les Pauls.
Ray Mauldin and his partner Lee Jackson are the resident guitar dealing Southern boys and we wanted their take on the new Gibson. Ray and I discusses the new Gibson, dealer issues and the Colonel’s secret recipe and other vital information.
Grinning Elk Music is also the Producer and Organizer of the new 2019 Atlanta Guitar Show (first in 13 years) June 8th and 9th, 2019 in Atlanta. All of the premium guitar dealers from the U.S., Canada and Germany will be at this show and we will be bringing you more information soon.
Here’s What
Sammy Ash,
Drew Berlin
and
Mercedes
Girard
Had To Say:
What Do You Think of the New CEO at Gibson?
"I have no idea, I have never met or heard of him before. He comes out of Levi’s so I am afraid we are going to play the lifestyle game again. I understand not one of the new group is from the industry very typical for Gibson. They have a long and storied history of selecting people from outside with no passion for the gear. There was an old saying…never write anyone’s name down at Gibson in pen. Use a pencil so you can change it in a few months. "  -- Sammy Ash "I haven’t met JC the new CEO, I have heard nothing but good things about him. I have met Cesar who I really like, great guy and passionate about Gibson and I feel he is dedicated to making the needed changes."  -- Drew Berlin
What do you think about the new ownership group and the future direction of Gibson?
"I don’t know that either. The Gibson Company has always let the dealer be the last one to know anything. At least they are very well funded."  -- Sammy Ash "I have also met Nat with KKR who is a guitar player and a very bright and passionate Gibson guy as well. I think the new owners understand the iconic brand they are in charge of and I feel things will state to show improvement."  -- Drew Berlin
Why did Gibson did to end up in bankruptcy?
"They took their eye off the ball of what they do best and decided that Philips would be their salvation??? We are an odd industry. Outsiders just don’t get us and we don’t get them, it’s not their fault, they are nice people but they don’t have a clue."  -- Sammy Ash "I feel the former company was more interested in a larger brand presence and less interested in the employees and the guitar product. There are many talented passionate people working at Gibson that are capable of building great guitars."  -- Drew Berlin "How much time do you have?! I believe too much of Gibson’s efforts near the “end” were wasted on lashing out at dealers of certain lines and even other builders who Gibson felt encroached on their over-reaching and sometimes vague “copyright”. Instead of working on improving their brand, their instruments, their artists-I saw way too much time spent on wagging their finger. Gibson failed because Gibson failed. "  -- Mercedes Girard
What would you most like to see happen at Gibson?
"Concentrate on the quality control especially at the higher end where instruments should be flawless. Quite often these are not when comparable brands in both acoustic and electric are. It’s easy to do I guess since several manufacturers already manage to make the grade. I don’t expect the corporate culture to change very much and that’s not a good thing. My highest rate of returns in my Guitars of Distinction collection are Gibson."  -- Sammy Ash "I would like to see less versions of historic models and more defined vintage inspired craftsmanship being appalled on each guitar. I feel the builders are more excited and are focused on a better future."  -- Drew Berlin "As a woman in the industry, as a fan of a good Gibby, and as a recovering Gibson dealer, I hope Gibson can make a concerted effort to repair the damage done by Henry Juszkiewicz when he decided the industry was failing large in part due to women not being comfortable going into music stores."  -- Mercedes Girard
What advice would you give the new CEO of Gibson?
"Listen to your dealers, that would be a nice for a change."  -- Sammy Ash "As far as giving advice to the new CEO ? I don’t feel he needs advice. He wouldn’t be the CEO if he wasn’t ready for the challenge"  -- Drew Berlin
So the sentiment is generally positive that Gibson Guitars will regain its legendary footing as the iconic brand of guitars that players have known and loved for well over a century.
Time will tell but it sounds like Gibson may restore its good reputation with the guitar buying public if they listen to a few of the suggestions our panel of experts and dealers have expressed.

July 26, 2018 / 2:17 PM / Updated 3 hours ago U.S. must face multistate lawsuit over census citizenship question NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Trump administration must face a lawsuit by states and advocacy groups over its plan to ask people who are filling out the 2020 census form whether they are U.S. citizens, a federal judge ruled on Thursday. FILE PHOTO: An attendee holds her new country’s flag and her naturalization papers as she is sworn in during a U.S. citizenship ceremony in Los Angeles, U.S., July 18, 2017. REUTERS/Mike Blake/File Photo U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan denied the administration’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which is backed by 18 states and the District of Columbia. Furman said in Thursday’s decision that while Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross had the authority to add the question, which was included in the census prior to 1960, he may have wielded it improperly. A Commerce Department spokesman said in a statement that the department was “pleased the court found that Secretary Ross has broad authority over the Census,” and was “confident” it would ultimately prevail in the case. “Today’s decision is a big win for New Yorkers and everyone across the country who cares about a fair and accurate census,” New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood, who led the states in the lawsuit, said in a statement. The states, cities and organizations seeking to block the question have said it could lead to undercounting in states with large immigrant populations, jeopardizing their political representation and access to federal funds.

Blues Jays only 8 games under .500
Greetings everyone!
For those of you watching hockey last night there was quite a baseball game going on at The Rogers Centre. After the first inning the home team was up 3-2 on a Jose Bautista three run line drive home run. Repeat :a Jose Bautista three run line drive home run. However Francisco Liriano was brutal last night. He was charged with all seven Cleveland runs and it was 7-3 Cleveland going into the B3. Gibby hooked Liriano in the third for Dominic Leone, after pitching coach Pete Walker was ejected for arguing with umpire Vic Carapazza. That's Thin Skinned Vic Carapazza.
While there was temptation to watch Game 7 between the always chocking Washington Capitals and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins...I stuck with Dan Shulman's broadcast and was rewarded with the Blues Jays chipping  away with two in the third and two in the fourth to tie it.  Big Hi-light and Turning Point was The Marble Guy's  stunning two run HR in the B4 to tie the game. Holy Shit Batman The Marble Guy is tonight's First Star! Ryan Goins won it in the 9th with a base hit down the RF line to score The Marble Guy who singled off Cody Allen. What looked like certain 10 games under .500 is now eight games under .500 Three Stars of Tonight's 8-7 Sweet Win as Selected by The Luck of Manager John Gibbons Third Star The Bullpen: Leone, Barnes, Tepera, Smith and Osuna who shutout the Indians the rest of the way. ( Note: no Howell, Loup or Grilli action tonight)   Second Star Ryan Goins 3 for 4, two RBIs. Gibby batted him #6 in the lineup tonight!  First Star  Ezequiel Carrera ties the game with a two run HR and then gets on base in the ninth to score the winning run. Gibby loves Zeke and it worked tonight
Blues Jays take two of three from the Cleveland Indians. That's a good thing. Two wins, the first a 4-2 clean victory with a super human outfield catch. Good defence makes for good pitching and a Goins 2 run HR really helped. The second a come from behind 8-7 walkoff win. Again good defence and good bullpen pitching. Encouraging. Especially when Ryan Goins figures prominently in both wins. Remove Francisco Liriano's performance and last night's pitching effort is impressive, especially young Danny Barnes and younger Roberto Osuna.  The record is now 13-21. Eight games under and still a long, long way to .500....two of three from Cleveland is what they needed and got.
Andrew Stoeten writes at BlueJaysNation.com that the Blue Jays have an opportunity over the next 8 games to close the gap on getting to the .500 mark with four games against injury riddled Seattle and four against the Bartolo Colon / RA Dickey Atlanta Braves. Stoeten's blog used to be called Drunk Jays Fans and I think Stoeten wrote this article under the influence. While it would be nice to rattle off 8 wins there is not enough talent to pull that off. The Jays will play a bunch of games like their 6-0 loss  to Cleveland on Tuesday night because the Blues Jays are still a banged up team. It's wait and see on Kendrys Morales' hamstring and Devon Travis hasn't gone on the DL yet. (Although I believe Ryan Goins will be at 2B when Tulowitzki possibly returns next week in Atlanta).... Can they win 5 or  6 of the next eight?  If they do everyone gets excited. But to win 6 they must win three of four  in each series.....That's a stretch for this team, not impossible, but a stretch.
Here is something else to consider...First Place NY Yankees (21-10) have a 9.5 game lead on Toronto. The second wild card is held by Boston 17-16.....no make that Minnesota at 16-14. Two games above .500. Toronto is 5.0 games behind. You have to get help from the other teams and hope that they  keep floundering...The Blues Jays are still in a big hole, but when you win two of three from Cleveland, that light at the end of the tunnel, does not resemble a freight train. I am still not ready to say The Best Has Come And Gone... a lot of things change over 4.5 months. One Game at a Time....
More Later

I think they're gonna make Powell and gibby a thing. Let's just hope that when ben comes back and she goes back to her normal station she brings him with her
I think so too. I thought they'd have Theo cheat on Vic with Kate but maybe not. I guess they don't want to make him too unlikable if they plan on keeping them together. 🙄 There is honestly no purpose for Kate though once Ben is back so he seems fine by the finale...why is she still around? Her ass better not become a regular, it's crowded enough as is. They could both leave though, go to another station!

Writing Challenge Day 25: Disposal
Day Twenty-Four -- Masterpost -- Day Twenty-Six
“I dunno if this is a good idea...” Gibby muttered while looking down at the pile of stuff that he and his sister had gathered underneath the trash chute. Their parents had installed it to try to help the servants have a singular place to dispose the waste that a mansion managed to produce. Naturally, the siblings were told not to mess around with it.
Also naturally, neither Vic nor Gibby bothered to listen.
“Who cares if it’s a good idea,” Vic huffed as she stretched up from the chair she was standing on to try to get at the latch. “We’re gonna have fun and that’s that.” He gave a shrug as she managed to finally open the chute. “Okay, hand me something.”
It took him a moment or three to finally decide, but Gibby eventually handed her a set of spoons. Vic grabbed as many as she could with one hand and threw them down the chute. The silverware made delightful clanking noises all the way down.
Now they could have fun.
The siblings took turns throwing things in the chute, giggling at the sounds they made. Some things were boring, only making a clank followed by a slide. Others clinked and clacked together as they bounced down. Several of the toys they had brought made squawking sounds, which had sent the pair into hysterics.
It was when Gibby was about to throw in some of his mother’s jewelry that the two finally got caught.
“What are you two DOING?” Shouted a servant. Gibby, who had only just been able to lean inside the chute while standing on his toes on the chair, lost his balance. With a yelp he was swallowed up by the dark tunnel.
“GIBBY!” Vic cried, scrambling up the chair to follow him down. She could hear the servant running off, probably for help, just before the echoing sounds of her and her brother’s screams reached her ears.
The chute was dark and slick--try as she might, Vic couldn’t find any purchase on the metal walls as she slid. The path down was very straightforward: There was an angled slope that lead to a vertical tunnel down to the trash heap. Despite this, Vic still bounced against the sides several times before being deposited on top of a pile of refuse.
She was dizzy, but Vic rolled to try to find Gibby in the garbage. Luckily, he wasn’t too far off. Their angles of entry had been off enough that she just barely missed landing on him. He groaned and sat up from his spot. “Okay that was fun, but next time let’s not throw a bunch of metal down first. I think one of the forks is poking my leg.”
Relieved, Vic plopped down on her stomach. “Yeah, let’s not.”
The two had to take four baths each that night in order to get rid of the stink of the trash heap. They were also grounded for a month for disobeying and throwing things down the chute.
Their dad did end up commissioning a massive slide to be built for the siblings outside, though. So something good came out of this incident.

Writing Challenge Day 28: Father
Day Twenty-seven -- Masterpost -- Day Twenty-nine
Telan looked over the disaster of a kitchen. Flour coated every surface available, with most of it making small piles on the floor. Eggs, broken but still near their shells, slowly melded with the powder. Were it not for the two small children standing in the middle of the mess and clearly holding the milk and butter, he’d wonder where those ingredients were. Two pairs of large eyes stared up at him as their precarious balance threatened to fail. The bowl that they had been trying to combine ingredients into had failed spectacularly at being able to contain the contents.
The tense silence was broken by the boy gently lowering the jug of milk to the floor. “H-hey dad,” Gibby spoke sheepishly. Vic still held onto the butter like her life depended on it. The yellow sticks squished out of her arms and made marks on her night dress. She didn’t look ashamed at all. Not that Telan was expecting her to.
With a deep sigh through his nose, he indicated the mess around them. “Care to explain?” It was hard to gauge what exactly he was feeling. Mostly because his face was all in shadow since the hall light was directly behind him.
The children looked at each other with similar confused expressions before turning back to their father. “It’s Father’s Day!” They exclaimed in unison.
“We wanted to make you pancakes,” Gibby broke eye contact to stare at his flour-and-egg covered toes.
“And we didn’t want any help.” Vic stood tall for another few seconds before her shoulders slumped, letting some of the butter plop to the floor. “But we...kinda made a mess.” It was the understatement of the century.
Carefully, Telan made his way into the kitchen before crouching down to keep at eye level with his children. “Tell you what. Let’s clean up a bit and go to the store and I’ll show you two how to make really amazing pancakes.”
The wary look in their faces brightened up considerably. “You mean it?” Gibby bounced in place.
“We’re not in trouble?” Vic asked at the same time, a bit less enthusiastic.
“Your mother and I are going to have a long talk about making things in the kitchen without supervision...” The two winced. “...but otherwise it’s a wonderful idea. Now let’s get this cleaned before she wakes up.”
The pancakes weren’t made until later than any of them had really wanted, but they were indeed amazing.

Day 12: Stalked
Day Eleven -- Masterpost -- Day Thirteen
A few weeks after Abundant
“I hope you know that you’re being followed.” Historé, the captain of the guard, murmured in Telan’s direction. “They’re not exactly skilled at stealth.”
“No, they’re not.” Telan chuckled under his breath. He carefully kept his eyes away from where his children were very clearly hiding behind pillars. “But they seem to be having fun.”
Indeed, Vic and Gibby were also whispering to each other in the not-actually-quiet way that young children have. From the gestures that he could see out of the corner of his eye, they were play-acting as warriors of some sort. They even had their wooden practice weapons in hand. Bodyguards for him, perhaps? It was hard to determine without actually paying attention to what they were saying.
“Shall I perform the part of the bad guy?” The scar on Historé’s face wrinkled under the older man’s amused smirk.
“If you’d like.” Telan waved him away. “Not like I’m going anywhere with all of this paperwork waiting for me.” If anyone had told him that owning land and making sure his section of the world ran smoothly involved so much paperwork…
Well, he still would have used the money he’d made in his dual career of Wandering Knight and Author to buy up the land. In hindsight he probably could have hired someone else to look after things, but he was well aware of how that tended to work out. So. It was up to him to watch over and protect everyone. Even if it didn’t involve a sword and shield these days.
Telan’s musing was interrupted by the shrieks of his children. He very casually turned around and raised an eyebrow at the scene. Historé was making growling noises while Vic and Gibby valiantly raised their wooden weapons against him. While he was not only in armor but also much older than the two, the captain of the guard dodged their wild swings fairly easily. With a far deeper voice than his already low one, he declared, “You’re going to have to do better than that if you wish to save Lord Bedevere!”
“Go away! Shoo!” Gibby brandished his practice sword as if to keep Historé away. He then kept it up in a defensive position.
Vic piped up with, “We’ll keep dad safe from the monster papers! We’ve gotta!” She swung her wooden axe down at the captain’s feet, just barely missing him.
Both men paused at that. Telan could see his captain mouthing the words “monster papers” to himself before he shook off the shock and got back into character. “Indeed! I will bury your father so deep in papers, you’ll never see him again!”
“NOOOO!” Both children cried at the same time before attacking as one. With both children working together, it was much harder for Historé to avoid being hit. Eventually one of them (it was difficult to tell who, what with the giddy laughter that Telan suddenly had to fight back) hit the man’s armor with a small clang, followed by a much louder one.
True to the nature of play, the captain gave a strangled noise as he “fell” to one knee. “You...have beaten me…” Before either of them could celebrate, he continued. “But...my death...only gives way to...a greater threat.”
The children eyed each other warily. Vic was the one who responded to him. “What threat?”
Historé gave a wide grin and reached forward. “The tickle monster, of course!” With the accuracy of long practice (and gloves with the fingers cut off) the captain started tickling Gibby and Vic under their armpits. Even louder screaming ensued as the two laughed and tried to get away.
“Dad, help!” Gibby had fallen over, laughing helplessly from the tickling.
“He’s got us!” Tears were starting to run down Vic’s face from her own giggling.
With a smile, Telan got up from his chair and scooped up the squirming children in his arms. “Never fear, Lord Dad’s here!”
Yeah, he’d never give up the choices that lead to moments like these. Even if he still had paperwork to do after all was said and done.

Writing Challenge Day 1: Story
Masterpost -- Day 2 “Dad, I want a story.” Victoria huffed as her father settled the comforter around her. He chuckled and patted her head. “First you were thirsty, then you ran off when I asked you to change into your bedclothes, then you went and hid so that it’d take me a while to find you...and now you’re pushing back your bedtime even further by asking for a story? You’re really pushing your luck today, Vic.” She crossed her arms and huffed again, making sure to blow hair out of her face dramatically as she did so. "Just one, okay?” Vic looked back up at her father and gave her saddest, most pleading expression that she knew how to make. “Please dad?”
He gave a sigh and settled himself a bit better on the bed. “Do you have any requests?” Eyes sparkling, Vic sat up straighter. “Something you haven’t told me before!” “With lots of fighting!” Another voice chimed in. The two of them turned to face the doorway. Gibby stood there, blocking a little bit of the light with his scrawny body. His light brown hair was spiked in odd directions, presumably from the short amount of time he’d spent in bed.  He was wearing loose pajamas with little flames stitched on them. He grinned sheepishly at the attention. “You were taking too long, so I came to see what was going on. I want to listen too!”  Their dad turned his gaze from son to daughter. A dark eyebrow rose in a silent question. Victoria gave a deep sigh and flipped some of her cover over. “Well come on, we’re wasting time here.” Before she’d even finished her sentence, the boy had already scrambled on the bed and under the comforter. Once the children had settled down again, their father stroked his chin thoughtfully. “A story you haven’t heard before, and one with a lot of fighting...ah, I know. Once upon a time, there was a loyal knight--” “Daaaad!” Vic groaned. “All your stories have knights in them!” “Yeah, do something different!” Gibby chimed in.  "But what if the story really does have a loyal knight in it?” He pointed out with a chuckle. He was given a pouty glare from his daughter for his trouble. “Alright, alright, no knights. Is it alright if our main character starts out as one and then isn’t a knight after a little bit?” The children looked at each other with similar quizzical expressions and turned to their dad still wearing them. “This is a true story, and it involves a knight becoming the leader of an order.” He explained. Now this held the children’s attention. They’d heard plenty of their father’s made up tales before. True stories were rare and precious gems. Gibby’s hand found Vic’s without either of them looking away from their father. “I’ll take that to mean that you definitely want to hear it.” He laughed a little before settling into the cadence he used to tell stories. “There once was a loyal knight named Elyan. He was well trained for fighting, but he’d only been assigned to small jobs due to his age and inexperience.  “This all changed when the Mage Wars broke out,” The soft, lulling voice took on a deeper, more serious tone. The children squeezed each other’s hands at the shift. “While the bulk of the fighting indeed involved magic, there was a large part of it than involved physical attacks. Back then, mages were separated into clans instead of schools. Each one had a signature magical specialty instead of allowing their children to learn more than one kind of magic. These families also had the influence and money to hire fighters of their own to try to get rid of rival families. And soon enough, the families would target more than just their own rivals. “So when the Wars branched out from just mage against mage and were starting to affect whole kingdoms, Elyan was one of the first to volunteer to defend against this threat. It wasn’t easy. Not only did he have to face ruthless invaders...” He paused to glance over at his children. They were still fully directing their attention at him. “Elyan had to face against his own friends. Even his brother had decided that money was much more important than loyalty. He was in a losing battle, not knowing who to trust or who he was fighting against. “And then he met an Elven warrior named Pellinore.” Gibby tilted his head. Vic blinked, then furrowed her brow.  “Are you sure this is a real story? Pellinore doesn’t sound like an elf name.” Skepticism dripped from every word from Victoria’s mouth.  “Oh it’s real.” Her dad put a hand on his chest. “It happened about a hundred years ago, but I promise it’s real.” She continued to squint at him until he continued. “Pellinore was a fierce fighter. Hardly anyone could match his speed and accuracy. Elves rarely fought outside of their own forests, even a hundred years ago, but it was as if Pellinore had been born on a human battlefield. He and Elyan quickly became friends and together they defended the innocent civilians from the fighting. “What happened after isn’t all that interesting. There were some battles that the two ended up fighting in, but most of the Mage Wars were fought between individuals, and far away from the physical fighting. Soon enough, the major players in the Wars were destroyed by the magic they had so casually used to attack with. While the Council of Kings were busy putting together the measures to make sure that the Mage Wars would never happen again, they rewarded people such as Elyan and Pellinore with titles and a promise of lands. It was the first time in recorded history that an elf had ever been awarded a title.  “What kinda title did he get?” Gibby piped up.  “What kinda title did Elyan get too?” Vic joined in. “They both became Lords if I remember right.” Their father scratched at the side of his face. “Anyway, after they went to see the Council of Kings, Pellinore and Elyan sat down together and came up with a plan. See, they also didn’t want for there to be a huge war again, but they didn’t think that the Kingdoms were doing enough to keep it from happening again. Pellinore thought that a group should look after the mages and make absolutely sure that magic wouldn’t be used to hurt innocent people again. Elyan believed that there should be a group that would defend more than just their home kingdom from all sorts of danger. “From that talk came the formation of two of the biggest, still running neutral forces that the world has seen. Pellinore founded the Defenders of the Wall, a group that actively would fight the abuse of magic. Elyan made the Wandering Knights, a group of trained fighters who swore to protect the innocent from all dangers.” He grinned. “Which you know about, since I was a Wandering Knight myself.”  At the sudden silence, he looked back over at his children. At some point during his history lesson, the two had fallen asleep. This was hardly a surprise. Gibby and Vic were still holding hands, which was something of a shock. With a smile, he got up and readjusted the comforter to cover them. He then carefully made his way to the door, making sure that it opened enough to let the light in before he left.
