“Don’t you find it exhausting?” Her words are punctuated by a sip of her Big Gulp, plastic straw scraping the lid as she moves it so she can suck up the dregs. “I mean, really, how many times have you been standing up there - all ‘gooooo Rottweilers!’ - and just thought: ‘I have so many better things to be doing’?” 

Her voice had become distinctly Valley Girl as she echoed the cheer, miming waving a pompom around with her free hand for good measure. But after a split second she laughs, betraying her affected disdain as little more than affectionate teasing. “Not that it doesn’t suit you - being peppy, I mean. Suits you more than most kids, honestly.”
