The videos I recommend watching for context on the situation:
youtube
This one is a general informative video about how content stealing has been proliferated in the new iterations of the internet. It's longer, and while it does talk about Sssniperwolf, it's a more general overview of jacksfilms' stance and work in anti-freebooting work.
youtube
This is Jack's initial response to the doxxing. He hasn't made a video since on any of his three active channels, which is unusual to say the least. I don't keep up with him on other social media so I'm not sure how active he's been outside of YouTube content, but this is how he makes money.
youtube
This is one of Jack's videos from his parody/critique channel, JJJacksfilms. I think it's a good place to get some context on the actual impact Jack has had monetarily and legally on Sssniperwolf, which is important context for why Sssniperwolf shouldn't be getting away with this shit - because she's not just retaliating for criticism, she's retaliating against Jack informing people how to exert their rights in a way that makes it harder for her to freeboot. Several creators whose content got stolen appear in the video, and it even shows how egregious some of the stealing is.
youtube
This is a video from Sully/SullyG, a friend/collaborator of jacksfilms. He goes over why the response from YouTube isn't enough.
This conflict is growing increasingly broad in scope - jacksfilms started with the issues of content theft and the problems behind content aggregation in mind (and he's touched upon how content aggregation can be predatory for children, though he's not been very vocal about it). Since then, it's also grown to include how corporate entities like YouTube that rely on monetizing content from non-employees can perpetuate shitty and illegal things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Team YouTube waiting five days to address this, 'both sideing' the situation where there's clearly only one person in the wrong, SSSniperwolf and teams YouTube both posting their statements 14 hours ago... yeah, this is gross, their statement is a joke
youtube
Tumblr media
tl;dr jacksfilms made a second channel to react to sssniperwolf's lazy reaction videos in which she oftentimes posts other people's content without credit, Jack called her out for stealing content among other things, no one is above criticism and she deserved to be called out a long, long time ago
she then doxxed him and went to his home (she has over 30 million followers on YouTube) and showed up at his front door, team YouTube waited 5 days to address the situation and now said both sides were in the wrong, which is an insane take

Tumblr Post+ Isn’t Your Friend
Tumblr is beta-testing its proposed content-monetisation scheme “Tumblr Post+” and people are not happy.  For good reason.  Let’s talk about some of the problems:
Financial Security Measures
Getting this one out of the way early: Tumblr having our banking and credit card details does not fill me with confidence.
As this post pointed out, this is a website that has seen ray ban sales bot hacks, hacks that have taken over and locked people out of their accounts, a rampant - and still ongoing - porn-bot epidemic and all kinds of other basic security problems.
The probability that your card details would be, or stay, adequately financially protected by Tumblr is laughably small.  Even if payments and financial data are managed through a third party, the blogs associated with that information are notoriously not secure.  And given how poorly Tumblr support has historically responded to users affected by account problems, the likelihood of people being properly assisted with or compensated for lost or compromised financial data would have to be somewhere close to zero.
But even if Tumblr somehow managed to pull out a perfectly secure, ironclad financial security system, there are much bigger problems in how Post+ is being pitched.
Post+ vs How Tumblr Functions
Post+ seemingly fails to understand or be compatible with the way Tumblr functions.  Unlike Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and TikTok - which are mostly driven by following specific users/ channels - Tumblr is driven by the reblog and the function of post-sharing.  Most content on the site isn’t directly reblogged from the original poster but instead gains traction by being shared by other users with large enough follower counts to propagate it outwards.  And those users may only reblog a few posts from any given creator.
What happens, then, if the followers of those larger content-aggregating blogs aren’t (or can’t afford to be) subscribed to every Post+ user on the site?  Likely that the Post+ posts are left dead in the water, the lack of visibility leading them to not be shared beyond the blogs of subscribers.
It is baffling that the Post+ designers missed this.
Transformative Works and Monetisation: The Tightrope
Tumblr has been increasingly marketing itself with the byname “the Home of Fandom”, and the majority of its userbase consists of fan communities based around copyrighted intellectual properties. This puts Post+ in a dangerous position because fanworks, by nature, have to operate in a very small grey area that explicitly excludes direct monetisation.
Though the inability to be paid has drawn the ire of some fan-creators, the truth is works that are transformative of an existing product gain a huge advantage in terms of audience and investment.  A fancreator doesn’t need to invest the massive amount of resources and time needed to promote and build an audience that would be required for brand new works; the community comes pre-formed around the original property.  And - while it has been horrifically exploited by megacorporations - this is the good-faith reason why copyright law exists: to protect original creators from having their time, money and effort stolen by larger, further-reaching parties without adequate compensation.
In general Fair Use gives protection to paid critique/ analysis, some journalism and parody.  Transformative fanworks - fanfiction, fanart, fananimation, cosplay, unlicensed memorabilia etc - are historically far less likely to be afforded that protection, and a number of creators and large companies (Anne Rice, Disney, Nintendo etc.) are known to be very litigious.  This is why the Organisation for Transformative Works (OTW, the people behind AO3) maintains a team of lawyers and disallows direct linking to payment platforms like Ko-Fi, Patreon etc. in the archive Terms of Service - to give DMCA takedown notices and lawsuits as little legitimate ground as possible.
Charitably, you might think that perhaps Post+ is intended purely as a way for users to monetise their original content… but let’s take a gander at the wording of that post again:
Tumblr media
Post+ is being directly, explicitly, promoted as a way to monetise fan content.  This is an embarrassing lack of understanding of the basic legality of fandom on Tumblr’s part.
Ideally this would indicate that Tumblr has a strategy in place to support or protect users who encounter legal challenges for using Post+ on fanworks - similar to OTW’s legal team.  But given how Tumblr has historically been about supporting users and fixing issues, what we’re more likely to see is something akin to what happened with Youtube and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act; the platform shifting most of the burden of compliance to individual users in order to profit while mitigating the risk to themselves, leaving users out in the cold.  (Update: as of 21 July Tumblr’s Terms of Service have been changed to pass all associated responsibility and risks to Post+ users.)
At worst, this could see OTW add Tumblr to the list of banned weblinks if Post+ becomes widespread enough that they can no longer argue that it isn’t a fanwork monetisation service - something which would significantly damage the interconnectivity of fandom.  Tumblr is one of the most publicly available and least insular of the long-form mixed-multimedia sites - the freedom of widespread reblogging and multi-fandom blogs allowing a level of inter-community crosspollination that isn’t as prevalent on private blogging sites, subreddits or discord servers.  Imagine the loss of community engagement and traffic in both directions if AO3 was legally forced to disallow mentions or links to Tumblr on the archive; noting that its main competitor and other major fanwriting repository - Fanfiction.net - already doesn’t allow external links (and is showing symptoms of a Zombie site on the verge of going down) and that posts containing links to FFN frequently fail to show up in Tumblr’s search and tag functions.
Even if Tumblr were to implement a flagging system to prevent Post+ from being used for copyrighted material, the NSFW ban has already shown us how poor and inaccurate Tumbr’s automated flagging is, and we’ve seen how easily community-driven flagging can be abused by trolls and large corporations to harass other users and silence unfavourable discussions on sites like Youtube.
Creators vs Platform vs Audience
The relationship between for-profit platforms and creators is inherently hostile in all models where the creator isn’t paying a platform fee or otherwise making purchases from the platform.  As they say: if you’re not paying, you’re the product.
That means there are two different sets of incentives at play.  For creators, incentives pull towards community building and personal profitability.  For platform owners they pull towards platform-wide profitability and advertising - something that gives individual users increasingly less power.
In a situation like this, Post+ has the potential to majorly shift the dynamic of community interactions should it become widely adopted.
If Post+ becomes the most effective way for Tumblr to make money, then incentives would likely pull Tumblr’s strategy towards making Post+ as widespread as possible in order to maximise profit.  This could see the design of the site shift in ways that make it more passively hostile to non-paid, non-paying users.  For example, the potential for implementation of something like verified users, or algorithms that prioritise free content produced by Post+ using bloggers or that link to Post+ paywalled posts.  Should something like this occur it could change the power dynamic on the site; arbitrarily favouring and elevating certain voices while making it harder for free bloggers and new users to find traction and communities without buying in.
Not only that but it has the potential to further drive wedges between content creators and other community members.  Already, fanwriters and fandom olds are lamenting the shift from more collaborative, conversation-driven community structures to the ‘like and keep scrolling’ consumerist social media culture encouraged by Instagram, Facebook and other platforms. Creators have already expressed strain and discomfort at audience members who act entitled to free content while not sharing or otherwise meaningfully interacting with that content. By delineating the “producers” from the “customers”, Post+ could shift relationships in a more transactional, impersonal direction, further eroding the sense of mutual community.
And Post+ doesn’t give refunds if a user intentionally misleads you about the content you’re paying to unlock.
On top of that, the Tumblr community in general is very anti-monetisation and at times openly hostile to even small and reasonable attempts to monetise purely original content.  Not only is this, again, a fundamental misunderstanding of the userbase and community on Tumblr’s part, it also risks making good-faith early adopters of Post+ vulnerable to targeting.
In fact, Tumblr already threw one of its initial Post+ users under the bus:
Tumblr media
Pay-to-Harass
It shouldn’t be a contentious statement to say that Tumblr has a massive and widespread problem with bullying and harassing behaviours, dog-piling and hate campaigns.  In other parts of the internet “the blue hellsite” is all but synonymous with bad-faith bad-takes and witch-hunts.
In light of that, this discovery is particularly worrying:
Tumblr media
When you consider the amount of time, energy and resources some people on this site already invest in making a hobby of systematically harassing other users -  writing callout posts, falsifying evidence, sock-puppet-ing multiple accounts to get around blocks, stalking them across platforms, locating their real home addresses and contact details in order to dox them, file false police reports or send misinformation to their families/friends/employers - the idea that a few toxic users would willingly pay the equivalent of a Netflix subscription in order to become an inescapable presence in their target’s life is not at all unreasonable.
The idea that content creators could have no ability to directly moderate their Post+ follower communities is ridiculous to the point of farce.  This would be ripe for abuse by antis and other cyberstalkers.  You can already picture the ease with which someone might maintain one or more alt-accounts for the purpose of taking out Post+ subscriptions in order to become an unstoppable harasser after being blocked, leaving the user no choice but to deal with their toxicity until the support team got around to responding (if they did at all).
But unless Tumblr is going to change this, or implement a priority-response system to ensure harassment by Post+ subscribers is handled rapidly, what will be the solution for targeted users - other than dropping out of Post+ entirely to regain blocking privileges and protect themselves?
And considering that harassment campaigns disproportionately target People of Colour, Women, LGBTQIA+, Neurodivergent and other already marginalised groups...  Suffice to say it doesn’t fill me with enthusiasm.
What’s Going to Happen with the Hate Speech?
Much as we may not like to admit it, there are a not-insubstantial number of actively racist, homophobic, transphobic, anti-Semitic and other violently hateful exclusionist users and communities on the site.  Despite the bans and purges, they’re still here.
So this is more a question for the Tumblr team:  Are you going to let these groups use Post+ too?  Will users be able to monetise posts spreading Hate Speech, Propaganda and Active Misinformation?  And in those cases, are you still going to take a cut?
If Tumblr does, and they allow these people to finance their communities through the site, and they take a cut of that revenue, how legally liable could Tumblr be held for any harms caused?
And if they don’t, then how are they going to implement a content flagging/reporting system that won’t either catch in its net a large number of undeserving posts, or be easily abused by trolls and antis?
Models for Monetisation
As anti-monetisation as the community at large is, we should recognise the financial reality of running a platform.  Servers cost money, domain names cost money, paying staff to maintain basic site functionality costs money.  That money has to come from somewhere, and as a company Tumblr also has to make a certain amount of profit on top of covering operating costs.
Personally, I would be okay with Tumblr reaching out to a few more lucrative advertisers and running a small number of extra ads if that was what was needed.  However this also represents a problem of Tumblr’s own making; through their own failure to moderate and prevent harassment, toxicity, hate-speech and inappropriate content they have ended up with a platform that many advertisers would be understandably reluctant to have associated with their brand.
So let’s say they have to turn to users.  And before we do that, let’s talk about the weird contradiction in Tumblr’s actions and statements over the last few years.
The NSFW purge of a few years ago was outwardly stated as being at least partially aimed at making Tumblr more accommodating for younger users. But younger users don’t typically have access to bank cards - assuming they have independent bank accounts at all.
So then… who’s the target for Post+ in terms of the paying audience?  The adults, who supposedly aren’t the primary userbase of Tumblr? Or the kids, who generally aren’t as able to pay?
And that’s not even considering that a lot of the most active, content-generating, content-consuming fandom users are high school students, college students and entry-level workers; people who generally don’t have a lot of disposable income to regularly splash around.
Tumblr really doesn’t seem to understand who its userbase is or what monetisation models would actually suit them.
For the sake of being productive instead of just complaining, here are some suggestions for other user-based monetisation models:
A coin and award system similar to Reddit, where users could purchase Tumblr-specific fun-bucks towards trophies that could be gifted to posts and reblogs that they found particularly good/ bad / funny/ stupid/ creative/ what-have-you.
Tradeable cosmetic decorations (e.g. stickers, stamps, creatures) that could be collected and displayed on user’s blogs.  This could be run similar to a Trading Card Booster Pack - purchasing a selection of randomised collectibles that could then be gifted or traded to assemble sets or acquire rarer ones.
A Premium post-editor subscription that gave users more comprehensive text, layout and presentation options to create nicer-looking content.
A Premium Dashboard Subscription that allowed more control over font, font size, layout, palette etc.
A Subscription to premium engagement tools that could let users do things like track different reblog chains coming off their posts, sort activity history by user, post or post-type, actually mass-edit tags on multiple posts at once etc.
If Tumblr was really wedded to allowing creators to monetise, a blog-wide tip-jar system would prevent the reblog-blocking of paywalled posts and may give more plausible deniability and legal protection to fan-bloggers who mix in some fair use and original content.
The problem with most of these, of course, is that Tumblr would have to invest time, effort and resource into creating features that the community would actually want to pay for.  And, historically, they’re not into that.
Ill-considered and Underprepared
Quick credit to the Folding Ideas videos on Vidme or Why Platforms Aren’t Your Friend, React World and Gaming the Youtube Algorithm, which informed a lot of the next two parts.
Even at a glance, Post+ seems wildly unprepared, ill-considered and poorly researched. Beyond just the failure to consider the legal hurdles of monetising a mostly fandom-focussed site and how Tumblr’s content-sharing model works, the Post+ survey’s questions about post types and schedules are incredibly vague, and seemingly don’t consider some major categories of content.
Tumblr media
There’s no mention of studyblr, educational blogs, mental health blogs, character ask blogs, analytical/meta content, or many other common post types - except if you put it in as free-text under “other”.  “Writing” is incredibly vague and could cover everything from writing advice to fanfic to fan-meta to original fiction, let along different genres within that.  The same with “Textile art” or “makeup” or “videogames” or “comics”.  It doesn’t actually say anything meaningful about the content.
Tumblr media
This one’s also weird because, as far as I know, Tumblr users generally don’t go looking for creators - they look for content and then find creators through reblogs, mutuals or tags. As mentioned before, Tumblr is driven by shares, not follows. (Noting also that Tumblr’s search functions are notoriously poor).
Not only does this show a really poor understanding of the site’s content, it also raises a question. A major monetisation feature like this should be backed by market research and development.  If Tumblr has done proper market research, then why are these questions so nonspecific?  And if they haven’t, then why are they trying to crowdsource it from the community instead of doing so?
The truth is, Tumblr users have regularly voiced requests for (or complaints about) features - of which direct monetisation is not a major one.  And monetisation options already exist, in the form of Patreon, Ko-Fi, Venmo and other services.  All of which, by virtue of specifically being payment services, have better set out the relationship, responsibilities and protections between the users and the service than Post+ does.
What Tumblr users actually want are things like the ability to send asks from sideblogs, live-record audio and video posts, mute notifications from specific posts, disallow reblogs on their own posts and have more control over post visibility.  For a long time, users have been calling for feature improvements such as a more effective blocking system, better moderation of harassment, and actually functional key-word and tag searches that let you find posts instead of having to google your own blog.
Users have been especially been calling for a proper crackdown on the egregious epidemic of spam bots and particularly the porn bots which have continued to operate despite the NSFW purge - the latest wave of which being so blatant that users clicking over to check whether a new follower is legitimate are being confronted by autoplaying GIFs of up-close, real-life penetrative sex acts.
(As a sidenote: placing users in a position where they are regularly non-consensually exposed to explicit pornographic content without being given tools to effectively avoid or prevent it falls under some legal definitions of sexual harassment.  And given that Tumblr is knowingly refusing to either give individuals adequate tools to protect themselves or to implement an effective systemic solution to the problem despite widespread reporting and public complaints, it could be considered vicariously liable for the sexual harassment of its userbase.)
Given all of this, why is the paid feature Tumblr chose to propose a subscription-based monetisation tool?
What Post+ Suggests About Tumblr’s Intentions
Overall, the implementation and seeming design of Tumblr Post+ does not suggest good things about Tumblr’s intent with this “feature”.
The truth is, Tumblr and Reddit are two of the major open generators of fair use and uncopyrighted original content on the  English-speaking internet.  Screencaps and reposts of content from Tumblr make a lot of ad revenue for third-party websites (wimp.com, didyouknowfacts.com, boredpanda etc) and other social media platforms.  And, although monetisation options already exist for Tumblr users, they’re also third party, with Tumblr seeing none of the revenue.  But Tumblr doesn’t produce any of that value-generating content itself.  It’s just the host platform for the creators who do.
This attempt to become “Diet Patreon” via Post+ suggests that the intent is less about “empowering your favourite fanauthors and fanartists” and far more about Tumblr wanting to get its fingers in the money pie.
Think about is this way. A Post+ making $3-5 dollars per view or at most a Netflix subscription per subscriber isn’t a lot of money for the post owners.  It’s pocket change, a small side-hustle at best.  And for individual users, the 10% cut taken by Tumblr (or 30% for App store subscribers) will likely be barely noticeable.
But from Tumblr’s side, multiply that 10% cut by a hundred, a few hundred, a thousand, a few thousand users… suddenly it’s not pocket change anymore.
“Find a million tiny sources of revenue and skim a miniscule amount off the top of each: it all adds up.” - Folding Ideas
Then consider the design of Post+ being proposed; the lack of support, the potential for abuse and harassment, the changes Tumblr has already made in its Terms of Service to shift the burden of legal risk onto Post+ users while encouraging them to monetise the kind of content that will incur that risk… the picture it paints is Not Good.
This is probably part of the same reason why the bot problem hasn’t gone away, and why the only time a solution was even attempted was when it got bad enough to effect the profitability of the App.  It doesn’t matter how annoying and uncomfortable it is for genuine users; so long as stakeholders and advertisers are unaware of how many engagement metrics and ad impressions are coming from bots programmatically trawling the site for Search Engine Optimisation, the sale value of the platform and ad spaces will remain higher than its actual value.  It’s all about the money.
And when you consider all the options Tumblr could have taken to fix or add features, crack down on bots and harassment, improve moderation and otherwise increase the genuine value and reputation of its content and userbase.  Well…
The most generous interpretation of Post+ is that it’s a genuinely well-intentioned but horrifically ill-considered attempt to support creators; failing to understand the basic legality of fandom, how fan communities function or what its userbase wants.
And at worst, it’s rent-seeking.  It’s an attempt to lure in users that it can grift off as revenue-generators by dangling promises of getting paid.  To recoup value lost from the platform by its history of abominably poor management, poor moderation and slapdash band-aid solutions that have historically created or worsened far more problems than they fixed.
This change isn’t users paying Tumblr to become stronger stakeholders in how the site/app is run, or to benefit from a desired feature that makes the experience better. It’s Tumblr setting itself up to skim revenue from people paying other creators, while still treating both as products.
It’s a Bad Look.

it's not all about bikes
i'm very into sustainable transportation & i read a lot of articles on it (like, several-per-day a lot). the general consensus is that the future of transportation is the bike - ebikes in particular. and i don't disagree with this precisely (i'm all about bikes! i'm building a custom recumbent tricycle to experiment with sail propulsion! i think velomobiles are the greatest thing since sliced bread!). bikes are certainly the most efficient form of human-powered transportation, and especially with electric assist for steep hills, they are a powerful addition to a sustainable transportation infrastructure
however, i firmly believe that bikes are not the be-all and end-all of personal mobility, particularly if you live in a big city & use public transportation
i lived in chicago for six years and a bike was not the right fit for me there. don't get me wrong! a car is DEFINITELY not right for chicago (if you drive in chicago you're a fool), but bikes have some serious downsides when you're in a big city.
public transportation doesn't mesh well with mass bicycle use
if you bike to the bus, you'll put your bike on the fold-out rack on front. this works for two or three people, but if everyone on a crowded city bus has a bicycle, there's simply not room. you could chain your bike near the bus stop, but this leaves it vulnerable to theft (see below) and means you can't bike from the bus to your destination. not a great solution!
also, bikes can be heavy, ebikes more so, and many people are not strong enough to lift their bike onto the rack
if your city has a rail system like chicago, bikes may not be allowed on board at all, or may cost an additional fee
bicycles are vulnerable
bicycles are bulky and are difficult to store inside a small city apartment and impossible to store inside at most workplaces
when left outside, they are relatively easy to steal, even with multiple bike locks. this is partly an infrastructure problem - there are ways to store bicycles in special storage units, or they can be locked in garages where they are less accessible - but when i lived in chicago, my bike was stolen from a garage, so it's not a perfect solution
when left outside, they are also vulnerable to weather - i volunteer at a bike shops & refurbish a ton of donated bikes, and they get so rusty!
with their high price tags, ebikes are even more tempting targets to thieves.
bicycles can be overkill
if you live a ten-minute walk from the train station, as i did, a bicycle isn't necessary. the time spent unlocking and wheeling out your bike then locking it securely at the station means that you don't save that much time
bike chains and brakes easily tangle up long skirts or loose pants, and bike seats are uncomfortable and chafe
additionally, bikes move so much faster than pedestrians (on a flat, 4-5x as fast, 12-15 mph as opposed to 3 mph) that it's often unsafe to bike in pedestrian-heavy areas, and unsafe to walk in bike-heavy areas. this forces cyclists to use roads (unsafe due to car traffic) or special bike paths (requires an additional infrastructure investment) rather than sidewalks
i propose that the better option for personal transportation to mesh with existing mass transit with minimal infrastructure changes is the simple kick scooter, popularized by the company Razor.
scooters are light and small enough to fold, carry onto a bus or train, and put under your seat, even during rush hour
they are light and small enough to carry into your studio apartment or workplace and leave by the door or in the break room without tracking mud in or blocking the area, making them much less vulnerable to theft and the ravages of the weather
they are much cheaper than bikes. my heavy-duty Razor scooter with a capacity of 200 lbs cost $80 new, as opposed to $200+ for a low-end bike, or $1000+ for an ebike. there exist even heavier-duty kick scooters with suspension, pneumatic tires, and lever brakes for ~$125. this low price point makes them more accessible to lower-income users and less attractive to thieves.
their lower speeds and better maneuverability make them better suited for pedestrian areas. the average pedestrian walking speed is 3 mph. on a scooter, minimal effort on a flat will take you 5-6 mph. kicking all-out will take you 9-10 mph - still an impressive improvement over walking!
there are no parts that can entangle loose and flowing clothing. it's not necessary to dress for scooting the way it can be for cycling.
there are, of course, notable downsides to scooters as compared to bicycles
they don't go nearly as fast or as efficiently. for most short-distance city use, this is fine, but if you plan on commuting exclusively with human power & eschewing public transportation, a bike is definitely a better choice
the "kick" is not as ergonomic as pedaling. with practice, it's not difficult to switch feet while in motion, but you do get worn out quicker.
there's no way to use a scooter for cargo carrying. there are cargo bikes that are very well suited to carrying groceries or passengers, and even a normal bike can have panniers for moderately sized cargo, but scooters cannot have cargo racks, and adding a front basket makes them bulkier and more difficult to fold and carry. hanging grocery bags from the handlebars is possible if moving at low speeds but difficult and not ergonomic or suitable for delicate contents
they are only suited for smooth surfaces and flat/downhill use. in st louis, many sidewalks are concrete with a fairly large pebbly aggregate. with hard rubber tires like most scooters, this is a difficult and uncomfortably vibrate-y surface. even asphalt is not great. concrete is the best. pneumatic tires may mitigate this somewhat. when going uphill, you're generally better off walking.
even on a smooth surface, the vibration is much more noticeable than on a bike. due to the smaller wheels and hard rubber tires, shocks are transmitted directly to your body. if you have hand or wrist issues, this is a serious problem.
due to scooter construction, it's not possible to have any "caster" angle. this means the front wheel will not self-center under most conditions, making it impossible to ride with no hands and very very difficult to ride even one-handed. this is inconvenient but in my experience generally not a huge deal
it's very easy to "pitchpole" (capsize forwards over the handlebars) if you hit even a small obstruction such as a stick, a pebble or piece of gravel, or a mid-sized crack in the sidewalk. with practice, it's not difficult to "jump" your front wheel over cracks by yanking upwards sharply at the right time, but this does take practice and it's still relatively easy to crash, especially when traveling at higher speeds. a helmet is recommended and elbow- or wrist-guards can be helpful
scooting in the snow is very very difficult
despite these warnings, i'm convinced that a simple kick scooter is generally very well-suited to use in large cities, especially when paired with heavy public transit use, and can meet the needs of many people for whom a bicycle may not be a perfect fit.
(NB: bicycle use & transportation generally speaking with regards to disability is also an important issue but is beyond the scope of this post & my personal experiences as an able-bodied person)

NGK public chain storage technology creates a new implementation pattern of public chain application
NGK public chain storage technology creates a new implementation pattern of public chain application
NGK is the abbreviation of Autonomous Super Public Chain, and also the abbreviation of public chain governance token. Nodes or miners holding NGK can participate in community autonomy voting at all levels of the NGK network, and use collective wisdom to promote the continuous development of the community and public chain.
Decentralized storage becomes the key to breaking through the public chain
In addition to solving the funding problem, there are roughly two ways for the public chain to break. First, open finance such as DeFi can solve many trust problems that cannot be solved in the traditional financial industry. The other and most critical way to break the game is decentralized storage. It is very suitable for public chains and has a wide audience, which is prone to phenomenon-level applications. Among them, NGK is one of the representative projects.
Traditional storage methods
With the development of the times, the data continues to increase. Traditional data storage methods can no longer meet the needs of individuals or major organizations or even enterprises. The data will increase with development. In the past, you could only buy a database server with larger storage space and copy the original data. But this is only a temporary remedy, and it is unable to fulfill future development.
DDS decentralized storage of NGK
The NGK chain supports data storage which specialized in data opening. It is using efficient data compression algorithms to write and extract data at extremely fast speeds, and supports data encryption. The storage content can be hidden while ensuring speed and protect information security.
Distributed storage of large-capacity data outside the NGK chain is scattered across the entire network by super nodes and user nodes through slicing distributed storage. According to the node network and resource usage, the data distribution outside the chain is dynamically allocated.
Distributed storage has very high-performance requirements. The current mainstream public chains are like Ethereum or Bitcoin, and the efficiency can no longer meet the demand. NGK approaches to use the higher-performance DPOSS consensus algorithm and support Windows files to store contracts. The compatibility and expansion of smart contracts can carry information such as assets and data more efficiently.
NGK draws on the idea of the Lightning Network to implement a lightning-like network storage protocol. The changes to the files and records in the storage contract are performed off-chain. The aggregated data is submitted to the chain before the contract is about to terminate, which means that even if there is a massive amount of data in the network need to be stored, it can be completed quickly, which greatly improves the performance and throughput efficiency of the storage network.
Privacy and security, the foundation of NGK public chain
For centralized storage, privacy has a fatal weakness, which can be easily stolen or made public. Using blockchain technology to solve privacy and security issues has almost become the consensus of the industry. In terms of design concept, NGK will fragment the data uploaded by the user, divide it into data blocks and encrypt them with the user's private key and store them on different nodes, ensuring the privacy of the data. Even in the worst case, if the data fragment is taken by an attacker or even data is restored, the relevant file content cannot be read. Only the user who has the private key has the sole ownership of the data. In this way, the problem of information leakage and theft can be eliminated, and the security of the data and the protection of the value of the data can be ensured origin.
In the face of the severe global epidemic environment, NGK has not studied mitigation technology. On this basis, it actively seeks partners and strives to open up ground in the global market, thereby further supporting technical research and product implementation.

Reading your original works, I'm kind of inspired to post my own on Ao3 as well (I can't publish as I write mostly queer pairings but I live in a place where doing so would put my safety at risk). But I was wondering Pia, is it safe to do so in terms of plagiarizers? Since anyone could access my work for free, would they be able to copy it? (Thanks if you reply!)
The thing with copyright is that if you publish it - it’s yours. If you can establish provenance (i.e. prove that you have drafts on your computer and so on) it’s yours. Copyright protection for original works (artwork, writing and so on) doesn’t require you to do anything special to be eligible for copyright protection, basically.
And AO3 is amazing at chasing up copyright issues.
Also, like, people scaremonger. The chances of original works being plagiarised are exceedingly low. In um...oh god, like 15 years of writing fanfiction, I’ve had my works stolen exactly twice. Once was for a phishing database so I didn’t give a shit (it got shut down anyway - people remember that whole thing right?). And once was someone who basically rewrote all of SALverse in their own words, complete with including Augus and so on - but they accidentally left whole sections in that were mine; whoops. I chased it up on AO3 and it was removed, although the plagiarised version is still on fanfiction.net (honestly that place is trash for site support, don’t use it). That being said, I don’t really care, because it’s not like it’s taking readers away from me (it’s not, it’s pretty badly written).
But that’s like two times out of an aggregate of hundreds of thousands of hits over many many many years.
(Art is a different matter. I’ve had my art stolen a lot and I’m pretty zen about it. I have my template Cease and Desist letter, DeviantArt helps you out eventually, and Etsy is respectful when you chase up that shit.)
To be honest, the biggest risk with posting original work on AO3 is not actually about theft at all, but these matters (rest under a readmore in case you don’t care about the rest lol):
* AO3 explicitly states it’s not a database for original fiction. Which means support and tag wrangling and so on for original fiction vs. fanfiction is low. You can’t for example ‘categorise’ your original fiction into subgenre or anything like that.
* AO3 audiences are generally highly resistant to original fiction (i.e. most have never looked for it on AO3 and nor do they want to read it on AO3). They may read original fiction on Wattpad (and indeed this seems to be the place to put it, I think), but unless you’re releasing chapter-by-chapter or already have like...a fanfiction readerbase who will follow you to original work; it will be very hard to find readers. This is primarily because readers search first and foremost by fandom and not by tag. Original fiction gets drowned as a result.
* If you ever wish to make a profit off your original work that you put on AO3, you cannot link to any profit-making sites on AO3, nor can you ‘hold back’ sections of story and make people pay for it (this isn’t a problem for me (but this is the reason I never say I have a Patreon on AO3), or indeed a lot of people on AO3, but I’ve seen people use original fiction on AO3 for this matter getting swiftly and quickly warned and then sometimes banned from the site - this is so that AO3 can preserve their not-for-profit status, and it will never change as a result - I think it’s awesome and fully support this, and am tired of authors whining about it but that’s a whole other matter).
I would love to see more original work on AO3, and I don’t know your general fandom/fanfiction experience (i.e. if I knew you were a fanfiction writer I’d probably be wording things a little differently? Like, have you written queer fanfiction before? That helps a lot on AO3), but it’s definitely worth keeping in mind that AO3 is first and foremost a fanworks site, and that even if you’re putting up solely original content, it helps to orient to AO3 from a fandom / fanworks perspective (i.e. serialise longer works instead of releasing everything at once, list shorter works with fandom-friendly tags like PWP or hurt/comfort etc., establish a fandom-friendly presence elsewhere, like Tumblr or Twitter or Dreamwidth or something, so that people actually know you exist, because they won’t find you through the Original Works tag, let’s be real.)
As for plagiarism, honestly, people worry about it way more than necessary. To date, that I know of, no person has come to AO3 and stolen original fiction and tried to make a profit off it. (However, I have seen in the m/m original novel industry, people stealing actually published novels and republishing them under another name and making a profit off those, which is like, a consequence of so many novels flying under the radar due to self-publishing lol. And even then, it gets chased up, it gets dealt with.) Works can always be reported; and you know, they are. 9/10 I found out about art theft because someone who liked my art said ‘hey I saw this and am not sure you gave your permission for this’ or ‘this person is stealing your art.’ And that one time the SALverse was plagiarised, a reader told me. So that side of things helps a lot).
(I’m sorry to hear you can’t publish for safety reasons, as well. Make sure your protections online re: publishing are solid in that sense, because the same risks that exist for those who indie self-publish under pseudonyms, also exist for those who publish under the same on AO3, and obviously I don’t know what your situation is - and I think it’s awesome that you’re wanting to take the leap - just...yeah. I imagine this is all stuff you’ve considered already though, and AO3 is an often-overlooked site which makes it easier to fly under the radar on too. But so is Wattpad, and it’s a lot friendlier to original fiction - may be worth looking into as well? Good luck anon!

The Watermark Problem
Tumblr media
Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated.
I’m sure we’ve all seen the above comic by @nedroidcomics, and it illustrates an ongoing issue: people removing an artist’s signature and posting the artwork to their own blog, never mentioning where it originally came from (in effect, making it look like they were the ones who created it).
But has anyone really thought about why this happens?
Yesterday, I saw an artist on twitter grow frustrated because a fan requested a signature-less version of an image to use as a desktop wallpaper.
Tumblr media
I can sympathize, because if there’s one thing I personally hate, it’s wallpapers with text on them. Desktops are already covered in words, and wallpaper watermarks are an eyesore. I’ll crusade all you want to maintain artists’ rights to their artwork, but this is a harmless request and if I’m being 100% honest, I’ve probably cropped out watermarks on images to use as desktops before.
But, again: why is this such a problem? The answer is staring you right in the face.
It clicked when, again, I was on Twitter this morning. Somebody had retweeted a video of a cute animal on to my timeline and while I enjoyed the video, what I enjoyed a lot less was the multiple nested watermarks.
Tumblr media
Even from that image right there, you can already see one -- it says “ViralHog” in the top left. Once you hit play on the video, you’re greeted a second watermark, this time animated, in the top right.
We are the generation that hates advertising. We grew up with pop-up advertisements on websites, so we invented Adblock. We invented TiVo, whose original goal was to detect and remove commercial breaks. Articles have been written about how impossible it is to advertise to people these days because everybody, everywhere is trying to avoid being advertised to.
Meanwhile, we have aggregator sites. 9gag, iFunny -- I don’t know about you, but when I see a watermark from one of those sites, I don’t care what the image itself actually contains, I flat out ignore it. I give no votes, no favs, no retweets or reblogs to anything with those watermarks. And this started all the way back in the dawn of the 2000′s with Ebaumsworld, who drew enough ire that an entire song was written about how they were profiting from other people’s artwork. (If you search Youtube for Ebaumsworld, that song is now the top result)
This is starting to sound familiar, isn’t it?
Some of the very same people involved with the Ebaumsworld song now join the ranks campaigning to protect an artist’s watermark, when they’re part of the very same movement that has helped demonized all watermarks, even if they are an artist’s signature.
I think that, deep down, everybody wants to support artists who make cool stuff. But we’ve also created a landscape for ourselves where:
Sharing content is faster and easier than ever (reblogging and retweeting is the ultimate form of this)
Advertising in all forms, even honest and necessary ones, is despised
It takes seconds to remove advertising from something you otherwise are trying to enjoy
People don’t (or rarely) remove signatures and watermarks as a means of stealing an artist’s work, they remove signatures and watermarks as a means of scrubbing the advertising off so that others may enjoy a purified version. They think they are performing a service for others, and it’s a service that is a mutated version of something those very same artists were asking for twelve years ago.
It would be easy to stomp our feet and say, “You MUST protect an artist’s signature” and I don’t even necessarily disagree with that -- but we’ve also made our beds and must now lay in them. Getting louder and more obnoxious about this kind of “theft” isn’t going to solve anything anymore than adding more copy protection to movies and video games did. You are now in an arms race against annoyance, and the bigger your tantrum, the more you fuel the other side to subvert your cause.
The real villain in all of this always has been and always will be aggregator sites like 9gag, iFunny, Cheezburger, or really, any website that doesn’t generate original content and primarily exists to put their watermarks over somebody else’s work. For real, if Ebaumsworld hadn’t achieved such a massive success on the backs of thousands of other people’s work, the landscape of the internet as it is today would be very different.
If you find artwork without a signature: Drag the image in to images.google.com and find who created it. Try not to share artwork with others without also at least linking back to the artist in some way. Don’t let yourself be lazy about this.
If you’re an artist who thinks their artwork is being “stolen”: It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but this is the internet right now, and the louder you are, the more spite you generate against you. Unless it’s legitimate theft (like they’re selling your artwork), a friendly reminder is probably enough to make the person in question realize they’ve done something wrong.

Trafficking In Bad Law
Congress went and did it.
Today was a dark day for the Internet.
The U.S. Senate just voted 97-2 to pass the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA, H.R. 1865), a bill that silences online speech by forcing Internet platforms to censor their users. As lobbyists and members of Congress applaud themselves for enacting a law tackling the problem of trafficking, let’s be clear: Congress just made trafficking victims less safe, not more.
Sex trafficking sounds like a terrible thing, and it is, provided trafficking had a meaningful legal definition. It doesn’t. It’s a scary word that conjures up images of swarthy evil men driving trucks with young slave virgins to smoky rooms with purple velvet chaises. If that was what we were talking about, maybe a law could be fashioned to stop it and we would all applaud. But it’s not.
Advocates and Congress know two things. The first is that writing narrow, constitutional laws is hard, and often impossible, even when there’s an issue that evokes a public response of “something must be done.” So they punt on the law and cover up their slacker ways with a vague word like trafficking. We’re suckers for vague scary words that don’t actually have any meaning.
Second, if they can create sufficient panic that a small problem, or non-problem, is not just real, but huge, they can get away with anything. This is the tyranny of the anecdote at work, a horrifying story about some young woman stolen on her way home from church and sold into sex slavery. What decent human being wouldn’t be outraged by this? Who would stand in the way of something being done to save the next young woman? That’s the power of an appeal to emotion to a nation of deeply empathetic, if shallow, citizens.
But even if this is a sufficiently real problem to warrant attention beyond the anecdote, and even if the problem needed new law rather than better enforcement of existing law, and even if new law actually helped to fix the problem, the moral panic and vague words upon which Congress relies in fashioning its law carries other baggage along with it.
FOSTA/SESTA is unconstitutional. But before you take comfort in assuming the Supreme Court will toss this mutt of a law out the window, it will be years before anything of the sort happens, and there will be impacts, primary and secondary, that can’t be undone in the meantime. Like what?
It’s not like people didn’t warn about this. But, following Congress passing SESTA (likely to be signed soon by the President), a bunch of sites are already starting to make changes. Craigslist is probably the most notable, announcing that it was completely shutting down its Personals Section.
It was Craigslist, then Backpage, that got the prudent Kamala Harris’ carceral impulses pumping. There were ads for prostitution in there, and Harris couldn’t stand this crime happening right before her eyes. The rest is history.
Much as law enforcement was incapable of dealing with offenses directly, the easier answer was to shut down sites where their wares were offered for sale. Except the sites were immune under the safe harbor of Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act, which protected sites from liability and culpability for what was said and done by others and hosted by them. Today, we call this the internet.
SESTA/FOSTA undermines Section 230, the most important law protecting free speech online. Section 230 protects online platforms from liability for some types of speech by their users. Without Section 230, the Internet would look very different. It’s likely that many of today’s online platforms would never have formed or received the investment they needed to grow and scale—the risk of litigation would have simply been too high. Similarly, in absence of Section 230 protections, noncommercial platforms like Wikipedia and the Internet Archive likely wouldn’t have been founded given the high level of legal risk involved with hosting third-party content.
The primary goal of the new law was to silence sites like CraigsList and Backpage, but the secondary effect was to flow through all platforms that were either peripherally connected to any site involved or somehow aggregated content that was peripherally related.
Importantly, Section 230 does not shield platforms from liability under federal criminal law. Section 230 also doesn’t shield platforms across-the-board from liability under civil law: courts have allowed civil claims against online platforms when a platform directly contributed to unlawful speech. Section 230 strikes a careful balance between enabling the pursuit of justice and promoting free speech and innovation online: platforms can be held responsible for their own actions, and can still host user-generated content without fear of broad legal liability.
If a website was engaged in illegal conduct, Section 230 didn’t protect it. It merely protected the host for the illegal conduct of others who might use the site. This new, retroactive law, removes Section 230 for sites that “promote or facilitate prostitution.” SJ hosts a Cross of the brilliant and beautiful sex worker advocate Maggie McNeill. Is that now a crime? Probably not, but it could be. Do I want to spend the next few years fighting prosecution over it?
Then there’s the tertiary effect. Now that the wall of Section 230 has been breached, what other moral scolds will demand that their cause too compels removal from Safe Harbor protection? Drugs? Hate speech? Guns?
For now, comments are open at SJ. Do you think, however, that I’m willing to go to prison so Billy Bob can enjoy his catharsis between bottles of Colt 45?
There are many who believe the internet has gotten out of hand, who believe there is some way to control the internet so that their “nice” people can utter heartwarming phrases and validate the feelings of those who share their sorrows. These are the people who won’t, who can’t, see why any of this could present a problem. After all, why should all the people who say and think things with which you disagree get to ruin it for you? And isnt sex trafficking horrible, so even if this saves only one young woman, isn’t that reason enough to destroy the internet as we know it?

These respected dailies did not even attribute the letter to PremiumTimes but however PremiumTimes was mature about it and only publicly embarrassed them for not crediting them with the story. In the attack against the LIB, I see hate, envy, jealousy and desperation. I am not her greatest fan, but I contact it as I see it. Her accuser claims to run "15 Previous 8" media.
He was unknown till this episode that has provided him a taste of "fame." His media is clearly the owner of "9jalife.com" yet another unknown web page as can be observed on each web-sites. These images we pull off of sites, that have been pulled off of other internet sites so quite a few times we do not know who actually owns them and under no circumstances bothered to come across out. You see, I would appreciate if a person of character brings a difficult functioning Nigerian down who clearly earned her respect and position but when a desperado throws the tire to mob lynch a commoner, I am irritated. Be a man, throw tires on Goodluck, on Diezani. The crooks who have stolen our whole human rights and our billions (USD) for our survival.
These are the Nigerians who the tires on Aluu4 since they created some errors, then walked to get a bag of rice and voted-in indicted criminal Fayose. Mr. Aye Dee whose real name is Mukhtar Dan’Iyan according to his PremiumTimes interview is also associated with a certain Emmanuel Efremov has been confirmed the registerer of the domain name, "LindaIkeji.net." I checked the whois to confirm this. This is cybersquatting and a crime. I have a job for Mr. Aye Dee and Mr. Emmanuel Efremov. If you are not already functioning for the Presidency… I bet Goodluck Jonathan would be delighted to employ them. They entirely match the Reuben Abati Reno Omokri Doyin Okupe profile of shameless, crooked and lying do-anything-to-make-it hounds.
Right now bloggers such as Bella Naija, Linda Ikeji, and news aggregators like Nairaland command bigger readership than standard print newspapers. Linda Ikeji alone has much more persons reading her weblog than any Nigerian newspaper. Nairaland, founded in 2003 by 20-year old Seun Osewa, claims about 1.6 million subscribers, has quite a few occasions additional readers than the combined number of readers of all Nigerian papers put with each other. Nairaland creates no content of its personal. Ultimately I have learnt that accomplishment is a lot more effortlessly attainable than Greatness. You may perhaps be a prosperous businessman, politician, or specialist but not a excellent. Greatness is not for everybody.
But I assume I learnt the secret of greatness, you will only be terrific if you devote your life, and your efforts, to serving other individuals. The path to greatness is self-sacrifice for the good of other people. Let me end by telling the last lesson I have learnt. It is that courage and determination is the answer to the tyranny of history. A history of private failure can cripple your hope, limit your scope and frighten us into a small vision.. Our family history, the misery and deprivations of our beginnings, the shame and disgrace of the previous, from time to time the spectacular failures of the past are the tyrannical weapons of history. Whipping us in line when we are pondering large, cutting us down to size as our self-esteem rises. Our past, yelling unworthy! But history, we ought to keep in mind, is not only a record of the past, it is the previous, it is gone. Our future is not determined by history or the previous unless we allow it. Your history is not your destiny. You have a opportunity to make your destiny.
Google has restored my blog. About 24 hours right after it was deleted. I hear it is a record. Ordinarily it takes weeks or even months for Google to restore a deleted blog. But we are specific here! The persons who took it down knew what to do. You get a number of strikes on blogger and just after that it is automatically deleted. It is automated, programmed to work that way. Thanks LIBers, you guys rock! Make certain you read the subsequent post coming…! The blogger had in her response alleged that her blog was hacked down by google due at the instance of enemies and hackers and not out of allegations that she has been plagiarizing.
Goodle in response denied that hackers were the difficulties that triggered the shutdown of lindaikeji.blogspot.com. The Punch newspaper had established this via a response it obtained from the Google’s Manager for Communications and Public Affairs, Anglo-Phone West Africa, Taiwo Kolade-Ogunlade. Copyright is a massive deal and this is why you cannot just go and pick up an additional person’s intellectual home or content material and lay claim to its ownership. I don’t know if Linda picked up any content and I do not know what content material is the bone of contention-neither have I looked into the complaints personally. Let’s respect other people’s rights and intellectual home. Making income off other people’s content material devoid of permission is incorrect. While the Internet is inanimate, it is the content material on it that provides it life. These are the concerns.
Ever since Linda Ikeji purchased the 2014 Variety Rover Sports Supercharged for N24,000,000 a few weeks ago, a lot of noise has been created about how this young lady seriously makes her income. And it did not take lengthy ahead of persons began comparing Linda Ikeji's weblog with Nairaland, and debating on which web site tends to make a lot more money. Some men and women that are ignorant of how revenue is created on-line have it at the back of their mind that Linda has to be doing a thing else to devote the way she has been spending. I'm going to attempt and make this as simple to digest as doable. Nairaland has far additional visitors/page-views than Linda Ikeji weblog, but most of the people that come on Nairaland drop quite childish comments, even on pretty severe threads.
This may well be a lot of exciting for the regulars on Nairaland, but really serious advertisers would go with one more selection mainly because of the singular factor. Go on Linda Ikeji right now, and the entire landing page is packed with Advertisements. She has Google Adsense advertisements on her weblog, as properly as advertisements from direct advertisers. The entire left and ideal sides of the weblog is filled with square and rectangular box Advertisements these are Ads from direct advertisers. And according to her 2012 interview with Toolz (on The Juice), she said it price N300,000 to have those advertisements up on her weblog for a month (30 days). Do the math yourself, I don't want to scare you. Also, for the duration of the similar interview with Toolz back in 2012, she stated the Ad in the background of her blog price the advertisers N1,000,000 for a month.
At the time of my writing this post (30th day of September, 2014,) there is an OMO Ad with red background on her blog. This isn't even all. Each day, Linda puts up posts advertising a particular new artists, or solution, and she gets paid N50,000 for these sort of promo. I have watched her the final couple of days, and she puts up at least 4 of these every day. That is N200,000 effortless, day-to-day. This alone should really let individuals have an understanding of the earning power of the brand this lady has produced. I will leave you to decide no matter whether or not Linda Ikeji's blog makes far more cash than Nairaland or not. You never even need to have to study this write-up to the end to know the answer to that.
You may ask how these impacts the earning energy of a web page. Let me clarify this. Nairaland is filled with hugely intelligent folks (even though they like to act childish most instances), and most of them know a lot of how the Net functions, and with time they turn into "blind" to Advertisements. Generating dollars with a site is all about website traffic, but that targeted traffic also has to covert very. The larger the CTR (Click Via Rate), the improved for each the publisher (owner of the web page), and the site owner. Let me give you a individual example. I have a certain book I sell that a lot of males want. I sell this book on-line as an eBook and promote it by means of Google and Facebook.
From time to time I could not have dollars on my credit card to spend for Advertisements, so I would leave comments on Nairaland with the hyperlink to the sales web page of the book. I did this for about six freaking weeks earlier this year, in a sub-section on Nairaland exactly where the facts I was selling is genuinely needed, and I didn't make A single sale. In August, I decided to attempt Linda Ikej's comment section. The extremely 1st week I began it, I sold two copies of the book. I have sold 7 copies so far of the book, and the book goes for N5,000. I Like YOU. LOL! Linda Ikeji is a former model, and had a couple of friends in the entertainment globe just before she even went into Blogging.
This helped her on her come-up, and it is still assisting her. Her face is known in the society she is extra of a celebrity blogger now than something. On the other hand, the pretty recluse introvert, Mr. Seun Osewa is, most occasions, sitting at the back of his method in his dwelling on the outskirts of Lagos, monitoring his web-site. Beneath is his image. I am sure 7 out of 10 people today reading this (not talking of the regulars on Nairaland) are seeing his face for the initially time. Feel about it, what kind of stories do majority of individuals in any community prefer to hear or read about? What they Want to know, or what they WANT to know? Serious info, or GOSSIP? Individuals want to know about the most current car or truck in Kcee's garage or no matter if or not Tiwa Savage is truly separated from her 'manager-turned-husband' or who who Flavor is at present dating.
The history of blogging sounds like any other ’History of’ - not incredibly thrilling. But blogs, an on line platform exactly where people share details and opinions, provide some of the most thrilling reads right now. Hundreds of millions of blogs about politics, business and entertainment exist on the World Wide Web, how do you select which ones to read? For many African readers, looking for the newest ‘gist’, gossip and celebrity news, it is an simple option. The Linda Ikeji blog is now a household name and undeniably one of the most profitable, exciting and normally controversial, blogs in Africa. The blogger behind the medium, Linda Ikeji, is herself a fascinating lady.

Online identity: is authenticity or anonymity more important? (2012)
Before Facebook and Google became the megaliths of the web, the most famous online adage was, "on the internet, no one knows you're a dog". It seems the days when people were allowed to be dogs is coming to a close. The old web, a place where identity could remain separate from real life, is rapidly disappearing from the computer screen. According to Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer, and Richard Allan, its director of policy in Europe, a critical mass of people only want online interactions supported by "authentic" identity. And this, say critics, will have irrevocable effects on the openness of the web.
The pursuit of authenticity is creeping into the heart of most social media models and in the current internet landscape is playing an important role in how we engage with one another and with web content. For many people, Facebook and Google products are the sum total of their web interaction, and the value in creating a platform that provides confidence that a person is who they say they are, rather someone pretending to be them, is critical to a social network's success.
Within this model, authentic identity is non-anonymous. Facebook profiles and Google IDs are tied to a person's real name and real connections, and increasingly to their activities across cyberspace. Users are familiar with logging into other services using Facebook or Google IDs, forming a single public identity that's an aggregated version of their offline past, the online present and their combined future.
Facebook also believes authenticity is linked to a person's photo stream, which is why it has just paid $1bn for the photo-sharing service Instagram. "Pictures speak a thousand words," says Allan. "Immigration officials will ask to see a photo album to see if a relationship is genuine. It's a very instinctive and powerful way to confirm authentic identity."
Not everyone agrees. "I would not call what you have on Facebook 'authentic' identity," says Christopher Poole, the 24-year-old creator of 4Chan, an online community founded in 2004. 4Chan boasts two design features antithetical to Facebook: first, its 20 million users don't register an account to participate and are therefore anonymous; second, there's no archive.
Poole, who was voted Time's most influential person of 2008 – two years before Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg was declared the magazine's Man of the Year – believes Facebook's commercial motivations shut down the online experience: "Mark and Sheryl have gone out and said that identity is authenticity, that you are online who you are offline, and to have multiple identities is lacking in integrity. I think that's nuts."
"We went from a web that was interest-driven, and then we transitioned into a web where the connections were in-person, real-life friendship relationships," adds Poole. "Individuals are multifaceted. Identity is prismatic, and communities like 4Chan exist as a holdover from the interest-driven web."
Allan (Facebook) believes such attitudes are naive. The millions who have gone online over the past decade want a safe place where they won't experience bad behaviour, have their identities stolen or be duped by impostors, he says: "Pretend identities don't work very well now that the web has moved from a minority sport for geeks to a mainstream occupation."
“Any profile on Facebook or Google that is not tied to an offline name is removed.”
And this attitude is baked into the main players' systems: any profile on Facebook or Google that does not appear to be tied to an offline name is removed. Nicknames and pseudonyms, regardless of their longevity – and some have been in use for decades – are considered breaches of terms of service. What people do online now, and will be doing in the foreseeable future, is inherently tied to their offline selves. And this locks down what it is considered acceptable to do and who it is acceptable to meet.
Yet a social network's success need not rely upon this direct link between online and offline identity. In Japan, the three most popular social networks operate under pseudonyms at the discretion of the account holder. "[Japanese social networks are] anonymous, but we can trace past mentions by login ID or nickname," explains Yasutaka Yuno, editor-in-chief of Japan's most popular mobile technology site, K-tai Watch. "The past mentions are useful to judge credibility. In each social community, ID acts as personal name."
“When users are aware that their activities online are traceable, identity play continues.”
An online identity can be as permanent as an offline one: pseudonymous users often identify themselves in different social networks using the same account name. But because their handles aren't based on real names, they can deliberately delineate their identity accordingly, and reassert anonymity if they wish. Psychologists argue that this is valuable for the development of a sense of who one is, who one can be, and how one fits into different contexts. This kind of activity is allowed even in countries where social network account holders are required to register for a service using a national ID, as in South Korea and China; their online public identities are still fabrications. Even with this explicit link with the state, when users are aware that their activities online are traceable, identity play continues.
Andrew Lewman, executive director of the Tor Project, hopes to re-anonymise the web. "The ability to be anonymous is increasingly important because it gives people control, it lets them be creative, it lets them figure out their identity and explore what they want to do, or to research topics that aren't necessarily 'them' and may not want tied to their real name for perpetuity," he says.
The Tor browser and software obfuscates a user's web traffic so anyone watching is unable to trace who a user is or where they are coming from, by bouncing an individual's communications through at least three different places. People can still be identifiable on a service like Facebook or Google if they choose to log in, but Tor prevents these sites knowing what users were doing before, and where they go after they log out.
This is a technological solution to what Lewman feels is an elemental problem with the de-anonymisation of the web. "The ability to forget, to start over is important," he argues. "Maybe you just got divorced, maybe you just came out of rehab and you want to start over.
"As soon as you log into a Gmail account, you start getting ads for the drug rehab you want to forget. If you're in a real-name environment, such as Facebook, unless you actually physically change your name and your friends, you're thrown right back into your old life."
Although Facebook does allow users to curate what's public and private – "recasting your public persona by selecting from the data you've put onto the service," explains Allan – Lewman believes the automated systems make a total social reinvention difficult to pull off.
"If you truly wanted to be anonymous, you'd have to use a combination of 4Chan and Tor," explains Poole. Tor provides the back-end anonymity that complements 4Chan's front-end anonymity. But this is technologically advanced: it is the major players setting the identity agenda. And so the ideological battle over online identity continues.
"Facebook is setting the expectations of what we want," says Poole. "They set the bar in terms of what kind of control their users have over their identity online. They've been moving that bar slowly but surely in a direction that they might call transparency, but what other people might call lack of choice."
Allan believes the benefits of authentic identity outweigh the costs. Facebook and other services with an assurance of security and credibility are more inclusive, and open up the web to new audiences who never would have gone online before, he says. "We're optimists. Facebook enables hundreds of millions of people to express themselves online because they didn't have or know how to use the tools they needed." Facebook, he believes, is a stepping stone to the rest of the web.
And if they are successful at promoting their particular brand of authentic identity, if you want to be a dog on the internet in the future, you'll have to have papers to prove it.

2018 Acura NSX Review, Change And Price
2018 Acura NSX Review, Change And Price – An all-new, cutting-edge design, the second time of Acura’s notable supercar is a real planet-class performance equipment that deftly merges an abundance of innovative development with a significantly furthermore captivating and thrilling personality. Coming back to the selection following ten yrs continued nonappearance, the 2018 Acura NSX large 2-seater wraps its air improved gentle-alloy/SMC bodywork around a multi-fabric lightweight aluminum/carbon dioxide fiber content internal composition that fills in as a super-reliable and extra-unbending business because of its car owner-selectable adaptive revocation structure.
2018 Acura NSX Future
The 2018 Acura NSX is equipped with the ideal nutritional supplement of safety bags (keeping track of side-guaranteeing safety bags and a driver knee airbag), along with a rearview camera and top-and-rear quitting sensors. The AcuraLink framework is furthermore standard and includes automated effect alert, urgent help, and stolen vehicle finding. Too many degrees amazingly for an Acura, propelled security features like blind aspect observing, adaptive cruise control and accident comfort with automatic braking are inaccessible. While focused on promoting high-strength excitement, the 2018 Acura NSX brags characteristics which make it evenly appealing as a daily car owner. Irrespective of 4-way manual seats fitted in lighting of a reputable problem for sparing weight, ease and comfort/holiday accommodation details incorporate twice area environment control, route, a 290-watt/8-presenter Premium Music platform that backings Android mobile phone Auto and Apple CarPlay software.
2018 Acura NSX Exterior And Interior
Even though at the beginning penned in Japan, aesthetic and beneficial specifying of the design well prepared 2018 Acura NSX would be to a ridiculous degree undertaken the proper care of by Acura Design Studio room in Los Angeles. The car’s intentional physical appearance is set up off by remarkably efficient total-LED illumination and grasps subjects bound to influence the appearance of possible items from the section. Based around an aggregate blowing wind modern supervision subject, the smooth, lightweight aluminum/SMC bodywork streamlines the NSX’s general air account and fast solidness although ensuring full practical use of. The lots of radiators and chilling tools expected to keep its Sports Hybrid powertrain factors and beverages at legit working temps beneath all driving a vehicle condition. Providing eminent sightlines, the Acura NSX’s very much done, a motorist-structured cabin is a welcoming website whether or not you’re cruising in the town or holding every little thing out at the path. Profoundly strengthened can chair cut in punctured Milano Cowhide and Alcantara gives an astounding mix of solace and assists without having to sense retaining and are compounded by further shock absorption on the front door boards and focus ease and comfort.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
A degree base multifunction steering wheel with shifter paddles ignores the NSX’s configurable TFT superior musical instrument bundle while the focal 7.0-inch substantial-res capacitive touchscreen display is placed more than the all-around located Dynamic Mode selector that controls the02018 NSX’s Integrated Dynamics System. The within cut is a merge of soft calfskin, dramatic swoops, and Acura elements-container switchgear. The transfer paddles sense and audio shabby, and have an extreme sum of travel when you draw upon them, as we would see it. The cabin is not exceptionally roomy. Potential makes up of a small glovebox, an adorable chubby among the seatbacks and two small scallops in the greatest position of the focal passing, aft of the force-get transmission selector. That is it. There are no front door pockets despite the broad armrests. On the in addition to part, the calfskin believes excellent and the driver footwell is plentifully sized. Cargo amount is restricted to a little rear trunk area (4., four cubic toes) that warms up on account of its field to the engine.
2018 Acura NSX Engine
The 2018 Acura NSX‘s hybrid powertrain starts off with a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. On your own, it generates 500 horsepower and 406 lb-ft . of torque. When you incorporate the NSX’s hybrid componentry, the NSX’s best generate ascends to 573 Hewlett Packard and 476 lb-feet of torque. These are high figures. Nonetheless, they’re entrusted with moving the car’s abundant 3,803-pound control body weight. The V6’s potential is continuous to the rear wheels by way of a 9-rate programmed manual transmission. Strikingly, the front side wheels are not pushed mechanically by the middle of-attached V6 engine in any way. Enough, every top tire is connected with its different particular electric powered engine. This dual-engine top pivot offers the 2018 Acura NSX all-time travel and, probably more altogether, remarkable opportunity in how and once all those high wheels are motivated. In a convert, for instance, the NSX can instantly include a capability to the outdoors front side tire when at the very same time abating in a wheel (by signifies of brake recuperation), which may increase how excitedly the car hands and wrists around in the direction of a part. On the contrary, the 2018 Acura NSX is capable of doing the inverse to assist change an oversteer condition. A 3rd electric powered engine is attached to the engine’s crankshaft to smooths out gear changes and provide a torque-satisfying capability at low revs when the turbos continue to can’t often entirely get around pace. Not to they’re snoozing lengthy, as the engine produces its greatest torque as lower as 2,000 rpm. Acura gauges that -60-miles per hour growing velocity is going to take only 3. seconds. Supposing real, that could put the NSX the neck and throat-and-neck with the Audi R8 including Porsche 911 Turbo. Efficiency, be because as it may, is the position the NSX holds influence. The EPA states should be expected 21 miles per gallon in signed up with traveling (21 area/22 interstates), which is superior to something various other rival game titles car. It’s crucial, whatever the case that it’s much less of active place than you could believe for a hybrid. The 911 Turbo, having its 20 mpg became a member of ranking, isn’t much back.
2018 Acura NSX Price And Release Date
The 2018 Acura NSX has a Manufacturer’s Proposed Retail Price (MSRP) starting just shy of $158,000, serenely below the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Audi R8 V10 that wide open in the $170K and $180K varieties. One by one, and the Lamborghini Huracán and Ferrari 488 GTB, the two on the most distant part of $200,000. Regardless, it is conceivable to push the sticker on a completely stacked NSX to about $207,000. Primarily by such as things such as the whole combo of outside/on the inside carbon dioxide-fibers bits ($24,500). Carbon dioxide-fired braking system ($9,900), trap color ($6,000) and the Mp3/Modern technology revise ($3,300).
