i read all 205 chapters of demon slayer last night in one 11 hour sitting. it was pretty good! surprise! the anime people have been raving about for the past several years is actually good quality. who would have thunk it. anyway i wanted to search up some reviews of the anime to see what other ppl thought of it but then i remembered the youtube anime community, with a few notable exceptions, is allergic to media literacy
#demon slayer#tanjiro is a very good protag and really embodies the themes of the story#very fresh too kind of like emma tpn#hes got a phat ass and wining personality like all other shounen protags but unlike most he isnt just talk#like he actually goes the extra mile to purposely be kind and it justifies why ppl like him so much a lot better i think#i was unfair in comparing it to bnha when i didnt even watch it#bc unlike bnha the author has a clear direction and kept things concise to drive home the poin#every character and plot point had a purpose#at least it does now since i havent had much time to actually pick at it yet#but anyway its got the standard shounen sexism but i think it was a LOT better than like. bnha or naruto#the girls are few and far between and arent as deep as the boys mostly#but i liked the love hashiras examination of womanhood in the taisho era#and the depiction of sex workers is surprisingly respectful#also the romance subplots arent forced (cough izuocha cough) like maybe you get the sense the characters have crushes?#but like! there are demons eating people! who tf cares! “im glad kanao isn't dead” yeah tanjiro me too youre such a romantic#but yeah the romance between the love and serpent hashira was pretty nice if lowkey#and otherwise i like how the ending just indicates that they may begin to like each other and the epilogue indicates they eventually did#how did it happen? idk! what the fanfics come up with would be better than what the manga would have squeezed in!#also i love how inosuke wanted a homoerotic sasunaru-bakudeku rivalry with tanjiro but tanjiro was too nice#and for the pervert/coward type character zenitsu was fairly likeable as well#i was worried nezuko was just going to be a glorified macguffin for tanjiro but she at least DID have agency sometimes#though i think they should have explored how she felt about the demon thing more and also show her casually with tanjiro#bc it feels like they only show her doing stuff when its a big angsty battle but i want her and tanjiro to annoy each other a bit!#shut up pandora

Please tell me something about the Tpn soundtrack you haven’t said yet
Anon you're giving me too much power.
I'm not sure I posted this here but this is one of the very first analyses I made lol!!! Considering this theme plays several times throughout the track, but with different little changes, I tried figuring out what each meant. And thus:
Isabella's Lullaby (linked above): Of course, the source. It's where everything starts, but it gets adapted and moulded depending on the mood and whatnot. Its constant presence in the soundtrack symbolises how much Isabella interferes with the children, both physically and mentally, and how she was always there one way or another, whether it be good or bad.
Main Theme 2: I won't get much in depth on Main Theme 1/2 cuz I already talked about it here, but regardless, there's the big change at 5:45, a semi tone above from Main Theme 1, symbolising they've taken a step up. No matter how small, it's still a step, and they're starting fresh from here, with a brand-new arpeggio from the one we had heard so far in Main Theme 1.
Pf Solo Version: Played when Norman asks Emma if she'll take the traitor with them, and when Isabella is offering to recommend her to become a mama. In both cases a traitor is involved (Ray and Emma, if she accepted to become a Mama), which is probably why the theme is played with so many gaps: by becoming a traitor they choose to leave behind all the friends and hope and whatnot they had built and live a pretty lonely life, as shown via Ray.
Jailbreak: The theme is played with significant pauses, showing how the children are pushing through and trying their very hardest to escape Isabella's grasp, and eventually they do. I've actually written about this one before, too, but it's always nice to keep everything in one place.
Emma's Determination: An ascending bass, but not like the Gb Ab F Bb (up down up) in Isabella's Lullaby. It never goes down, and instead just repeats the second note. Something like A B B C# (up same up), like Emma won't let herself be let down and will keep climbing as high as she can.
Mandolin Version: The mandolin doesn't get nearly as much spotlight as the voice in the "source" version. There are times it's completely hidden within the harmonies (see 1:30), which is like how no matter how important Leslie was to Isabella, he was also just another child who fell victim to the farm system and didn't really accomplish anything huge in life (unlike her).
Emma's Sorrow: Although the notes are shorter in length like in the main themes, the pace is significantly slower, and unlike Emma's Determination, in which her goal is to not fall down, this one feels more like she's letting herself drop. The bass is pretty much always descending and whenever it does ascend it's slow, almost hesitant, like the C D D# E at 2:15. There isn't much power on the pick up notes either, like she's dragging herself up, and the violins on the second part (an octave higher) sound like they're screaming; like she's calling out for help. The song ends with a quick change to the last note, while the other versions tend to linger for a bit on a higher note before dropping down. Bottom line this version is just depressing and I could probably write a whole separate post on it.
Ray's Retaliation: Bet you didn't see this coming huh. This piece just takes the theme and completely distorts it to a point where you can barely recognise it, like, come on, Ray really meant a retaliation in every possible way. He not only turned his deal with Isabella against her, but his "I'm turning our deal against you" theme is just the result of someone throwing her oh so cherished lullaby in a washing machine then shuffling it into a deck of cards and adding some Ray Spice. He clearly has no regard for the song, after all, it has no good value to him, so might as well tear it apart and make it into something beneficial, just like those rewards he got and, of course, their deal in general.
Bonus Corner :P Orchestra Version (s2): I've gone a bit into this (in the form of jokes but ok) and I guess it's just showing how the children took what Isabella gave them (knowledge, love, etc) and used it to live independently, the instruments are playing Isabella's Lullaby but they no longer need her there to sing the melody, they can do it themselves. And the best part is that when they do it no one gets stepped on; all the instruments have their own important part to play and take turns with the spotlight.
Their Own Thoughts (s1): Like Ray's Retaliation, this one also has the theme, although completely rearranged lol!! Considering it's written about Conny not wanting to leave the house, it could symbolise how she had an unfortunately twisted image of Isabella in which she was nothing but a kind mother, thus the melody isn't melancholic like the Isabella's Lullaby but rather very warm and welcoming.
Hope this is enough to satisfy you ahah, thank you so much for the ask!! Feel free to drop by my dms if you have any questions or just send another ask ig lol idk have a great day!!!

To Listen and To Understand [a TPN fanfic]
(NorEmmaWeek2019 day #1, prompt: Drama/Breakdown) -.-.- Rating: T Pair: NorEmma Wordcount: 1k+ Tag(s): Modern AU, Couple Fighting, Anxiety Issues, Fluff & Hurt/Comfort Summary: Norman and Emma had their first couple fight, and Norman's growing anxiety didn't help. A/N: Cross-posted on AO3 -.-.-
The neighborhood was peacefully quiet. The morning was still earl enough for a weekend. Yet, in one of the apartments in the building, it was already loud with a pair of engaged couple arguing.
“All I want is for you to contact me every once in a while! Just send text or something. Can you understand that I’m very worried about you?!”
“You’re the one who need to understand that I am too an adult! I’m not a kid that you should be worrying about every other hour!”
“I really care about you, Emma… That’s why—”
“NO! You always say that you’ll listen but you’re always being paranoid again!”
“You’re often coming home late, even almost morning! How am I supposed not to worry?! You the crime rate in big cities like here are—”
“I have FRIENDS, Norman!”
“And I KNOW! All I want is for you to—”
“NO! STOP! We’re only going back and forth again! I think we really need a break now.”
Norman sighed frustratedly. He racked his mind to find the right words. But before he could come up with anything, his fiancé already grabbed her jacket and strolled towards the door.
“Wha– Wait, Emma! Where are you going?!”
Emma paused and forced a deep breath before managing the words out through her gritted teeth. “Taking a fresh air, Norman.”
With just that simple explanation, the girl walked outside without sparing a glance back.
Norman sighed again. He knew that couple fighting each other is supposed to be a normal thing. Being a couple is like mixing up two different minds, personalities, and ideals, and somehow making it work in the process. Besides, people argue all the time, after all. But still, it doesn’t mean it wasn’t in the least tiring and frustrating to having fight with the person he loved the most.
‘It’s okay. Emma will come back before I realize it.’ Norman tried to calm himself.
Turned out, calming himself while having a fight with his lover was an almost impossible feat, as Norman bitterly found out. Just some hours after Emma gone, his mind already filled with the worst possibilities.
‘Is Emma okay out there? Did she bring her phone? Did she bring enough money? Oh no, her phone is being charged in the nightstand. She didn’t have a phone with her! What if she needs an emergency or something? Should I go out and search for her? But what if she becomes even more upset at me for coming after her? But she might really need her phone! I don’t even know where she is right now. Oh no! She could be having an accident and all injured up somewhere and she wouldn’t have her phone to contact anyone—’
Norman shook his head.
‘No. No. No negative thinking like that. Emma already said I’m always being too paranoid. But I just want her to be safe… I just want to be able to always look after her… But that’s what making her upset, isn’t it? Oh no. What if she got tired of me and really want to break up? But… But… She accepted my proposal. She said yes, back then. It…it…wasn’t my imagination, right? She really said ‘yes,’ right? But that doesn’t mean she couldn’t change her mind anytime. And…and she said about taking a break, right? Oh my God… I really made her upset, didn’t I? I made her so upset that she feels she needs a break from me… I-I’m…I’m making Emma so upset…’
Norman bit his lip. His hand on his coffee cup trembled. Somehow, the thought of upsetting Emma felt even more horrible than the possibility of her wanting to break up with him. He had hurt the girl he loved so much. He had failed her.
Norman still remembered the day he placed that engagement ring on Emma’s finger. The day he asked her to let him become the man who would bring her happiness. The day he expressed his gratefulness for her always being by his side, and sworn that he’ll always be the best for her if she chose him to spend the rest of her life with. He had sworn to her, yet here he was, failing her.
He had failed. He had failed. He had hurt Emma and making her so disappointed and Emma really didn’t deserve this. Emma deserved happiness and someone who could make her happy and maybe it really wasn’t him. Maybe he had been really too presumptuous and just assuming he deserved her. But Emma deserved the best. Emma deserved better than him. Emma should—
“…Norman?”
Came the sound of a door being creaked open. Emma walked inside their shared bedroom. Her eyes immediately flew open.
“N-norman!”
She hurriedly taking off her jacket before prying his fingers from the empty cup on his hand. …’Since when it was empty?’
Emma circled her arms around his shoulders and buried her face in his hair.
“E-emma…?”
“Shh…” Emma mumbled into his ear. Her face pressing on his temple. “It’s okay… I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Norman could feel her breath tickled his ear. It’s warm. Emma was so warm. Emma always so warm. He relished himself in that warmth and felt his muscles and breathing immediately relaxed. It’s weird. He didn’t even realize that his body was so tense.
“I-I’m sorry…” he muttered.
He brought his arm to return the embrace, wanting give her the same warmth too, wanting her to know how much he treasured her and always grateful for her and—
“I know,” Emma whispered.
He could hear her smile through that kind tone.
“I know,” Emma repeated. “I’m sorry too. For forgetting about your anxiety.”
“It’s not—”
Emma shook her head and pulled back slightly. Her smile was so kind—the same smile that he had fell in love with. Her fingers treading through his hair in placating gesture.
“We’re both got too worked up,” Emma said softly. “Everything’s okay. We both just got too worked up with everything and threw out our piled up frustration to each other. I came to realize it, after I took time to cool my head outside.”
“So…we’re okay?”
“We’re okay.” Emma smiled. “And we need to talk, we’ll talk about it again. But for now, let’s just relax, Norman. It’s weekend, right? We can lazying around until noon,” she giggled.
Norman felt a small smile tugging on his cheeks.
“Mmh…yeah,” he said, before tugging the girl in front of him onto his lap.
Emma laughed, tugging on his nape demandingly before locking their lips in a sweet kiss.
“I love you,” he rasped, with his eyes still closed, still savoring the softness of the pair of lips against his own. “I love you so much.”
“Mhm…” Emma hummed. She broke the kiss and nuzzled her head on the crook of his neck. “I love you too. Always.”
‘Everything’s okay. Everything’s okay for now.’ Norman chanted to himself.
He had the girl of his life in his arms. Everything’s okay and Emma was safe and everything’s okay for now. Everything would continue to be okay. He trusted Emma. He loved her, and he needed to trust her. And if Emma’s sure that they’d be okay, then he had to believe that everything would, somehow.
Norman realized, that he loved this girl too much to ever give up on her, anyway.
