A Shepard In My Garden
Hi, hello. So, this is what I've been working on for the better part of the month. A companion illustration for my fic, for which I have the first chapter up! And am working on the second one...
I wanted to create something with just a twinge of a sinister vibe, something loud and bright to mimic the way Vertumna is alive and constantly shifting and coiling and communicating with every tiny part of itself in a truly nauseating but at the same time addictive, even mesmerizing display. The same way the wormhole pulls Sol into the center of it all.
Here, Sol is our symbol for all things earth, all things humanity, Vertumna perched in their hand like a sweet fruit ripe for picking, juices spilling like the blood of all its creatures. And all the while Sol's own influence spreads across the fuchsia network. Their hand alone can sway the destinies of all its inhabitants and even the planet itself.

The Exocolonists of Vertumna (tumblr edition) Part 1: The starborn children of the Stratospheric
Sooo this is something I've been wanting to work on making for awhile, a tumblr text post addon for the big chunky npc list I've had for over a year. There's a lot of data I've accumulated over time that just doesn't fit in a google sheet in a decent way, and so I've been wanting to make some text posts to cover ideas that don't fit in my sheets, or might be an easier read for people who find my documents confusing.
I try to pull from canon as much as possible, and use speculation taken from a long hyperfixation on the concept of generation ships or bunkers and love for sci-fi media about it. The idea behind this list has always been to provide people with both an accessable set of easily usable/chuckable/maimable/fuckable/killable/ect names and ideas to fluff out the background of your own stories and with an illusion of consistancy, and to offer insight into my own headcanons that I've developed, so that people can take any bits and pieces they want and re-examine or reuse or recycle how they want. As always, I'll still try to mark which info is explicitly canon, but theres a lot of blanks to be filled in and my take on how things could be explained is far from the only one.
This one is gonna be an overview of the 54 people born on the Stratospheric and some approximate either in-universe or out-of-universe explanations for why things are structured the way they are. Future ones will cover specific sub-sections of those shipborn Stratos, overviews and department-specific pages about the adults of the Stratospheric, matching pages for people of the Heliopause, the children born during the final two years of the game, and even data for the kids possibly born beyond that.
In the earliest stages of drafting the ships population, the founders had planned to have exactly 100 people on the Stratospheric when it left Earth, primarily composed of their brightest and most promising between ages 10 and 25 (in local Earth years), and that 35 children would be born in five groups of seven during its 21(e)/20 (local Vertumna years) year journey, the maximum they could have fit in that ideal situation. On launch day in reality, the ship left with only 86 out of it's planned 100. Several of their important specialists were intercepted en-route to the launch pad, and a handful of their volunteer teenagers backed out in the final days and hours, while the reserve choices they had on hand were children chosen for their genetic diversity rather than skills or potential, with Utopia being an especially young outlier at just shy of 3(e). Outside of her and their sole member of generation one, Captain Eudicot, the ships population ran from original Chief Administrator Chiffon at 33(e) down to little Jubilation at 6-and-a-half(e). In one of the final documents outlined by the Earth colony's leaders in the hours before liftoff, the plans for the third generation were expanded from 35 to 50, adjusted for the younger leaning launch population and all the changes it entailed.
Similar to the founders original plan, spacer kids were still divided into five age groups (A, B, C, D, and E), with at least a year between the youngest person in one group and the eldest of the next. Half of this was to give the ship's lone acting physician a break period where there were no fresh infants or pregnancies to worry about, and the other half was to give the ship's administration time to carefully plan out the next set of children; How many children would be in this group, who was going to gestate the pregnancies, who their social parents would be (if any), what augments Instance would give them, and, most importantly, keeping an eye on the current genetic and social diversity of the third generation, so that they did not reach a genetic or social bottleneck too quickly (ie incest in a social setting, even if the two individuals are not genetically related). All of the embryos that would become the next group of children were created in the same few month period of time and cryofrozen until they were due to be implanted in the person chosen to gestate them. There were a number of extra rules that the Vertumna Group had written out that ultimately Eudicot and the council decided to abandon to at some point in the trip, all for various reasons, and not all by unanimous vote;
That there would be no need for drastic changes in the current groups' plans once the planning stage was over.
That every pregnancy would only include one fetus, with post-implantation embryo splits being selectively reduced.
None of the children born on the Stratospheric would have any genetic relationship with one another, and parents having more than one child would be discouraged, and that in cases where siblings did occur, either each sibling would only take genes from one parent (in family units with 2+ parents) or only the eldest child would have genetic relation to their parent and any following child would be purely from donated dna (for family units with only one parent).
That, at minimum, a quarter of every group should be set asside to for children with no dedicated family attachments, both to better. adhere to the group's original idea of having no parents, but also to give the young colony a bit more padding against the looming threat of everyone being second or third cousins in only a few generations.
Another rule that, while not completely abandoned, was less and less considered as the years went on was one that mandated how many embryos of each cluster were planned to develop with a genetically likely physiology that could get pregnant, a physiology that could get others pregnant, or anything in the vast array of historically normal and genetech introduced non-reproductive physiologies. This was never intended to determine the gender of the resulting children and any gene therapy they want or require in the future, or guarentee that the embryo would fully develop in the "intended" (solely in regards to their future reproductive capibilities, without further gene therepy involvement) way, but rather an attempt to gamble that at a decent number of the third generation would be able to continue the human species in the event their genetech was lost prematurely. For the original plan with 5 groups of 7, each group was to have a minimum of 3 embryos with an expected physeology that would be able to carry a pregnancy, 3 that could sire a pregnancy, and the 7th wouldn't have any requirements. The 3/3/1 ratio was followed exactly only during the first group, while following groups would only roughly follow this plan. In total, 54 children were born between leaving Earth and arriving at the wormhole; 30 out of them having siblings of some kind, with 10 of those children being born in sets of multiples (with two sets of twins and two sets of triplets) - with only one accidental post-implanation embryotic split resulting in two of those children - with 16 of the children have some genetic relationship with one another (though, with the exception of the identical sisters, none closer than genetic half siblings); and ultimately, only 9 children were explicitly born to be raised in the creche without parentage.
The 54 children of the Stratospheric:
Group A: The oldest spacer kids, they'd be adults at landing by Helio standards but they're still minors by the culture of the Vertumna group, coddled and babied more at landing than Sol when they reach the same age down the road, even if they still have adult jobs and responsabilities.
Cosmozoa "Cosmo" - he/him - 18
Lilium "Lili" - she/her - 18
Sorrel - he/him - 18 - A canon name and job, rest of info is fanmade
Benevolence "Bena" - she/her - 18
Edamame "Ed" - he/him - 17
Malagma "Mal" - they/them - 17
Absinthe "Abby" - any pronouns, feminine formal terms - 16* (17th birthday shortly after New Year day but before landing on Vertumna)
Group B: Kom's age group, with him as the oldest of the bracket, still young enough to be discovering themselves but old enough that the adults are rapidly giving them more responsibilities than their upperclassmen were at the same age. A series of unlikely and specific events led to the existance of the ships first set of multiples, and their existance provides in-universe backstory and reasoning for why some of the following children exist.
Kombucha "Kom" - he/him - 15
Quinine "Quinni" - they/them, later + he/him - 15 - same deal as Sorrel, even being named in the same event
Thicket - Any, masculine familiar terms - 14** (15th birthday after arriving on Vertumna but before Sol wakes up in medbay)
Opulence "Opal" - she/her - 14
Vertex "Tex" he/him - 14
Tempest "Pem" - she/her + They/them - 13* (same as Abby)
Chrysocolla "Chrys" - they/them - 13
Triplets Coriander "Cory" (he/him) , Scallopini "Pina" (she/her) , and Amaretto "Ame" (she/her) - 13 - Pina and Ame are the identical sisters mentioned above, while their fraternal brother Cory is genetically unrelated to them
Falchion "Kion" - he/him - 13
Group C: Sol's age bracket, most of these kids are canon and need no explanation
Arroyo "Ary" - he/him - 11
Aspartame "Tammy" - she/her - 11
Recalcitrance "Cal" - he/him - 11
Simplicity "Plic" - she/her - 11
Peregrine "Penny" - she/her - 10
Evanescence "Evan" - he/him - 10
Philosophy "Sully" - they/them - 10
Marzipan "Marz" - she/her - 10
Solanaceae* "Sol*" - they/them* - 9** name varies by timeline, but all of my documents will refer to our player character as Sol, and primarily but not exclusively with they/them pronouns; their 10th birthday is very notibly after they land on Vertumna shortly into the new year
Anemone "Annie/Nem/Nemmie/[Determined by player choice]" - she/her - 9
Twins Dysthymia "Dys" (he/him) and Tangent "Tang" (she/her) - 9 - in all of my headcanon documents, including this one, I am going with the idea that they are planned fraternal twins with seperate sperm donors; I know the take that they were idetical twins is a common one, but it isn't actually a canon one; nothing in the game actively states this, the idea that they were identical is simply a common and very reasonable take on the information the game gives us, but it was never something I got from playing the game myself. If you're curious about all the exact reasons for this you can send an ask and I'll elaborate.
Group D - The younger kids, like Anemone's triplet brothers, half of them have their holopalms installed but still spend a lot of time in the creche when they land. All but the eldest three are kids Sol and Tammy babysit, and 100% of them are kids Sol can later tutor in school
Hawthorn "Hawth" - they/them - 7
Hyaline "Lin" - any - 7
Sepia - she/her - 7
Triplets Cirrus, Stratus, and Cumulus (all he/him) - 6** (same as Thicket) - we never get their exact age, but they're listed as being 7 years old when the game starts in an only mostly correct game file character sheet, the triplets ended up being technically 6 at the start because of an early whoopsie daisy during early npc documentation
Mistletoe "Misu-Misu" - she/her - 6
Kelvin - he/him - 6
Effervesence - he/him, later + they/them - 5
Vendetta "Detta" - she/her, later + they/them - 5
Necterine "Nena" - she/her - 5
Group E - The youngest of the generation, all toddlers and babies on arrival, space born in technicality, but children of Vertumna in every other way. The largest of the groups with 13 children included, and the group with the most imaginative and most untested augments.
Nougat - she/her - 3
Nimbus - he/him - 3 - similar to the cloud triplets, we never get his age beyond that he's "little Nimbus", but he's old enough to be in school when Sol first unlocks the tutoring job so I put him at Nougat's age
Panache "Pan" - he/him - 2
Maraschino "Chino" - he/him & she/her - 2 -while Chino does appear in game with only the he/him pronouns used, "Marachino "Chino" with the pronouns he/him"'s age is never directly given in-game, a "Marachino "Mara" with the pronouns she/her" and an age of 2 is listed in the same file that gives the cloud triplet's their approximate age and listed as a child encountered during babysitting, so I went with a middle ground of having this character use both pronouns and later both nicknames
Tessera "Tess" - she/her - 2
Macaroni "Mac" - she/her & he/him - 1 - the child with the no pain augment is refered to with he/him pronouns in-game, but I went with a similar deal to Chino for variety
Contrivance "Connie" - he/him - 1 - the child with the shark teeth augment is also refered to with he/him pronouns
Ketamine "Ket" - they/them - 1
Maxilla "Max" - he/him - 0
Twins Whimsy and Praline (both she/her) - 0 - while one of Dys's late game/high skill events has him talking about how at one point he and Tangent were "The Twins" prior to their relationship crumbling apart, I thought it would be narratively fitting to have a younger set of twins being planned/conceived/born at the same time as their relationship falls apart as Tangent gets further into genetics (where said twins were being made), making him and Tang lose their status as being "The Twins" in multiple ways
Benzodiazepine "Benji" - he/him - 0
Enigma "Ena" - she/her - 0 - the youngest child from the Strato's third gen and last one to be born in space is refered to with she/her pronouns as a baby, opted to keep those pronouns as she grows older
In total, the shipborn children and teenagers account for roughly 40% of it's landing population (39.7% when arriving at the wormhole, and 42.2% after the canonly unavoidable loss of life during it's landing). This number combined with the chaos of living on a new planet and the very likely scenario of the ship's brown dirt being lost would be a good starting explanation for some of the glaring failures in child wellfair and safety during the 10 years we see during the game, but definately not an excuse. The next post is going to be either a quick overlook of the gen 2 Strato characters or a more detailed post for one of the specific gen 3 groups, detailing things like birthdays and augments, with posts detailing the adult npcs and all the Helios and planetborn children coming later.
Also, as there was no decent way to include this higher up the list, here are the sibling sets discussed earlier;
Sorrel, Thicket, and Misu [only Sorrel shares any dna with their mother, Thicket and Misu are both entirely from donor dna]
Kom, Anemone, Cirrus, Stratus, Cumulus, and Nimbus [Kom and Anemone are genetic half siblings with 50% of their genes from Anne, while the following boys only have between 15 and 35% coming from Anne, with the rest from multiple donors]
Opal and Ves [Opal only shares her mother's dna, while Ves only shares his father's]
Tex and Ary [only Tex has his father's dna, with Arroyo's embryo coming from Earth]
Cory, Pina, and Ame [None of the trio have their mother's dna, and the embryo that became Cory shared no dna with the embryo that split into Pina and Ame]
Kion, Penny, and Sepia [One of the three is only genetically related to one of their two parents, another is only genetically related to the second parent, and the third is entirely from donor dna or an Earth embryo, but only Instance knows which of the three is which, as all three were created (or selected) at the same time for this exact scenario]
Sully and Ket [occupy a unique space as sorta step-siblings, as they both have single parents who begin a romantic relationship after landing]
Dys and Tang [explained above]
Kelvin and Pan [occupy another unique space as social half-siblings, with Kelvin being born to a single father who entered a relationship after he was born, but his father's partner is very explicitly not his mom genetically or socially]
Detta and Connie [a similar deal to Opal and Ves, but I haven't mapped out which parent is which yet]
Nena and Chino [genetic half siblings, with both taking dna from their mother and Nena taking dna from one of their fathers and Chino taking it from the other]
Whimsy and Praline [they don't share any genetic material with one another or their mom, and an in-universe rumored reason for it is that their mom had been the egg donor for one of the older children]
Also, the creche children who were born at the behest of the colony without any specific designated parents in mind
Bena
Mal
Chrys
Plic
Hawth
Lin
Nougat
Tess
Max
Side note: Canonically, Anemone's brother Kom is the oldest shipborn child we see, and while I believe Lindsay intended for Kom to be the oldest member of gen 3 after Utopia, this is never actually stated in the game, and I was surprised to see that it was the intent as it never came across to me that way during my initial playthroughs. Nothing in here explicitly ignores or goes against anything said or mentioned in the game proper, but I know that having any of the kids be older than Kom is probably the not the most canon way to construct the generations layout. One of the canonly used names in the game, "Sorrel", has been given to one of these teens, but there is neither anything for or against Sorrel being this age, as the only information we get beyond a name is a manner of death and a place of work.

hope my reblog helps you understand why cal was put third row from the bottom :3 he irritates me a lot because i would do 50 botanist runs (one of my fav endings) in a row, except xenobotany job requires that i spend time with cal and it goes against my values.
Yeah, thanks for explaining the thought behind Cal's placement! I absolutely love talking with people about Exocolonist. :) (I keep hearing people mention a possible Vace line that makes him less of an asshole, and OMG I NEED to play more of this game!)
My thoughts on Cal are different, as you might have guessed. ;) This game is full of tiny tragedies and contradictions. I think I would say every character is a hypocrite at some point. But the actual mission the humans are on is itself hypocritical. When the colonists leave earth behind, instead of leaving human troubles behind they bring them with them, particularly the "colonist" part. Cal and Dys are some of the only characters who are willing to look at the human colony from the Vertumna perspective and point out that, fundamentally, however noble their goals might be, the humans are the invading aggressors here. Cal is also an unyielding pacifist, so yeah, the way that he processes the deaths of his friends and neighbors is different from and often unpalatable to the other characters. He certainly isn't right all the time, but I find the perspective compelling.
Anyway, it's awesome to hear your thoughts on one of my favorite games and I hope you keep talking about the characters you love!

It took me two attempts to romance Vace successfully, but I learned a lot from my first attempt!
As a part of this run, I was also going to be an astronaut, and I was going to be besties with Nemmie and Rex, since I'd heard that those relationships were key to getting the most out of a Vace run and feeling less awful about it!
Things I found out from this first attempt:
You actually DO NOT have to break up Nemmie and Vace to have a good ending for both
I failed to have enough Persuasion the first time to do this, so they did not break up and I did not succeed in convincing Nemmie.
The epilogues change for Nemmie, Vace, and Rex if you are friends with all three of them!
Nemmie still becomes a stay-at-home mom, and Vace does relapse into old patterns, but because all three of you are friends, they do overcome it, and Nemmie avoids dying young (I failed to get peace in either of these endings oops or even meet Sym)
Rex and Vace also make up in the epilogue later on when they both mellow out as adults!
If you are an Astronaut and you fail to negotiate peace, you and Vace die together trying to find a new place to go because Vertumna isn't working out and you get unique death text!
What's most interesting, though, is that these epilogues are unique to you NOT breaking up Nemmie and Vace and NOT reconciling Rex with Vace in the game, but still getting Vace through his therapy arc!
That said, his Friendship 100 event will not appear if you do not break him and Nemmie up! How do I know? Because on the second run, instead of doing the Level 90 event and starting the therapy arc as soon as I could, I waited and got some Humanities classes and bought some gear to boost my Persuasion to level 32.
Here's what happened:
I broke him and Nemmie up (and learned from save-scumming that I did not want to flirt with him in the moment) and mentioned Rex (but did not have Level 50 persuasion to get him to agree to make up)
A few months later, we got Vace's friendship 100 event where I was able to successfully flirt and get into a healthy relationship with him.
I also told him he messed up with Rex, and he of course talked about Nemmie
We promised to leave for space together <3
And when you get together with him at this point, his dialogue is honestly so sweet, about how he isn't sure he can be a good partner with what he did with Nemmie, but he's willing to try and be better, I really liked this and it gave a lot of depth to the choice, was honestly worth everything you had to do to get to this point
I then raised Rex's friendship to 80 and opened a bunch of options to talk to him about Vace, and because I hit Friendship 100 with Vace, it right after had Vace and Rex reconcile
Failed to get peace again, became an Astronaut again
Nemmie and Rex's epilogues go back to their defaults with the usual mention of hating Vace for Nemmie and her dying young on the battlefield because I failed to negotiate peace
AND VACE'S EPILOGUE JUST DIDN'T SHOW?!?
I heard the astronaut ending is super glitchy and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it???
Either way, I'm disappointed, especially as it was hard to do this route, making my polycule was easier
And with the other epilogues, I honestly prefer the first astronaut ending
And that's the latest of Grace's Adventures on Vertumna! The Vace routes can be really rewarding, but man is there a lot of self-betrayal along the way.

new fanfic, come get your fanfics!
for the exocolonist fandom this time :D Without All The Nuance is a fic that focuses on the mental issues Sol probably has after living all of those lives and being set back again and again to relive it; so they have a slew of mental issues that are slightly different from chapter to chapter. They're kind of like one-shots, but are all very loosely related.
Chapters include:
Chapter 1 - Tangent - Solutions and Formulas Chapter 2 - Tammy - Princess in a Locked Tower Chapter 3 - Anemone - Oversized Chainmail (undersized spears) Chapter 4 - Cal - Twitching Stars are no good for Directions Chapter 5 - Rex - A good friend Chapter 6 - Sol - Without All The Nuance Chapter 7 - Extras - Fic structure, chapter plans, and scrapped chapters
The chapters are all up, the fic can be found in my pinned post under "In Vertumna and Time."

The Tragedy of the Exocolony on Vertumna IV - chapter 3
When the Heliopause lands on Vertumna, Commander Lum is certain he knows what to expect.
For almost as long as he can remember, he’s been dreaming of this moment. Of setting foot on that foreign world and finally apprehending those damn fugitives of the Vertumna Cult.
But the old crone in front of him, a woman he’s only ever seen pictures of, just looks at him with blank eyes, and says one thing with a voice that is dead:
“You never should have come here”.

hmmmmmmmm olivace+array............ fascinating he's just Fine afterwards. fascinating u just kiss long-term and it's fine. something something near death experiences do change you, something something tying this back to his desire to be back in space and how the only time he felt alive was during the crash and how both of those are really just his desire for connection expressing itself terribly, something something the inevitable genuine respect this owuld bring him in the aftermath might genuinely benefit him bc it's smth he can be Genuinely proud of instead of like. bitchboy proud of (lmao)
oh i do think it's interesting that anemone leaves you in this end iirc. how much does vace Really change and how much is that sol seeing the best in him after he nearly dies for him
also unrelated to vace completely i lov what this says abt sol <3 this is the Bad Ending ot them. sol is in love with vertumna even when they want to destroy it and i love that

Hello! My name is Faolan and I’m an aspiring author! I am currently working on a fantasy novel titled “People of Akari” and I’m sharing my work on its conlang here.
I have also gotten back into writing fanfics, Ghost and Baldurs Gate 3 being that reason. Lots of Astarion fics to write and I plan on making others for different characters too.
I do take requests, but I will refuse if they cross a boundary of mine or I don’t have the experiences to write it well.
I’m on Ao3! Runix57 is my username
(He/him) pronouns pls!
Here’s just some basic rules for the page
DNI if ur transphobic, homophobic, or think polyamory is morally wrong
DNI if ur against furries or a zoophile.
Most of the content I plan on posting is cool if ur under 18, if something isn’t I’ll put a warning at the top. HOWEVER, whether you are a mutual or not don’t dm me or anything like that if you are under 18, I will block you. I don’t mind you interacting with my art or writing but I draw the line at dming me or anything of that sort.
TW ahead of time: death, swearing, suicide mention, some transphobic assholes, toxic/abusive people, maybe some smoking and/or alcohol but not sure yet
Topics I will NEVER include in my writing: rape, incest, detrans, super heavy descriptions of violence/gore (more will be added to this list just can’t come up with anymore rn)
Overall don’t be an ass and feel free to ask questions whether about the fandoms I like or the conlang I’m working on or just general stuff
If you see a listing here without a link, it means it has yet to be posted but is in the works. I can only type so much and certain parts take more planning on my end as I write them out.
ALSO feel free to ask questions to clarify on anything I put in here, as long as they are polite and respectful questions I don’t mind answering stuff.
Everything is color coordinated. So if you see Green it is for Baldurs Gate Fics, Purple for People of Akari, and Pink for Ghost. Blue is for my I was a Teenage Exocolonist Brainrot Music Stuff. Orange is for any of my Art

misc IWATEX drabbles
Hi, so I've been writing a certain fic and have amassed quite a bit of different random scenes which I may or may not use... and I thought,,, it might be fun to share some. N if people like them I'd certainly love to do/share more uwu
1. In which Sol suffers a bad case of burn-out after facilitating peace with the gardeners and decides to take a sabbatical.
Anemone hears it from Tangent, who says it as matter-of-factly as anything: Sol has disappeared. To be fair to them, it was a planned, voluntary disappearance. Anemone hasn't seen Sol in 3 years, and yet the pang of hurt she feels is as fresh as the dew on her boots. Already impossibly far, they have moved into some new to her unreachable realm, drifting ever farther and farther away.
Sym never quite learns to lie outright, so he cannot tell them honestly if Sol is happy or not. Only that they are getting better. They are trying. They are trying to get back to everyone and themself. Even if to all of them it looks like doing the opposite.
Once, Sol uploads a 20 minute long soundscape to the holonet. It is entirely taken up by the sound of crashing waves. Something about it makes her realize its not an old recording of Earth- its Vertumna. Sol is at the ocean. Their voice hums underneath the nature sounds, going in and out at various intervals as it follows one pattern, then loses it only to start trailing another, lulling one into a sense of calm and just the lightest sting of loss. Reminds one, gently but insistently, of the vast distance between her and Sol.
Their voice is salt-cracked and hoarse. Now a stranger to language, their tongue bends only for the small, simple sounds.  Are they eating well? Their mouth cannot answer. It must be inferred from the thinness of their breath.
Does salt crust the corners of their eyes?       There is no way of telling.       Are they cold?      Do they sleep?      Are they shivering?     Do they think of her?    Are their pets well-fed?       Do they miss their mother?     Are there holes in their shirt that need mending?      Does the scar still itch?       Have they shelter?  A home?     Does it get lonely?    Is she at fault?      Will they ever talk to her?        Did they catch Echinacea's first steps?       Do they watch the videos and follow along life at the colony?      Is their knife still sharp?      Are they drinking enough?     Do they sleep better now than they had before, at home?    Is it enough to keep them from the nightmares?
2. Dys & Sol
Where Dys was fearless, emotional, Sol was calm, always measured. Their conflicting natures again grinding against each other until they finally ground each others edges smooth. Eroded enough to stand beside one another. Shoulder to shoulder. A protrusion laid into the groove, spike fitted against spike closing into a gapless vice, puzzle piece in puzzle piece. Still not smooth enough to play well with the others.
Sol always wondered about that. How these two unlike objects could come so close and find what was lacking and what could be given in turn.
Belief the chiefest among those necessities. Belief was hard to come by from anyone else who was not the playground seer or the cryptid of stratospheric. They traded it between each other like tokens, like currency which once their ancestors had sought just to be able to survive. The stakes here were just as dire.
Belief was a powerful thing- it could make or break you. It could make you whole or leave you forever unfulfilled, left to feel around blindly for every shadow of its shape as it eludes you time and time again, as it is buried down deeper by the disappointment and the falsities.
"Fine, don't believe in the colony. Believe in me."
"I do, Sol. But you're just one person."
3. ...and another one why not.
He finds Sol balancing on the edge of a wall near their lookout tower. They grin at him, they're in a good mood. This might be bad. They  waggle their eyebrows in challenge, then extend one leg over the edge of the wall.
“Dare ya,”
They start and don't even finish the sentence. There’s no need. They already have Dys’ undivided attention.
He smirks and scoffs. “As if I’ve never jumped off the wall, please Sol. That’s baby stuff.”
For a moment he watches them  pause and look out across the Vertumnan wilds, tensing imperceptibly. Or, no, not quite. It looks more like they’re frozen in place, like none of their limbs were ever designed with movement in mind. Their pupils don't even twitch, they don't blink. The action is both painfully familiar and alien, as if they’re one of…
Then all at once, they’re alive again, interfacing with the physical world. Their body careens forward and their grin goes down, down, down…
He rushes forward. He’s just in time to jump off the ledge as the toes of Sol’s shoe leave solid ground. There's no way he can be outdone by Sol. Sol who by all accounts should be capable of experiencing fear but does not only on account of that they're totally and irreversibly insane. There’s nobody he’d want to be with more in this moment.
Sol, of course, knows they will be fine. They were careful, they checked. No bad feelings, no premonitions. Just tuck and roll.
4.[COULD YOU HELP ME RELAX?] (Sol x Sym)
"I'm just so tired Sym. I feel so old; barely like a person at all."
He pulls them down as he habitually does, using his arm as their headrest.
"No matter what, you'll always be the one I love," he says soothing.
"No, I know- its just-" they groan rubbing their face in frustration and exhaustion.
"Oh, should I be offended? Am I not enough for you, sugarbug?" Sym teases.
Sol grins in a kind of half-defeat, half-relief that he won't make them actually get into the meat of it. They're far too worn for that now.
"You know what I mean." This, they say with the smile still in their voice.
"I think I do. I'm sorry I cannot do more at this moment. But, when the time comes, you will make the right choice, I know it. I believe in you, my love."
Sym finds himself not for the first time feeling guilt over the clarity of purpose he has as opposed to his chaotic human friends.
Though maybe that's not the issue with Sol at all, maybe it's the opposite. Because they do have a purpose coded into them. It's simply too much for one person to bare. He knows he is part of that issue as much as he'd wish to remain a truly neutral party.
He can't do anything more than kiss their temple as he smooths back their hair, his helplessness expressed in this gesture oddly human. For all his vast knowledge, the soothing motions of a social pack animal is the best he can offer.
"That was just what I needed," they say too soon, tension pulling them up like a whip, as if the words themselves were some sort of trigger. They kept going regardless. Before he could have ever even administered his Gardener magic to them. Does this mean they don't feel its effects at all anymore? Could they not tell the difference between a comforting word and supercharged chemical reaction?

so uh. arts not been arting for me the last few months, lots of complicated issues at play with that, but my exo brainrot is unending and I've taken to designing npcs in the sims when I feel the design need but art is shrimply not happening. These ones are of varying degrees of canon-ness and importance, pretty frequently picked at random or because I previously made a family member or partner of theirs.
I tried to group them together by family or age or work relation but god does Tumblr not like large images so forgive me for the spam. I'll add names/pronouns/relevant ages under them; Strato-side kids closest to Sol's age will have 3 designs, each while Strato-side teenagers between Tammy and Kom's ages will have 2 each.
Under the cut if you dare (warning! Spoilers mentioned & extremely image heavy)
Also uh. you will notice that a few of these people aren't on the current npc list or don't match with it's info. Long story short its getting some refining and that included some new kids and other changes that required a lot of pulling things out from the roots. one of those things playing into why arts not been arting while.
Anywho;
Tumblr media
Arroyo - he/him - ages 12 / 16 / 19 - The younger son of the Stratospheric's original Chief Steward, a future member of expeditions, a convienient and accidental scape goat for people to reason away Dys's crush on an unseen pretty boy, though they don't actually have any strong opinions on one another
Tumblr media
Simplicity "Plic"/"Lis" - she/her - ages 12 / 16 / 19 - Lazy girl born and raised in the creche, supposedly she helps out in the depot, she might "date" Nomi down the line (but by date I mean "we say we're dating but I think we might just be hanging out because neither of us know what to want or expect from a romantic relationship", there's no hard feelings after it ends) if Nomi doesn't end up with Rex or Sol
Tumblr media
Peregrine "Penny" - she/her - ages 11 / 15 / 18 - A perfectly nice girl, but fades away in the crowd, she likes to tease the other kids a little too much, one of the passionate romances referenced in the endings where Cal doesn't settle down with Sol Tammy or Anemone, it is not a pretty breakup
Tumblr media
Evanescence "Evan" - he/him - ages 11 / 15 / 18 - The spoiled only child of two older parents, a prolific momma's boy in childhood but a heartthrob with a bad reputation later down the line, another one of those passionate romances mentioned in Cal's ending text, with his being the last before Cal settles down with the farmer from the Heliopause
Tumblr media
Philosophy "Sully" - they/them - ages 10 / 14 / 17 - The only child of a single father who works in engineering, loves a good game of sportsball but has no interest in the rest of what the garrison offers, the middle of Cal's three passionate romances and the only one to end on good terms
Tumblr media
Opulence "Opal" - she/her - ages 14 / 19 - Friendly and absentminded, she can never resist a good piece of gossip, she dreams of starting Vertumna's first offical news source, her oldest child is born about a year after Echinacea (and Sol might even deliver him!)
Tumblr media
Vertex "Tex" - he/him - ages 14 / 19 - The older son of the ship's original Chief Steward, a punk who likes to get dangerous with the wildlife and a tendancy to take things too far
Tumblr media
Tempest "Pem" - she/her & they/them - ages 13 / 18 - Rebellious older girl whos behaviors only gotten worse since losing a father during the Stratospheric's crash, rude and obnoxious to the adults but always has a soysweet on hand for the kids
Tumblr media
Chrysocolla - they/them - ages 13 / 18 - creche-born kid and resident class clown, the smart kid who doesn't put in the effort after seeing the younger geniuses around them, takes a painfully long time to confess to their best friend
Tumblr media
Coriander "Cory" - he/him - ages 13 / 18 - Quiet and plain-looking boy who helps out in the kitchens, he struggles to stand out next to his sisters, feeling like the lesser triplet for not being identical
Tumblr media
Scallopini "Pina" - she/her - ages 13 / 18 - A cheerful girl who both has more energy than the rest of her family combined while still remaining total chillax, started dying her hair blue so people could tell her and her sister apart
Tumblr media
Amaretto "Ame" - she/her - ages 13 / 18 - A meek but passionate girl, she feels like she was born in her sisters contrast, struggles to find her sense of self when the most unique thing about her is that she's got nothing unique at all
Tumblr media
Falchion "Kion" - he/him - ages 13 / 18 - Teenager who seems desperate to find his place in life, often making dangerous mistakes in the process
Tumblr media
[Left] Hyacinth "Cici" - she/her - age 17 - A young sniper from the Heliopause, the future Chief of Security in timelines where Sol and Anemone are not and Vace hasn't handled his issues yet
[Right] Lunation "Luna" - she/her - age 19 - Previously the Heliopause's current doctor-in-training, a catastrophic brain injury during the crash has drastically changed her life and put her on indefinate medical leave
Tumblr media
[Far Left] Champagne "Champ" - he/him - age 9 - a young boy who starts out eager to grow up and become a soldier, but might find a different calling in life with help [Middle Left] Schnapps - he/him - age 40 - A cook from the Helio who takes the culture shock better than most, has a weekly card game with Nomi's dad [Middle] Crocus "Cro" - she/her - 38 - A cook from the Heliopause who prays in secret that her children do not die child soldiers [Middle right] Affogato "Affie" - she/her - age 13 - One of the teenage soldiers who follows Vace around, she's desperate to impress the older kids and will cruelly treat others like stepping stones to do so [Far Right] Meringue "Meri" - she/her - age 6 - The last child born on the Heliopause, she's destined to become a doctor when she grows up, she first gained an interest in medicine during gene therapy like Tangent
Tumblr media
[Left] Harpsicord "Harrie" - They/them - 51 - An actual rocket scientist that ensured the rocketship got to Vertumna, Saga's doting wife and Evan's adoring Mada
[Right] Sagacious "Saga" - She/her - 46 - A sweet and loving auntie from geoponics who remains painfully oblivious to most well-known gossip, her casual tendancy to spoil and coddle her son drives Flulu up a wall
Tumblr media
[Far left] Hibiscus "Hibi" - she/her - 35 - One of the surveyors in charge of rescues and it's acting emt, a control subject born from the same series of augment tests as Tonin, she's suited more to space than the planet the same way he is, Vertumna terrifies her daily and she fears for the futures of her teenage triplets
[Center left] Rumination "Rumi" - he/him - 46 - A talented guitar player who enjoys lying to children and is in a committed relationship with the bit, works in rescues with Hibi, holds the technical title of "Former Chief Surveyor" as he was the presumed next-in-line when Imbroglio abbruptly retired a decade prior, although he only held it long enough to laugh himself sick and walk out the door, he's the sole reason Utopia's accent is like that
[Center right] Paprika "Prika" - she/her - 37 - Mechanic in charge of expeditions equiptment and transports, has a hair trigger temper with certain subjects and a habit of spraying offending teenagers with the hose, the irony of her student/trainee Thicket being the biological-via-donation child of her partner and later her own biological-via-donation child joining expeditions are both frequent source of jokes for awhile
[Far right] Brassica "Braz" - she/her - 39 - One of the construction workers who had trained for that job specifically, has a lot of pratice mediating problems that her partner's anger issues cause, got on the ship by pretending to be in a relationship with a friend and convieniently "breaking up" once it was clear they were never going to form a family unit
Tumblr media
[Far left] Revolutionary "Lulu" - she/her - age 28 - primarily a geoponics farmer, an on and off member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule, in a queer platonic relationship with Blip
[Middle left] Sorbet - she/her & they/them - age 27 - a steward who primarily works in the kitchens, another on and off member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule; she was the egg donor and surrogate for Benji (the young doggy boy npc)
[Center left] Habitation "Hab" - he/him - age 26 - one of the ships dedicated creche parents; part of a closed chain polycule of 4 people (no overlap with the greater geoponics area wlw polycule); loves his job but resents ship administration for passing him and his family unit over during the last round of children born in space, yet making him feel pressured into agreeing to surrogate one of the other children
[Center right] Oblivion "Blip" - he/him - age 26 - an engineer in space but shoved into more general work after landing; loves his best friend but her polycule stories scare him a little, you will never see his entire face, but if you did he could easily pass as Dys & Tang's relative despite not being related at all, the fourth youngest person to leave on the Stratospheric
[Middle right] Optimism "Tim" - he/him - age 26 - stuck to janitor duty in space but also shoved into other jobs after landing, one of the few people guaranteed to live to Sol's 20th birthday, the third youngest person to leave on the Stratospheric
[Far right] Jubilation "Jubee" - she/her - age 26 - same deal as Blip; she was the surrogate for the last child born in space (Enigma, the girl with the rainbow hair), and is still recovering physically and emotionally when the game starts; her twin sister Jamboree died before she left, but only one of them was ever going to be picked for the ship, she can't remember her sister's face anymore; the second youngest member of gen 2 after Utopia
Tumblr media
[Far left] Coralline "Cora" - she/her - age 28 - the ships fourth dedicated creche parent on paper, she's frequently pulled to help on the farms after landing, a consistant member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule
[Center left] Pyromania "Sparky" - she/her & they/them - 29 - Originally just a part time security officer, her soldier duties quickly begin outweighing her cultivator ones, she started dying her hair like that when she found out the meaning of her name and keeps it another month every time someone calls it tacky, it's been 12 years; another consistant member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule
[Center right] Curarine "Curie" - she/her & they/them - 32 - A pharmacology researcher doomed by the narrative, the youngest person on the Stratospheric chosen for her skills rather than genetic diversity, she quickly disapointed Instance with her undriven personality, another consistant member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule
[Far right] Unity "Nita" - she/her - age 31 - The only one here who exclusively works in geoponics, she was four seperate farming wlw until the latest revamp forced me to compress her down into one, the last consistant member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule
Tumblr media
[Left] Mangosteen "Maggie" - she/her - age 30 - Maggie's death when the Strato lands is unavoidable (as her infant twins Whimsy and Praline fill the role of "orphans from the wormhole crash" during babysitting), once a frequent member of the greater geoponics area wlw polycule but had been avoiding the dating scene after a really messy & very public breakup of her throuple with Yuzu and Cinnamon, she was a creche parent and a hydroponics farmer on the ship
[Right] Yuzu - any pronouns - age 31 - Yuzu doesn't 100% use the term wlw but does work in geoponics and either is currently or has previously been dating the same overlapping circle (though they've also been avoiding dating, but mostly because the rest of the polycule "doesn't want to pick sides"), they avoid Maggie's children like the plague
and that would be it for tonight lads, it is now night'o'clock and my hands are starting to hurt, I think I got all the right info down but if not I'll fix it tomorrow or whenever I notice theres a problem. If you've gotten this far I hope you've had fun looking at some of my little guys

IWATEX Sol Breakdown!
So adult Sol Breakdown first!
First their pants are pretty simple: find some ripped white skinny jeans. And tbh this is a pattern for most of the ending outfits, they're modern skinny fit pants that are slightly altered. The belt is kinda a dark teal but like any dark colored, matte finish belt should work. Then there's the grey things on the lower shin. My first though is compression socks over the jeans but if that's uncomfortable, knee high ish plain grey socks should work just fine. Might need to pin them up or something to the jeans though. Shoes are pretty plain and like who's gonna bother you about the shoes not being accurate? Just any plain black ones will work.
Now for the tops:
Tumblr media
Putting a labeled image of Sol here to make explanation easier. They're wearing 3 seperate layers, the black underlayer, the sleeveless vest thing and the coat on top.
Since they're covered by the coat the black sleeves and collar thing could be seperate but I doubt that (1).There's a lot of long sleeve black boleros that have that neckline, and some of those have the turtleneck too. "Long Sleeve mock neck shrug" got me decent results, "turtleneck" works as well.
Next layer is the vest thing (2). Tbh i'd take a loose fitting sweater vest or something, to steal the neckline and fit from, and just add the cross over bit. Tutorial: https://sewguide.com/cross-over-top-free-sewing-pattern-tutorial/ This isn't super form fitting so just adding that in won't mess things up. Or you could adapt a cross over top pattern, here's a random one https://patternscoutstudio.com/products/romy-wrap-top-dress-pdf-sewing-pattern.
Then the coat (3). I think the pattern could be two things. One it's just mostly rectangles and triangles. Cue my very shitty drawing:
Tumblr media
The back is a rectangle with flares, front rectangle, sleeve is just a rectangle. The C is the collar and is a long strip with a typical collar slapped onto it. This kinda of minimal design is common in zero waste/historical patterns. The zero waste thing aligns with the vertumna groups kinda hippy ideals and limited resources. The other way to do this is adapting a loose fitting jacket, or kimono style jacket. Also a little detail I like, the little black stripes on top of the shoulders could be a shoulder strap meant to keep bags in place.
Now robotoicist Sol:
Tumblr media
Robotocist and Architect Sol have the same outfit, with just a few accessories color swapped. Hunter Sol is similar, but pants are color swapped and there's a jacket on top. The pants are just skinny jeans or like chinos with hunter Sol. The shirt is similar to your bog standard generic western historical mens shirt. So like search up "medieval mens shirt", "ren faire shirt", etc. Then just cut off the sleeves. It isn't 100% match, there seems to be a mesh panel at the sides of Sol's shirt and it's tighter fitting then those shirts usually are but it's close enough. The thing on top looks like it can be adapted from a bra pattern, and like for Hunter Sol could just be made out of foam and resemble armor.
In general for Sol, especially in the endings their pants are just modern pieces slighly adapted/modified for scifi. Shoes as well. Governer Sol is just wearing white skinny jeans/chinos. Some outfits are reused for multiple endings. Astronaught/Collector/Explorer Sol all have the same outfit and like modified white tights. Athlete/Entertainer/Rebel all have black tights/skinny jeans that have kneepads. Farmer/Rancher probably require sewing the pants up but that's it. Parent/Professor/Hobbiest all have pants with stirrups but it's such a small details that just skinny jeans work.
Last because this is a lot of words: governer Sol.
Tumblr media
This is the only ending Sol with a unique outfit. There's a lot going on but at least the bottom half is simple. White not ripped skinny jeans/Chinos. Then the top half. I think Sol is wearing 5 layers on top. There's a purple undershirt with the high collar and asymtrical hem that pokes out on the bottom. You could use an athleticwear shirt like this or make it adapting a turtleneck t shirt pattern. Then there's the dark blue layer on top which tbh confuses me. I think it's supposed to mimic a waistcoat in a 3 piece suit so it's sleeveless and has that opening in the center front? Like it can probably me modified from a side/back opening, cause it doesn't look like it opens from the front, sleeveless top/bodice pattern. Skipping past the next 2 layers the final layer is this genshin looking scarf thing. It looks like a scarf draped with a fancy pin. Layer 3/5 is the coat. Here's a tracing of what I think it looks like. Green is for the collar.
Tumblr media
It looks like it's playing on the idea of a tail coat, with how the front is cut short. The lapel/collar also goes all the way from the neckline to the bottom of the front. I'd say get a frock coat/halloween coat pattern that has appropriate amount of swoosh and then just cut the front out. Then there are the transparent sleeve things layer 4/5. It looks like 2 petals for sleeves then a top that follows the same lines as the coat except cropped. Probably follow the coat pattern?
I like doing costume breakdowns and know a okay amount of sewing and patterns so if you want any more specific Sols/endings lmk and i'd by happy to try to figure them out!
ayo, so like I did myself a search of around ten minutes looking for cosplays from the Exocolonist fandom (what I found was hella epic) but I can’t find anyone who’s cosplayed as sol
I wanna try and make/buy parts for one of their outfits (haven’t decided which but ending cards are included) but can’t find any good clothes to use as bases or patterns I could use to sew the thing myself or even just someone else trying to dress as them so I could see their process
If anyone has anything they think might be useful for their adult, teenage or one of the ending card outfits—e.g: performer, governor, astronaut, engineer, etc— drop a link or a name I can search please!

🍀 [FOUR LEAF CLOVER] Would your OC spend hours looking for a four leaf clover?
hell yeah mannn if she heard about a four leaf clover shed spend all month in the grass looking for it. vertumna would of course kill all four leaf clovers upon finding out that a human is searching for one but i dont think thatd deter her one bit

anyways my various sols roundup
1) first playthru, high mind focus sol, never once helped out during colony attack LOL. fucking everyone died. she/her leaning demigirl who was in love w/tang from ages 10 to 100 and died forty years after her still madly in love. worlds most dysfunctional lesbian! governor marz/lawyer/neutral end
which led intoooooo
2) exploration focused he/him tguy sol, emphasis on saving people but still lost both his parents even after saving tammy+hal+tonin, which created an odd sense of distance btwn him and others esp bc his delusions were somewhat well-known. avoided tang for no reason he could explain + followed dys bc he wanted to know what was up. fell in love w/him, took over the colony instead of marz, codependent w/dys until they both died. negotiated peace w/the gardeners. governor end
which i then pushed into
3) manic I Can Do Anything! nb sol, saved literally everyone and was extremely cheerful about it. felt like the world was their oyster, everythign happened just as they wanted it to up until dys ran away + they found out he was dating sym which led to a desperate attempt at getting both of them back that culminated in them becoming a gardener bc that’s what happens sometimes! gardener end
and has now led me to
4) human centrist cisguy sol who is half in love w/everyone in the colony and has the biggest head known to man. flirting with vace AND rex AND dys AND nem bc hes fucking stupid. im still halfway thru this playthru but unfortunately i will be going full scorched earth on vertumna minus virus so. uh. good luck to them

Prev I am putting your tags on my post because you Get Me. I said before you probably have more isat knowledge than me bc I haven't got 2hats yet, and as for exocolonist you don't really need much info from the other ending? Honestly having run through the game at least once is good enough.
"...how sif and sol merge with the other world" think of it like. This is an alternate universe where they've always lived there, but now they have memories of not living there, if that makes sense. Everything about them is like they've always lived there (ie siff doesn't have craft but has a genetic augment, sol does have craft), and as far as everyone around them is concerned they've always lived there. So yes they pretty much entirely swapped without leaving a trace of the other. There's probably some mistakes that, if pointed out, could help them prove to people around them that they haven't always lived there (eg sol speaking esperanto and siff speaking french, and also siffrins name doesn't mean anything).
As for sols craft, I was thinking paper fits them, or otherwise scissors bc that's what siffrin has and i wanted the team to stay reasonably balanced (ie. not 3 paper types). So. Not sure yet! And for siffs augment, I was gonna go with super strength? I considered eagle eyes, but considering siffs missing eye and the fact that they keep missing items and traps means. it's probably not best.
"Does loop know somethings up?" Not sure yet!!! I will decide. when I finish 2hats ahah.
"Does siffrin become the child of sols parents?" Yep! Geranium calls him his "little cabbage" bc it's similar to his nickname for sol and based on the french pet name "mon petit choux" (my little cabbage). "How does siffrin react to having "parents" now?" Conflicted... on the one hand, woah! this is what it's like to have a childhood? crazy! on the other hand. these are Not Siffrins Parents. Then also a general sense of dread from not quite remembering past lives, but knowing something bad is going to happen to them. and also. siffrin keeps a meticulous diary. They Will Not Forget This Time. It started as a way to make sure they don't forget their friends, and now they just write everything that happens.
"I feel like sif would probably end up befriending dys" YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT THIS WILL BE HAPPENING. Siff, feeling like being friends with anyone else is betraying the party, would kindof end up a bit of a loner? Which then means being friends with dys. And ofc he's trying to find answers about how he got here, and potentially trying to find Vertumnas version of a favor tree.
"Sym would probably remind siffrin of loop" ohhh my god I hadn't thought of that but you're so right..... I'd imagined sym (and potentially loop) will be driving forces in getting answers, loop bc they'll know more than sol and sym bc they have dreams of someone Who Is Not Siff.
"Would the change god notice something up?" I... hadn't even thought about that. Probably. And they'd probably not be helpful at all!! The king would not notice anything, sol is still "bright one" to him.
As for siffrins lack of wishing causing the loops well. I have ideas for it that I will keep under wraps in case I write stuff for this (which I plan on doing kyekyekyekye)
Hmmm for sol learning about siffrin.... as far as the party knows about, siffrin never existed! So sol would be learning about themself through the party's eyes! I'm thinking sol is probably wayy more open about the situation than siffrin is, so the party is very helpful and very concerned. Unfortunately for sol, this also means that if they want help they need to tell the party. Every. Loop. which makes for good angst later on teehee ^_^
Ok hold on are there any isat fans who also like i was a teenage exocolonist who would like to talk to me about a potential au I have

Life is Torture!!!!! (finished first chapter of my fic but decided I want to do a Real Art Cover Picture that ofc takes way way longer because I do art seriously, and also to unwind, so theres always a million different things I could be working on at any given time. But,, Im making progress.... I try to work at it a little every day...)
Tumblr media
heres a lil peek at a Vertumna I'm chipping away at currently :3 no dont ask me what sols up to in this one........... youll see....
Another hilarious funfact on that note: I famously NEVER make serious art digitally/for entertainment, like of my ocs. But...... once again,,, IWATEX has broken through my cold black carapace somehow.........
