Is Venandi based on any specific spider in real life?

I was mainly inspired by the look of the zebra tarantula, as well as the “Skeletorus” jumping spider.

Since @twistedtummies2​ recently posted a drawing I made for his birthday (you can find it here) staring this spindly fella, I thought I might as well give him an official introduction. Do be warned, he’s one of the more sinister and cruel preds in my roster, so things veer more towards fatal when he’s involved. I also don’t really have a backstory for him at this time, so I’ll just jump right into the bio.

Name: Venandi Spinnerak

Pronouns: He/him

Age: Unknown

Species: Arachni-taur

Role: Pred

Height: 9.5 feet tall

Abilities: Tough exoskeleton, heightened senses, nocturnal vision, venomous bite, salivary enzymes, spider silk

Personality: Cunning, cold, sophisticated, and smooth, Venandi is a fiendish trickster who specializes in ensnaring his prey both figuratively and literally. On the outside, he may come off as charming and civilized, but beneath that facade is a ravenous predator with food constantly on the brain. He is incredibly arrogant, viewing most other creatures as below himself on the food chain, but as a result, his own hubris and superiority often leads to his downfall and many meals escaping from his clutches. Venandi is also prone to being deeply flustered and humiliated, especially when he's outsmarted by someone he thinks is "beneath him". Despite his cruel tendencies, Venandi isn't really evil (or at least he doesn't view himself that way). He doesn’t have a strict moral code, and simply does what he does because he’s hungry and not because he’s a sadist, although he does enjoy the thrill of the hunt and playing with his food from time to time. He’s a pretty staunch believer in “survival of the fittest”, so he’s comfortable with the explanation that every creature he devours just wasn’t fast or crafty enough to escape. To him, they get the honor of adding to a much more powerful, “worthy” creature.

Likes: Hunting, squirmy meals (rabbits are his favorite), striking fear into his victims, weaving, sculptures, interior decorating, playing the fiddle, polishing his exoskeleton

Dislikes: Being outsmarted, feathers (they give him a rash), creatures bigger and stronger than he is, deep water, bright light, indigestion, molting, criticism of his art

Other Info:

-Venandi ives in an underground burrow, setting traps nearby to catch prey. He is primarily an ambush predator.

-His venom causes temporary paralysis, but a large dose can kill

-Passes food back and forth between two stomachs until fully softened (first one mainly for mechanical digestion, the other chemical)

-Despite being larger than normal for his species, he has been cursed with an abnormally weak and sensitive fore-stomach and is very prone to bellyaches if he doesn't restrain his prey.

-Has a pet frog to clear out flies in his burrow. His name is Brutus. XD

they’re totally overrated, but i LOVE suave charming preds. the well dressed types that butter you up with compliments and flirts to where you don’t realize what they’re implying, and the moment they have you where they want you and you agree they swallow you up without any delay! once they get you down they coo and fawn over you, continuing to compliment your flavor and how well you fill them up as they recline and massage over you….

Who out of the characters you've introduced so far would most likely take a role of a Disney villain? (Their villain song is just them singing about vore because yes.)

I have to go with Venandi Spinnerak on this one, for the reason that my headcanon voice for him is Tim Curry. It’s just too perfect.

And yes, Venandi has a VERY good singing voice. I like to imagine it’s the spider singing here, it really fits his anti-social nature. XD

Who out of these guys in the best dressed most of the time?

Probably Lou. He's a very fashionable fella (not to mention VERY vain) with a taste for the finer things in life, and it definitely shows in his choice of attire. Although his nice pair of clothes are usually the only pair of clothes he owns, because he's not nearly as wealthy as he want everyone to think he is.

Venandi would claim he's dressed the best because he weaves his own hood and loincloth, and of course, his choice in fashion is CLEARLY superior to everyone else's. XD

Regarding OCs I haven't introduced here yet, I'd put down Captain Leviathan as an honorable mention:

Who is the scariest when they have completely snapped? Anger-wise.

Hmm…that question is REALLY tough. I think most of my OCs have the capacity to be super scary when they’re pissed off, even the ones who are normally docile and sweet. Aveon burned down a village with his fire breath when he broke free from his captor. Lou turns into a 10 foot monster werewolf when he’s super angry or stressed. Leviathan is armed to the teeth/beak with weapons and they’re not afraid to use them. Kron will enter “rage mode” ready to throw down with his axe. Izimba…well, she doesn’t get seriously angry often, but you don’t want to mess with her when she starts casting transmutation spells. And Venandi is a giant freaking spider with paralyzing venom who could dissolve you from the inside out if he wanted to.

And this isn’t even covering the characters who have yet to be introduced to Tumblr. So in short…take your pick. XD

🎭Venandi and Lou? (You don't have to talk about both if you don't need to)

Do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

I can talk about both of them here, because the answers are very similar.

Venandi and Lou are masters of deception (most of the time), so when they come across a potential meal, they will use flattery, kindness and charisma to lull their prey into a false sense of security. I’d say Venandi is a bit more skilled at buttering people up, since Lou can be a blundering goober sometimes. When these guys start showering you with compliments, cooing about how being out in the open is just too dangerous and they can take you to a much safer place, just turn the other way…unless you WANT to take the dive down their gullets.

Around people who see through their trickery, they usually just drop the act and start behaving like the jerks they really are. Venandi will never pass up a chance to boast about his superiority and coldly assert his dominance over others, because he is the most cunning, handsome spider around and he deserves to be at the very top of the food chain, of course. Lou does his fair share of bragging, but he’s more crass compared to the spider, prone to swearing and snarky comments.

Around friends acquaintances they’ve learned to tolerate, they can actually be quite awkward, since genuine companionship is so foreign to both of them and they really aren’t used to it. Lou has rare moments when he can loosen up a bit around kindred spirits like Jørgen and Regina, but Venandi usually just grumbles irritably and acts like he’s above it all, even if his true feelings are more complicated.

When confronted by characters even bigger and stronger than they are, Venandi and Lou’s confidence will visibly start to waver. The werewolf is quite cowardly when facing a threat he most likely can’t beat, and while he will fight back if he needs to, he often resorts to the “flight” option. Venandi is more likely to stand his ground, hissing and spitting threats in his spidery defensive posture, but when he is severely outmatched, he will get easily overwhelmed and flustered.

If someone weaved a tapestry for Vernandi would he be impressed? (Y'know...because spiders weave webs?)

If the tapestry is anything but the upmost quality, don’t even bother. He’ll give you a scathing critique before sending you down the hatch.

🌱 Venandi

What is their most vivid memory from childhood?

Venandi would claim it’s the memory of emerging from the egg sac, nourished and strong after eating ALL of his siblings. Whether or not that’s true I’ll leave up to you, although I can say Venandi was born unusually large for a spiderling.

But his most vivid childhood memory is actually his most embarrassing: the first time he managed to swallow a wild hare, and discovering for the first time that his stomachs are unusually sensitive to thrashing prey. Much indigestion and sick whimpering followed.
