I've been thinking...
... in fact what I haven't been thinking about a lot lately were the McCarrics. The predictable happened; I've been putting my heart and soul - and a lot of research - into that real-life-novel-project. And I can only get emotional about one story at a time. Unfortunately I don't have any script for the next chapter, so I can't continue until I write something to bridge the gap. But I've been shooting the Christmas-Special, which starts today.
I've also been thinking about Veronaville 1914. Looking at what I have so far, and how it's written, it's growing into a nice little novel. But I'm not at all sure how to illustrate and post it. I still remember that failure with Through Parting Glass, which was roughly 1930s themed. Actually I really liked the images I took, but the required amount of decorating and dressing everyone was too much to keep me motivated. And, another half-abandoned project, my Veronaville-World in the Riverview Map has a distinct vanilla-game-charm. Not sure if this is still the aesthetic I want for the story, though I'm definitely still thinking in the layout of that map.
Then I'm also trying to finish my PhD thesis, and a lot is going on on top of that. Something that also requires a fair amount of thinking. But the above two points are what concerns you as readers.

I've had two absolutely crazy weeks. Including a day-trip from Bavaria to Berlin for a two hour library-consultation. And another dog-sitting weekend. Born in 2020, Ursel is appalled to learn how often humans leave their home nowadays! Also my sister and I are going to go to the Jane Austen Festival in Bath this autumn, so I spent more time sewing than I usually do.
I wrote some more for Veronaville 1914, which may be able to start next year. But I want to get past the 1794 drama with the McCarrics first (we are currently in the last third of the 1793 drama). On a related note, there won't be a casting-call for this year's Christmas Special. The cast is so full of special effects that I made it myself.
Now this weekend I'm determined to relax and I won't travel to any archives or libraries next week, so I hope I'll get to continue my story soon.

I'm pretty sure Veronaville 1914 finally stepped out of the fog and will be a story.
Victorian Spooky Photo Challenge by @moon-simmers
I wasn’t tagged, but this challenge inspired me for one of my sporadic continuations of ‘Veronaville 1914′. Consequently tagging whoever feels inspired.
The first picture is actually inspired by an artwork by Jean-François Peiré (to whom picture credit obviously goes, I’ve linked it from this post). We’re entirely used to the narrative of all men perishing at war. But what if the western world were a matriarchy (like some parts of Veronaville) and a conflict had left a whole generation motherless?
The second doesn’t have a specific inspiration picture, it’s just one of those multiple exposure photos, on which the deceased of the war made a ghostly reappearance.

One four all CaS Challenge
Rules: Create a sim or choose one you like then create 4 alternative versions of this sim. You can’t change the body presets/ face details / eyebrows. But you have to change everything else in order to create four other sims with the same base.
Thanks for the tag, @camicrazygirl !
I chose Hermia Capp, and of course it turned out decade-y :) Tagging anyone who’d like to do this.

Blog-Review 2021
It’s year-in-review time, but I feel more than ever that the number of likes on a post doesn’t really tell you much. So here are twelve posts that were special to me this year.
December: Marie spinning wool
I don’t think I spent so much time in pre-production since ‘Of Chevalry’! Thanks to the amazing @nornities and @crowkeeperthesimmer I got to make wishes for the world-setting before I started shooting, which was a whole new experience! Concerning Marie and the spindle, I was in touch with @windermeresimblr . This is the first time I made poses that require an element drawn in image-editing. And then I also made Marie’s entire outfit (to be released later. What you see in the story is still a prototype).
November: Edward and Fergus
This was the most recent post when my brother was bored at work and looked at my blog for the first time in years. Afterwards he said I might do previsualization for movies. This made me really proud. It’s rare to get a compliment from my brother.
October: Veronaville 1914
I still think there is a story lurking there (but perhaps I’m only thinking of ‘Rilla of Ingleside’).
September: Reblogged from @rosakajo: The Hobbyhorse Olympics
This was so cute and made my day (and it was that time in September when I was having a really bad day). Converting Toreno’s hobbyhorse with poses was also among my favourite projects 2021.
August: Revelations about the loading screen
I loved your reactions! :)
July: The girl who didn’t close her mouth
Not only did she get herself a part in Season 2.5, she also inspired a nasty line Andrew is going to deliver about the Austrian Emperor.
June: Johannes Verklempt
Even though I didn’t get the full meaning of his name, I’m still really happy with this scene. I had so much fun hiding “indecent” symbols in the picture, like the fig and the candle :)
Also I got to see the great Vermeer-exhibition in Dresden this year.
May: Andrew’s tenant-meeting
For one thing this is a scene I’m proud of under technical aspects: Everyone is seated and doing the right expressions to the right direction. Also we got a glimpse of Shiena’s background. It’s a challenge to develop the tenants along with the main plotline, without making to too confusing.
April: Fergus meets Tom
This scene was inspired by an encounter I had at a solders’ memorial once. Tom had such a small part in Season 1, but I’m still feeling a little heartbroken over him.
March: Updated TSM Lotus braid
I didn’t post much in March, but I’m glad I got this hair up to my current skill level. I wasn’t too happy with the original version.
February: Aeginets Poses
Something I’ve been wanting to do for years. I’m super happy with how this turned out. It brought the statues to life and made me see their beauty even more clearly.
January: Myself working in ceiling painting research
Becoming an art-historian gave me new confidence in real life. Next year an exhibition of our results is planned.

@victorian-sims replied to your photoset “Veronaville 1914”
Hi @danjaley , I wondered where I can find those skirts and vic-shoes of the ladies? They're neat!
Hi! The skirts are from All About Style, found for example in this folder, anything that has “bustleskirt” in the title. They exist for teen- adult- and elder Sims. (The one top is from the same source, the other is from Supernatural) The shoes are also from Supernatural, though All About Style’s victorian teen shoes were among the items I fixed recently. The coats are by Simromy / TSR.
