Thinking of Lawrence being haunted by Adam's ghost, but not as in a spirit or anything, no, Adam haunts him every time he drives by that veterinary clinic in town. He haunts him a year down the line when he's in a bad part of town and sees an old, faded missing persons flyer with Adam's face on it. He's haunted every time his prosthetic leg gets sore or he gets blood on his hands, when he puts on a cassette tape or sees someone smoking a cigarette, when he sees a dog chained up in someone's yard, straining and barking at everything just out of reach. Adam haunts him though everything he took for granted and every day he has live with the ghost that he lied to

George gets help
He's been wanting to ask for years, he's not very good at msl as he's alone most of the time but he also didn't know how to speak until the sanctuary started to teach him. He's had a year and a half's worth of questions of why, how and where, he gets a therapist to help work through his trauma and image issues though.
It takes a while but eventually George recieves a one of a kind cardon fibre prosthetic dorsal fin that is fitted like a corset. He's so happy that he can swim properly again he thanks the veterinary crew with hugs and happy tears
And the prosthetic fin helps him a ton, physically and mentally which means he's not as nervous the leave his cave.
During his therapy sessions he is diagnosed with a few mental conditions such as ptsd, depression, anxiety and body dysmorphia. He receives weekly therapy and medications to help with his anxiety, after a few weeks of the mix the difference in his behaviour is staggering.
When he first arrived at the sanctuary, wouldn't hunt in his tank, instead he would hide in his cave for hours and only come out to eat once the handler had places the food in his tank then retreated. Since he started regular therapy and medication he was a lot more active and did actually start performing hunting behaviours, though ambushes were a little difficult with the lack of a dorsal fin (before the prosthetic) but it was a very good sign that he was doing better.

Possible "Vagabonds" fan fic future excerpt
With a eulogy to "Tiggy" the Space Doggo
Tumblr media
For reference, this might possibly fit in a future installment for my ongoing series "Vagabonds" To read for more context:
https://www.tumblr.com/skellymom/738467105361494016/vagabonds?source=share
There is an extremely personal message at the end of the excerpt. Been sitting on this news for several weeks and needed to get it out. Opened my word document to find this excerpt. Had written it MONTHS ago. So here goes:
Warning: Very brief violence and talk of death.
Background: Wrecker and Tech are on the Marauder with the newest group of child refugees they rescued from the Empire. Unfortunately a nosy pirate looking for a bounty reward sneaks aboard. (Hunter and Echo are away on the Dread Beldame with Mad, Sil, and Love.)
The pirate advanced on the crew of the Marauder, pointing his weapon and threatening everyone aboard.  Several of the children started to cry out of fear.
“Ehh, you’re scarin’ the kids!” Wrecker angrily pushed back.
The pirate smiled creepily, licking his lips.
Tech kept his cool, quietly watching the situation.  He looked like he was waiting for...something.
“Whattaya lookin’ at, ya goggle eyed Gungan?”  The pirate snarled.
“Your speedy demise.”  Tech sassily quipped.
The toddler pointed to the dark brindled shadow quietly creeping up behind the pirate, “Tiggeee Goggeee.”
Tech stoically gave the command: “Ra’mor!”
She was upon the pirate in a flash. Took him down by the back of his neck, shaking furiously. He didn’t last long. Wrecker grimaced and grabbed the toddler in his arms while pushing the rest of the children behind him, shielding them from the sight.
“Let slanar!” Tech barked.
Tiggy released the mangled pirate.
“Briik laam.”
Tiggy immediately ran to and healed at Tech’s left side, clacking her pearly teeth excitedly.
“Jate Tiggy. Wrecker, please dispose of the body immediately. As far away from the ship as possible.” Tech held his hands out for the toddler, which Wrecker dutifully handed over.
“Awww...I ALWAYS get the dirty work!”
“Wrecker, you are the best man for this job. Remember, no shallower than 6 feet. We don’t want his companions to find him. Come children...we are safe now.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Tiggy" was based on my Amish rescue "Petunia" I obtained from work. For those of you who don't know, I am a certified veterinary nurse and work at a 24 hour veterinary ER. She came to us sick and injured at 4 WEEKS old.
Tumblr media
Attacked by her own mother and possibly needing corrective surgery for necrosis of that wound, it looked dire. The Amish don't spend a lot of money if they don't think they can recoup the investment. Her heavily infected wound burst open all over my scrubs. She was TINY and helpless. I couldn't say no.
We kept her until she was a year: paid for medical care, orthopedic surgery, vaccines, meds, training, spay surgery, the works. Unfortunately, due to her being a high drive Dutch Shepherd, we could not keep her. This breed is known for their mercurial nature and sometimes aggression. I knew there was a VERY slight chance we could keep her, especially with 2 geriatric dogs in the household. She wasn't my first rescue, either. Petunia spent time at a shelter for police and military dogs, and was evaluated for bite work. Unfortunately, she passed from the wave of respiratory "Doggie Covid" that is sweeping the US right now. With some dogs medical treatment works...with some...they don't rally from the infection. We feel sick about this and sadly miss "Looney Petunia."
Tumblr media
She now lives on in a galaxy far, far away. Love rescued her and she fiercely defends that Force sensitive teen, their family, and The Batch. She will forever track prey with Hunter, ride on Wreckers shoulders, snuggle with Omega, lay at Crosshair's feet while he polishes his rifle, listen dutifully to Tech's commands...and steal Echo's prosthetics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She LOVED to watch TV too!
PLEASE like, comment, and/or REBLOG!
IF YOU WISH TO BE ADDED OR DROPPED FROM MY TAG LIST, PLEASE MESSAGE ME! Don't just comment as I might miss it. Thanks!!! <3

chainshipping + monsterfucking (is one of them a werewolf? a freaky demon? an alien? a big fucking tentacle monster? dealer's choice 💚)
ao3 link!
When Lawrence pushed open the door to the bathroom of the apartment, he was squirted in the face with one of Diana’s old bath toys. Luckily, he was used to sudden spurts of water, and had taken off his wool jumper before entering the room.
“Childish,” He reprimanded lightly, mopping the water from his face. “You’re meant to be studying.”
“Studying is fucking boring,” Adam said from the bathtub, so many tentacles erupting from his body that it was hard to work out where he ended and began. “I’m dropping out to be your personal fuck toy.”
Lawrence shook his head, and began to unbutton his shirt. He could feel Adam’s eyes on him, almost turned completely black, like a shark. It made a shiver run down his spine at being stared at, like Adam was about to launch himself from the bathtub and drag Lawrence down into the depths.
“You’re thinking about it,” Adam said, tossing his veterinary study book into the corner of the room, the pages curled from getting wet. “You’re thinking about keeping me in this room forever.”
“It would be inhumane,” Lawrence said, pulling off his shirt and neatly folding it. “You deserve better.”
“I deserve,” Adam said. “To fuck you.”
He grinned at Lawrence, little fangs poking out over his top lip. Lawrence had felt those teeth on his cock only last night, and had been alarmed at how much he’d enjoyed it, Adam choking around his dick as his tentacles spurted roe over Lawrence’s body.
Lawrence quickly stripped down, until he was standing in the bathroom in nothing but his prosthetic. Adam licked his lips, and three tentacles reached out to touch Lawrence, stroking his arms, his chest, down his thighs. The tentacles were part of Adam, and yet had their own minds, as Lawrence had found out all too well. He sometimes had images flash into his mind at work of Adam on his hands and knees in the tub, tentacles furiously fucking his every hole.
“C’mere,” Adam said, and Lawrence was pulled towards him, foot skidding on the tiles.
“I’m here,” Lawrence said soothingly, but his stomach violently dropped when the two largest tentacles dragged him over the lip of the tub and he ended up on Adam’s lap. “Woah-“
“Oops,” Adam replied, not sounding very sorry. The tentacles were exploring Lawrence, playing with the prosthetic, one of them trying to curl inside his belly button which made his cock twitch. “Be gentle.”
“They haven’t really learnt the term gentle,” Lawrence said sarcastically, ducking his head to kiss Adam on the mouth. He tasted like seawater, and another tendril stroked his face, curling around the shell of his ear. When they first started this, one of the tentacles had tried to explore Lawrence’s nasal cavity. Lawrence had quickly put a stop to that.
“They get overwhelmed,” Adam said, spreading his legs so that Lawrence caught a hint of his pink cunt. “They think you’re sooooo cute, Doc.”
“Shut up,” Lawrence said fondly, and then gasped when a tentacle dove between his legs. “Adam.”
“What?” Adam said innocently. “We want to fuck you.”
The tentacle trying to force itself inside Lawrence was slick and bulbous at the head, teasing at his hole. Lawrence bit his lip, trying to relax himself, but he was new to this whole… thing. Adam must have sensed his tensing, and kissed him again, tongue salty against Lawrence’s own. Lawrence focused on Adam, the human side of him, and it wasn’t long before he was being breached.
“Oh -!” He said, and Adam smiled against his mouth.
“You feel good?” He asked, one hand squeezing Lawrence’s flank. “You like it?”
“I like it,” Lawrence said, the tentacle thrusting in and out of his ass. “It’s just. New.”
“You’re taking me so well,” Adam promised, hand sliding upwards to touch Lawrence’s nipples, chest lightly dusted with hair. “You’re doing so good Doc.”
Lawrence met him in a kiss again, wrapping his arms around Adam’s neck. Everything was slick and wet, the tentacles, the kiss, the bathwater surrounding them. Lawrence’s cock was hard against his belly, and when he pressed himself against Adam’s body, he left a smear of pre-come across Adam’s sallow stomach.
“Yeah,” Adam said, grinding against him. “You’re so good.”
Lawrence felt embarrassed that he needed this encouragement, especially from someone twice his junior. But Adam had a way of making it sound like the hottest dirty talk in the world, and when another tentacle nudged up against Lawrence’s hole, he went limp and allowed it to enter him.
“Fuck.” Adam dragged out the word. “I can feel you from the inside-“
“Like it?” Lawrence asked, and Adam laughed, the sound echoing around the tiles like a sea witch’s cackle.
“I love it.” He said, and wrapped his hand around Lawrence’s cock to bring him to his first completion of the night.

Your follow-up to the horse info post is just as good as the first one, and I offer a sincere thanks because those sorts of posts take forever, and are a lot of work.
But the reason I’m sending this is because of the joy of seeing the horsey prosthetics. I was aware that injury didn’t and doesn’t mean instant euthanasia, but I didn’t know what advances had been made and it’s a lovely thing to be able to help a friend live their best life.
For instances where euthanasia is the only course of action, would that be something like a horse has sustained a break that has gone septic in a time prior to antibiotics? So the horse would likely die anyway and it would be more humane to put it down than to let nature run its course, I’m thinking. Or is that completely wrong?
Thanks again for all of the hard work you put into these posts and answers!
Eugh, infections are a really horrible and scary part of horse health crisis management, because they can be very touch-and-go depending on where the actual infection is and how early it's treated with antibiotics. Once sepsis has taken hold, there usually isn't a lot modern medicine can do but try to provide comfort measures through medications, and pump the horse with large-bore doses of IV antibiotics, stress-reducing medications to keep them from panicking and their bodies from working too hard, and fluids while hoping the immune system is still strong enough to put the antibiotics to use and win against a case of sepsis. Sometimes, the bacterial load in the body is just too much or the infection has caused irreparable damage to a critical organ like the heart, and there isn't any other way to show the animal mercy but to euthanize. Most cases of sepsis, before death, result in a comatose state before the body completely shuts down from multiple organ failure, and it's an extremely miserable way to die. So yes, when euthanasia is discussed with horses, it's primarily when there is nothing else that can be done to make the horse's quality of life better while its suffering is only going to get worse (usually resulting in death) regardless of veterinary science or a limitless budget.
The problem with antibiotics in general is that they take time to work. If you've ever been miserable from something like a UTI or a chest infection, you know waiting 2-3 days for oral antibiotics to fully kick in sucks (IV antibiotics tend to work much faster, but still take a bit of time to reach full potency), because the infection is still there and causing intense pain and discomfort. The reason it takes so long is because antibiotics stimulate an immune system into going ham on an infection and destroying it. If there isn't enough time, or the immune system is already shot, then antibiotics may not be enough. End-stage or late-stage sepsis in pretty much any mammal is pretty much gonna be deadly, because sepsis is commonly called "blood poisoning" and kills by causing multiple essential organs to stop working in rapid succession - brain, heart, liver, lungs, etc. - like fairy lights on a string going out one by one after the first light fails. "Too far gone" happens, and that's when euthanasia becomes an open subject, because there's nothing left to anticipate for the animal but more suffering before they're going to die of their infection/injury.
Good vets will ALWAYS try to fight until the bitter end to provide options and other forms of intervention in saving an animal's life from disease or injury, but they also are specifically trained to know when a situation is just too beyond what they're capable of addressing and when continuing to try to treat an animal is only going to prolong its suffering before it inevitably succumbs to death. That's why prosthetics are becoming a thing for horses now! The cost of 3D printers have been going down, more designs for prosthetics are being published, and better materials are being employed for optimal horse comfort and recovery. Most injuries that result in a disabled leg in horses are caught and treated rapidly by owners and vet teams with no serious infections setting in, and so the main reason euthanasia has been employed for leg breaks and cases of amputation was more for preventing the horse from suffering without a mobility aid or prosthetic. Now, humans are catching up and figuring out what materials and structural designs work best in prostheses for horses, and we're seeing a huge increase in cases of horses surviving and living long, happy lives even after losing a leg!

Bartonella henselae
Case Report:
23M veterinary student from home with a cat, presents with a one year history of neck swelling, 1 month of fevers and lethargy. Also he lives in Karachi.
Tumblr media
The fevers are a/w chills and rigours that response to paracetamol and have no particular pattern to them.
He doesnt have any arthralgias or arthritis or rash.
They find pretty sizable lymph nodes on exam in the cervical chain and inguinal regions.
He starts developing hypotension and they start him on some vasopressors and meropenem.
The fevers don't respond, and someone decides to start azithromycin, which it does respond to.
He's also worked up for IE given the chronicity of events.
Eventually on biopsy of the lymph node, the lab finds bartonella hensalae.
Microbiology + transmission:
aka cat scratch fever, so this is why history is so important to infectious diseases physicians.
it's actually disease of cats that can spread to their humans via bites and scratches. Or the cat licks a wound etc.
and unfortunately also via arthropod vectors and mossies
after entry into a host, it's main target cells are CD34s, immune cells, and then alters the host immune system
it's interesting special power is that it can predispose hosts to other pathogens in this manner
Tumblr media
it's a gram negative rod (pink rods)
Historical trivia
the fun bits
genus of Bartonella is named for a Peruvian scientist (Alberto Barton, also had interest in brucellosis and leishmaniasis --> other tropical diseases taht cause fevers of unclear origin), he isolated the bacteria from patients during an outbreak among railway works in South america. This was 1905.
reminds me of love in the time of cholera, when people still wrote physical letters.
Tumblr media
species of bartonella henselae is actually named for Diane Henselae, a researcher from Oklahoma, who collected samples during an outbreak there in the mid 1980s.
rare for someone who discovered a species named for them to be both alive and a woman, and I can't find much about her online.
there are other bartonella species that cause historically significant diseases like trench foot (bartonella quintana, transmitted by lice) and carrion's disease (bartonella bacilliformis, with a high mortality rate). another post for another day.
Clinical features
incubation period: up to 10 days
initial: rash at site of injection or intro of pathogen, from there it travels to local lymph nodes causing lymphadenopathy about 1-3 weeks later
From CDC guidelines who took image from NEJM
Tumblr media
Bsymptoms - low grade fevers/malaise/fatigue
epidemio: occurs most often (for a rare disease) in kids < 15
Complications
infection affecting the eye (neuro-retinitis = visual changes, irritation and photophobia), liver, spleen, brain/spine (transverse myelitis, encephalitis etc), bones and heart valves (IE)
Increased risk groups for complications
HIV/AIDs, immunocompromised hosts (i.e. transplants), mortality is an issue in this group, as disseminated disease a possibility
small risk of IE in groups with RFs for develop this (prosthetic valves, damaged valves, unrepaired congential heart disease etc)
Investigations
challenging, no gold standard test as the sens and spec is variable for each individual one, so it's a combination really, of history exam and a variety of confirmatory tests
PCR (variable spec/sens), serology (indirect and often negative in early stages, can also be positive for years post treatment and doesn't differentiate from other bartonella species), cultures are definitive but it can take 21 days for anything to grow (it's fastidious)
histopath of lymph nodes helpful - stains: silver stain or Warthin Starry stain (silver nitrate) which is kind of a reverse starry starry night used for spirochetes like helicobacter.
in IE, it can be culture negative, which can confuse diagnosis
From Wiki
Tumblr media
Management
mild disease is self resolving
first line: few days azithromycin or doxycycline can reduce symptoms and is indicated for enlarged lymph nodes to reduce size or unresolving LAD >1 month
in case of eye infection or IE expect longer duration of hterapy, like doxy and rif for 4-6 weeks
will also respond to bactrim, cipro, rif and gent
Prevention from the CDC:
avoid strays, wash hands after petting cats, keep strays from your cat, avoid owning new kittens who are < 1 yr if you are immunocompromised
avoid getting scratched..which is kinda hilarious but can see why

Horror Film Review: May
Tumblr media
Subgenre: Psychological horror
Gore Level: Moderate. (CN: Animal lovers may be upset by some of the scenes.)
Confession time: I love horror movies.
Unfortunately, for most of my life, I haven’t had as much opportunity to engage with the genre as I would have liked to, for a number of reasons. But circumstances have changed recently, and I am now a happy Shudder subscriber ready to get caught up on all the screaming good fun I’ve been missing out on!
I also used to write book and film reviews on one of my old college blogs as a hobby back in Ye Olde 2010s. Writing and engaging with stories is kind of my thing, if you didn’t already get that vibe, and I missed doing that. So I’ve decided to take it up again with the genre I love so much and am finally getting to explore without restrictions.
The first film I watched with my new Shudder subscription was May, a 2002 psychological horror film written and directed by Lucky McKee and starring Angela Bettis, Jeremy Sisto, Anna Faris, and James Duval. The minute the credits started rolling after the final scene, I knew it was also going to be the first review on my list.
Tumblr media
In a Nutshell (Spoilers): May is a veterinary assistant who was born with a lazy eye which caused her to be ostracized in childhood, resulting in extremely poor socialization. As an adult, her only “friend” is a handmade doll named Soozy gifted to her as a child by her narcissistic mother, with the adage “if you can’t find a friend, make one.” May makes an effort to form friendships and connections with the people in her life, but each attempt has disastrous and eventually dangerous consequences. She befriends and briefly dates a local mechanic and aspiring filmmaker named Adam, but the relationship ends abruptly when she bites his lip hard enough to draw blood during a would-be sexual encounter – and smears his blood over her face. She takes up a short affair with Polly, a lesbian colleague who works at the same animal hospital who expresses interest in her, only to be cast aside for another woman almost immediately. Polly gives her a pet cat, Loopy, who May kills in a fit of rage when the cat hisses and refuses to come near her while she is depressed and crying alone in her apartment. (Don’t worry, no animals were harmed in the making of the film – all deceased or injured critters were created through taxidermy or prosthetics.) She begins volunteering at a daycare center for blind children and builds a rapport with a lonely young girl named Petey, who makes May an ashtray with her name carved into it, but things take a nosedive when she brings Soozy to the school in her case and inadvertently injures the children and herself when the glass breaks. Despondent, she meets a punk at a bus stop and invites him back to her apartment. When he discovers Loopy’s preserved corpse in the freezer and calls her a freak, May snaps and fatally stabs him in the head with a pair of scissors. After taking time to contemplate her actions, she declares that she needs “more parts.”
On Halloween night, she sews herself a dress and shows up at Polly’s unannounced. She slits Polly’s carotid arteries with a pair of scalpels and murders Polly’s girlfriend Ambrosia before going to Adam’s, where she kills him along with his new girlfriend. She then returns to her apartment and sews together a life-sized doll with Polly’s neck, the punk’s arms, Ambrosia’s legs, Adam’s hands, his girlfriend’s ears, and Loopy’s fur for hair. She names the doll “Amy” with the broken pieces of Petey’s ashtray. Distraught that the doll cannot “see” her, she gauges out her lazy eye and places it on the doll’s face, hysterically begging her creation to “see” her. The doll silently comes to life and comforts May by stroking her hair with Adam’s hands.
The WOW:
– The film has a really unique and creative build-up, especially for a horror film. The beginning almost feels more like a rom-com, complete with a classic meet-cute for May and Adam (awkward weird girl falling for rough-around-the-edges but charming boy). This made the dark turn that the film takes feel more surprising and startling – in a good, refreshing way. It’s a bit of a slow burn for a horror film, but it felt very organic and realistic for the characters and set the overall tone of the story very well. If you love jump scares and a lot of action, May might not be to your taste, but if you enjoy a more character-driven horror story, it’s an excellent choice.
– Each cast member delivered a fantastic performance. I could tell that the actors studied their roles thoroughly, and each character in the film felt so real. I think it’s easy to fall into the trap of relying on stock characters in a genre like horror, where there are so many well-established tropes and plot patterns, but I didn’t get that vibe at all with this movie.
– The cinematography impressed me from the beginning. There aren’t a lot of macro shots in this film; instead, the camera is focused on smaller details that may seem insignificant at first, but that add up over the course of the film to create a tightly woven, well put-together story. I thought it was an interesting choice since May frequently makes remarks throughout the film that people have different “parts” to them – and later gathers up various people-parts to create a whole person of her own. Stylistically I felt like the camera angles and focus on small details and shots also reflected the smallness of May’s very limited inner and outer world in a way that almost felt claustrophobic at certain moments.
– There’s enough blood and body parts to satisfy gore fans, but the violent scenes aren’t over the top. I was personally a fan of the shot of Ambrosia’s blood mixing with spilled milk on the kitchen floor.
– I loved how the ending was a bit of the reversal of the Frakenstein’s monster trope; instead of the creation begging to be seen by its creator, it’s the creator who begs to be seen by the creation. It was a nice twist and it got me ruminating on the intrinsic need that humans have to create: we want our creations to be seen by others – and for others to see us through the things we make – but our creative work is also an extension of ourselves, even when projects take on a “life” of their own, so to speak. (It is only after May sacrifices her own eye that the patchwork zombie doll comes to life, after all.) Maybe there’s a part of us on an unconscious level that wants to be seen by our creations, too? There’s probably a philosopher out there somewhere who can answer that question better than I can, but it was an interesting mental rabbit hole to tumble down.
The Meh:
– When we see flashbacks of May’s childhood at the beginning of the film, we see her mother insisting that the doctor will fix her lazy eye and make her look “perfect.” She later tells May to wear her hair over her eye patch to fit in with her schoolmates. She chastises May for ripping the paper off of her birthday present (lamenting that it’s now “ruined”) and instructs her not to take Soozy out of her glass case because she’s “special.” I expected that these early interactions would set May up to be something of a perfectionist, or at least for the unattainable search for perfectionism to be a stronger element in the film. I’m not necessarily disappointed that it was not – I think that it is somewhat of an overused theme in fiction – but it did feel like there was going to be a build-up to something that didn’t actually happen. I thought that this could have been tightened up a bit to flow better with the rest of the story.
– There’s an undercurrent of the supernatural in this film: May imagines Soozy speaking to her in whispers and has visions of the glass case cracking each time her connection with someone is broken. The voices and cracked glass are products of May’s fractured psyche (it’s telling that there is only one crack on Soozy’s case when May presents her to the children at show and tell, and that was from when she physically pounded on the top of the box in anger). However, it’s unclear at the end of the film if May’s creation is actually “alive” – insofar as a doll stitched together from amputated body parts can be, at any rate – or if the spontaneous animation is just psychosis. It can be interpreted either way, but all of these somewhat-supernatural-but-quite-so elements felt a little disjointed at times. But then again, that could have also been a deliberate choice on the part of the filmmakers, as we are watching the story of a very, um…troubled young woman, to say the least.
– I could have done with a little less rampant flirtatiousness from Polly’s character, but I’m generally annoyed by people (fictional or real) who make being flirty the cornerstone of their personality. And Anna Faris certainly delivered on her performance.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts:
May is definitely one of the most creative and well-written films I’ve seen in a long time – within the horror genre or without – but there’s also a more personal reason why I loved this film: May’s character deeply resonated with me as an autistic person. There were so many moments in the film where I felt my heart crack at her desperate attempts to connect with the people around her, only to be misunderstood, rebuffed, shoved off or ignored (even if some of her behavior was understandably off putting). I know what it feels like to want to make friends and connect with the people around you, but sometimes simply not knowing how, and the awful loneliness that comes with that. As an adult, social interactions are easier for me than they were when I was a child, but even now there are moments where I feel stuck on what to do or say around people. It is scary to feel like all your relationships are fragile and that eventually you’re going to say or do the wrong thing and push the people you care about away from you. That you will, ultimately, be left all alone. Humans are a social species; we have an innate biological need to belong, to feel seen and loved and cared for and to return those feelings to the people around us. The scene where May gauges out her own eye reminded me of the many ways we hurt ourselves just to get someone, anyone, to see and acknowledge us. I think that’s the real horror of May: on a primal level, nothing truly frightens us more than loneliness – not ghosties or serial killers or evil clowns or zombies or monsters – because we cannot survive in isolation from each other.
As May tells Soozy at the beginning of the film, “I need a real friend – one I can hold.” We all do. Let’s hope that we all are able to find one.
Tumblr media
(On a lighter note: as a personal aside, I found it hilarious that Adam was dressed in a Roman toga for Halloween since Jeremy Sisto went on to play Julius Caesar the following year in a two-part television movie, which happened to be the first role I ever saw him in when we watched the film in my high school Latin class. 😂)

Catfishing, a Shallura Fic
Here’s a shallura fic that I’m working on~ I’ve been pulling it up every October or so and keep getting stalled, so here’s the opening. I hope you like it!
Quick summary: Witch!Allura summons Cat!Shiro to be her Familiar. But of course, he lied on his online profile. Still, she tries to keep her head up.
Allura read the directions three times over.
There was always a nervous pit in her stomach when it came to new spells. A frizzle of excitement at her fingertips; like her powers were ready to pour out of her at any moment. Allura knelt down on a blanket, as to not hurt her knees. She inhaled, steadying her hands before drawing the circle. She put the sigils on the inside, then laid alternating tributes of snowflake obsidian and Oreos over them.
Allura was glad her potential partner had sweet tooth like she did. The online profile was fitting most of her criteria in a Familiar; not too old to feel babysat by them, not too young she feels like a babysitter, a shared interest in astrology, a patient disposition, and experience in potion making.
Her dear Uncle Coran would complain that there was no fun in it anymore. The elder used to slapdash a Summoning together just to see whatever popped up. While ignoring whatever popped up was angry they were pulled away from something.
The internet expanded their worlds, yet made it seem so much smaller. Modern society didn’t know about the actual power she could wield; and Allura liked it that way. She was merely a young woman who practiced her religion. It was comforting, keeping the rituals passed down from her mother and grandmother. If the key-chains she made were never lost, or her mugs kept tea at just the right temperature, that was just a bonus.
There was only so much one could do alone, which was why she sought a Familiar. Their heightened senses and connection to magic itself aided a witch in their studies. A partner that understood their ability in its fullest, and helped it grow.
She had been trying with several these past few months. Her poor neighbors thought she was bringing her veterinary work home with her; an absentminded parrot, an overactive Xoloitzcuintle dog, a string of indecisive geckos and distracting budgies. But as Coran pointed out; Allura was a traditionalist. When she saw the listing for a house cat, it was like fate.
Allura chanted the spell softly under her breath, and placed her hands on the markings. There was a surge of power in her hands, the vertigo made her head spin. And suddenly it was over. Allura opened her eyes.
A black and white cat was in the center of the circle, as promised. Wide gray eyes were looking at her, it’s body tensed for a moment, as if ready to jump away. The profile may need updating – the picture promised a classic tuxedo, but she could see sprinklings of white hairs here and there. She could chalk it up to stress, or an outdated photo. Then she saw his front paws. There was a prosthetic made of gray and black plastic, with a shield up to his shoulder, and small parts molded to look like toes. That wasn’t typical, most feline prosthesis only had a nub to walk on. The problem was that he didn’t let her know.
She’s met with her share of liars over the internet. The Xolo dog “forgetting to mention” he hadn’t had experience in potions, a Witch and Familiar trying to add a third, an errant Demon Hunter (as if Demons existed)...it was a wonder she still tried at all.
An injury like that would require some permanent changes to her home, even if he keep his prosthetic on. Ergonomic door handles, specialized cutting boards, maybe even a shower chair? At least she already had an electric jar opener. (And Coran said it was a waste! Well, it paid for itself in pickles and kimchi more than a partner ever could!)
Allura was getting ahead of herself, as usual. She turned to the side, picking up the contract she had prepared. The unusual terms made even more sense now. “Good afternoon,” she bowed politely. “I am Allura of Clan Altea, and I ask for your partnership as a Familiar. I understand your request and have modified the standard terms.”
The Familiar blinked, then seemed to recover and bowed in turn. “Good morning Allura.” his voice was deep, held steady by composure. “I am Shiro, and I...would like a minute.” he backed up, picking up the Oreos and the contract. They seemed to disappear out of view behind him. An essential trait of a Familiar. “Do you have a bathroom I could use?”
Her welcoming smile didn’t falter, “Yes, through that hallway, first on the right.”
Shiro nodded, his feline body gracefully dipping before nearly running out of sight.
Allura waited until she heard the door close and then she sighed and stood up. This was starting out spectacularly. .
.
.
So - there’s more. And an outline. This could be the year I finish it~ Thank you~

Unleashing the Future of Veterinary Care: How Technology is Changing the Game.
Technology has been rapidly advancing in various industries, and the veterinary care industry is no exception. With the increasing use of technology, veterinary hospitals and clinics are able to provide better and more efficient care for their animal patients. In this blog, we'll explore some of the ways technology is changing the game in veterinary care.
One of the most significant technological advancements in veterinary care is the use of telemedicine. With telemedicine, veterinarians can now remotely diagnose and treat animals, reducing the need for in-person visits and saving time and money for both the veterinarian and the pet owner. Telemedicine is particularly helpful for rural areas, where it can be difficult to access veterinary care, and for pet owners who have busy schedules.
Another area where technology is changing the game in veterinary care is through the use of electronic medical records (EMRs). EMRs allow veterinarians to easily and efficiently access and share medical records across different devices and locations. This not only saves time, but it also improves patient care by providing veterinarians with a more complete picture of their patients' medical history.
Another technological advancement in veterinary care is the use of 3D printing. With 3D printing, veterinarians can create custom implants, prosthetics, and surgical tools for their patients. This technology is particularly helpful in cases where traditional methods are not effective or where animals have unique anatomy that requires a customized solution.
Lastly, wearable technology is also making an impact in veterinary care. Devices like activity trackers and GPS collars can help pet owners monitor their pets' health and location in real-time, which can be particularly helpful for elderly or sick pets or pets with a history of running away.
In conclusion, technology is changing the game in veterinary care, providing more efficient, effective, and customized care for animal patients. By embracing these technological advancements, veterinary practice broker can improve patient care and enhance their overall business operations.

I saw a post about reading fanfic that claims to about certain characters, then turns out to be about completely different characters going by the same name, and it was kind of sticking in my head because I am very concerned about writing OOC characters, but while I was mulling over it I thought about the conversations I had with one of my writing buddies about taking "he would not fucking say that" and challenging that to become "under what context would he fucking say that?" because context adds a lot to characterization.
A good plot and the right context can get almost anyone saying anything.
The other thought I had was very specific to my Hallmark Zombie AU, particularly after Remus looses his leg and is re-learning to walk with the prosthetic he and Logan made and how I might make him a bit more Remus-y (read: more similar/recognizable as canon) and the idea I immediately had was a bit of dialogue:
"Janus reflexively ducked under Remus’s arm to help him steady when his leg nearly gave out from under him. 'You alright?' he asked as Remus started to laugh. Not a genuine laugh, Janus knew that immediately, no, this was a deflecting laugh. The kind of laugh he used when he was hurting and didn't want to admit it.
"Remus nodded and held out his prosthetic. 'Call me Peg-leg the way I-'
"'Shut up,' Janus rolled his eyes while Remus continued to snicker."
And yeah, sure it works because it's an innuendo, even if it is a bit of a stretch of one, but there is more to Remus that. He's an incredibly complex character and I think sometimes we can lose sight of the depth of our blorbos because we have imposed such narrow views of them.
Like, in general, if I said Remus made his own prosthetic during an apocalypse, there would be some assumption made that he was using wood scraps like a literal peg-leg. But Remus is incredibly intelligent and creative, his veterinary background in my AU aside, it would be true to character to have him make something function and aesthetic even in the apocalypse because he's not going to want to be stuck at home base. He's still going to want to do supply runs and patrols on their area, so needs the function that a tree branch (badass as it may look) isn't going to give him.
Very rarely have I seen a fic where the characters are too OOC. That's not to say there isn't any, but it's rarely been so much that it tripped me up a little, because the context around the character made it make sense. I think a lotta people could benefit from zooming out a little on their blorbos.
